Also most dishwasher filters aren't that clean or particularly easy to clean so it's like you steamed your salmon with dirty dishwater. A lot of tik tok "recipes" are more in the vein of disgusting clickbait like the goal is to anger and disgust the person watching to get them to interact rather than actually produce anything edible.

@@gnomersy1087 To be fair to TikTok, the Dishwasher Salmon is almost as old as dishwashers, Vincent Price was even debuting it on the Tonight Show in 1975 and it's something my grandma used to do back in the 60s according to my mom.

I don't recall her conclusively proving that the time wasn't high enough though. I recall (though I could be wrong) that the temperature hits temperatures that will kill all bacteria if held long enough and it was theoretically possible that her salmon actually hit those temperatures for long enough to be safe.

It´s so dumb, I can´t imagine how this idea ever occured to anybody!
Not only would you use wheat flour for fresh pasta with eggs, as opposed to semolina (without eggs) for spaghetti.
      It´s also more expensive.
And I imagine sth as hard as uncooked spaghetti will grind down the knives of your blender very quickly.

Me, too. And the “pasta” she made was way too thick, it’s going to be doughy and gross. And the whole idea is insane - if you want fresh pasta start with flour or semolina, all you’re doing is adding unnecessary time and expense to what should be a (relatively) quick and simple process.

    • @Sevicify
      @Sevicify 2 місяці тому +3

I was surprised he didn't call this out in the video, it's a serious health concern cooking food in bags without ensuring they're suitable for the given job. In the case of this particular video the chip package used definitely is not suitable for any kind of cooking.

    • @kmfdmman
      @kmfdmman 2 місяці тому +2

The bag is a food storage bag, its already food safe on the interior. It shouldn’t pass off anything when heated either.

    • @Sevicify
      @Sevicify 2 місяці тому +9

@@kmfdmman It's a chip package designed to be safe at normal room temperatures, it is not designed to be safely heated especially at or past water boiling point temperature. Looking up chip packaging they use a very thin multi-layer design commonly consisting of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP), Low-density Polyethylene (LDPE) and thermoplastic resin. Of particular interest is the LDPE which is known to leach chemicals into food and is considered stable up to 85C and has a melting point in the low 100s, definitely not something you really want to be cooking food with.

@@Sevicify I really hate this method but just wanted to say - the proteins in egg denature at far lower temperatures than 85°C. It does depend on the egg but usually around 63°C (that's what I go for when poaching). Of course - just chucking it into boiling water could be extremely hazardous.

Where to start with the pasta lady. First of all she has her priorities backwards. She spent all that time with the pasta just to use store bought sauce. Second, no matter how much you grind up the pasta, it is still dried pasta. Semolina will absorb water, but dried pasta needs to be boiled. The whole thing is pointless. Great video.

I've made salmon in the microwave before. Takes about 7 minutes. All you do is wrap it in some good plastic wrap that's sticky on one side, sealing it in the process. It actually comes out fully cooked and doesn't even look like you microwaved it. Was taught this method by my brother, but I don't think many people would try this because of the stigma of microwaves. 1) people think it's ineffective at cooking and 2) people think it's hazardous to food. But all you need is the right method

    • @migueltucabron

Cooking something in the dishwater is an old student trick to save money. You would use the dish washer both for washing the dishes while also making food at the same time. That way you're using the water and energy that would get used anyways.
Obviously this TikTok showcase with an otherwise entirely empty dishwater is stupid.

I dry aged steak in the clothes dryer of course, then used the washing machine to sous vide. finally, the iron was the perfect way to get that crust I love on a great steak. I diced my veg by attaching each item to a firework and launching it at neighbours chicken wire fence, but had to ask for my diced carrot to be returned twice. Fortunately I live in a place large enough to swing a cat, so she because a salad spinner and loved every moment. 🙂(OMG your face was priceless as you saw how crazy these things are).

You see, I've seen that "risotto" recipe before (with no parmesan thank god). Where I live we call it continental rice or french onion rice. From what i can tell, the butter ends up coating the rice, so it takes longer to absorb the liquid and cook but also retains its moisture when reheated, so it's useful for potlucks. Which means somebody took a perfectly okay casserole dish and said "I'm going to make it worse and insult a country all at once!"

The waffle-calzone seems kind of legit. I don't own a waffle maker because I keep a pretty lean kitchen (kitchen-aid being a permanent 5000kg fixture of my counter)
The specific example shown looks p good for making a quick lunch for multiple folks, is still using legit ingredients and the crust doesn't look hideous (personally speaking, mileage may vary) Either way, give me some better sauce over that glopular paste she served it with, better filling and maybe some chemically induced munchies and I ain't gonna complain about it. So much of the soul of cooking is iteration, derivation and deviation.
With that being said. It's a toss up between a living creature dying only be ruined & desecrated in a nasty dishwasher. OR the absolutely dryest and overcooked risotto on planet earth.

    Pepper
    Flour
    Butter
    Cappers ( if desired)
    Lemon juice
    Parsley
Take the fish pat it dry , put salt , pepper to taste and little tiny bit of flour , cook in butter ( shouldn't need more then a few minutes on each side) take the fish out of the pan . In the butter the fish was cooked in put lemon juice and parsley ( and cappers) then put it on top of the fish .
Very easy shouldn't take more then 10 minutes from start to finish and very delicious.

The obvious problem with the pizza waffles to me is that a waffle lacks the space for any meaningful sized pocket of filling. There is a device that would give a more pleasing result and is readily available, which is one of those sandwich toasters that crimp the edges. But a waffle iron is surely really very suboptimal for the job.
The garlic gadget seems superfluous but I can kind of imagine it could be useful to someone with arthritis or something.

@@JoannaHammond You might be right and even having suggested it I do find myself second guessing if you could get a good result with unbaked dough in the sandwich toaster either. There is probably a good reason why you don't commonly see people trying. If the dough is thin enough though, I'm not certain how much of a problem expansion would be. You can get some ultra thin pizza bases that do not really rise much during baking, other than around the crust. Maybe there is a chance it would be more crispy than hard? I'm not sure.
I do bake bread semi-regularly but I cannot say as I feel especially compelled to test this.

I have a stuffed waffle maker that flips over to cook both side evenly. You can stuff things in it, but you're right, the stuffing can't be too much, and even stuffed it makes for something that's best to dip in a sauce or top with something. However, it actually does make for a good pizza base when stuffed with typical pizza fillings and when the "dough" has finely chopped pepperoni inside it.

Multiple people have tried it (using measurements of the internal temperature of the fish over time) and it is possible to do it safely. A diswasher reaches hot enough for long enough, that it barely brings a *thin* piece of salmon up to sufficient bacterial reduction according to food service guidelines to be considered pasteurized. But the effort and equipment required to ensure that you're actually doing it safely in *your* dishwasher far outweighs any possible use of this "trick". It is far less effort to just cook it normally.

Burgers were cooked off before the rush and stored in buckets of water. When they were thrown on the hot plate they steamed rather than drying out giving a really nice moist texture. The clientele was basically drunk, fresh out of pubs or clubs so salt, sauce and the smell of fried onions were the only relevant flavours.
It actually worked as long as you didn’t think hard about it.

    From best to worst:
    - Avocado tray: yes, pretty much the only one with some sense.
    - Bottle as a yolk separator: this one is somewhat useful like you said, but I feel like the bottle won't retain its shape when squeezing it, so not very good. There are silicon gadgets that do this better (and still not as good as using the fingers or the shells while cracking it).
    - Waffle pizza: OK, so... This intrigues me and lowkey would like to try. Sue me, Italia. (La paella ya no, gracias)
    - Potato chips... omelette?: I mean, you can make it. It's just that making it into the bag is like adding an extra layer of difficulty for no reason really.
    - Risotto: same as above. You can make it, it will kinda work, but it's just a long-ass way to do a simple task for the sake of it.
    - "Fresh" pasta: no.
    - Dishwasher salmon: not just unnecessary and ecologically irresponsible, it's dangerous.
    - Reheating fast food in toaster: stupid, dumb, useless. Obviously made for clout and views (well, like most of these), but with the added risk of someone not very bright or a kid trying to replicate it and breaking the toaster or potentially causing a fire.
I would've put the pasta as the worst, but at least there is no danger to it (unless if you're standing next to an Italian).

As for the dishwasher, it's used in France, it's a tip from a great chef for making foie gras or even salmon.
I don't know about the USA, but in France dishwashers have a much more precise temperature cycle than an oven, and it's widely used by chef Norbert Tarayre.
However, the salmon must not be in contact with water, so simple aluminum foil is not suitable, you need an airtight bag.
Cooking in the dishwasher is a very well-known method in France.

The bags of scrambled eggs is a lot of easier to do if you’re catering for a large group and you’re doing it by yourself or with a limited staff.
I use to do a very large buff breakfast catering for the local chamber of commerce every week. I could load up a 5 gallon stock pot of water with as many bags of the eggs I needed and bring it to a boil, reduce the heat to low with a lid on and let it take care of itself while I worked on other projects.
The garlic gadget is good for older people or disabled people. Most gadgets are really being marketed to older people or people with disabilities. There are a lot of people with arthritis that just can’t safely hold a knife.
