Tears For Fears are Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal, they are unique in that they both sing lead vocals. Curt sings lead on this one and although he has a sweet soul sounding voice, Orzabal has the more powerful voice, their voices blend beautifully when they sing lead together. If you delve into their career you will find they have recorded some absolute bangers. In my opinion, TFF are the best band to come out of the 80's. You should check out Shout, Mad World, Woman In Chains, Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Break It Down Again, Advice For The Young At Heart, The Tipping Point (a song about the death of Roland's wife in 2017) Pale Shelter, Rivers Of Mercy, Head Over Heels, Call Me Mellow, My Demons, the list goes on and on.
"Working Hour" is one of my favs of theirs. Other great ones are "Head Over Heals", " Sowing the Seeds of Love" (very Beatlisk), "Woman in Chains", " Shout" and a couple older classics of theirs: "Pale Shelter", "Change", " Mad World".
This is probably the band's best-known song and much loved, but I'm with Roland. Although I love the song, I don't feel it's one of their best. Shout is the other song they're known for from radio play but there are so many more that I feel are much better: The Working Hour, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains (considered by many to be the best mixed song ever), Elemental, Raoul and the Kings of Spain, Mr. Pessimist, Break It Down Again, I can go on and on. Their production and engineering rivals Steely Dan, which is an ultimate compliment. And they released their last album, The Tipping Point, last year. The title track, The Tipping Point, is a must hear. One of my very favorite bands!
Not really a Tears For Fears fan, don't own any of their albums, but I do really like their videos. When they came on MTV, back in the day, I would always watch them, and the songs and the videos always seemed to work well together. They had four or five "big" hits back then, and the vids are great, all worth a watch and listen.
I was a young adult when this was HUGELY popular and still to this day it takes me back to those days! We were young and oblivious to the worries of the world.
Tears for Fears were one of the slickest, most enjoyable pop acts from the 80's. They really knew how to make catchy tunes and put passion into them. Songs From the Big Chair is one of the best albums of the 80's.
Actually its only been 18 yrs between albums. They released Everybody Loves A Happy Ending in 2004 and their latest album The Tipping Point in 2022. Curt and Roland split after the 1989 album The Seeds Of Love. Roland still using the Tears For Fears name released Elemental in 1993 and Raoul And The Kings Of Spain in 1995 before teaming back up wirh Curt in 2000. Was lucky enough to see them live in 1996 , 2010 , 2022 and this year. They still sound great 40 yrs later.
I'd just call it a pretty standard pop song, a nice studio production. It's funny, After the awesome 1970's, I found myself really down on most of the "rock & roll" that got played on the radio in the 1980's, which I called "formula rock" played by the "hair bands." (I caught a vid recently of a Robert Plant interview where he used the same term "formula rock" to describe the 1980's Rock scene.) Every once in a while something decent would surface, but it was an exception to the rule. Ironically, for someone like me who had mostly detested "pop music" in the late 1960's & 1970's, I thought the pop genre was pretty decent in the 1980's, this song being a great example of that. It was only in the late 1980's when Metallica surfaced that I started to get excited by hard rock again. Then when Grunge surfaced, I was again happy with where rock was going...
One of my all time favorite bands! Please listen to their song called "Shout"!! It's great! Also check out their song called "Year of the Knife"! Incredible tune, very progressive!
I think of the Berlin wall falling, in that part of the lyrics. I think there are more walls to fall before we get things right. I was stationed with the US Air Force at Monte Vergine, Italy when I first heard this song in 85, while listening to AFN radio from Naples. Really enjoyed listening to it then and I still do today!🙂
Another great song and amazing commentary. You should listen to SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE; that too is a fantastic song. Thanks for all the hard work and bringing so man great songs to your show. I'm letting my friends know about your reaction channel.
There is a spectacular live version of this song out there; just Google "Tears for Fears Everybody Wants to Rule the World Sirius XM." Unbelievably good.
You said in the last video I watched that you try not to over share here, and I get it. However, I have no such compunctions, and my story behind this song is very dear to my heart. I lost one (of 5!) of my sons five years ago and I am forever tied to this song through his birthday, (which oddly enough is the same date that my mother passed away, only when I was 10 years old and he was born 17 years later. Also, he passed on the same date as my father!). Here is the birthday story, as written on his FB page a few years ago, on his birthday: "Today I want tell the story of your birth and how there was not yet any cable in the city, just the county, but every Friday night at 11:30 there was a show, "Friday Night Videos". Tears for Fears was very popular then, (1985), and Everybody Wants to Rule the World came on, With the opening lines, "Welcome to your life. there's no turning back" which was just the perfect soundtrack for your arrival! So then it turns out you really DID want to rule the world! Probably COULD have, also! I would give everything I own for just one more day with you." I do not share this looking for pity or sympathy. Just to share a beautiful memory, from a beautiful time, with a beautiful person! Thanks!
I know you're not writing for sympathy, but I am sorry for your loss of your son. The closest person I've lost in my life is my mom, and music can both make a moment or break me in a moment. Either way it goes, music always plays a role in our emotion connection to those who've gone before us. I totally understand that connection ❤️
@@ShawnSalvadori I have lost more friends and family than the average bear, and music is and always will be one of the things that soothes my pain through it all. Sorry for your loss, also.🎵♥ Love your channel.
I wouldn't call this New Wave. New Wave was a bit more of a pop off-shoot of the Punk movement. A little rougher around the edges. This is more just straight pop music, imho.
It is Cali…this song was banned by the BBC during the Gulf War, feeling it was to political….the song was about human desire for control and power and the theme center on corruption….” say you will never, never, need it, one line, why believe it?”…. 4:37
Tears for Fears is at the top of the 80s sounding bands.”Sowing the Seeds of Love” is my favorite.
STSOF is one of my favorites, also. There is a live version of Badman's Song on YT that is incredible. It rivals STSOF, in my humble opinion.
Love this band!! ♥️🎶

Yup exactly!

In my mind... when someone says "80's music", this is 1st in my head!
Woot! Tears For Fears!!!❤
Just throw on the entire Songs From the Big Chair album!!!❤ There Fun and Talented!!😊
One of the better '80s radio tunes. Was always a good driving song.

All their hits are worth a listen.
Shout is my fav from this band. I heard that song before Everybody Wants To Rule The World. But both are pure 80’s gems.
LOVE the 80's music, so much variety.
There are iconic 80's songs, for a teen like me, this was one.

Definitely a great song, their vocals are prestige
Love this song :) Brings back a lot of memories.
80's was a great pocket of music! Not the most technical, but definitely fun
I was a young adult when this was HUGELY popular and still to this day it takes me back to those days! We were young and oblivious to the worries of the world.
A great song, with a fantastic rhytm and awesome guitar riffs. 🥁🥁🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶
Classic eighties hit song. The video was shot in the Palm Springs area. The dinosaurs are in Cabazon.
Is that a Richard Simmons doll?
The band is British. Video filmed in California
One of the very best 80’s tracks
Great band and still going strong. They just released the new album a couple months ago called tipping point.
A good feel song, 💗

How about Head Over Heels next? Unlike with this song, the music video contributes to the impact of the lyrics for me.
great reaction bro...glad ya liked it....this is one of my favs by them....love the guitar riffs in this....peace
I was an undergrad about your age when this first came out. I still have the album. Tears for Fears is an iconic band from the 80's.
Try "Head over Heals" "Shout" and "Sowing the Seeds".
TFF took a 20+ year hiatus, but reformed a couple of years ago and began releasing new material.
Great new album.

great song. good enough to make me buy the album.
Me too, and it had 2 other great hits on it. Extra bang for the buck.
Love Tears for Fears. My favorite is Woman in chains. So powerful!
That too.

They had many good ones, & I enjoyed watching your reaction. I bought the album years ago.
This song is such a VIBE! Love this band! ❤❤❤❤

Love the video, brings back great memories,we did so many road trips around that area in those days!
The video is great, but should really listen without the distraction of the video to get the full impact of this work of art.
Great point. For me the video actually detracts from the song.
Exactly, some videos seem totally disconnected the the lyrics and as you mentioned are a distraction.
Correct. Listen to the song first, without the video.
I agree. I think that's a good idea for most 80's songs (the videos often didn't do justice to the songs...with some exceptions of course).

I know this song from 'Skibidi Toilet.
This song is played during EVERY PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN!
Please could you react to Spandau Ballet Through the barricades ( 1986) 🙏🏻❤ one the most beautiful song
