The reason I love this brother is he provides a, more often than not, a balanced approach to certain questions/topics. This is a healthier view.
Dr. Shabir is just fascinating. I think he's so intelligent and seems lighthearted in a good way. He's great!
I agree. I have a beard, but I dont think by having a beard makes someone more pious. A lot of Muslim men have beards but are not pious
The Prophetﷺ said "Do the Opposite of What the Pagans do, Leave the Beard and Cut the Mustache"
[Sahih Al-Bukhari 5892]

This hadeeth only came down for that era. Not now. How can we now do the opposite of the pagans by leaving the beard alone as most of the pagans have a beard???

Let the beard grow and trim the moustache.”* Whenever Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, performed the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage, he would grab hold of his beard and cut what was beyond his grasp.

It has taken me too long to realize that the majority of Muslims are very open about their faith these days and that they are happy to explain. Americans, unfortunately, are unlikely to initiate such a dialogue. This is very interestung information Mashallah. Thankyou.
Shabir ally is the most lightminded scholar on the face of earth....
May allah bless him and grant him jannah.
What do you mean?
Hahaha
Dr. Shabir has misguided many of the followers of Islam. It is sad to see all these comments supporting him for his actions. His answers are in support of the audience to give a positive outlook on Islam in the way of "society" and what they believe is right or wrong. I recall him talking about women shaping their eyebrows, he went on to say that many hadiths are fake and men make them up to stop their wives from certain actions. I can not believe that he would go to that extent to shape Islam to society's beliefs. Brother, it is a sahih hadith. And in this video, he says it as if the prophet said its your wish to keep a beard. It's not a wish, it's a commandant, and to think that hadiths are just purely sunnah and not commandments is complete obnoxious. It hurts to see that he has such a big platform and he is using it for wrong. I hope-
I hope Allah guides him if he is misguided. But if he is doing all this on purpose to misguide us and create a society positive outlook on Islam, then may Allah protect us.
MashAllah Dr. You have wonderfully explained! I love your explanations, may Allah grant you to Al-Firdaws😊
Perfect! This is the Truth!
Apparently there's a large consensus among "scholars" that keeping a beard is fard and trimming it is haram.
I've looked into their arguments and to call it weak would be an understatement. They make up rules and position themselves as the authority in this manner and do not hesitate to call you a kaffir if you disagree, essentially taking you hostage with their creative sense of morality.
As a Muslim you should be very cautious of calling halal things haram and vice versa.
Be careful of these people, most resources you find online represent the position of a certain minority of Muslims with a huge PR campaign. Do your own research, seek for answers in the Qur'an, seek for answers in Sunnah.

Leviticus 19:27
27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard
We also have that as forbidden. You can find the hadith on it very easily. The "Al-Qazza" haircut. Similar to Lev. 19:27, interestingly enough. This haircut is when the sides are shaved and the top of the head is kept. This is so a person doesn't follow the pagans or disbelievers.

His tafsir on beard makes more sense because there's a Hadith after keeping the beard and trim the mustache where it also says to dye the beard to be distinguished from the People of the Book. Obviously dying the beard isn't wajib.
The fact that religions are being assessed by external validations and features rather than being simple human being is the problem of now. A person is holy when he is simple and his faith and humanity are in his heart and deeds, not in the beard, clothes, accent or rituals. My personal concept of true love and faith. Beard has nothing to do with religion itself. It doesn't soar your faith or make you a better person when you are without beard.. Peace to everyone.
Yeah.
Some men can't even grow a beard. Middle Easterners tend to be hairy so it's no big deal but for others like me I can barely grow patchy fuzz. Many white men and Asians simply cannot grow a beard so don't assume a practice that for some men is impossible.
Absurdly petty. Glad I've no part of your religion. @محمد عبدالله
@محمد عبدالله Try atheist
It's not impossible, there are beard hair implants. 🤓
If we look at epiction of Jesus or Moses as in the movie or elsewhere.
This was enough for me. Thanks!
Depiction oh jesus with veard is a constant in christianity. We have statues thousands of year old.
Nah, thats olden times. Now having a springy beard is akin to a caveman. Pull it off one by one or get it trimmed!
The man is intellectual
To all wondering let me break it down like this:there is no importance or significance of beard in quran. Now when we go to hadiths that say grow a thick beard we must realize this is coming from a middle eastern perspective and given how much hairy the middle eastern men are it makes sense. However quran which is the word of God is universal and makes no mention or demand of such thing. Why? Simple because universally speaking not all men can grow thick beards. Some can't even grow a beard at all. Not to mention that facial hair aka beard is not an action, prayer or deed that you commit. Its something natural that just grows either way. Like height or puberty. Its not something that you can chose to do it will come either way. Oh and by the way hadith says trim not shave the moustache and if I am being honest beard without a stache is weird. It looks hideous and disgusting to look at sometimes.
But didn't Muhammed (pbuh) followed only quran ? So wouldn't the sunnah of Muhammed (pbuh) following only quran since Muhammed (pbuh) didn't follow hadith?
It's interesting watching religious videos like these. Really confused why ppl base their life off of books but to each their own I guess.
Because in Islam, the "life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion" (3:185). A reappearing theme in the Quran. For you, a non-believer, this worldly life is all you have. For us, this is merely another stop in the journey of the soul. This worldly life is akin to a fleeting and quick stop on this metaphorical "train ride"...a ride which ultimately has to reach a destination.
Life is indeed very "short" and "fast". Even living to 100+ years is insignificant. On your death bed, all those years just flash you by. (Not necessarily but a lot of near-death testimonies say their life flashes them by, not saying it's 100% absolute that it will indeed flash).
Ultimately every soul shall taste death. You have your views/beliefs and we have ours and peace be upon you.
if i cant grow a beard, and if it comes out i can probably count them and name them lol , i am muslim, should i still grow despite having been told that i look better without sparse funny looking beard ?
Looking respectable is better. If that means shaving, then shave
Yes I can’t grow a beard but I never shave
it's better to grow the beard. i believe beard is obligatory as the majority of the scholars believe so. even if you believe it's sunnah which I disagree with. it's still something that you will be rewarded for and you will be following the way of the prophet Muhammad Salalah alaihi wasallam.

Ans to ur 1st ques :
To be honest Modern World is much more easy to perform sunnah than what it(world) used to be.
In the time of king's rule they were no objections, freedom etc. You have to obey what they say and if you don't they used to force by imposing critical punishments which we don't see much now as there are treaties signed, various organisations looking after etc etc
Yes sometimes we feel shy to perform sunnah in inappropriate places or environment but That's exactly how Allah subhanavatala examines one's imaan, whether we betray him or follow him.
We think what would people think about us but forget that *Allah* himself is watching on us all the time. He is there to protect you of all cause. Not even an ant can move on its own without Allah's will. So believe in Allah the only one.
Science and Technology were things that existed during our prophet's time, even something as simple as a horse carriage is a product of science and technology. Science just means understanding how this world works. Even cooking food is a science. Therefore it is actually impossible to live without science, since almost anything a person does is science. Therefore it cannot be haram. And it most certainly is not black magic.
people who say science and technology are black magic are just making up their own rules. there is nothing like that. cooking food, a clock, a bullock cart all of this is science and technology only.
Other molvis are like ..dont cut your beard.. they need to change their minds
Yeah....they think that following means imitation...
So because a White Man put blue eyes and lighter skin on Jesus in movies does that mean it was true? You can`t based attributes off of movies beloved .
True that, but I think what he was trying to say was that it is so well known that God's prophets (peace be upon them all) had beards that even humans who make false images and films based on their imaginations know to reflect the figures with beards and do so consistently. He could have used better examples, especially from the Quran and Hadeeth, like Haaroon (i.e., Aaron in English) (pbuh) telling Musaa (i.e., Moses) (pbuh) to let go of his beard in the Quraan, quoting Hadeeth about God's prophets having beards, etc.
Islam also teaches us to be hygienic and groom ourselves. Overgrown beards are not only smelly especially after eating, it looks like armpit hair on your face. So trim your beard and your under south hair! Shave your armpit hair if your trimmed armpit hair smells. Islam is simple. Beard do not represent your iman.
Sorry, but absolutely incorrect, the beard is fard in the Deen, it is absolutely a command, the Prophet(S) said, "Don't be like the polytheists, let you beards grow....." How much more of a command is need??? This incorrect view is going against the consensus of this Umma, the action and sayings of the Prophet and the Sahana and the Tabiuoon
The ijma is that it is recommended, not obligatory. These Ahadith were meant to distinguish yourself from the polytheists at that time.
Many Sikhs have beards. Many hindu priests have beards. So should we trim our beards. It's complicated I don't know

Awesome, even having a big beard,he doesn’t put it as obligations by recommended.Either he would have been argued for wearing beard,if he would have said, beard has no religious norm totally or dont grow it totally. He is saying,it is recommended.
I thought a beard was to signify a man.
yes you are right
But what if I just want a gotee
Common sense should be enough to signify other person as a man, not a beard ,you weirdo!!🤣🤣
I don't know where u got that from, but that is not true. According to some Ahadith, the beard was introduced to tell the Muslims from the polytheists apart. In one Ahadith the Prophet (s.a.v.) supposedly even said to do the opposite of what the Polytheists do (they only had a mustache), which was to keep the beard and shave the mustache. There are also women who have a full beard due to a chronic illness (PCOS), but that doesn't make them male. But since countries and cultures have mixed so drastically nowadays and a lot of polytheists nowadays wear beards, it can be said, that the function of it as a distinguisher has been invalidated. Nevertheless our Prophet (s.a.v.) wore a beard, hence why it is a Sunnah, but not a direct obligation as Dr. Shabir Ally puts it. Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed life here and in the herafter

The Quran does not tell us to grown a beard, neither not to grow one. It made sense back in the day to grow a beard. Hot countries, shortage of water, nomadic lifestyle. Sandstorms that could cut your face, hence a beard to protect your face.
Muslims say it is sunnah to keep a beard and many, many rulings are in place for the correct size of the beard, etc etc!!
Do they know that even the enemies of our beloved Prophet also kept a beard!
The choice is ones own. Has nothing to do with religion.
A further note, Allah swt does not call Islam, a religion. It is called Deen. There is a vast difference between Deen and religion.
al-Haifawi, are you serious? You should do some reading.
Hang on, there are Hadith that are contradictory or out of the ordinary. Thats where scholars conclude or elude to them being fake or weak so, not all Hadiths are solid.

God gave men free wills to keep beards or no beards, for their own pleasure or liking. Keeping beard or not, has nothing to do with religious duties. As a matter of fact God condemns those orthodox Jewish, orthodox Christians and orthodox Muslims, the idol worshipers who insist that keeping beards is obligatory required in religion, thus He made them as despicable as apes, monkeys and pigs with beards. All these stuff are trivial issues, beard none beard, keeping the garment above uncles if they were Allah would've repeated over and over again in the Quran, so focus instead what Allah said be good in character, pray your salaah, be good to your parents, wife/husband, children, your neighbors, orphans give charity, and you will be fine trust me with or without beard, under or above uncles garment.

The prophet (pbuh) had specified to grow the beard "fist length." The hadith you cited demonstrates one of his companions practicing that. It does not say he shaved his beard completely off but rather trimmed it to keep it the length of his fist, which is neater and more presentable, anyway.

@@pashaj92 You are right brother!! The prophet never cut or shorten his beard. I would follow the most authentic opinion among the scholars who agree that cutting or shortening the beard is haram. I believe it was one of the shabas that cut his beard at fist-length, but again never the prophet (SAW). I would obey and follow what Allah and his Messenger (SAW) ordains us to do and not what anyone in the comment section tells us to follow. Read surah An-Nisa 4:59 it says, 'O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger' (SAW). It's also mentioned in Bukhari 5892 The Prophet (SAW) says, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut short the mustache" Meaning you can trim the mustache but not shave it. Let the beard grow and trim the mustache and Allah knows best

1. Whatever the prophet commands is a obligation because Allah says: And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
2. Allah says:
Nor does he (the prophet) speak from [his own] inclination.
It is not but a revelation revealed,
3. The Prophetﷺ said "Do the Opposite of What the Pagans do, Leave the Beard and Cut the Mustache"
[Sahih Al-Bukhari 5892]
4. If we say for the sake of argument that this is not a command nor a obligation then what do you say when the prophet says
"The Prophet (ﷺ) then added, "Pray as you have seen me praying and when it is the time for the prayer one of you should pronounce the Adhan and the oldest of you should lead the prayer.
Does this mean that we have a choice and that we can pray how we want? Of course not.

@@familyvideos8547 Are you sure? Why speak without knowledge.
The Hanafi School
The great Hanafi jurist, Imam al-Haskafi (Allah have mercy on him) states in his Durr al-Mukhtar:
“It is unlawful for one to trim his beard….And as for shortening it when it is less than a fistful, as some North Africans and effeminate men do, this is something no one (i.e. of the Hanafi scholars) has said is permitted.”(See: Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, 2/113, Kitab al-Sawm)
This position is also confirmed in other works, such as al-Bahr al-Ra’iq, Fath al-Qadir, al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya, Bada’i al-Sana’i and al-Ikhtiyar.
@@familyvideos8547 The Maliki School
Imam al-Dasuqi (Allah have mercy on him) states:
“It is unlawful (haram) for a man to shave off his beard, and the perpetrator will be disciplined.” (Hashiyat al-Dasuqi ala Sharh al-Kabir, 1/90, Kitab al-Taharah)
The Shafi’i school
It is stated in Sharh al-Ubab:
“The two shaykhs of the school (i.e. Nawawi & Rafi’i) state that it is Makruh (disliked) to shave the beard, but Ibn al-Rif’a objected to this stating that Imam Shafi’i (Allah have mercy on him) himself categorically mentioned in his book “al-Umm” that shaving the beard is unlawful (haram). Imam al-Azra’i said that the correct position of the school is that, to shave the beard without a valid medical reason is unlawful.” (Sharh al-Ubab & Hashiya Ibn Qasim al-Abbadi, 9/376)
Imam Ibn Qasim al-Abbadi also stated in his Hashiya:
“It is said that, shaving of the beard is unlawful.” (See: Hashiya Ibn Qasim al-Abbadi ala Tuhfat al-Muhtaj, 2/468, Kitab al-Salat)
The Hanbali School
Imam al-Bahuti (Allah have mercy on him) states:
“(From the acts of nature (fitrah) is to lengthen the beard in a way that it should not be trimmed at all. It is stated in the school that, this is as long as it does not become abnormally long in a way that it causes abhorrence. And it is unlawful (haram) to shave it off.” (Kashaf al-Qina’, 1/75).
This is also confirmed in the other major Hanbali works, such as: al-Insaf, 1/121 by al-Mawardi, Sharh Muntaha al-Iradat, 1/85 by al-Bahuti and al-Rawdh al-Murbi’, 27-28 also by al-Bahuti.
The above statements of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and the statements of the jurist (fuqaha) go a long way in proving that to shave the beard (or trimming it to a very thin line which in effect is shaving) is unlawful (haram). A Muslim (and especially one who classes himself to be practicing) can never look with favour towards the act of shaving the beard
@@familyvideos8547 You asked about the madhahibs and i brought it to you then you rejected it, foolish act. No, go and learn som facts and gain some knowledge, none of the 4 imams lived "thousands of years ago", The prophet (peace be upon him) lived about 1400 years ago so when you say "thousands" do you mean that this is written before the prophet? And you call me lost? What do you mean by "authority", are you a blind follower of the "authority"? Shabir Ally is not from the authority lol. Islam and the Quran is for all times it is not subjected to one specific time but it is for all times. People who want to change the Quranic rulings to "fit" their corrupted beliefs are deviants and misguided. Matter fact the Quran was actually written down 1400 years ago, do you mean it is outdated? Please clarify otherwise you may have fallen into major kufr.
Is it forbidden to completely shave of the beard and/or shorting it significantly?
@@obeewankanobee5167 Shaving is forbidden according to the 4 imams and others as for shortening it there are differences of opinion where some scholars say you must leave it as it as and some say you can hold your beard with your fist (if it is that long) and cut everything that is more than that like abdullah ibn umar did RA
Anyone know the name of the host (sister)'s name??
Beard is Fard for Man!
Lmao what a joke. ...... really have you read the Quran ....
Allah didn’t made this fard. So don’t tell lie.
If it is a Fardh, Muhammad (saw) has not made that clear in the hadiths. Nor has Allah said that in the Quran.
Muhammad (saw) said: Let the beard grow and trim the mustache.
He didn't say it is a must. He didn't say it is Fardh. He simply recommended it.
Therefore it is mustahab.
No, it doesnt say anything about it in the Quran. Dont make halal things haram
apostate prophet should watch this
Dr shabir ali has eloquent in his speach but do not be decieve by his speech for he wants to appease his majority followers. He should say as it.
The beard is sunnah mandatory.
It's better to avoid a female anchor...
So u dont HAVE to grow a beard ?
Not a commandment but it's highly encouraged
He's cool...
Really cool
Pull that beard hair one by one! or get it trimmed! It's like a caveman hair

God doesn't tell you anywhere in the Quran to grow a beard. .....
Faraaz M Hanif a beard grows naturally on a man's face why would you cut something that's apart of your body? I am pretty sure God never said to cut your body parts off right? That includes a beard
@Street Fighter vs Xenoverse Your argument makes no sense. Didnt allah command us to shave pubic hair , armpitt hair, circummize your genital. Haha think before you answer...
unknown unknown I am not arguing about anything , and everything I said in my previous comment makes plenty of sense..
@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 You said why would you cut of any body part? The prophet saws commanded us to circumsize boys genital. Thats literaly cutting your bodypart . Come with a better argument why keeping the beard is fardh. Not that
unknown unknown again I am not arguing.. Why would you cut off something that your supposed to have as a man?
I think there's alot more than what he said to keeping a beard it's the same for women why do they need to cover their hair.
Well I believe it keeps shaitaan away from you it keeps you away from his tricks and shirk.
I believe a beard for men and covering of the hair from the head for women is a must especially if your practising your deen islam
Beard and headscarves are materialistic items...you reckon having this will stop the shayateen?! Deary me you need to work on your Emaan! I know lots of scholars who are clean shaven and are amazing preachers and scholars like Yusuf Ali
Trust me brother it's TRUE
Especially if your practicing deen or have takwa.
You are right brother. It doesn't completely solve the problem though. I have seen loads of people following the beard Sunnah that are rude and put others down while people without beard having great character and empathy towards others. But beard, if kept with the intention of keeping the Shaytan away, that does help.
Invented 600BC and yet so very primitive.
Makes sense as Moses is the reincarnation of Mohammed.
Is it haram to shave
No
Yes, many scholars including the 4 imams, Abu Hanifa, al Malik, Ash Shafi and Ahmad Bin Humble says that it is haram to shave the beard and its considered a sin
Yes, its a sin to shave the beard and to understand this you have to read the Koran in surah An-Nisa 4:59 it says, 'O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger' (SAW). The famous hadith mentioned in Bukhari 5892 says, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut short the mustache.' Meaning you can trim the mustache but not shave it. This is a commandment by the prophet and its considered an act of worship in Islam ☪ and yes all 4 schools of thought consider shaving the beard a sin
@@ajc1753Shafi imam says that shaving is makrooh, not haram

Bro has never studied English, that sentence is correct .
I suggest researching the definitions of “wear”.
May Allah guide you Br Shabbir. All scholars have agreed that it is a command and not an "advice". Imam Malik, Shafii, Ahmad Ibn Hambal and al hanafi and their students.
You don't know better than the Sahabas and these scholars.
If we take your logic here, that means many commands of Islam would be "an advice" just because there is no "punishment" after it. Really? May Allah grant you Hidaya.
Unsatisfied answer...
This is enough to show that spirituality is not even skin deep in Islam. Facial hair and burka to determine one's piety - what a superficial body centric view of life, literally.
Whether a person chooses to do what God wants or not IS A REFLECTION of the soul. To provide another simplied example of how the external can be a reflection of what is on the inside, if someone who doesn't shower and smells horrible argues it's what's on the inside that counts, that may be true, but things like cleanliness, being grateful for and taking care of one's body, being considerate by not making others have to suffer smelling your stink, being presentable looking, etc., are external manifestations of one's spiritual state.
Nothing at all

According to the canonical hadiths of Islam, the muslim beard is symbolism of violence against non-muslims.
Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be opon him) said: Act against the polytheists, trim closely the moustache and grow beard.
Reference : Sahih Muslim 2:500
Abu Huraira reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.
Reference : Sahih Muslim 2:501
That means if now the Hindus start growing beard
Shaving beard will be cumpulsory for us right
@I Actually a religion of a mix monotheistic and polytheistic beliefs called Sikhism is already a religion in which beard is compulsory and I think it's followers are more then Jews too (u can Google it , I can be wrong)
So it's already starting
@I There's a high possibility of it happening
That's why I used if
And it's not a matter of unseen
It's called guessing

Oh thank God! I hate beards
i would really appreciate it if there were no women in ur videos. men could ask the questions too. barakallahu feek

Don’t watch the video then. Not everything is about you or what men want. She’s modest, leave her alone. Go watch a video with a male interviewer if it bothers you so much.
So no women only men ? you do realise that the questions asked are from both men and women rigth? It's a platform where anyone can ask any question, so "SMH" what has this to do with women?
