      @@christopheroliver2465 I actually miss the futuristic style domes and multipurpose stadiums like Riverfront, Three Rivers, Astrodome, Veterans, Kingdome, Busch, Olympic Stadium. The mix of those type with the traditional like Comiskey, Fenway, Wrigley, Shea, Dodger Stadium was what made baseball fun in the 70's through 90's. Teams had to be well rounded to cope with the varying surfaces and sizes. Contrast the Astrodome in the Jose Cruz era with Wrigley Field and you will see. Astroturf vs grass, speed vs power. Very difficult to hit home runs in Houston in the 80's.

    Had George Bell continued to play beyond 93, he might have had a shot at the HOF. He played his final game at age 33. Another 4-5 seasons of similar play to much of his career would have yielded some impressive totals. He AVERAGED 101 RBIs per season over 9 years from 1984-92. His first injury-plagued season in 1993 was his last season.

    • @Joseph-lz5er
      @Joseph-lz5er 4 роки тому +3

      That could be said for a lot of borderline HOF players of the 80s players. Guys like Dale Murphy, George Bell, Don Mattingly, and others. Had they played few more years during the steriod/ juice ball era, their numbers would have increased dramatically, enhancing their chances of making it to the HOF. I mean, guys who used steroids are making it now, Piazza, Bagwell, Ivan Rod.

    This was right around the time when the players really started to get jacked. Kirby Puckett's traps were insane. I can't believe how huge Harold Baines looked. And the Rangers guys, Palmero actually looks small next to Sierra and Franco. Even the Oakland A's coaches were jacked! It would be a few years before "The Steroid Era" would manifest itself in inflated HR and slugging numbers, in fact, offensive production would drop significantly in '92. But you could see how big these dudes were already starting to get.

      It's funny that little more than a year after the SkyDome hosted the All-Star Game, Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore opened. That was, with its retro classic design, the real template for what baseball parks of the future had to be and look like. CBS during the last year of their contract with baseball (1993) actually wound up covering the All-Star Game in Baltimore.

    I think replays in sports is a waste of time. When I was growing up umpires were always right. They didn't make the right calls sometimes but the rule was they were always right. Want to make baseball go faster, get rid of instant replay instead of making b.s. rules that's ruining the game.

      Murray Eldon was the PA voice of the Blue Jays. Excellent at his craft, Mr. Eldon developed some outstanding batter intros when they approached the plate.
      He worked with "The Wizard of SkyDome", Nick Poulakis. Mr. Poulakis was the one who came up with the concept of "to the plate music". Quite often, the players offered their own choices. Some examples of original "to the plate" tunes were:
      The Babbets, "Mr. Lee" for Manuel Lee
      Hammer's "To Legit to Quit" for Roberto Alomar
      Joe Cocker's "Leave Your Hat On" for John Olerud
      The list goes on...
      Thanks Murray and Nick. You helped make going to the Dome a great experience.
