Regardless how drunk he was, he was very foolish to introduce the gun into the situation. Way overkill for just asking the boy to leave the room. Americans are so foolish. Playing with guns like toys and killing themselves or loved ones in the provess. SMH

She must have had an incredible lawyer. She openly confessed to several people and they had the bloodstaining on her clothes, her own confession, the defense lawyer must of made quite a story about her being a victim of abuse.

She confessed to killing him to other people but that’s not strong evidence considering that everyone knew she did it. The reasoning behind it was what needed to be proved (I.e self defense). But given that her husband held a gun to the students earlier in the evening, that was good evidence for her defense.

    Love ur work Kevin!
Another interesting, well-researched & well-presented case & a strange, confusing & complex one at that!
I think she murdered him but they didn't have enough evidence to convict. The mistake made at first was assuming & treating the death as a suicide, thereby not conducting a thorough search of evidence at the scene, such as no gun powder residue test on Amy that night.
Very suspicious to have another ex-husband dying in a bedroom closet & the fact that she had the place totally cleaned so soon, destroying any chance of further evidence being gathered is also sus. We also have the life insurance policies - meaning substantial financial benefits to be gained by her from Marc's death!
I agree with his mother- she did it, they just couldn't prove it beyond any reasonable doubt unfortunately!
    Tragic!

Him not being upset by his cancelled promotion and 'taking it in a stride' that he was transferred etc doesn't make sense.
His incident would stay on record and would affect his career going forward.
I don't know 1 military man who would take non promotion, transfer and permanent marks on his record 'in a stride' and have no problem with it.
He also seems to have issues with anger, since he pulled the gun on the students. Anger and intoxication can lead to a lot of actions.

The fact that the husband pointed a gun at the exchange student for the minor infraction of being in the girls' room shows either his behavior was dangerous bc of his alcohol intake and/or his slide into irrational behavior. That being said , the inconsistencies in her story of "finger on the trigger along with his" suicide to self defense and the discrepancy of her story and the physical evidence is cause for skepticism. The testimony of the friend about the "escape" plan is interesting but could be explained away if this was premeditated and she said these things as a way to absolve herself of possible charges. Overall, the case is a perfect example for justification of all accident and suicide scenes to be documented as a murder scene until verified otherwise. There is only one chance to collect evidence and once its gone its gone forever. There are so many cases I've seen that have resulted in either no justice for families and/or endless questions about the manner of death that can never be answered.

The investigation was botched from the start. How does one conclude a death to be a suicide without studying the crime scene, collecting evidence and properly interviewing suspects and witnesses? I'm also very surprised that the air force did not conduct their own investigation. After all he was a serving as their pilot, prejudice of his misconduct should not have played into investigating his death. All in all, this is one of the most inept and dismissive homicide inquiries I've ever heard of. Hope his parents sue her for wrongful death and the police for dereliction of duty.

Pulling a gun on a student for talking to a female and being that drunk are definite factors. The testimony her friend gave about her living in fear is another. I know that this case is as close to reality, in terms of forensic evidence, that you can get. A part of me has so many questions about such evidence, because that’s the only way to know the real truth. I feel like there’s a huge gap of information missing, and it’s absurd that a jury has to decipher the truth without more answers. But, again, that’s more realistic. The cases where scientists go to extreme measures to find answers are rare, the exception and not the rule.
    It’s such a bizarre story.

Innocent people don’t change their story and confess to friends. Obviously guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Manslaughter at the very least. I mean, if you follow the logic of the jury then all you have to do to get away with murder is to be alone with a person when you kill them and then claim self defense. We have to do better than this.

@@TheGhostOfMichaelJackson They do not, however, lie in this manner! People lie because they know the truth will make them appear bad! If she had just told the 'truth' (I say truth, but I mean what she now claims is the truth), she would have been taken seriously and even straight up just believed, as evidenced by the verdict! Self defense against abuse was pretty much her only valid defense! However, she was worried about not having ever told anyone or having any evidence of ever being abused, and she mistakenly believed she would need to prove that he was abusing her, which she couldn't do, so she lied to attempt to get away with it! But, luckily for her, it turns out that you don't need any proof or evidence at all; all you have to do is be a woman, kill a man, and eventually make your story the violent husband one, and your all good! Wow, what a great precedent to set! Men can be killed and then have their name tarnished and be forever remembered as a woman basher, simply because a woman said so!

This reminds me of another case in which the guy said that his wife "fell on the knife" and then said she begged him to "finish her cause she was tired and wanted to go be with her mother" so he proceeded to slice her throat...these stories sometimes...

Kevin, this case is a head scratcher. I feel confident that she is guilty based upon what she told all the folks she was acquainted with…that being said maybe his parents can bring a wrongful death suit against her so that she does not spend all his money 💵 unless she already has.
    Fabulous presentation!

Some single women try and hide the fact that they have children when entering the dating scene. This one's going to have to hide two dead husbands. When and where do you reveal this little tidbit of personal backstory ? 'Gee hon, heh heh, there's a teeny bit about myself that I kinda sorta forgot to mention.' 😳

She was boozed and got tired of getting pushed around by him. I think the heat of the moment, Mark was enraged and she feared for her life. How it actually went down, no one but Amy knows.

It seems like if she’d just gone with self defense right off the bat she wouldn’t have faced serious charges whether that’s actually what happened or not. The fact he was just drunkenly brandishing a gun on a kid makes it a good self defense case whether she planned it or not. They didn’t even check her for gunshot residue so she could even recant her statement and just said he shot himself and she was close by lol.

Yeah right! If he was abusing her and she feared for her life, that would have been the VERY first thing she said! But, because she had no evidence for and there was no history of him abusing her, she made up this bizarre suicide story, but when that didn't work because it made no sense, she just went with the ol' tried-and-true "he was abusing me" excuse, which don't get me wrong, i'm fully aware is truly the case a lot of the time. But how often in those cases is there a different story/lie in the beginning? The answer is never because its a load of shit!

Is it just me, or did she flash a little snarky smile as she was being photographed for injuries ? I agree with those who believe that her not guilty verdict was a result of the prosecutions failure to prove it. Sloppy police work and snap decisions led to a finding of suicide before all the evidence was thoroughly examined. Guilty, imho.

Wow.... I've never heard of this case before. I lived in Albuquerque before moving to the UK and had friends stationed at Kirkland! It's definitely a case that requires thought. The fact that he'd pulled a gun on a young man just before this happened though shows that he likely wasn't in his right mind at the time (in my opinion), so even if she was mad about cheating or whatever else, I don't think she could have set up the unstable events leading up to the shooting and added to that, to commit murder with a house full of students doesn't make much sense (again, that's my opinion lol).
I've been trying to remember a specific case that I thought you might be interested in, but since my last brain surgery my short term memory isn't the best... It happened in the town that my godfather lives in a few years ago (5 or 6 maybe?). It's the murder of a 17 year old highschool student in Dumas, Arkansas. A man confessed, but it was highly likely to be a false or coherenced confession. Last I'd heard he'd gotten granted a new trial (he was convicted of 1st degree murder on his confession with almost no other evidence)... I don't know where the case stands now, but it's definitely a thought provoking case to be sure.

Amy murdered Marc. The cops blew it from the start. How can you place any weight on what she told a co worker, or told anyone. It's her version. She set it up to murder him. And her first husband killed himself. Not much was said about that. I guess she has bad luck with husbands. Edited to add: Who goes into the closet to take their earrings off? Anyone? Of course not.
