    Jake shouldn't be allowed to have a pet! The dog who died in one of his two fires probably got trapped in the mess and couldn't find its way out!

    • @sheriek2777
      @sheriek2777 7 місяців тому

      The saving grace , if any,, Is that the dog almost certainly died of carbon monoxide long, long before the fire ever reached him.
      One of my adult male cousins silently suffered chronic deep depression for many years and lived with his elderly widowed mother. Daniel set their home on fire and went to bed one afternoon.
      He was ordained as an minister in middle age. He preached at many small town, to many small congregations who could not afford to even share the cost of a half time pastor. So his only income was “good will offerings” which did little more than pay for his gasoline. He devoted a huge amount of hours weekly to those congregations, preparing sermons, visiting the sick, etc as rural pastors do. He desperately wanted to be called to a home church as at least a half time pastor. It wasn’t to be.
      He died of smoke exposure, and the fire never reached him before it was extinguished. We were told that it appeared that he had peacefully gone to sleep. His mother was in her 90s recovering from a slip and fall in a nursing home at the time. Although she was still of sound mind, she would not have been physically able to live at home for many years without Daniel’s help, and they were good companions, supporting each other And enjoying life, all in all, living with each other. His mother survived him for quite a long time, but never left the nursing home to live. Rest in Peace, Daniel and Aunt Delores

      I agree that he should not have pets ever. He burned down two homes. A friend of mine lost her mother and her precious little dog (that I raised from birth until she adopted her) in a fire. The house was messy but not hoarded. A fan motor caught fire. My friend and her cousin were able to escape. But Ruth and little Delilah-Lu perished from smoke inhalation.
      Meanwhile that dumb f!ck burns down two houses, kills a pet, learns nothing and is still alive

    Hoarding is a severe mental illness. People have suffered incredible trauma and loss. I grew up with this. Never had a space of my own no bedroom until I unburied a space for myself. Could never have friends over too ashamed. I remember maggots on the dishes. As a grown woman I’ve cleared out so many rooms so many times only for them to go right back to being hoarded. I live with chronic anxiety and depression. Live minimalistic to the point of not being able to keep anything I bring home because it’s like ptsd to keep it. It’s an awful upbringing there’s no room for you to develop an identity of your own. Therapy made all the difference for me, I’ve forgiven but I’ll never forget that anxiety and depression will never leave me, all I can do is manage.

    I once tried cleaning up a Hoarder's appartement. It was tiny (ca. 12 squaremeters). The rubbish was gone by this point but I just felt overwhelmed, there was so much damage done by the roaches and the neglect.... (roach shit basically covered everything and went 2 mt up all the walls). And the electricity was shut off, so no hot water from the boiler. It's a neverending hell of fillth. It takes at least 5 liters of water, changed at least 3 times, and a barrage of cleaning supplies and sponges to just clean 1 squaremeter of this mess. It's just unimaginable for the mainstream people. It's insanity, hell.

Seems like their worrying and not being cared for made them age faster whereas he seems… unbothered to the point of delusional, absolutely not factoring in what he’s doing to them and not taking any responsibility. My best woman friend lived in another town as the years passed. She was single, and spent every holiday, every family event, weeks at a time with us. I hadn't been to her home in five or six years because she wanted to be with us. She died suddenly, discovered when I called police for a welfare check. She was living in a hoard, a dog crap/pee saturated pile in every room, including the bathroom. It reeked, was filled with garbage and dirty clothes. No one knew. I was sad beyond
    belief in I couldn't help her, or talk to her about her hoard. God keep Karen, loved forever.

    My mother and aunt were hoarders. They were raised during the great depression. It didn't get bad until they got older. Lots of arguments would come up if any of us tried to clean or remove items. If we cleaned while she was out of town, she would just hoard more stuff. It took us 2 years to clean out her house after she (my mother) died. It was a mess.

      That must have been so hard to deal with. I was so grateful that my parents left their funeral arrangements all paid for. My sister and I took 12 hours and did an estate sale and cleared their home out and a man and woman team came and took everything that did not sell away for free. Again, I can’t imagine what you had to go through; all the emotions of losing a parent and then the anger and sadness that this is what you were left with.

I have stopped organising and cleaning. She just sits amongst her junk all day. She bought a kitten and was frantic as she 'lost it' for 3 days in the junk. • @smileyfried1313
      @smileyfried1313 2 місяці тому +4

      Her sons are not responsible for her mental illness and disorder. There are points where you need to accept that the hoarding isn't going to get better until they are ready to change (and you can't force them to change). If you haven't dealt with hoarders, it might be hard to understand.
      You can help them clean, but it's a process and it usually ends up getting just as bad (sometimes worse). If you try to "help" them by going in and just start throwing out everything, that can be traumatic to the hoarder and make their hoarding worse long-term. They usually need therapy and/or to be ready to that change (if they ever change).

    It is a trauma-based injury in the mind. They fear loss and the stuff protects them like a duvet from feeling the pain of loss. It does not help to fight the symptoms (= get rid of the stuff) but the main problem (= being able to feel the pain and to let go of all trauma) needs to be adressed psychologically first to prevent them to start to hoard again to get rid of unpleasant feelings.
