The blame is entirely yours, Tim. I'd never heard of Schuyler at the start of the year--now I have 3 of their bibles: a PSQ ESV, a Treveris ESV, and the RSV Quentel. It's been difficult avoiding full disclosure to my wife of what I've spent on these beauties! Many, many thanks!
thats hysterical!!! now that its been a year can you tell me which of these you still like the best and why. and can you tell me if you have any of the Cambridges like the Topaz? and if so which would you suggest for someone buying JUST ONE?!!!
Oh my gosh… I watch a video of yours and say “Okay, that is the Bible I want.” Then watch the next video…”oh, now THIS is the Bible I should have” and that happens with every video LOL! Absolutely love your reviews and am learning so much!
Very helpful, Tim! I just wish Schuyler would produce the 36gsm paper again. I love that my Allan 53 has it, and it is a very noticeable difference when I switch over to my Treveris and PSC
I own a Schuyler Treveris KJV, but it's not my favorite. It's brick red and not real ruby red like I was hoping. It is goat skin which I love, but it's a 6x9 size and in book form which I found out is not my fave at all. I don't care much about cross -references either. Now, after reading what your friend wrote😄 about Bible colors, I'm more fond of purple KJV's instead. I love studying the Word of God and I'm glad we have you to review Bibles before we buy them! 😃 Keep on keeping on! Your reviews helped my hubby and me choose a green Schuyler Bible for our daughter this past Christmas!👍
I recently (last year) purchased the ESV Treveris w/ full yapp in green goat skin....it's the most beautiful Bible that I own and my favorite to read through. Thanks to you, I am also about purchase the Immerse set as a homeschool resource/book club. Thanks for your reviews.
I really wish they'd expand the Canterbury to other translations. Having a double column verse by verse by Schuyler would be great! I love and own a quentel ESV but might go and get a Topaz from Cambridge for preaching. Thanks Tim, your videos are helpful for sure.
Oh I feel the same! The NASB is my favorite and to see them make it in that would make me so happy especially with the wonderful fancy letters at the front of chapters. What are those called?
Thank you Tim. Great presentation. The Treveris is a great option that needs more love. I hope it gets offered in more translations but I am very happy with my ESV; it is my daily reader.
Thanks for the review Tim. Schuyler did tell me that after the 36 gsm is gone in the remaining NIV’s that they’ll be going to a 28 gsm like the rest unfortunately. I went ahead and bought 2 of them while I could to get the thicker paper. I just think that the ghosting on the 28 gsm looks horrible. I’m really not a fan of this new fad of having to make Bibles thinner and thinner to appease the little girly men that can’t carry a real Bible. I mean who wants see-through tissue paper in a $200 plus Bible?? To me a thicker paper just says quality. I think their wide margin 40 gsm is perfect. Superior quality and readability. Hopefully Schuyler see’s the light someday soon. That’s just my opinion.
I have a few Schuylers, bought the Schuyler NIV Quentel for my wife and love the 36gsm paper, the Bible does not feel too thick. I also have a CSB Quentel with the 28gsm paper and I love the layout, not crazy about the thinner paper. I do have ESB and NIV PSQ's and I'm fine with the 28gsm paper on them. Beautiful Bibles from Schuyler, I just prefer 36gsm across the board on the larger ones.
I just bought my first Schuyler Bible! I bought the CSB PSQ in marbled mahogany calfskin. I wish there was a size between the PSQ and the quentel, but nonetheless, it is beautiful. Everything you have said about Schuyler is spot on. This is the nicest Bible I’ve ever owned.
I never heard of them until I saw your videos and got my first one ! It’s so dang nice . I love it ! I got the dark purple KJV . I’m newer into my faith in Jesus and I wanted just a traditional Bible I can pass down if I have children . But now I have a bunch of other cheaper bibles and I need to get a NASB and would also like a NLT from them… unfortunately I’m broke! lol
Great fun overview, Tim! Thank you. I am waiting for more of the Stridon in other versions and colors. I wish that Schuyler would produce a single column, verse by verse, with inner column references and the 36 GSM paper (or even the 40GSM). Love that heavier paper! I really enjoyed this overview. And, WOW that's a lot of Schuylers on your desk! LOL
Swell overview Tim: My understanding is that SCHUYLER will be publishing hopefully in 2024 a Canterbury Series Edition of the AUTHORIZED [KING JAMES] VERSION which also includes the AV/KJV translations of the books called Apocrypha. If so...I hope SCHUYLER makes it available in a "red letter edition" that not only recognizes and attributes the words of JESUS in the New Testament, but also to words that can be "reasonably referenced" to Our LORD in the Old Testament and the Apocrypha...! Wouldn't that be "awesome"...? Continue to keep all of us "Bible addicts" [...LOL...😂...] updated...!
Hey tim, i want that westminister bible. Pretty much you’re showing off those beautiful bibles 😂 base on your collection you’re doing fine so sell me that one please😂 im drooling
As always, I enjoy your Bible review videos. I can't count the times I have been to Evangelical Bible to look at their Schuyler Bibles, but I finally ordered the Quintel NASB Bibe in Firebrick red. I went for the full-size vs Personal size because of the larger font 11 vs 8.5 point. I have been looking for about a year. I was worried that the 1995 translation might be replaced by the 2020 one so I decided to order now. I still will read my ESV study Bible, but for just Bible reading I will use the Quintel because of its smaller weight. Thanks again for your videos that helped me make my decision.
I have the ESV PSQ and WM, do you think it is worth getting the standard Q? or not really? I also really enjoyed the lunch and learn that you did last week with the SoBC.
Thanks! The regular Q has the largest typeface of the three... and it's a bit more portable than the WM. If either of those things sounds appealing, I definitely think it's worth it.
I heard so much good things about them that I bought a full yapp Canterbury a while back, a costly purchase considering the freight cost over here to Norway added to the cost of the Bible itself, but oh boy, it was worth it! I don't think I could choose between that and the Cambridge Turquoise, and that is really saying something!
@@destinycoach5 Between Schuyler and Cambridge in general or the regular size Canterbury vs the Turquoise specifically? Short answer is that I like both publishers, but for different things. I like the scanned plates in the Turquoise/Concord/Cameo, it gives a vintage feel to them, but unfortunately that was also the days when they did self-pronouncing texts which I find to be a pain to read. The boldness of the font, paper quality and construction quality also goes to Cambridge I'd say. @@destinycoach5 Yes, if only we could customize our favourite Bible from the various traits of the publishers and models! What a beautiful dream that would be. I have never heard of the Humble Lamb before, but 36 gsm and blue letters sounds awesome! The size is a bit of a turnoff for me though, 9x6 would be about the same as the Canterbury regular and Turquoise and I find myself only using them at home by a table since they are too unruly to hold laying down and not very pocket friendly either. Does it come in a personal size or compact? Then you might find the Cameo font size too small, it is only an 8 point, but it is extremely crisp and with both bold letters and very opaque paper it reads more like a 9,5 in my subjective opinion. Spoiled for choice! Would be awesome to have a Schuyler new testament only and truly small (mini even) premium options, too. Pocket Size Treveris New Testament (pocket as in back pocket of jeans). It would need to be text only, single column, paragraph--316 publishing almost got it with the LSB, but VBV/double column takes away from the point of reading on-the-go.
Hi Tim, Thank you for your videos and sharing your thoughts on beautiful premium bibles. Question - if you had to chose just ONE bible from Schuyler in ONE translation, which one would it be?
I just learned so much in this video presentation, thank you, about how Bibles are formatted. What I learned serendipitously though is that those who make these either don't read them or have a weird sense of humour: I would rather own a sheep or lamb skin than a goat skin any day :-O :-D
Historically and pragmatically goatskin was used for Bibles because it was cheaper, plentiful and more durable. Sheepskin is very soft and doesn’t suit Bible binding. Calfskin is becoming more available due to advances and techniques, as well as demand. 🤷♂️
It would be great if you could present the RL Allan Bibles, past and present. As these are collectible it would be nice to discover what is in the used market by attributes and the crazy coding system Allan deploys. Sort of this….. Say I want an ESV, reference Bible, with larger print. What has Allan marketed in the past? What should I wait for to return?
I love your videos. I want to buy all of the Bibles but you helped me figure out which ones were good for me. I have 2 Schuyler and 1 Alan and I love them. They are so amazing and a joy to read. I have one question. I know you don’t do this but you might help me understand. Why do some people on UA-cam scribble all over the pages of the Bible. Some cover the entire page. They are illegible. Please answer my question. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m ignorant. Maybe that’s a new fad. I’m old and having a hard time trying to keep up with new ways of doing things But Gods word to me is sacred and it doesn’t make sense to me
I'm glad I can help, Berta... There's a whole new world of Bible journaling and art... maybe that's what you've seen is people who like to draw and take notes in their bibles in pretty ways.
I love the text blook of the older edition by Trinarian Bible Society. You mentioned that Schuyler doesn't make that one any more. Any suggestions for a premium bible with that type of text block?
Beautiful Bibles but for many of us, the 11 point Milo font used in the Quentel seems absurdly large. I understand we all have different preferences but I find the 10 point font in the NLT and RSV Quentels to be much better. It’s unfortunate that Schuyler has apparently said they will only use 10 point font in a Quentel when they introduce entirely new translations to the product line (like the NLT and RSV). I hope that changes, Check out the NLT Quentel - it’s fantastic.
Tim - I just ordered the Tuscany calfskin PSQ and thought it was a saddle color leather because that’s what it looks like at evangelicalbibles. But it definitely looks yellow in your video. Is it yellow??
Why is the Stridon the only edition in which there are translator notes, while all the others only have references? This is the one thing I don't like about Schuyler Bibles. Enjoyed your review...thanks...!
Hey Tim, I just bought my first NIV Schuyler Quentel and wondering is it normal for there to be bold dark print in some areas and light print in others?
I hope they come out with a center column reference, personal sized ESV. 9pt type. This is my favorite layout, but there isn't a line matched edition out there.
@@timwildsmith I'm not. I've never seen a Schuyler Bible in person, and will probably never see one. I might save up for an Esv Psq in the new aniline leather that will be coming. If not, I'll stuck with my Esv large print compact. It works OK. Too much ghosting though.
@@Creationhorse I was waiting about a year to actually find a Schuyler in person, gave up, good luck! I recently bought a couple and they're flawless AFAIK, worth climbing the escalating commitment ladder though ..... NLT is hard to source anything nice so yes I did "need" a couple for me and my pastor that leans NLT, but I wouldn't buy more Schuyler without specialized usage needs. I prefer ESV so I'll likely get an ESV or two, likely a zippered PSQ because who else makes premium with zippers for EDC?
@@Creationhorse the hardest thing about justifying full premium ESV is the usual quality to cost disparity of Crossway products. They're well bound and less ghosty than the competition, IMO better formatting ... and ESV just reads good. I'll likely try some buffalo bound this year.
I've heard Schuyler won't be offering slate goatskin so much anymore. I think that will be sad if its true. I think its a great design. That slate Quentel you have there looks really good. I'm glad I got a PSQ in slate. Also, something I thought of after you revealed all new Quentel typesettings will have a 10pt size text, what will happen with the PSQs of those typesettings? Scaling down the page with the text as is will result in a text of less than 8pt...
That's really interesting. I am glad I have all the Schuyler bibles as we know them, before they change type sizes as you suggest. I have slate Canterbury and the leather is superb. I have just bought my 4th PSQ and after giving my NKJV purple Quentel away a few weeks ago I have bought the green which I also have new in the PSQ, both in ESV, which are my final bible buys forever. I have 20 premiums Cambridge, Allen and Schuyler and I am comlpletely satiated!
I've wondered that same thing, Grant... not quite sure how that would impact the PSQ. I imagine it would be slightly smaller as well, but perhaps they can work around that and keep it at 8.5pt.
@@timwildsmith If the keep it at 8.5pt, they would probably not be able to keep the pagination? I suppose that's not a big thing, but it was a nice feature, and made things easier for them, just having to scale the size of the text...
Nice overview. That was fun. So a question is, my questions is... should I write in...highlight in.. my ESV Full App Tuscany Calfskin bible when it comes in? Is anyone out there writing in their Schuyler bible? For me, I'm actually thinking about highlighting in mine. LMK what is ok and what is forbidden to do, in regards to note taking, studying, etc. Thanks!

Hey Tim, loved the video. Their Blue bibles are Imperial Blue, not Navy as mentioned in the video. Keep up the great work!!!!
Schuyler Bibles are definitely nice. Great information as usual and thanks for your review
You're welcome, Wayne!
The new NLT PSQ is 🔥
Love this!
An NIV Treveris would be wonderful as a reading Bible.
Ya, I have not watched yet.... I know all watching this video will do is make me want another Bible.... okay, I will yield to temptation.
Very good and useful review, brother. Thanx!
Glad it was helpful!
@@filobiblic Thanks - I was being funny though and trying to reference Matt. 25 🙂
Would love a NKJV Quentel but they are so expensive, especially to ship to the UK.
Very helpful; thanks!
You’re welcome!
Great idea!
Will an ESV Stridon be released this year? Just heard the answer-"soon."
This is such a helpful video. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
😳 I use a 16$ Nelson thin line , (used to be 9$ in 2018-19)
Hi tim, can you make a R L allan one thx
Just want you to know you are awesome. 🎉🎉
Thank you!
Such beautiful Bibles!
Thanks for the video! Holler if ya need someone to store those for you. ;)
😉
I love your videos. I want to buy all of the Bibles but you helped me figure out which ones were good for me. I have 2 Schuyler and 1 Alan and I love them. They are so amazing and a joy to read. I have one question. I know you don’t do this but you might help me understand. Why do some people on UA-cam scribble all over the pages of the Bible. Some cover the entire page. They are illegible. Please answer my question. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m ignorant. Maybe that’s a new fad. I’m old and having a hard time trying to keep up with new ways of doing things
But Gods word to me is sacred and it doesn’t make sense to me
I'm glad I can help, Berta... There's a whole new world of Bible journaling and art... maybe that's what you've seen is people who like to draw and take notes in their bibles in pretty ways.
That Tuscany though. 😮
Stunning
Great stuff!! Thanks Tim!!😊
You're welcome!
I love the text blook of the older edition by Trinarian Bible Society. You mentioned that Schuyler doesn't make that one any more. Any suggestions for a premium bible with that type of text block?
Hmmm… there’s nothing quite like it that I can think of. TBS still makes these, but I don’t think it’s exactly the same.
I just want a midsize Canterbury 😂 😊
Do you think the PSQ will come in a KJV translation at some point? Thanks for these great reviews!
They make a Personal Size Canterbury... I think that's the closest you'll get.
Hi Tim..do you have a video like this on RL Allan bibles?
Tim - I just ordered the Tuscany calfskin PSQ and thought it was a saddle color leather because that’s what it looks like at evangelicalbibles. But it definitely looks yellow in your video.
Is it yellow??
I wouldn’t use “yellow” to describe it.
Do you think they will make a single column KJV? I have the Canterbury but would love a single column but not the traveris.
Great review as usual
I appreciate that!
Hello Tim , I was wondering if you could recommend a company that would make me a calf skin amplified version?
Thank you
I hope they come out with a center column reference, personal sized ESV. 9pt type. This is my favorite layout, but there isn't a line matched edition out there.
Don't hold your breath!
Tim, do you think there is ever, any chance Schuyler will put out a NRSV version of the PSQ? That would be perfect for me.
I think they'd do the full size Q first... so I wouldn't hold your breath!
@@timwildsmith I cannot imagine anyone ever wanting the PSQ to change format.
It's perfect!
@@timwildsmith If the keep it at 8.5pt, they would probably not be able to keep the pagination? I suppose that's not a big thing, but it was a nice feature, and made things easier for them, just having to scale the size of the text...
Hi, I would like to ask you some information about these wonderful Bibles. Are they available in Italian or are they only in English? Thank you
Just English
Is there a breakin process you're supposed to do on a new schuyler bible ?
These videos are causing me to struggle spiritually. After seeing all these fantastic Bibles I develop Bible envy and slide into Bible covetousness. 😋
Thanks!
If you love, I say go for it!
Hey Tim, do you like a Schuyler PSQ or the compact Humble Lamb HIStory NASB 2020 bibles best?
I have not seen the NASB History in person yet, but I’m sure it’ll be great. The PSQ is an all-time favorite.
what do you think about 28GSM VS The older 36 Schuylers which one was better?
NASB in large print with index?
So very educational! Thank you so much for all you have done. I am actually working my way through many older videos simply for the knowledge to be gleaned from then, it's just fantastic. Thank you so very much.
Brother Tim wildsmith my name is caleb i am an indaian i need Schuyler caxton bible green colour how can i get please could you send me any link to bye
Do they have red letter NASB?
Do you happen to know if they will have available the Stridon in NASB 95? Thank you
That’s not announced as of now.
Is there a functional purpose for a full yapp or is it just a personal preference type of thing?
It helps protect the page edges from drops of water, etc.
Didn’t happen to make an Everything…RL Allan per chance? I’ve owned many premium Bibles from Cambridge to Schuyler and Crossway (one Lifeway) but traversing the Allan landscape has me befuddled with the acronyms and numbers?!
Not yet!
What’s the GSM on the biggest one…the desk one ??
40 GSM
Hello, I can't remember the one Bible thin graphics that your wife loved could you tell me? paintings in it
There have been a few like that... not sure which one. CSB Adorned? NLT Art of Life?
I’d pay more for 36 gsm NKJV from Schuyler.I think that’s where Allan beats them. The paper is so much nicer.
