I was thinking Ricky displayed BIpolar disorder & or schizophrenia. I lived with a lady that is bipolar with delusional tendencies & Ricky reminded me of her & how she acted & the things she did. I'm sorry but some were shouting at him few times and forcing him to do things he doesn't want to.
You're right! Hoarders need time to adjust. That's their life all wrapped in piled &tied around them. They have other issues that has caused them to escape normal logic about"items" like others.
That is true, but as many local government authorities have found, the polite letter, lots of time and space, etc usually results in...nothing. He had years pre-show to change things himself in private, and while I agree the false 3-day time pressure is for drama and problematic, the people are aware of it before they agree to participate.
Uhhh, like all the time where his brother has been paying his fines? Stop enabling this behaviour. People have to do things they don't want to. You can't consent to putting yourself in danger. You have to wear a seatbelt in a car. No one cares about your fee-fees.
Once they get pictures of the living conditions the brother should have no problem getting care services for his brother. He might try to get him declared incompetent so he can take over his affairs and get him some place safe. Because I am afraid this is going to happen again as soon as the other brother leaves
He's lucky that the crew is such good people. His words seriously convinced me that he was not interested in any help. And the moment he threw the knife, I would've turned around and left. Right there on the spot.
I’m surprised the clinical psychologist who specialises in hoarding... just went straight in for the kill. He seems depressed, anxious, troubled. This program needs to be more specialised from case by case, he needs long term counselling and help, yes. It’s hard for his brother and family who obviously cares a lot about him, but you can’t just walk into a build up of what he sees as his life and expect him to just say “yeah okay! Thanks” in three days. We’re talking about years and years of issues and hoarding. Seriously. This one is one of the saddest and most inconsiderate clean ups I’ve seen. i really hope they don’t just leave him like this. I hope his family get him the help he needs and PROVIDE him with the company he needs.
What happened to his previous family….🥺🥺🥺. Sending Ricky love and commending REAL life walking heroes that helped! True giving is not what we get back, these folks are amazing.
I wonder what was the cause of his hoarding. Generally they reveal how the hoarder had a tragic episode in their life such as the loss of a loved one or had lost their job and much of what they owned. This guy Ricky loves to read books and collects all kinds of books as well as holds onto a lot of useless junk and trash. But after all that junk got cleaned out I bet he went right back to replacing what was hauled away.
Based on the way he was left, with most of his hoard untouched, due to safety concerns, it's so much easier for him to fall back into it. With a lot of clips I see, the hoarder no longer has much of a reminder of the old stuff, which makes it less difficult to relapse. Ricky was given a few emptied rooms, whilst having so much access to everything that wasn't removed.
If you won’t let a crew go in there to work why is it safe for the person to stay there? I don’t understand why adult protective services wasn’t called right away and he removed from the home and now I’m condemned. This is ludicrous to even do the show on this guy. He needs serious psych help.
He has a safe place to be after they cleaned a room in a house that will be demolished because of its condition? Are they nuts? An institution would be a safe place for that man, where he would get care and therapy. I cannot understand why families do not understand that these type of hoarders lost their mental capacity and they need a daily care.
I genuinely hope this man gets some help. This has crossed the line from gross to dangerous. Him and his house are clearly a danger to himself and other people
I’m very surprised that with that much structural damage to that house that it wasn’t condemned. I’m also surprised that that Doctor didn’t call APS ~> THE MAN WOULDN’T THROW AWAY MOULDY ORGANIC MATTER!! And I say “matter” because you couldn’t tell what it was, for a minute I thought it might have been animal (or human) excrement. If this man isn’t a candidate for assisted living I don’t know who is. This one pulled at my heart strings a little, I hope he’s ok.
That house needs pulling down and condemned. He seriously needs psychiatric help… and I’m sure he will fill up the cleared space as soon as the crew leave. Sad

I understand! I am proud to say I love my room now because I planned my new room and got a loft bed in my room(small room) and I now have a couch under my bed and lots and lots of new shelfs and I can lay on my floor and stretch my legs!! My dolls have new shelfs so they are organised and I am working on clearing my DVD shelf and I have a mini cinema under my bed because of a new projector and my room just feels and looks soo much better and I couldn't sit in my room comfortably or do anything because there was so much stuff! I actually wrapped presents in my new room for the first time in years ! 😁😁😁
@@brandenburg2388 That's incredible! Keep fighting the good fight and taking care of yourself 💕
Best of luck mate! You can get through this, you’ve already realised you have a problem and that’s already a major step towards recovery.
I believe in you :)
Every time I watch one of these shows I end up scratching all over. I also end up deep cleaning…and throwing out tons of stuff..my husband loves it
Same..I also watch 600 lb life while I do my daily workout!
I do the very same thing, with the deep cleaning. I already throw away things on a regular basis, so I really don't have anything to throw out, but you can guarantee I will find things to get rid of even if I have to look very hard for it. And the cleaning will go on for days & I only live in a 2 bedroom apartment by myself, so I am basically cleaning something that is already clean. I can't stand filth & I'm a neat freak, plus I organize everything so this show sends me into overdrive with cleaning & organizing. But I would rather be like I am than live like the hoarders do.
Me too 😆
Can I borrow your condition....minus the scratching?😀
@@Ujuani68 absolutely! Just started the storage room. Donated a bunch of comforters to one of the emergency animal clinics, they use them for the kennels there. Not only getting rid of stuff but sending it to those who can really use it.
I would love to see an update on this gentleman. I know he needs continued support physically and mentally to get better. This man needs a few episodes on hoarders , and maybe that would help pay for the continued support.
I felt it was hopeless...until the last few minutes where it sinks in that he loves his little clean space. It seemed to connect with him. Like he remembered and desired normalcy again. With time and help...he might have a shot.
4:34 See the way that doll's head is just randomly stuck onto that plank of wood... 😮
actually it holds an electrical cable... every piece of trash has its own purpose in hoarders perspective of view, my father is one of them, I silently trash 10 big bags every day from 1000sq basement... will take months but will make it to the end.
@@noobblet1996 has he figured out you're doing that?

Be strong Ricky. You deserve to be happy.
This man is a danger to himself. He’s also negatively impacting his neighbor’s property. Would you want to live next door to that?

This was probably the saddest episode I have ever seen
He is far deeper than any of the others I know of so far. He means no harm and you could tell he was INCREDIBLY grateful and happy at the end, but they were pushing the trauma buttons
He was far too overstimulated:(
As a former meth addict I gotta say he is 100% a meth head. Hyper focused on reading books, or not sleeping and staying up all night cleaning 1 area only making it worse, extremely easily aggravated. Definitely all signs of meth abuse. Hopefully he's gotten some help, I know I ddnt quit until hitting rock bottom and getting counseling/ treatment
How can differentiate between drug use and mental illness without testing? Any other clues you are seeing?
these are also symptoms of mania (BPD, schizophrenia and others)
Not necessarily. These are common symptoms for people with various mental conditions too. Correlation isn't causation.
No… a meth head would not have the wherewithal to keep up with all those books all those years. He has manic depression and maybe even schizophrenia.
And I see sadness and an emptiness he feels that he thinks only things can fill.
He's 60 years old and he's been living in that house his entire life. Making a change at that age is impossible.
What a beautiful room the team made for him. All book lovers like to see their books. He looked so happy with the results. I hope that he took the help that the teams offered. He clearly needs it.
He’s so fortunate to have brothers that wanted to help him.
‘Square Foot Gardening’ is a good book.
There was a show on PBS back in the 80s and 90s, too
If he steals books as well as hoarding them he may have bibliomania. There's also obviously some other mental health issue like untreated bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. My uncle has schizophrenia and he reminds me of the way my uncle was at certain bad points in his life.
I was thinking Ricky displayed BIpolar disorder & or schizophrenia. I lived with a lady that is bipolar with delusional tendencies & Ricky reminded me of her & how she acted & the things she did. I had to get away from her when some of the things she did left me feeling like my safety & my life were in jeopardy if I stayed with her or even maintained a friendship with her. So I cut her from my life for my own well being. Ricky reminded me of her
Safe place to live?! In that structurally deficient house? He should have been removed by Dept. of Human Services due to being a danger to himself and others. Zasio failed at her job to report the situation.
Each State has different codes and laws. Also, DHS is a Federal agency...

Mental illness at a level far beyond this show's capability. The house beyond repair as well. Tear it down to the ground and cart the debris away to a landfill.
I kind of feel like a dome needs to be lowered over the top of it and lots of fire to destroy all the pathogens that are doubtless thriving in there
Oh my goodness, I think Ricky's house is the worst hoarder's house I've ever seen. My anxiety escalated so quickly seeing those messy, mouldy, rooms. I hope things will get better for him. He deserves to be happy 💜
Just keep watching Hoarders. There are far worse places than Ricky's. And that's so sad to say. So sad
Shanna's house: 👁👄👁
@@kimberlypoole5325 I can only think of two that were actually worse than that: Shanna, and that couple that had the water coming up from the toilet and soaking the carpets... Every other that was terribly worse had the person get evicted (like that Chinese woman who had rooms so full she crawled to reach the living room).

"think of the fireman" that's pertinent.
I love Dr. Zasio!!!! And Corey!! They're both awesome!!
It scary to see a hoarder light up a cigarette surrounded by their hoard.
I was really concerned for Ricky. He needs to be out of there, maybe staying with someone else, a family member if possible. Basically that house is a tragedy waiting to happen. Ricky needs some serious help, intensive psychiatric support, and possibly medication to help get his compulsions under control. You can tell he is suffering.
What family wants to have this nightmare brought into Thier own house?
Hes already been on drugs dude
Sadly, this poor man is gonna end up dying in that home.😔

I have worked with the houseless population in microhome communities and the "they are sold in stores" excuse is often used for having candles and heat lamps. It's a huge disconnect. It doesn't help. He will end up street bound. It sucks but our system isn't built to help these people long term.
It was kind of the crew to set up the "safe option" room for the gentleman. I love the design of the room - I have gained some decorating ideas. I would consider having the book shelving like the one featured.
The real crime is that it's nearly impossible to commit folks like Rick, and get them the help they need.
Yet, Britney Spears is kept prisoner 13 years...
Maybe I’m not compassionate enough, but this is one of those episodes where you need to just take him away to an institution and level/burn it down. Force his separation from possessions and tell him after the fact, “oh by the way it’s all gone. Have a good day”.
Well if he keeps smoking and by the sound of his coughing and wheezing he wont be around for much longer anyhow 🤷♂️

Books are beautifully awesome and precious. If you aren’t respecting them, they need to go.
So true, so true.
The library is filled with books that we can check out to read & then return. Cutting out the need to buy & store them anywhere in our homes. Thus not creating a book hoard like Ricky had & so many others I've seen on Hoarders.
He was so used to living like that I don't even think he realized he could have a nice clean space like the room he was left with. When he saw it he looked overcome with joy but he fought so hard to keep them from cleaning it.
That's one good brother and Ricky needs to thank God he has him

I know he was acting a bit aggressively, but they should understand how hoarders feel in these situations, adding that he is an old man who's been living like this for years! they can't just change it right away, they should be giving him more time.
I'm sorry but some were shouting at him few times and forcing him to do things he doesn't want to.
You're right! Hoarders need time to adjust. That's their life all wrapped in piled &tied around them. They have other issues that has caused them to escape normal logic about"items" like others.
I hear you but sometimes you need tough love and a big push.
That is true, but as many local government authorities have found, the polite letter, lots of time and space, etc usually results in...nothing. He had years pre-show to change things himself in private, and while I agree the false 3-day time pressure is for drama and problematic, the people are aware of it before they agree to participate.
@@bigb853, not in matters like this.
Uhhh, like all the time where his brother has been paying his fines? Stop enabling this behaviour. People have to do things they don't want to. You can't consent to putting yourself in danger. You have to wear a seatbelt in a car. No one cares about your fee-fees.
I like how Rick tells us his name like he’s trying to convince us
😄😄😄 I went back to the beginning. You're right!
Once they get pictures of the living conditions the brother should have no problem getting care services for his brother. He might try to get him declared incompetent so he can take over his affairs and get him some place safe. Because I am afraid this is going to happen again as soon as the other brother leaves
These people need to be institutionalized and years of therapy because they're clearly a hazard to themselves and others.
This was only 10 mins of the episode so I'm sure way more was shown in the full episode...might shed more light on what actually did happen.
I could tell almost immediately he is completely out of his mind.
I'm just amazed they found the knives in that mess
What happened to his previous family….🥺🥺🥺.
Sending Ricky love and commending REAL life walking heroes that helped! True giving is not what we get back, these folks are amazing.
His house looks like a serial killer's house with that plastic around it.
😂😂
Agree...
It could be any one or a combination of many things: anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
I can only guess he didn’t want anything like that mentioned. He seems to not want any of them there.
Rick: "I'm Rick. I've got some problems in life"
Some problems???? Looks like you've tons and tons of problems in life.
I’m genuinely digging that neon yellow collared shirt with sweater look.
I'll take a guess that Ricky also needs some depression, anxiety and bipolar medication.
Whenever I don't feel like cleaning I watch an episode of this show and it makes me want to clean 😂😂
The house is ready to collapse-a wonder the town hasn't condemned it.
If you won’t let a crew go in there to work why is it safe for the person to stay there? I don’t understand why adult protective services wasn’t called right away and he removed from the home and now I’m condemned. This is ludicrous to even do the show on this guy. He needs serious psych help.
His brother is an enabler.
"And I think I am... (stare intensifies) a magnet for books."

@4:35 The baby doll head mounted on the wall is horror-movie inspiring, how is he ok with his house being like this
I have watched two of these shows back to back. I cannot watch anymore. It is so depressing. Sigh!
He has a safe place to be after they cleaned a room in a house that will be demolished because of its condition? Are they nuts? An institution would be a safe place for that man, where he would get care and therapy. I cannot understand why families do not understand that these type of hoarders lost their mental capacity and they need a daily care.
Best episode ever 🙂 I really hope this guy also gets a ton of after care. Must have been totally insane for him.
It’s crazy what you all have to go through to help these people, It takes good people to do what yous do
I genuinely hope this man gets some help.
Sad
Man this is bipolar or schizophrenia… This is way beyond a cleaning job
His brother should've called in a city inspector and had the dump condemned and burned to the ground
What a compassionate solution 🤪🤨
As my grandmother is a hoarder, a hoarder in denial, I’ve seen firsthand when a hoarder gets mad and throws a fit and a tantrum for throwing away stuff that’s no good.
There are TOO MANY PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET! He is SO disposable.

How sad he’s clearly unwell,he’s just been left to get worse
