I remember hearing this on the radio almost every day back in 1985 as I was getting ready to graduate junior high school. You could hear it in the malls, in taxi cabs, on the radio (even Black radio was playing Tears For Fears "Shout" regularly) What a glorious summer that was. The most perfect time to live in North America as a teenager. What a lot of people didn't understand at the time was that the title of the album ("Songs from the Big Chair") was themed as if the singer was sitting in a psychiatrists chair and the songs on the album were his confession therapy to the psychiatrist. The "Big Chair" = Psychiatry patient's chair.
Sir, but @least U & I heard all of this great music as is was coming out. It was during my University years. Best time of my Life. The music, my studies, my complete happiness @the time in my life.
this song evokes driving on the open road, movement, motion, carefree. the fantastic official video enforces all this and still holds up today - minus the phone booth lol - timeless and classic.
For me personally I’m 65years old now and Tears for Fears we’re possibly thee most underrated band of their era they had a collection of fantastic songs and I’m glad I was there and lived through this fantastic decade of music but it’s good that the younger generations like yourselves are appreciating these superb classics.
They're not talking about marriage when they say "married, with a lack of vision". It's "indecision married with a lack of vision" meaning that the indecision is coupled with a lack of vision.
The most underrated group of the 1980’s ….period.These England guys, both great singers, had a top notch drummer and keyboardist behind them.At least 20 hits between them and separate.Video to this and others of their’s are great…they are the epitome of cool. You may have heard one of their hits” Shout” or “ Head Over Heels”…. Popular.Great review by you two as usual.
Quincy Jones said that MJ "stole" the Everybody Wants To Rule The World bass line and used it in The Way You Make Me Feel which was released 2 years after if I'm not mistaken. Apparently TFF gave permission for that :) great reaction guys!
@@Retrospective. I've heard that said before. Personally, I don't hear it myself (I'm a musician). The only real similarity between TFF and Simple Minds' track is that they both use a generic swing groove for the bass, which is hardly unique. However, the musical and rhythmic similarities between the bass grooves of TFF and MJ are undeniable.
There’s a song called One step closer by Gavin Christopher that uses the same baseline too..TFF was released first. Gavin Christopers song is worth a listen
@@1939lb oh right, yes, I love that tune One Step Closer To You by Gavin Christopher. It sure has that beat from The Way You Make Me Feel. But it sure holds it's own, too. Thanks for the refresh!
Big song from 1985. Tears for Fears were iconic in their day. If you like this try "Head over Heals" and "Sowing the Seeds of Love". Love your reaction.
Tears for fears filled their songs ,no gaps full production , its so great to see you young people listening and reacting to music that is from my era , you are both always constructive and positive with your reactions keep them coming, another great song little known by them is Woman in chains
One of their greatest hits! "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" "Shout" "Head Over Heels" are a few of their other hits. They have been friends since college. I suggest you watch the music video to this as well, you won't be disappointed.
My all time favorite is Shout and I also enjoy Elemental. I really enjoy listening to my almost namesake Roland Orzabal. Very articulate, and with such projection that is like a powerful voice for all to hear and listen. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him. Very talented man. Never had a chance to see them in concert.
For five weeks, this song held the #1 spot on the Billboard rock charts in 1985, and it told of how everyone's thoughts are. We have that thought, but the ambition is too far ahead of us. Tears for Fears made a powerful statement with this track. Glad I got their album Songs From the Big Chair,it is good!
This song was Tears for Fears' first Top 40 in America. The song went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the late spring of 1985. The Michael Jackson song, The Way You Make Me Feel, came out two years later. The baseline is similar but different.
I was born a year after this was released yet it holds so much nostalgia for me. My youngest aunt was 14 at the time and I was surrounded by music since day one. It’s an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. It’s really a crime that Stranger Things hasn’t used this yet
I was literally in the hospital in labor with my third son when this video came on saying, " welcome to your life, there's no turning back". June 29. 1985, Oddly on the same date my mother passed away in 1968. Sadly he passed away 3 1/2 years ago one day (date rather) before my father's death date, at the age of 32. He really was special.
I used to work for a traveling inventory company. We rode around the country on a big ol bluebird bus. Their cassette, Songs From The Big Chair, rarely left my Walkman! We traveled a lot of miles together. Good times!! Luv them... 😃

That line about your walls come tumbling down, him singing "when they do, I'll be right behind you" isn't a line of support, its a person coming to take advantage of another's misfortunes. Great song, but stuff on The Hurting (2 years earlier) is equally great. Pale Shelter, and Change, next.
What a great reaction to one of my top 10 favorite songs! In 1985 you couldn't listen to FM Rock Radio and not hear this song! Excellent reaction, and Asia you have such a dazzling smile!

Oh !!! So glad just discovered 'Tears for Fears' you guys. - I can't even get started right now, there Is a bit of Rabbit Hole to go down with These guys. ✌
There's a live version of them doing this in a small studio recently as old guys! Still sound the same!. The writer said it's original title was ' everybody want to go to war' but that sounded too harsh. Read the lyrics with that title in mind, it makes more sense.
"The Working Hour", "Woman In Chains" "Shout" are great ones. "Advice For The Young At Heart" is a smooth and easy song, so is "Goodnight Song"... All of these are Tears For Fears songs that I really like.

Head over heels, great song . SHOUT , another classic hit

GTA Vice City hooker thump soundtrack
Head Over Heels, to me was their magnum opus... a piece with some progressive sound but still new wave vibe. If unabridged the better...

Yeah but seems like nobody really wants to admit that MJ might have sampled something from another song?
Tears for Fears was first your correct 👍
