I sold Bibles in a brick & mortar store for close to 20 years some 30 years ago and it was truly a dream job and one I miss to this day. Having said this, I'm familiar with most of the publishers you've just covered, though pleasantly not all! Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to make this vid and sharing your love of God's Word with the rest of the world and how to find the Quality Premium Bibles at the best price. Keep up your ministry Tim and God bless!!
This is so helpful! Thanks for compiling and sharing this! I wish there were a bigger thumbs-up to give this video. I've spent hours on various websites and haven't been able to get a concise overview, so I really appreciate this. Thank you so much! Perhaps someday I'll be able to sort through and actually purchase a premium Bible. 🥰
For KJV Fans, Church Bible Publishers has some beautifully made, well priced, high end bibles. Also, great people to deal with. Thanks, Tim. This is very helpful. Phil
I have a Church Bible interleaved and it’s holding up well. They recently sold to a company near Dallas. Keeping the same name but wondering if the quality is the same.
Thank you so much, I've been looking (not successful) to buy a premium Bible online. I hope to pass it down to my daughter's someday. This video is perfect.
This video is so good. I took pages of notes from this video. The one video that helped me more than anything when I purchased my first ( and then second) super premium Bibles. I say you are warned if you watch this video. It is the “gateway” video lol :) Thanks so much Tim for breaking all this down. Amazing video that I have watched time and time again.
Tim, fantastic content. I have watched about 15 of your videos in the past 2 weeks. I am looking at another premium Bible purchase and you have provided some critical and fantastic content to help me choose the right fit. I assume that is your ethos for the work you do. So, job well done brother!
I did not know I needed a premium Bible until I found site, Tim. Actually I don't really "need" one but I sure would like one. With your great videos I've narrowed it down to a Schuyler Quentel but haven't decided on the translation yet.
I ordered from Bibles Direct for the first time and it shipped six days ago. I actually went through a momentary crisis when that container ship was blocking the Suez Canal. Fortunately, my limited knowledge of geography kicked in and I felt relief when I remembered London is located a little bit more Northwest from there. I am very happy that the ship was re-floated and was back on its way. It is a little humorous we call things "shipped" but usually they travel by plane, truck, van, or bicycle. I still have a few days left waiting for my Allan purple ESV (NC1) and I'm pretty excited. It's been a while since I didn't have a clue of the arrival date or a tracking number. First Allan bible ever. This video was very helpful. Thank you.
Can you make a video about China print Bibles vs American or Netherlands? For example, I bought an heirloom from Christianbook for a good price (150ish). When it came in the mail, the title page said: "printed in China." I later came to find out through some blog posts that Crossway did this. When I reached out to Crossway they were great at trying to tell me the differences. However, after ordering one bound in the Netherlands I Immediately returned the China print one because the quality difference was obvious. I think a video about this would help future buyers. Thanks, Tim!
Okay, opening up this video is a sign I have an issue I need to address. This is not a review, not a "this might be good for you." It is: You have a drinking problem, now here is how to buy fine wine cheaper.

Thanks so much for this review. Excellent information for finding premium Bibles. I have been trying to find an Allan’s reader Bible, NASB, and never am lucky enough to find one on they’re personal site. eBay I have made offers based on what you can buy them for plus 30-60 dollars more. My offers always get turned down. Some of the Allan’s on eBay have shocked me on how much they are trying to sell them for. I’m now going to try Facebook, never thought of that. @@timwildsmith Hi Tim, I have been trying to get an NASB Allen Reader for about 3 months. I bought a Schuyler Quentel NASB and it weighs 4 pounds and is too large except for my studies. It is a lovely Bible. I looked at the Schuyler Quentel Personal but the font will be too small for me, and looked at the Cambridge Clarion, too small of print. I’ve also looked at the Steadfast, and it is a possibility. The reason I am wanting a smaller NASB is to read in bed. I was told in November that I have a year to 1 1/2 years to live. I have had chronic kidney disease for many year’s, but the Lupus and Mixed Connective Disorder are really doing a number on them. I have been home bound for going on 8-10 year’s due to other serious chronic health issues, and basically been ill for 40 year’s. It is a very long and complicated story. But, I watched another video you did today on the new Allan ESV Text Only Bible. I actually rushed to the site and think I purchased one. I only have a debit card through PayPal because it is so handy for my hubby to put my monthly allowance in it, and I’ve never purchased out of the US. I’ve had no activity show up on my PayPal, nor have I received an email from them. I definitely prefer the NASB over the ESV because I spent over 12 year’s studying Precept Upon Precept through Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries. I do not know how I will handle the ESV, but I want to read the Bible from Front cover to back cover before I die, and will end up in bed sleeping a lot, but will have plenty of time to get some reading in. Anyway, I didn’t plan on going through all this health stuff, just wanted you to know why I really want an NASB. I am fairly new to your channel, and I am so glad I found you. I enjoy your blogs and reading your reviews, etc. I will be a consistent viewer and thumbs up while I can. Thanks for the reply! ✝️
Thanks for sharing, @@2lpitzers. I pray that your reading of the Word brings you peace and comfort during this season. I hope my channel can continue to put a smile on your face.
If it matters to anyone, you should be aware that sometimes publishers sell what appears to be the same Bible cheaper on Amazon, but in the end they are actually printed in China rather than the typical European premium publishers, which are better at printing. That is not always the case, though. Personally I have a problem buying a premium Bible from a country known for their persecution of Christians.
Hmmm... perhaps you're thinking of Crossway, who moved production of their premium line to China last year (so they have new editions of Bibles that were previously printed in the Netherlands)... but I don't know of any publishers who manufacture in both places at the same time and feel different products on Amazon.
@@timwildsmith Yeah, now that you say that it was the Crossway OMGEA that was printed in both places. But Thomas Nelson prints their premium Bibles in China now, too.
This was really great video. I have begun picking up the Word on Fire Bible and definitely want to get the whole set, but I have been wanting a quality NRSV that is not a study Bible so I am tuning more into the Word itself. There aren’t a lot of premium versions of NRSV. I am thinking I will get the Single column reference, but was wondering for the really high end (one day) would you recommend the Schuyler or a topaz or something else?
I really enjoy the New English Bible. I don’t believe it is in print. I found 2 on eBay and the gave 1972 copyright so they are gently used. My original one was damaged so I wanted another leather bound. Not the hard bound ones I found in used bookstores. Great experience.
Who says an old guy can't learn new tricks? 🙂 I've been looking for deals on Bibles since the 1970s, yet I learned a few things watching your video. I just purchased a Buffalo Leather ESV study bible to replace one I had for years that was bonded leather. I could have afforded the next step up cover had I known what you showed in the video. I'm certainly not KJV Only, but the KJV is my favorite translation to read in my Morning and Evening devotions. Thus, I wanted a nice KJV with a larger size fount. Church Bible Publishers sells very nice Full Yapp bibles with Water Buffalo leather in hand size and mid-size. I picked up my mid-sized turquoise from CBP. Its my favorite Bible. I'll have to use your method to get a nice NKJV in premium Goatskin. I generally use the KJV, NKJV, ESV, and NASB 77. I never got into the NIV, though a few of my friends swear by it. Thanks for the great videos.

Welcome, Cindy! I often recommend the Schuyler Quentel to people who need larger print because their 11pt Milo Typeface reads VERY large. They make the Quentel in all three of those translations. I also really like the ESV Topaz from Cambridge.
Where can you get a two vols Bible (OT and NT) in a thinline format? It would be nice to hold a thin large print edition that does not way four pounds. Thanks.

Hi Tim👋, so I am 14 and about almost a year ago I began my journey with Christ, and i'm looking for a good quality but not too expensive ESV bible. What catergory on the Crossway website would you recommend I shop on?
Hey Polly! I'm a big fan of Crossway's cloth-over-board Bibles... which are usually affordable. If you want to go a bit nicer, I would look at anything that is genuine leather or "top grain" leather.
I'm from Brazil, so the biggest problem is shipping, which many times are more expansive than the Bibles themselves. How could I be able to circumvent this problem?
I have only seen Paul's Bibles up close once... they seemed pretty nice, but not in the same class as the premium Bibles I often feature on my channel.
@@JuanCastro6 Crossway is going to release a new Heirloom ESV Thinline next year... otherwise you might want to check out the new Omega they just released.
Ironically, those are rare. You can check out the Word on Fire Bible by Bishop Barron. However, it comes in installment. Only the Gospels are available for now.
@@Tax_Buster given that 50% of Christians are Catholic it seems strange we don’t have interest in premium Bibles. At the moment my daily reader is The Catholic Youth Bible.
@@bngr_bngr exactly! I really don’t understand why Catholics don’t make premium Bibles as much as or even more than Protestants do considering that Roman Catholics had a headstart of 1,500 years. Maybe it’s a sign of how generally disinterested Catholics are in the Bible.
@@bngr_bngr but not premium ones of course. Our various church and parachurch ministries give away free Bibles too. Ever heard of the Gideons for example?
Great video! I haven’t seen anyone else do this-good idea. What about Church Bible Publishers? Most of their stuff is semi-premium to (lower end) premium, but they have some amazing stuff, if you like the KJV. Because they are a ministry, the prices are super low. I have 2 Cambridge’s, 3 Schuylers, and 2 Premier Editions (plus a host of other semi- premiums and non-premiums). My favorite overall Bible is a CBP mid-sized wide margin Cameo-not one of the ones I just listed. It is a unique blue ironed calf skin, with silver lettering on the spine with raised ribs. It’s art gilded, silver over grey, and has two blues ribbons. It has good quality red lettering and good enough paper. It’s a really cool silver line version, and cost me a whopping $65.00. I don’t know of anywhere else, personally, where you can get a good edge lined, art gilded, leather Bible for $65.00. I also have one of their large size buffalo leather by AA Leather with three extra long ribbons. That was only $125.00. Their Cambridge Bibles aren’t as nice as Cambridge, but they are very nice and 1/3 the price. They also do some things that Cambridge doesn’t (such as my sliver line). Have you had any experience with them, positive or negative? I look forward to the next video.
Thanks, Gary. I’ve seen several CBP Bibles in person. They were nice, but as you said, not up there with the higher end editions from the publishers I mentioned in this video. I also know that Cambridge has stated publicly that CBP is not authorized to print Bibles like the Turquoise, but they do anyway. I don’t know all the details of that, but it’s given me some pause.
@@timwildsmith Really? That would be exceptionally disappointing for a ministry to steal from someone else or break copyright laws. I wonder if that format or text block is no longer protected due to time, and while Cambridge would like the ability not to give permission, they don't have that option. Thank you for the information.
Number 1 reason: longevity because of better quality Number 2 reason: better paper for reading and taking notes Number 3 reason: some of them have particular text blocks and font types and sizes.

Hey Polly! I'm a big fan of Crossway's cloth-over-board Bibles... which are usually affordable. If you want to go a bit nicer, I would look at anything that is genuine leather or "top grain" leather.
@@timwildsmith great suggestions! Thank you so much!
A bit late to the party, is there a premium bible in English and Hebrew ?
Not that I know of.
No love for Humble Lamb bibles?
Buy them direct!
@@timwildsmith after I commented I saw you did a video on one. Thanks
Why am I stuck on not buying a Bible printed in China? What might be the best company to purchase from where their Bibles are printed somewhere else?
Schuyler, Cambridge, and Allan produce the majority of their Bibles at Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands.
I'm from Brazil, so the biggest problem is shipping, which many times are more expansive than the Bibles themselves. How could I be able to circumvent this problem?
I don't know a way to avoid that.
I'm in Australia and know exactly what you are talking about. $$$
What do you think about Paul leather Bibles? Or what is another place you recommend to buy leather Bibles.
I have only seen Paul's Bibles up close once... they seemed pretty nice, but not in the same class as the premium Bibles I often feature on my channel.
@@timwildsmith so what would you recommend for a ESV Thinline.? Thanks for the reply.
@@JuanCastro6 Crossway is going to release a new Heirloom ESV Thinline next year... otherwise you might want to check out the new Omega they just released.
Is there a non reference, giant print, premium Bible? It seems impossible to find.
Or at least references at the bottom and not at the center, with all the qualifications mentioned above.
There are no giant print premium Bibles that I’m aware of.
I just got a psq bible on Amazon for 120. There was only one.
Hey-o!!
Are there premium Catholic bibles?
@@Tax_Buster my church gives out free bibles. Maybe that’s why.
Why do you need a premium Bible?
Number 1 reason: longevity because of better quality
Number 2 reason: better paper for reading and taking notes
Number 3 reason: some of them have particular text blocks and font types and sizes.
Hello from Germany

Here is a tip though. Read John 8:35 in any translation. And only 1 translation capitalizes Son, Webster bible also does I believe too but. Son=Jesus, son=any random dude. It changes the message big time. Get yourself a KJV. Its the most published, most preached, and most loved translation for a reason.
