  • If you love my curry dishes then you are going to love this spin on a traditional Hungarian dish. I present to you vegan tofu paprikash. Paprikash is a Hungarian dish traditionally made with chicken, but today we are making it completely vegan thanks to using tofu.

    First rule of Plant-Based cooking... Never fry tofu in your underwear. Second rule of Plant-Based cooking... NEVER fry tofu in your underwear. Third rule of Plant-Based cooking... If someone shows up at your house with a dish that contains Pine Nuts... Stop inviting them over. BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! PEACCCCCCCCCE!

      😂 Fourth rule of Plant-Based cooking... if someone shows up at your house with a dish that contains pine nuts, trying to fry tofu and some how wearing your underwear... dont say anything, shut the door, close your eyes and walk backwards back to bed!

    As a Hungarian the first thing I learned from my mom about cooking is to make a good base for a stew like dish with oil, onion, tomato, spices which is exactly how you start out (and in Hungary we often add yellow wax(?) pepper as well).
    I have been trying to re-create some of the traditional dishes without dairy or meat, so I'm very happy that you have shared this recipe!! 🥰

    Hey Andrew. Appreciate you veganizing a Hungarian dish. I am from Hungary and there is a version where we replace meat with mushrooms in the paprikas. Also a good option for vegans. Give it a try sometimes.

    Chicken paprikash is a STAPLE here in Cleveland. I miss it so much! Now I can make it dairy and wheat free! Here it is served with a spatzle type noodle. So excited to try this!

    Loved vegan cuisine in Prague, Czech Republic, where gulasz and dumplings were amongst our favorites. 🎉 vibrant vegan scene, even vegan donut shops.

      Sadly only in Prag 😢 enywhere else in Czechia is not that rich for vegan foods

      @@ondrejhrton3352 very true. Apart from small regions where it is part of the animal rights rebellion, a festival in Rokycany for example was only serving vegan food. 💕🫶 and in supermarkets it was also a little bit harder than in Germany or UK or the Netherlands...

      @@katsweeterly2039 supermarkets are getting better tho, Billa for example like a year ago had only tofu, now they have dedicated few shelfs of actually pretty good stuff and the milk section got like twice larger in the past two years ✌️😋

    Andrew, you are adorable and this recipe looks amazing! I have not been successful at getting my husband to eat tofu. But I didn’t realize there were tofus made with other ingredients. I think I’m going to give the chickpea tofu a try. One way or another I will get him to eat tofu eventually and I think this recipe will be a great start. Thank you. BTW I love that you commented on the fact that some words are just fun to say. One of my favorites is linoleum. I like the way it rolls off the tongue! Now I’ll really be impressed if you can figure out a way to get that word into one of your recipes. 😂😂

    That looks soooooooo good. My brother is allergic to soybeans so he makes a lot of tofu alternatives. He says peas and cashews work wonderfully.

    Love this video! I lived in Budapest for 6 years. Possible substitutions are the healthier chickpea flour for white flour. Also, cashew cream can be substituted for the very unhealthy coconut cream. Looking forward to trying this. Thank you!!!!

      Thank you, Elaine! Coconut oil/cream/milk everything was touted as a healthy fat for a minute. But we now know that it is very saturated and simply not healthy. Instead I'll sometimes use cashew cream or an unsweetened almond or cashew yogurt.

    I have to say your channel, out of the plant based/vegan cooking channels yours is my favorite. I've gotten back into training so I'll take all the protein and unprocessed foods I an get. There are way too many channels that'll swap meat for mushrooms or jackfruit which doesn't have much protein at all.

    Great pronounce on the Paprikáš 👌😂 dunno how it's written in German, but it is pronounced the same in Czech 🤗 Guláš also. Made similar recipe many times, but never thought about moving the tofu from the pan, gotta try this version for sure!

      it's just "Gulasch" in german. never heard of Paprikáš before but i'd assume it's just "Paprikasch" in german
      also pretty much pronounced the same (maybe some very minor differences)

    Tried it toinght with some non-vegan twists : I used chicken instead of tofu, and couldn't get my hands on chicken/veggie broth so I simply used water. Not a huge fan of coconut but I feel like it was worth trying. The sauce texture is amazing, and I actually really like it despite not liking coconut cream on most dishes ! Thank you from France

      In general, the exchange would be about 1dried to 3 fresh of whatever spice and measurement you're using.

      hey! i have my equipment listed in the description. but i am basically using a tripod with a long "arm" for overhead. a dslr for shooting. a apeture as my key light.

    I've always wished that cooking videos included the time of cooking. When the video fast forwards, it's difficult to follow how long something should typically cook rather than the appearance of what "done" looks like.
    Could you include a timer on the video?
