Dave Parker's throw is/was certainly great, but Gary Carter's protection of home plate is/was just as instrumental for the out being recorded. Gary Carter would've been the best overall catcher in the National League, if it wasn't for a HOF MLB player named Johnny Bench...
Him and Dave Parker. The “journalists” blackballed both those guys for their personal hardships. Because we know how perfect those journalists are they are all saints bahahaha!
I went to High School with Lonny Parker. Dave Parkers little Brother. He too was a good Baseball player too! I always wondered how come the Cincinnati Reds didn't get Dave Parker like they got Pete Rose? Because in 1979 The Pirates swept the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 to win the National League Pennant and go to face the Baltimore Orioles. I remembered that because I just completed my Freshman year at the University of Cincinnati. Also my Grandpa played baseball with Danny Murtaugh in Philadelphia when he was younger. What a small world it is!
Just think ... it would be more than a decade before the Mariners would make the playoffs and have one of the best teams in baseball with The Kid, Edgar, ARod, and the big unit.
And that 95 team was what went on to save baseball in Seattle, who I believe were bound for Tampa Bay, if that miracle run didn't happen. That which got them their needed new building, and a long term secure future in Seattle down the road too.
"Dave Parker, great defensive player with a strong arm..." Foreshadowing one of the greatest plays in all star history as Parker nailed Brian Downing at the plate keeping the game tied. And back in the days when the Phillies were stacked. Schmidt, Boone, Bowa, and Carlton started with Rose on the bench. They would finish 4th that year but won it all the following year.
And that was the 8th inning. Can you imagine a starter in today's era playing into the 8th inning? I think Dave Winfield also played deep into the game - 8 inning?

Gary Carter also R.I.P
I am enjoying several of these games on your channel. I watched 1974, 75, 80. And this one is my favorite because of the two Dave Parker plays. Thank you so much! By chance do you have 1977?
All we kids could talk about the next day was Dave Parker. He was a beast!!!
At the 3:15 mark, after Parker's throw, the Skin Bracer commercial, that's John Goodman !
It's at 3:14:56.
Man, talk about letting yourself go!!! He doesn't even look like John Goodman!
These guys are playing like its a play-off game! Watched this live when I was 13. Good times
JOE G was awesome... loved NBC sports Tony Kubick was great too
Dave Parker's throw is/was certainly great, but Gary Carter's protection of home plate is/was just as instrumental for the out being recorded.
Gary Carter would've been the best overall catcher in the National League, if it wasn't for a HOF MLB player named Johnny Bench...
マイク・シュミットかっこいい!あとライアン、リン、パーカー、フォスターガービー、ジャクソン、カールトンヤストレムキー 本当にオールスターメンバー
rip to so many.at this game. i loved joe"s voice. takes me to a beautiful, simpler place in the past. wish i could go back
Steve Garvey was one of the most disciplined hitters I have ever seen play. Shame he didn't make the HOF.
Him and Dave Parker. The “journalists” blackballed both those guys for their personal hardships. Because we know how perfect those journalists are they are all saints bahahaha!
Garvey made the Lothario Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
@@navyguyinvawhile he was married to Cyndy Garvey.
Hopefully he gets the next important job and kick schiff butt
I loved this era of baseball
Back when the players went all out and really loved competing in the midsummer classic!!
My dad took me and my brother to this game. They almost ran out of balls during BP ... a lot of souvenirs in left and right field
I love those road blues from the National league teams.
I was there in person. Thanks for posting!
Cool 👍
@@David-su2vv It was a simpler time. To get in I walked over there from my little cinema, bought a ticket, and walked in.
Dennis Nyback my
My first game was Yankee Stadium.....1966....saw Mickey Mantle hit a home run. 👍
Darryl Porter very good catcher in his day RIP.....
Who is the Cubs oldtimer in the wonderfully hokey potato chip commercial at 1:38:50? (Batboy? BATBOY??) is that Fergie Jenkins?
Just think ... it would be more than a decade before the Mariners would make the playoffs and have one of the best teams in baseball with The Kid, Edgar, ARod, and the big unit.
And that 95 team was what went on to save baseball in Seattle, who I believe were bound for Tampa Bay, if that miracle run didn't happen. That which got them their needed new building, and a long term secure future in Seattle down the road too.
These names brought back memories.
Loves 1970&1980s all star baseball ⚾️ games
“Every shave is like a trip to the tropics.”
It just hit me. There was no DH in this all-star game, but it’s played at an American League Park. When did they start allowing the DH?
...on a very dark day.... ;(
"Dave Parker, great defensive player with a strong arm..." Foreshadowing one of the greatest plays in all star history as Parker nailed Brian Downing at the plate keeping the game tied. And back in the days when the Phillies were stacked. Schmidt, Boone, Bowa, and Carlton started with Rose on the bench. They would finish 4th that year but won it all the following year.
And that was the 8th inning. Can you imagine a starter in today's era playing into the 8th inning? I think Dave Winfield also played deep into the game - 8 inning?
phillies were ravaged by injuries that season.... they were probably the best team when healthy
@@gary6754 well, we had a hell of a bounce back year the next year.
Baseball...When the grass WASN'T real! LOL!! Sure was great to see 'The Meal Ticket', the late, GREAT Carl Hubbell...KING CARL!! It seems 'weird' now when the ump doesn't throw that ball out of the game when a pitch hits the ground! LOL!! It also is nice to see just the game on the screen and not all the freakin' crap they have on the screen today!
Loved the Cobra growing up!
Nolan Ryan was a freak of nature. No one will have have the power pitching like the Alvin Express
How sad that I have to watch old baseball games to watch REAL Baseball 😢no instant replay, no pitch clock, no overshifting or shift rules ..pure baseball
Three 86 Mets in the game. Carter, Maz and Keith
Brett ("midget on steroids") & Aaron Boone sighting with dad Bob around the 3rd inning.
"Ryan starting this game with three days rest, so he should be strong." LMAO!
He started something like a third of his career starts pitching every 4th game instead of every 5th so that wasn't a big deal for him.
at 3;49 is the best throw EVER IN ALL STAR HISTORY.
Umpires (24:15)
HP George Maloney (AL) (Crew Chief) (2nd)
1B Lee Weyer (NL) (3rd)
2B Nick Bremigan (AL) (1st)
3B Billy Williams (NL) (3rd)
LF Terry Cooney (AL) (1st)
RF Dutch Rennert (NL) (1st)
Morgana.had a kiss for Brett.
The two best parts of.the game
Bruce Bochte was a legend in his own pants.
The 1979 MLB All-Star Game, at The Kingdome, in Seattle, Washington, is unforgettable. 7-6 NL All-Stars!!!
The MLB All Star Game seemed less staged, less produced back then. And yeah, the uniforms totally rocked! Also, anyone else notice it seemed like the players did a lot less spitting back then? Maybe the spitting did not have a branded sponsor?
Boy I love those Philadelphia Phillie uni's and also the Houston Astros were authentic..... San Diego Padres too....
I love the mid-70s Braves shirts and the anytime 70s Expos caps.
This was Baseball - REAL BASEBALL
1:08:30 Discussing the Fantastic pitching staff of the Houston Astros, and I like what they said about James Rodney Richard ...Willie Stargell says his fast ball can start a forest fire it's so hot! 😄😄👍 Just think ... Nolan Ryan would sign with the Astros in the offseason becoming Baseball's first $1.00 Million per year player! 😄😄
Yes some were gaudy looking but i love most of the old uniforms.
Saturday afternoon game of the week was classic!!
Aaron Boone was just a kid back then at 1:24:51 into this game. But now he looks so mightily stressed. Difficult to even believe he ever was a little kid to look at him now. Wow! Being Yankees manager is massively stressful.
I do too! If we could turn back the clock, I’d be there forever.
Lots of Hall of Famers on the NL squad. Only a couple on the other side.
This is the year i started following BB at 9 yrs old.
I was 9 also but believe it or not started following in 74. By 75 I had collected over 120 topps cards with the quarters my Grandpa would give me.
@@uncletony6210 the Geo Brett, Robin Yount rookies. Good year to be a fan.
@@daBEAGLE1017 Yeah, I had the Brett. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the cards anymore but I am in the process (literally, as you sent this message) of recreating my collection electronically. I collected 1975 to 1978 (we moved overseas in 79) and I had over 270 cards.
@@uncletony6210 dont feel bad, i had many, many, many more than that. I too lost mine when i moved out. Oh well. Stupid us along with the millions of other kids who collected cards. Now everyone saves everything and they are worth bumpkins. Remember beanie babies?
@@daBEAGLE1017 Hey, I got more enjoyment flicking through my stacks as a kid than I would have from the few hundred dollars I would have gotten for them today.
Check out the commercial with Carlton Fisk at 2:36:09 . You don't see those anymore!!!!
Steve Garvey's helmet looks like it's the wrong shade of Dodger blue.
looks like they forgot to bring his and just resorted to spray painting one.
I was 16 on this day 🌈 Classic times indeed ⭐️full of Hall of Fame players ⭐️
Those were the daya when 31 hrs led the league.
Joe Garagiola, Tony Kubek & Tom Seaver on NBC.
Garagiola (PBP) Kubek/Seaver (C) 1-4/7-9
Kubek (PBP) Garagiola/Seaver (C) 5-6
NBC should have given an opportunity to Garagiola to call some of their NFL telecasts. He would have been good although he was a baseball guy.
@@tommyparkerparker I don't know if Joe Garagiola would be good at football. He was a baseball man his entire life. He worked mainly with Curt Gowdy & Tony Kubek for his entire NBC career.
who did Dave elope with? (Davey Lopes) love the old commercials.❤️
