Yo don’t miss the jam at 8:00
What if I did miss it?
@@Jona_The_Than_D you will have to answer your actions
I will not miss 8:00
Fun stuff Tyler. You better be calling that special friend Daddy from now on lol
Kind of a tune across the ages. Modern techno meets a tone from the past, cool.
It's gorgeous.
Yes it is
it's incredible
meh.
@@christopher-miles shame
You are
The answer is.. YES! My favorite amp ever made.. ✌🏻✌🏻
Bro same
This man is the master of vintage gear
I love the Super, but your Dual Showman wins the clean game!
Mine too
Haha as soon as I saw the super reverb I thought of you
My Grandfather purchased a 1965 Fender Princeton Reverb back when it was new. Still has it today and it sounds amazing
No doubt it does.
That's lucky
"Lenny" has always been my go to riff when I'm testing the clean tone on an amp. It's the perfect song for vibrato, chord shapes, and clarity without having to have another instrument. As much as I love it though, it's no secret, SRV never really found the actual tone he was looking for. The majority of it was in his hands.
I love that song. Probably my fav SRV song . Loved the live version too!!
Go listen to the live at el mocambo version for what i think is the best tone he did for lenny
This one hits me in the feels. I was gifted a 1973 Fender Super Reverb after my grandpa's death. I recently had it upgraded with new tubes and the Blackface Mod. It's like the amp was awoken from the dead.
Wow, I was conceived just about the time this amp was built… And we’re still both in pretty good shape
Gold comment. Maybe Tyler can do a shoot out vid between you and the amp!
I was crapping in my pants and sleeping in a crib when that amp was made..does that count????
@@steveeckert8396 I'm sure it does to the guy with perfect pitch and a strange ASMR fetish
My grandpa gave me a 67 twin reverb for my high school graduation in 2015.
Probably the coolest gift you're ever going to get
@@bread5617 the gift was an amp, 2 electric guitar stands, a mic, and a fender strat american professional. He wanted me to go start a band. I didn't. My dad put in 1500 for it. No clue how much my grandpa spent.
@@kyleterrell6842 that makes me sick
@@GorbyP i am extremely lucky to have had a grandpa that played his whole life. That gave me 3 acoustic guitars and 2 electrics that could last me my entire life. He passed a few years ago, and I've started playing daily so I don't waste what he gave me. I never could have afforded 2 of the acoustics. But they sound amazing and I love playing them.
@@kyleterrell6842 great! I'm happy to hear you are using them
If you could have one piece of vintage guitar gear, what would it be?
Your mum
I’d have to say probably a vintage Fender amp from the ‘60s. One of my favorite tones
ferrari red 1990 jackson soloist, it’s not really vintage. but i want it.
My ‘65 Princeton with a 12”
A gibson les paul from the 50s
“how it sounds with different guitars”
proceeds to play 3 strat style guitars
And only clean tones
He shoulda did an SG w/ p90s too.
@@sabbathwarship6610 definitely
I feel these S guitars sound remarkably different, demonstrating his point the amp is so transparent.
I have never heard a PRS SS sound so bright and that’s because it really is a bright guitar, that instrument has a lot of tonal range with the controls but more so on such a great amp.
@@j_freed i just feel like it would've been more helpful if the guitar variety would have been more... diverse. :)
I picked up a '73 super reverb a couple months ago. Completely blew me away. I play it every day and I'm sure my neighbors love it as much as I do
I have a 68 Super which has been my number 1 amp 15 years. It's never let me down.
Sounds absolutely amazing, that reverb is just so lush
My favorite amp
I have one gifted by my father in Law love the sound great playing as always Tyler continue to expand your techniques and inspire the future of guitarist on the way.
I often leave my guitars siting on the sideline until you up load a new video and I feel compelled to chase the perfect sound. Thank you
Back before 1970 I went up with friends to Niagara Falls to visit/jam with a little band called the Pinkerton Colors. The lead player had one of those amps with a nice distorted overdrive sound. When asked about the tone he said he poked holes through the speakers with a drum stick. That was kind of a thing we did back in those days looking for the holy grail of distortion. He also had a little in-line booster unit that plugged directly into the face of the amp and it had a 1/4" female jack for the guitar cable. I can't remember the name of the device and Google has no idea what I'm talking about. Anyway, really sweet amplifier. Yeah, I'm over 70 and recently one of your new students. Music is Win!
Congrats man! Those are incredible amplifiers and yours looks very clean! I've got a 65 Super and a silverface 73 as well. Love them both. I've got a 66 Vibrolux too, also a tone machine! You can honestly plug a Strat straight into it with no pedals whatsover and you've got instant Wind Cries just dripping out. Can't help but love the old Fender's. They were making magic in Fullerton in those glory days. Cheers P[>
I recently refurbished a 1964 Princeton. Absolutely. Magnificent.
Hey Win…I really enjoy your channel and your guitar playing ability. I’m an old-timer (74 years old) and I used to play in a rock band back-in-the-day. My reason for writing is to suggest that your Super Reverb (I had one) may be pre-CBS because there is no Fender logo on the grill cover. That would make it a 1964, or possibly an early 1965 while the transfer of ownership from Leo Fender to CBS was taking place. BTW, I’m a new subscriber. Keep the great videos coming!
The 100w Fender Twin, also known as the "Evil Twin," is another tone beast.
But can you play smoke on the water with that tone
0~~~~~ 3~~~~~ 5~~~~~
It would actually sound pretty good
The heaviest riffs have the least drive, fuzz, and distortion on them.
“Listen to how it sounds with all different kinds of guitars”
*proceeds to demonstrate using primarily Strats/Strat copies*
Are there other guitars?
@@nickbouvy6524 nah, the "other" guitar is actually bass
I guess you missed the part where he plays the Les Paul and 335?…
@@austingreen3198 And the PRS [LP style] at the end. Gorgeous tones.
I think this amp specifically shaped my ears growing up in the 70’s. This amp was on so many classic recordings, the scoop, the glass and I had a specific eq curve that I was always trying to recreate whether I was in my car, or on my home stereo. Sounds brilliant!
when i bought mine a earlier this year i started hearing it everywhere on recordings...i could just tell it had the specific high end and compression bloom...then i bought a 66 twin reverb a few months later and that is also equally awesome in a different way...playing both at once is pretty mind boggling haha
@@Halliday7895 Wet/Dry?
You must have an auditorium to play in? I can only imagine. I’m trying to justify a 67’ Super Reverb in 1100 square foot house.
I usually play my 65’ Reverberocket -loud 18-23 watts(diode rectified)
Nice cleans up to 6-7 on volume and then pushes louder and raunchy. Not scooped at all-very mid focus with a lot of eq on upper/lower end frequencies -just can’t scoop hence the interest. Being rural, I just don’t get the chance to try many circuits out and wattage…wattage is a bit useless. I bought a Carr Mercury (new version)and you couldn’t crack it open without blowing you eyeballs back and the power scale left you wanting more. I’ve just bought whatever can get shipped so don’t really know how loud 40 watts is and if it is possible to get the amp purring without breaking eardrums or attenuation. Don’t want to sacrifice tone for volume so no to attenuation Sounds like you must have a big rehearsal space but can you coax out useable tones at “reasonable level?”
Subjective to age, genre and how much 80’s metal you injested in a Mazda B2000 in the 1980’s. Not old but showing some years we will say.
Am I reaching to high?
Wow...that amp is from the month and year of my birth,,,gives me chills. Love your channel and your playing young man !
I still have my original Echoplex that I bought 50 years ago. Still works.
Love the SUPER!!! I dig it. I played a new Tone Master Super Reverb the other day, and it was kind of amazing. I was shocked how good it sounded.
Shout out from South Africa! Yet again another another sick video
That’s awesome 🤟🎸 I have a Fender Princeton Chorus amp and love it!
Literally was just thinking I hadn’t played my VM Surf strat in a while right before I saw this!
The guitar has a lot to do with it too but I tend to agree that amps and speakers matter more once you’ve got a decent bass/guitar and setup.
Closest thing to a holy relic for guitarists.
Great videos man! Keep the great work! 👍👍 Btw, I love guitars, but I also love watches, I've noticed you wear different watches in your videos, nice touch. 👌
Grew up playing on one of these at my guitar teacher's shop during lessons. the tone is the best.
That sounds amazing. Congrats.
Nice review. These amps are fabulous. I’ve owned dozens of amps through the years but my 1966 Fender Super Reverb is the BEST sounding clean amp I’ve ever heard or had the privilege to play.
If you push it a bit it’s glorious and takes pedals so well. I’m lucky to own one and I will never sell it .
@@maspesasmasperras5554 no !
Best video you ever made Tyler!
Man would I love to be in a band with you your playing is so good and you seem like a great bandmate
Uh, yeah! I can see why you like that amp . Me, I'm still at the note stage. I'll get to the sound repertoire, later. Thanks for bringing out qualities of a superb amp.
I got goosebumps from the Lenny intro. So friggin' clean and pristine!
Just got the subscription to ur website and I can really see it helping me learn thank u
Beautiful amp and sounds great too.
Love your Blueberry ES335. Among many others, lol. Great vid.
My first amp was a Super Reverb. Glad I was really young - SO heavy! It was a blackface one, wish I had it now, def should not have traded it for the Marshall - should have just bought the Marshall!
I always played a Les Paul through it, very loud, so I always got a nice crunch tone! Wouldn’t go back to it though!
Amazing amp! Great playing as usual! Me and my crew have a 66 super as well! It's amazing Derek trucks actually borrow this specific one! Jam on man. Nothing like a real black face.
The amp sounds great but I like the 'oomph' that a Super has when you step on the gas a little harder, say between 5 and 7. You find out more of what the speakers bring to the rock and roll party.
I have a 66 Pro Reverb and it's my favourite amp I've ever owned without a doubt.
Oh YES..... it's "That Thang"! Why did I ever sell my old Super Reverb? Now I'm on a Rivera 4 X 10 Quiana (mine is one of the originals), and a "Prototype" of the original Rivera Suprema 1 X 12 with the closed back speaker cab under the "raised" amp chassis in the combo (with the face plate from the "Fifty-five Twelve") #6 of 10, signed by Paul 10/98.... these are pretty Sweet too.
I have a '65 and a '65 Reissue Super Reverb. Both great amps!
Anthony from Glasgow here. I've been playin guitar all over the place for fifty-five of me sixty-two yrs. Of a truth I think yer one of the finest guitar players I've ever seen. Haste ye back laddie. 🍀🎸🍀 Addendum: That would be a late seventies Fender Pro Reverb !
This makes me miss my amp. Mesa Mark V, died on me a few weeks ago, and I'm too broke to get it fixed. Had a very similar clean sound to this, reverb and all.
This has been on my want list since I first picked up a guitar. Local shop at that time had one and it was Sooo nice.
Incidentally, that amp was “born” within weeks of me.
Sounds lovely❤
Beautiful tone!
I have a newer Twin Reverb and that sounds great as well
Damn..it sounds gorgeous at any guitar
new nice way for videos, feel fresh air
my dream amp right there!!
Baby! So nice to see/hear baby.
Very cool shot at the beginning
Big fan of the mid-60s Fender black faced amps. I have a vintage ‘65 Champ that still sounds awesome.
great amp man, i love my 68 drip edge. congrats
That Outro jam sounded awesome!
Have you ever played through a ‘93 Fender Super? I’d love to see a video about this gem. Would also love to see you do an A/B comparison of your “new” ‘66 Super Reverb vs a ‘93 Super (which is based on the ‘59 Bassman circuit). Sláinte!
You hit the motherlode! Best vintage blues amp period....
That tone is god tier
Tyler, you gotta whip out the danelectro more often! Sounds so good
It’s one of my favorites for sure
Solid content, thxs!
I have a 67! Awesome amp! Use it all the time!
My buddy has one that was gifted to him by his uncle. He just got done working on it...lucky
Amazing tone :o
Tyler,
I have a suggestion for you for a video. Could you do a test/performance review of neon guitar strings?
I wonder...how inexpensively can a scalloped fret be found? I've never played one, but would want lower cost option before dropping coin to find out it wasn't ideal for me.
Amazing amp... should try to build one
Such a great amp!!! Only grip is it's wicked loud :)
100 % Awesome!!! Thx Man.
Who's the special friend? I did't get it. I need a friend like that.
paul
Who’s Paul
O:
I was thinking Steve
Who’s Steve
Gosh this guy is so frickin talented
Man how are you? I like that you appreciate Danelectro guitars , people tend to think they’re not good because of the price but I have seen lots of great ones like Jimmy page, Paul McCartney, Brian May , and a lot of others With Danelectro. Would you tell me what model is this one on your video? Thank you
Supers are incredible amps, they even handle a 7-string with ease. (I find it has mostly to do with the 4 x 10 speakers.) The only thing that I hate about them is how much they weigh.
Beauty!! 🤘🏻
My dad loves fender amps. He’s got a blackface bassman and a dual showman, a dick boyden modded silverface twin, a Princeton 2(Paul rivera design), and a John landgraff built silverface super reverb.
Ok
Paul’s definitely got the good stuff🤘
I already know that shot of the paper falling in the beginning took you like 15 tries
That's awesome I have a 66 Fender vibrolux reverb amp. Nothing compares to those black face fender amps lol
My favorite Fender amp!
Tyler, Johnny Ramones original amp and his main guitar is going on auction you need to see if you can get a way to play it like you done with the others
Right in that sweet spot.
Love the tone. No way!
Super not convinced that the hollow body EQ adjustments you made were audible :)
Tyler: this thing is so versatile and can take just about any guitar
Proceeds to play mostly S style guitars including 2 different silver skies
I guess you missed the part where he played the Les Paul and the 335 through it?…
Very clutch of that special friend
that amp + the centaur. DAMN
What pedals where you running into that super? MAN I can listen to this amp all day!
that is a sick as beautiful tone machine. sounds great with od too. what drive pedal did you use on outro track with the prs?
oh, the centaur.
Tyler you gotta try a kiesel delos. Best strat style imo
What attenuators do you use? I’ve found it hard to find a good attenuators for 2ohms…
I have a gold THD Hot Plate, but it won’t last me forever…
I play through an original ‘65 Super…
Outro plucky riff was sweet ✌️
Have you ever played a Gretsch 6120 through one of these? Put some heavy vibrato on it and time travel to a simpler time.
That's my favorite amp. I had a 66 practice amp, I stoopidly sold to a friend and was forever regretful.
As the owner (15+ years) of a '64 super reverb, I concur on all points!
Oh good, another video where Tyler rubs our noses in the "I'm friends with Paul Reed Smith and you're not." ;)
Seriously though, lovely amp.
Paul has no friends….
He only gets product representation. 😆 He’s a sales machine.
maybe try to find some of the oldest/most vintage gear on sale?
