Oh my god, it's real! Now we need Iron Maiden's drum sound. I think that Danny Carey is fricking drum legend. Tool is one of the coolest rock or metal band ever in my opinion.
I dont think its known enough just how amazing of a drummer pascal is. He covers the whole span of artists/genres and can recreate the songs nearly perfectly. I'd love to see recreating II's sound from Sleep Token!!
I've always found Schism one of their easiest songs to play on the drums. Maybe I'm just weird. Or maybe I've just played it too much. However.... Pneuma? Yeah, I will never be able to play that masterpiece. The middle part is just beyond me. Sad that he didn't play it in this video but still amazing work.
I’ve always been intrigued by Danny’s set up..him using a 14 inch roto tom & tuning it to a 12 inch pitch is so unique & crucial to his sound. Great work as usual!!
I listen to the Vic Firth YT video of Pneuma every morning when I log on to my computer to begin my work day. It gets me fired up. Great job reproducing the sound and the song!
Really awesome. I normally multi-task with youtube on the side while I'm on my phone or doing something else on my computer but I had to stop and listen purposefully as the quality of this video was so high. Thank you
Should be online within the next week. We were caught up with quite a few projects in the second half of the last year and that's why quite a few sample packs are still missing... I'll add a comment here and let everyone know through a community post once those packs are online :)
Definitely happy to finally see one of these on Tool, Danny is an absolute beast of a drummer and it’s absolutely awesome. As for some other guys, how about Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, Tim “Herb” Alexander from Primus or Sal Abruscato/Johnny Kelly from Type O Negative?
Beautiful job guys, as always. Fun fact, and not to be taken as a criticism, I was surprised when I saw them the first time that the verse hi hat pattern in Schism utilizes a double stroke on the left, as RLLR instead of alternating singles, which was how I always envisioned it and played it myself. Try it out next time you're jamming the song, and you may find, as I did, that it makes the pattern a bit easier to play :D
I just watched a drummer put on his seat belt after playing the intro. Like, we all know what’s coming, but so too does the drummer. This was wonderful, in a hedonistic way, in uncanny comfortableness.
Amazing job and playing, "Pneuma" intro , Wow, for me impossible to play. Great channel, keep up good work! Danny's ride sounds fanta-stick! Love Paiste.
Not only a fantastic, innovative drummer, but he had multiple iconic drum palettes, particularly 80s Crimson and his Earthworks project. He was very influential to me and I was fortunate to see him play live a few times.
FINALLY GOT A HOLD OF THE BEST CYMBALS EVER MADE AND THE RIGHT ONE'S TO DO THIS VIDEO CAUSE PAISTE HAS A UNIQUE SOUND NO OTHER COMPANY CAN COMPARE KEEP THEM FOR THE NEXT PAISTE ARTIST VIDEO TRIBUTE GREAT JOB ART OF DRUMMING
It would be cool to have a counting track as your playing for those wishing to figure out the count. Also, I saw an interview with Danny Carey by Rick Beato in which he (Carey) said he felt the small, high-pithed toms had such "cut" he had Sonar make the shells thicker on the small toms and thinner as the toms became larger because he felt they resonated more.
Dope stuff man. Could you please consider adding prices on screen for the gear where possible? Would be cool to know during the rig rundowns. Thanks for the great video!
Amazing video. The attention to detail, the production... Then Pascal blows all of that out of the water with his playing abillity to top it off. Hi-hats off. Now, as for the suggestion: Martin Lopez' Deliverance with Opeth drum sound. 🤘
Another amazing video. 11/10. Still waiting for you to eventually do Abe Cunningham from Deftones, Justin Foley from Killswitch Engage, Joe Jackson, especially his debut hit "Is She Really Going Out With Him?, and the four people who've played for Avenged Sevenfold. Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, Mike Portnoy, Arin Ilejay, and finally Brooks Wackerman. In regards to the four drummers who played for A7X, you can play one song from one of the albums they played on. "Bat Country", "Unholy Confessions", "Beast and the Harlot" or "Afterlife" for Sullivan. For Portnoy, you have to play "Nightmare". For Ilejay, either one of three options. "Shepherd of Fire" "Not Ready to Die" or the Title track of the album he play on "Hail To The King". And finally for their latest Drummer Wackerman, either the Title track The Stage, Higher or Mattel would do. Keep up the great work all around. P.S I know it sounds like a lot, but I know you guys can pull it off flawlessly.
@@aMan-or9ij That was no joke, one of the first old songs that my parents played on a Ipod that I ever heard. Still holds a special place in my heart and Drumming history.
I think I speak for everyone in asking that you cover Rikki Rockett (from Poison) next! He is, without question, in the top 100 most talented drummers of all time who were born on August 8, 1961, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. I dare anyone to argue that! Go ahead and try. Though, there is a guy named Arny Pinkle, who has autism, and is missing both legs below the knee, who plays for fun in his step-fathers garage. He was born on that date too. He's a bit higher up on that list than Rikki.
Danny is a portion of Neil Perts kit based on the fibonacchi sequence. Hes basically built like larry bird , and in my opinion Neil pert and danny are the most advanced modern drummers so far. Its very difficult to argue otherwise based on drummers of the past. Reference a quarter of neil perts kit that was basically the experimental portion of that rotating table. Its difficult even for Danny to play his own fills , mind the bassist is non dependent visually. Thats why maynard is standing backwards in the shadows behind danny at shows. Tools guitarist also is a prodigidy in his own right.
You were super close! I think you had 2 of the cymbals wrong though. I always read he used an 18” full, 18” power and 20” power and 13” sound edge hats. He previously used the dark crisp hats
I love this channel. You guys are the go-to before any studio sesh Suggestion: Any chance of doing diving into Benny Grebb's sound? He's got the best sounding floor tom in the business.
I would really like to know where and how to get the edrum sound samples used in Danny Caryes Pneuma and Decent songs. What sound files did you use with the GEWA G3 for this video post?
Awesome work! Please do MIKE PORTNOY, MATT GARSTKA & MATT HALPERN Sound Recreation next as well! It's only a matter of time. Sleeping on these 3 Prog Gods is a definite missed opportunity.
Here's the Full Length Schism Performance!

Please upload the full version of Pneuma.
I am in awe of your dedication in reproducing such iconic sounds. Thanks for the hard work. Much respect from an old drummer.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're always trying to improve and create the best content we can :)
Well said! He's crazy talented.
That Pneuma sound is spot on 👌.. And dude, the performance.. Not easy to nail Danny's parts to that level.. 🔥🔥
Oh my god, it's real! Now we need Iron Maiden's drum sound.
I think that Danny Carey is fricking drum legend. Tool is one of the coolest rock or metal band ever in my opinion.
Total sound of their own
Haha itd be funny if they did Nikko's full tom set up
Watching this great performance, can't help think of how lucky we are as a generation to be alive in the same period as Tool...
I dont think its known enough just how amazing of a drummer pascal is. He covers the whole span of artists/genres and can recreate the songs nearly perfectly.
I'd love to see recreating II's sound from Sleep Token!!
One of the most important drummers of all time and you did him great justice
I've always found Schism one of their easiest songs to play on the drums. Maybe I'm just weird. Or maybe I've just played it too much. However.... Pneuma? Yeah, I will never be able to play that masterpiece. The middle part is just beyond me. Sad that he didn't play it in this video but still amazing work.
Maybe after Mike Portnoy attempt on drumeo you might BE able to do it. 🍀
And it’s not even the hardest on the album. 7empest is the hardest followed by invincible
Wow!. .. this is incredible. As a huge Danny fan I appreciate all the effort put into this!!! I'll be sharing this one for sure 👍🏼
Thanks !
Those FX are spot on! You have to give us those pneuma sound files!
I'm amazed at how close you come to the original recording with these recreations. The playing was also phenomenal!
Anyone even gets close has my respect. Well played, sir.
Brilliant, well done! And can we please acknowledge how effortlessly and on point Pascal played that weird 33/8 pattern from „Pneuma“ - huge kudos.
I’ve “stumbled upon” his Vic Firth video like, 478 times. Never gets old. Excellent job on this video!
I’ve always been intrigued by Danny’s set up..him using a 14 inch roto tom & tuning it to a 12 inch pitch is so unique & crucial to his sound. Great work as usual!!
Pneuma is such a tricksy song to play, very well done on that performance!
I listen to the Vic Firth YT video of Pneuma every morning when I log on to my computer to begin my work day. It gets me fired up. Great job reproducing the sound and the song!

Thank you! Great we caught your undevided attention :)
You just proved how great a drummer you are. Big respect 🔥
Give us the rest of Pneuma!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video!
Really looking forward to getting this Tool Pack. Any idea of when it will be available? Can't see it in the shop right now.
Should be online within the next week. We were caught up with quite a few projects in the second half of the last year and that's why quite a few sample packs are still missing... I'll add a comment here and let everyone know through a community post once those packs are online :)
Yes! You guys are sooooo good at getting these sounds and nailing the tracks 😊
It’s not easy keeping up with the Octopus 🐙, well done sir👊
World class work and effort. Just the snare sound tuning and pitch is spot on
Keith Carlock’s big open drum sound would be great to see!
Amazing work guys! I'm not a drummer, but I can certainly appreciate the hard work that was put into this video.
Great sound, great playing, great recording, a well set-up studio and production of the video. This is really good. Thank you.
I am thoroughly impressed by your skill on drums. How did I not know about this channel sooner. My day just got a whole hell of a lot better now haha.

Scott Rockenfield of Queensryche next, please!
Great idea! Which album? I've always thought the drum sound on Empire was fantastic.
@@DeuceDeuceBravo for me, it has to be Operation: Mindcrime. The drums on that album is insane
I'm seeing Tool for the first time tomorrow night at Louder Than Life. Can't wait!!!!
Great video!
Crazy the amount of triggers Danny has in a single pad. Able to play that part by starting in the middle and moving down. Great recreation
Gavin Harrison and Mario Duplantier please !
Recreated super well! Love the sound of all the cymbals. Great playing, also!
Always impressed by how close you guys get to the original drum sound of these great drummers! Sick job!!!
I just watched a drummer put on his seat belt after playing the intro. Like, we all know what’s coming, but so too does the drummer. This was wonderful, in a hedonistic way, in uncanny comfortableness.
Oh my lord. It’s all so perfect!! Unbelievable work
I'm so glad that you noticed the phaser effect in Schism 🤘 that's one of my favorite things about the song that not many people hear.
Amazing job and playing, "Pneuma" intro , Wow, for me impossible to play. Great channel, keep up good work! Danny's ride sounds fanta-stick! Love Paiste.
We need a recreation of Bill Bruford's sound, he is one of the biggest inspirations for many progressive drummers!
Great video
Not only a fantastic, innovative drummer, but he had multiple iconic drum palettes, particularly 80s Crimson and his Earthworks project. He was very influential to me and I was fortunate to see him play live a few times.
The SQUEAL of excitement I made when I saw this in my recommended...
It would be nice to see late Vinnie Paul monster drum kit recreation
AMEN!!
you guys are amazing. Danny is one of my favourite drummers
You guys are really good at this
I got a great idea for the next one. How about recreating Carter Beauford’s sound?
That recreation of Pnuma alone deservers a million likes.
This content, commitment to perfection is stunning! Just WoW!

just got myself a remote DW9000 HH. it comes this weekend!
As always guys, great work here! That Sonor brass snare is killer.
They said it was copper, which is surprising considering that he's been playing bronze snares for such a long time now.
@@drummrboy I have that snare and it is definitely bronze
I really need a full version of those two songs, sound so f** good.
This is sick. You have recreated he’s drum kit with perfection, all I can say masterpiece!
Thank You! :)
I bet mr Carey himself would very much approve the playing, also enjoy playing that kit you set up. Great job!
Thank you so much for doing this. I will definitely be donating to support you for doing this!
This is so spot on. Very impressed. Keep doing what you are doing!

Bro you can't tease me like that, you have to play the full 11 minute song. Excellent work
Danny Carey : is already a Legend.
Very well done guys!!! Wow!! That was tight man!!👌🤯🤩
You have entered the Danny Dimension with this one!
Great work as always. Can't wait for the full song display.
Schism is alsready out as a full length drum cover
I didn't think the snare sounded right until the mix. Nice work.
Holy smokes! That is remarkable. Well done!
so glad you did this as i have an e kit and dont know what he uses and have to adjust using my hearing only. can you do lars's one day 🤞

Love that pop sound of the snare.

Danny Carey's signature snare is not simply made of copper. It is bronze
Full Pneuma cover ASAP!!!!!
311's Chad Sexton would be an impressive sound to emulate. Let The Cards Fall is a good example of the textures he creates.
I love 311 - they are so under-appreciated. Glad you brought up Chad Sexton.
@ArtOfDrumming Danny turns his stick around before his start tapping the rim. Look at the concert video you can see it clear as day. :)
Wow those cymbals sound beautiful. I’ve been a meinl guy forever but hot damn I might have to pick up some Paiste signatures
you guys should do a drum sound video for ghost
Wow!! Perfectly done!
I don't think it was mentioned in the video, but the electronic drums that Danny Carey uses are Mandala drums
WOWZA! Nicely done! MAD RESPECT! Thank you! 10 out 10!
