Very neat video. A lovely car. I did not have to find my 1990 240DL wagon. Ma bought Arthur new as her 60th birthday present to herself. She put the first 300,000 km on him in 25½ years. In the 6 years I have had him, I've added another 300,000. The original automatic transmission is still working perfectly. The old boy does about 8.5 litres/100km. Not bad. Arthur does like to cruise at between 125 and 130 km/h, so that fuel consumption is not bad. I plan to retire in 5 years, and when I do, Arthur will make the 5,200 km, 4 country drive. Should be fun. Hey thanks for the sub! I hope you manage to get it, that's some crazy low mileage! Here in Europe they are much more expensive than there, I'll ask a couple of American volvo guys to see if they can help with figures
@@Involvod You’re welcome! I’m liking your content, and thanks for looking out! I’ve been fascinated with these cars for sometime and finally decided to pull the trigger. It has one owner and sat in an old garage for a lot of its life recently. They have it listed for 5k which seems a bit steep for US prices? I like the idea of the new fuel pump and ac compressor, and that might be why it’s a bit higher?
The fascination will intensify when you have one, I always liked 240s but since owning one I'm absolutely crazy about them 😅 I think if it's rust free and genuine mileage maybe that's not too far off, but I've asked a couple of guys that know the market better
@@Involvod Looks fairly clean. I’ll snap some pics tomorrow after I give it a test drive! Thanks for all the help! It’s awesome to find good channels like yours! Very much appreciated.
I had a response from one guy "Hmmm. Without seeing pictures I would say it's easily $2,000 judging by milage alone, unless it's got a busted odometer. Sometimes clean and beautiful examples can run upwards of $6,000-$8,000. It also depends on where he's located as well. In the north east where I am from. They tend to be worth a bit more than in middle america. Big cities in places like California they can be worth higher values than somewhere in Alabama or Georgia. I know that's probably not a huge help. But if it's running driving and stopping I'd say $2,000 is a minimum." So maybe their pricing is not far off if it's a really nice example. I'm sure you are aware but have a good root around for rust, front floor pans, rear arches, rear spare wheel well, trunk panel behind the lights, rear chassis as you can see in my 'rotten 240' video, if there's rust you can see there's always more! Good luck let me know how you get on!
As a general practice, do you buy cars sight unseen? Or do you get it on a hoist for a thorough going over before you agree to buy it? How do you make your decision to buy?
I never agree to buy or even leave a deposit without seeing the car first, this was just a punt as it was a reasonable price and seemed to look good, but if it hadn't of been, then it would have been another 6 hours train ride back home, risky I know, but when it comes to old Volvos .... 😃
Just picked up my 88 a month ago in Florida. Payed 400 for it. Idles at 2 grand in park but idles at 1grand in drive and reverse. Already checked IACV. Anyone know what this could be ?! Thanks in advance.

I NEVER thought that Volvo would be so dn reliable my 1999 volvo T5 cross country sat at my neighbors house for three years for no reason other than that they bought a new one my XC cross country AWD has 199,000 miles I live in the northern states was 10 degrees cranked right up doesn't skip a beat and still has plenty of power I am now a Volvo fan thinking about buying a new Volvo within the next year great content you have and wow I didn't know yall have KFC lol also why is Volvo so damn reliable anyhow? Not complaining one bit obviously but how? Just seems our USA 🇺🇸 cars are going to sh@$ lol
Haha yeah they really are, even when they're not, the keep going at least! And thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
One for me thank's!
I’m American, but I’m a now a new subscriber! I’m also about to pull the trigger on a ‘88 240 GL w/99k miles, new fuel pump, new AC compressor. What is a fair price for that car for when I go into negotiations? Thanks for any feedback!
But if it's running driving and stopping I'd say $2,000 is a minimum."
So maybe their pricing is not far off if it's a really nice example.
@@Involvod Thanks.
im not in the woods it just looks like i am ... is in a field with 3 tree's, most british take ever lol good on you my dude haha you had me laughing
Greetings from sweden 🇸🇪 👍
Greetings! You guys sure know how to build a car 😃
Just picked up my 88 a month ago in Florida. Payed 400 for it. Idles at 2 grand in park but idles at 1grand in drive and reverse. Already checked IACV. Anyone know what this could be ?! Thanks in advance.
Wow, nice score! I would check for air leaks next
12 hour round trip?..I hope she's worth it lol.
Thanks, pretty crazy right, I'll pop up a vid in a few days of my findings 😅
Great start: man goes to get 30 year old Volvo on sight, and only takes a roll of gaffer tape.
So lovely but the work one needs to put into it.
Can you bay a d24?
Hopefully one day 😉
What is it with people staying in the middle lane?!?
I know right, seems to be a worldwide problem !
I'm gonna answer without watching the video, yes it will.
Ofc it did, its a volvo.
IT wil even be here after us as a human race these old volvos would still be Standing around the world as ancient monuments after the apocalypse for thousands of years
most 240s will drive all the way home towing the factory they were built in if given half a chance
Haha, so true!
nice
Hey 👋 how much did you pay for it ?🙈 schöne Grüße aus Österreich 😉
Hey! I paid €2300 which I think was ok all things considered
currently considering to buy a 240 but it’s kinda expensive for me😬 i have to think about it. Thank you ☺️
They are getting very expensive now, but soon they will be way more so if you find a good deal you should definitely jump on it! Good luck 🙂
Worried about 400 miles? Hello! They never stop.
Of course it run. Is a Volvo
so cool. my numberplate is MOL-VO ...
Nice! You'll like the new B plate I've chosen for her
This "brick" stops accelerating at 177 kph. Modern cars go 190 kph with that amount of horses, some even 200. It is not sleak by any strech of the imagination.
Why wouldn't it? It's a Volvo...
Ah yes, hard to beat the high of buying and driving a classic car (or that car you've always wanted) home for the very first time
* better than sex...there, i said it! :P
I have to watch what I say, Miss Involvo'd reads the comments, but it's definitely up there 😃
@@Involvod i hear you loud and clear man...keep up the great uploads 👍
6:59 Gosh I hate those people.
I noticed it during editing so I had to cut that scene way down as it's frustrating to watch 😂
@@Involvod Yeah. Drives me up the walls irl and in video too :D
Shame because I really enjoyed the time-lapses and your driving was spot on.
as an american i approve of kfc.
