I had picked up a 15 year Teeling Irish Whiskey cask strength finished in Amburana, for St Patrick's Day this year. The amburana really lent some unique flavors I've never experienced before. Not an everyday sipper but an interesting change of pace and fun to share with other whiskey enthusiasts.
Thank u guys for reviewing Penelope. I work at a liquor store in New Orleans. I've been telling my boss about the architect series for a while. He finally got a case in. I've had 4 bottles in my collection previously batch #5. And once we got it in I sold every bottle within 6hrs. I need this bottle and the Valencia to complete my Penelope collection. Gentleman I love the videos. Tune in every posy. Also while I'm at it, there are local Louisiana bourbon that we sell at my store. I would love to send yall a couple bottles to review. Good review. I was able to get the Nulu finished in Amburana. Tastes like cinnamon rolls to me. The amburana is pretty intense though if its the first time trying it.

Starlight has a honey barrel that I recently snagged for 75. Absolutely outstanding! They also have their cigar batch bourbon and rye that are amazing. If this is similar to that, I can't wait to find this bottle. As always, thanks for the thorough reviews.

I’m hoping their acquisition will help with distribution. Here in Southern California, we have 4 yes 4 stores total that sell Penelope listed on their website. Here’s hoping I can find one of these!

I mixed the new starlight cigar blend with the starlight honey barrel finished bourbon to mimick the rio!! Pretty good !!
This sounds amazing. I like the sweeter flavor profiles as well. Since this will be hard to find - what are your favorite bourbons that fall into the sweeter bourbon category?
Starlight Rye in Amburana might be one of top 5 bottles in have in my collection. It’s amazing.

Starlight ryes are so good I have one finished in apple brandy cask it's one of my favorites, hopefully will be getting their cigar blend soon
I'm sure this will be a very difficult bottle to find. Hopefully one of my local bourbon bars will come up with a bottle so that I can try it. It sounds wonderful.

Not big on sweet whiskey/bourbon, but picked up a bottle tonight. 1st sip and every sip after got a tast of nostalgia. I was taken back to watching Saturday morning cartoons while reaching for a bowl of mixed honey and cinnamon flavored Teddy Graham's. If you know you know lol. Its kinda nice drinking a bourbon that reminds me of happy times rather than... A lot of other not so good times lol

I live in PA and got lucky on a drop last month. You being from PA you know all about the PA Liquor Mafia....... It is very good but IMO not an everyday sipper or one where I would have more than one per in a given moment.

@@Josh_Stringer Congrats but still means it's extra allocated that you only could get one through a lottery. So it will never see the shelf. Just like the New Weller coming out.
Don't worry Trenton- it used to take me 4 to 6 weeks to get a full goatee. Now it takes about 2-3 weeks. Just give it time!!

Try RD One finished with Brazilian amburana wood. Very spicy. Green apple cinnamon cider on the nose and pallet. Amazing finished bourbon, 110 proof
If its unopened, yet theres only that little amount left, a lot has evaporated or leaked out, most likely not a good seal on the cork, and with that much room in the bottle for that long of a period of time, a lot of the alcohol/ethanol has also released from the liquid, so its not going to taste like it did when it was bottled. Ive had it happen to a bottle or 2 and obviously wasnt nearly as long of a time period

While watching I just blended a little starlight honey and amburana. We’ll see how it goes!
This bottle is very good but I prefer the RD1 Amburana ( green label)

They just sold to MGP for 100 million so not a bad move. Working on getting a bottle but here in my area the picks are few and far but not impossible to find. But some are impossible to find unless you travel or use the online stores. Not into online shopping for perishables, or liquids. Just me.
They mentioned that in the beginning and they've changed their name to Ross and Squibb , I thought MGP Had a nice ring to it .
I”m making my own RIO out of 2 bottles of EH TAYLOR small batch! Ambarosa spirals an d. A 1 liter mini white oak charred mini barrel filled with 180 degree raw honey!
A new series idea Kurt…private label bourbon from big box stores (Sam’s, Costco, Trader Joe’s and Total Wine)
Most are sourced from legacy distilleries…might be a good series

Not a big fan of amburana, at least the whiskeys I had that were finished with it, tasted like a Taco Bell cinnamon twists. I may have to try this, sounds like the honey tones it down and I’m a fan of Penelope. Cheers

Maybe this makes me not a bourbon "purest" but I really like finished bourbons. That being said, I am pretty new to the bourbon world. Sounds like this Penelope offering isn't realistically attainable but of those that are, any recommendations anybody? Kurt? Trenton?
I really love Rabbit Hole Dareringer. It is about 75.00 but delicious!

What other bourbons are finished with amburana? You both talk about it as though it is fairly common. Please help me out. It sounds fantastic!
It is not common so sorry if it came off like that but I do believe it’s getting more popular. ASW out of Georgia has one out there and just a couple others that I know of.

The only Penelope I've had is their basic Four Grain. Pretty meh. I might have to look for Architect.

Penelope reps have indicated that it is not going to be released in Ohio or NC. "Due to the low yield, Rio will not be distributed in the state of Ohio and NC.
Due to the bi- annual release of products in the state of Ohio, Rio was not option to release as there is something different coming to the state of Ohio."
I suspect the Rose OHLQ pick is what is being referred to.

I was an early one on Penelope and it SUCKS that Rio is now impossible to find and almost $1000 if you do. I HATE THE GREY MARKET!

That Scotch is either going to be really good, or horrible…like not drinkable horrible. I hope it’s the former, but I’m guessing it’s going to be bad. No cork can legit hold a seal that long, and if there’s only a couple inches left, well, that’s because it evaped through that cork and has been oxygenated.
