A lot of things could be true at once. He could have done meth or had a drink spiked. The home owner could be a racist and not a murderer. He could have shot himself, but why didn't they polygraph the supposed witness? The problem is they need to methodical and scientific, they did not do any of that. Them finding meth in his system led them to make a rapid judgement of suicide which was stupid, but it would also be stupid to solely focus on the homeowner because he is a racist or had a pic of a confederate flag. I think the "witness" would be the first person to polygraph.
If the court overruled the suicide theory and wants them to reinvestigate the case, then it shouldn’t be investigated by the same investigators, what is the point? They are only going to come back with the same result! Someone in that house is guilty imo

The craziest thing is this isn't the first teenager found dead on wades property. I grew up in Fredericktown and unfortunately was friends with his daughter and stayed many nights at his house. Another young man, Nick Lowery, was found dead and also labeled a suicide.
He was drugged and murdered. As parents/guardians it is so important to get information on WHERE your children will be before they leave the house. Who are the parents, meet them...assess the environment/home life and get a feel for them AND their children before you let your child go visit without you. He's a Black teenager in a predominantly white town, where he's a transplant (from a different city)...that alone is cause for alarm. Unfortunately, there are people who have no regard for Black life or existence and someone with that mindset took his life. That man knows something, those teens know something and those town officials do as well.
Pretty hard to believe that this young man with a promising future went to a party at some random mans house with a confederate flag hanging and shoots himself in the head in this random mans attic with someone else’s gun... nothing about this says suicide. I’m so sorry for Derontae and his loved ones ❤️ I hope this gets new investigators and the Martin family get some real answers.

Derontae was one of my personal friends. I’d go as far to say a best friend. He was like a brother. I know Derontae would never take drugs since that could mess with his ability to play football in college. And I don’t know if the phone was taken to the police but because of a family friend I know that in saint Francois county where I live and where he went to school the sheriffs department can hook the phone up to a computer and pull all data (even deleted/erased) from said phone. And I still think Zachary should be made to take a polygraph test.

I live near Farmington/Fredricktown. There's a lot of places in the state that the police kind of run off the "good ole boys" way of doing things. This area is one of those places. The way this was investigated and handled, along with the Timothy Dee's case and the Gina Dawn Brooks kidnapping was/is unacceptable. My condolences to the family.

The "witness" is key to it and no one polygraphed him. He either shot him or knows who did it. Maybe it was a suicide, but that is the first person you should polygraph.

A forensic search of the phone could recover all the erased data. Just needed an IT expert. but it seems the poor guy may have been coerced into shooting himself because of his drug induced state and attitude of other party goers.
I love how no matter the situation, you can find a “specialist” that can dispute anything. I have no preference either way in this case, I’m just saying this happens every time. Two specialists with conflicting findings.
The guys story doesn’t make sense... he was given a gun because he was feeling unsafe; and ultimately used it on himself. Worst detectives ever if that didn’t give any red flags. I think because he snitched in putting that man in prison the homeowner must have known the guy. The boy knew that they knew each other making him feel paranoid that they might want revenge.

That said, the one detail of this case that might stay with me is to learn there's a place in America called 'Knob Lick', truly, the mind boggles!
Bc of a lot of missing information it's very difficult to determine the truth. I don't think the police dept that originally conducted the first investigation should be tasked with the new one. I think the state police should take over. A question I have is how was the scene documented? The fact the only supposed witness was not given a polygraph (was that suggested at all or did the witness refuse?) seems suspect. Also it seems odd that drugs were found in his system seemingly at odds with his character. Though not impossible has it been looked into that he might have been slipped to him? So many questions and not enough answers I think the only way these answers might be uncovered is to have the state agency take over the case. Thanks for the vid. I hadn't heard of this case bf.

Please don’t be mad but I have been messing up lately and I need help to get back on track so I don’t waste my life and my natural talent for football. I have been self medicating because I have been a bit depressed and worried after the injury and subsequent surgery because I have had a hard time dealing with my pain.” And even if he couldn’t admit something like that it’s easy to test him to see how long he’s been using drugs by doing hair follicle testing and so forth. It’s possible to determine exactly what drugs he was using (if any) and for how long he was using them. And although I agree essentially with your statement it doesn’t mean that his family would not have noticed a worrying change in him if he was using drugs. And the same goes for his siblings and friends. His friends may not have said anything to his family while he was alive but by the amount of love and support he had from his friends I bet that they would have come forward after his death and told his family and law enforcement about any knowledge or suspicions about his possible drug use.
I'm wondering if some kids gave him the meth as a prank somehow, and not knowing what's going on he freaked out. Not sure how that leads to being given a gun, but I can imagine someone tweaking with no prior experience or w/e absolutely losing their mind.

I've heard of one other case where this happened and it was later proven to be a murder.

There's a lot of places in the state that the police kind of run off the "good ole boys" way of doing things. This area is one of those places.
The way this was investigated and handled, along with the Timothy Dee's case and the Gina Dawn Brooks kidnapping was/is unacceptable.

The "witness" is key to it and no one polygraphed him. He either shot him or knows who did it. Maybe it was a suicide, but that is the first person you should polygraph.

A forensic search of the phone could recover all the erased data. Just needed an IT expert. but it seems the poor guy may have been coerced into shooting himself because of his drug induced state and attitude of other party goers.
I love how no matter the situation, you can find a “specialist” that can dispute anything. I have no preference either way in this case, I’m just saying this happens every time. Two specialists with conflicting findings.

The guys story doesn’t make sense... he was given a gun because he was feeling unsafe; and ultimately used it on himself. Worst detectives ever if that didn’t give any red flags.
I think because he snitched in putting that man in prison the homeowner must have known the guy. The boy knew that they knew each other making him feel paranoid that they might want revenge.

I was ashamed and not a little angry when I could not answer with a negative response then and neither can I answer that question with a negative response now.

Good work Kevin it's a refreshing to watch crime reporting done in such a respectful and sensible way, one that's pleasingly devoid of the usual SHOUTY, censorious tones adopted by so many other similar shows. That said, the one detail of this case that might stay with me is to learn there's a place in America called 'Knob Lick', truly, the mind boggles!
Bc of a lot of missing information it's very difficult to determine the truth. I don't think the police dept that originally conducted the first investigation should be tasked with the new one. I think the state police should take over. A question I have is how was the scene documented? The fact the only supposed witness was not given a polygraph (was that suggested at all or did the witness refuse?) seems suspect. Also it seems odd that drugs were found in his system seemingly at odds with his character. Though not impossible has it been looked into that he might have been slipped to him? So many questions and not enough answers I think the only way these answers might be uncovered is to have the state agency take over the case. Thanks for the vid. I hadn't heard of this case bf.
@Sabia Zeritis of course no one is going to announce something like that to their family. But he may have said,” hey mom can I talk to you about something? Please don’t be mad but I have been messing up lately and I need help to get back on track so I don’t waste my life and my natural talent for football. I have been self medicating because I have been a bit depressed and worried after the injury and subsequent surgery because I have had a hard time dealing with my pain.” And even if he couldn’t admit something like that it’s easy to test him to see how long he’s been using drugs by doing hair follicle testing and so forth. It’s possible to determine exactly what drugs he was using (if any) and for how long he was using them. And although I agree essentially with your statement it doesn’t mean that his family would not have noticed a worrying change in him if he was using drugs. And the same goes for his siblings and friends. His friends may not have said anything to his family while he was alive but by the amount of love and support he had from his friends I bet that they would have come forward after his death and told his family and law enforcement about any knowledge or suspicions about his possible drug use.
