Hello Dr Dan, my question might be a bit out of topic but I would like to ask your opinion about having oats for breakfast. It is carbs mainly, but at the same time, it has a lot of benefits. So I am a bit confused. Your opinion as a professional would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
By following low carb and intermittent fasting, I've got a much better pattern of sleeping and eating and my head is clear. The fog has gone. I don't get hungry to the point where I shake and can't concentrate anymore. Intermittent fasting and low carb, great. Dr Dan, fantastic.
@@paulandriessen489 There is many health benefits mentioned in the video. Also there is ways to prevent muscle loss etc when intermittent fastening, just one Google search away. I also have two friends who has done this for some time, and they have only gotten stronger and bigger.
Hey! Been struggling for ages with weight gain and inflammation, just done two days 16/8 and feel fantastic, swelling going down, not stopped going to the toilet and I've dropped 6kg despite guzzling down 3L of water each day. 3 months until I become a dad, so looking forward to being lighter and healthier when he arrives :) thank you so much.
I recently discovered intermittent fasting through various YT videos. The health benefits are astounding. I started about 2 weeks ago, doing 16:8. I’m a nighttime snacker and love my coffee with creamer in the morning. I thought it would be a hard adjustment but it feels so natural! Never thought I’d enjoy black coffee but I do. I was never big on breakfast so skipping this meal was easy. I delay lunch until 12:30 or 1 and have dinner when my husband gets home from work around 6:30. I used to watch tv and snack the rest of the night after my kids go to bed but I made the decision to go to bed early and read instead with a plain cup of tea. This has made all the difference. I’m already down 5 lbs but more than that, I feel incredible. No more brain fog, less fatigue, better quality sleep, more productivity and so much more. Thanks to informative videos like yours, I feel like I can make this a sustainable life change. So many benefits beyond weight loss.
I'm new to IF, lots to learn, but have become convinced it's important in health maintenance and disease prevention! I'm over 70, doing a 20:4 fast/feed cycle with no problems at all! Thank you Dr.Maggs!
IF is the master to maintain a good health. According to my experience, 90% of diseases come from processed and excessive food consumption. We need to eat the way our ancestors were eating. Indeed, humans today eat way more than they need and this brings the whole disaster. Two and half years ago, I got diabetes and high blood sugar. My weight was 202 lbs, Hba1c was 5.8 and blood pressure was 162/39. Had a hard time how to cure this. Hopeless from my doctor and I started using UA-cam. I finally cracked the secret of treatment to all those issues. Here is what I did. 1- I removed all packaged food and started eating Whole Foods including vegetables and fresh fruits. 2- I removed dinner from my diet and eat breakfast and lunch only. I consume nuts as snacks if I need. 3- Eliminated table sugar and replaced it with stevia. 4 -And I added 3-4 miles walking 4-5 days a week. Here is what I achieved from the above changes. My blood pressure is 113/72 and my Hba1c is 5.2 now. I lost 52 lbs in the first 8 months and maintained my 150 lbs weight for almost two years. Am very happy in this lifestyle and will maintain it .
Thanks for being here for all of us. You were extolling the benefits of fasting. I was concerned about my blood sugar. I recently lost my family physician and I am concerned for my health because diabetes is in my family. I started IF and have discovered another benefit (which I don't think I am unique in this,) but it is a bonus for me... what is this bonus you ask? I had a constant voice calling for me to eat. By fasting, the voice is no longer calling to me. I also noticed I do sleep better. I wish I had found this earlier in my life. I fast for 22 hours and eat within a 2 hour window. This works well with my work schedule I get home at 7 pm in the evening. I can't thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊
66 year young, started Keto about 5 months ago, reached Ketosis after 6 weeks, love it! Still learning lots, and this video was a great reinforcer! Thank you for it! Dr. Dan is the best!
Dang I feel like I'll never get in ketosis. I'm about finished with a 72 hour water fast. And I don't feel like its done anything for me..I barely lost a pound even of water. .I just don't understand .I've never felt good fasting either. .😐🥑
@Laura Little very strange. Fasting is using up your glycogen stores which hold a few pounds of water. Three days of using 1500kcal from fat would also mean another pound of fat gone.
@@wocket42 I'm about to 72 hours and very strange I finally feel better .I'm going for autophagy benefits so one more day might be nice. But then again maybe I'll eat something. I don't wanna run into refeeding syndrome " what ever that is .I'm scared of .
Refeeding is more of an issue for people doing long fasts, the 10 day plus type of fasting. Just eat foods that won't spike your blood sugar (sugar, refined grains, etc) and you should be just fine.
My last meal is usually 1-1:30 pm. I can easily do that because I (age 67) am retired. That schedule of fasting is circadian-friendly, which helps me with sleep, energy, and immunity.
Very informative! I've been fasting for about five months now. I eat from noon until 8pm. I feel great and have lost about 20 pounds. This is a diet that has turned into a lifestyle for me.
I fast for 16 eat for 8 but I eat low carb and only 2 meals a day after a month the meals got smaller as I was no longer hungry or needed those extra carbs or that apple juice I didn’t even want sugar or rice I’ve lost 80 pounds .
I was having trouble sleeping. So I now eat my last meal at 15.00 and sleep well all night . I have breakfast at 6AM . I have always been active and never been over weight .
I've fasted one day a week for the past 7 years, ever since reading Stop the Clock by P.D. Mangan. It's a 36-40 hour fast once a week, and the rest of the week I stick to a 10-hr eating window. Mangan basically said everything that you do. The main thing that jumped out at me was the benefits of autophagy. I'm 63 and totally healthy with no prescriptions. Beyond the health benefits, I look forward to my weekly fast as a break from the kitchen. You don't realize how much time is spent in shopping, preparation, eating and cleaning up until you don't have to do it one day a week!
Over the past 10 months, I’ve lost 35 lbs by adopting a keto/carnivore diet, cutting out sugar and reducing carbs. I began with a 12-hour intermittent fasting routine for 3 months, followed by 4 months of OMAD (One Meal a Day), and I’ve maintained this approach. Additionally, I engage in a 15-minute intensive exercise routine.
I suffered a heart attack and had a single bypass surgery. That was a couple of years ago. I really didn't alter my diet very much and and my latest blood work diagnosis was asymptomatic type 2 diabetes. Weeks ago I completely eliminated carbs, sugar, bread, grains etc etc. Right now I have basically switched to a carnivore diet along with healthy fats, avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil & good quality butter & lots of water. I have not had any sugary sodas for years and mostly drink unsweetened iced tea. I do the apple cider vinegar in 4 OZ of water before eating protein with high healthy fat content. Taking vitamins D3 "C" Zinc Selenium etc along with trace minerals etc. No breakfast. I usually eat at 5:00PM and I do not feel hungry until the following day at around the same time. I guess you could call that daily intermittent fasting. I actually feel great. I am losing weight - initially probably water weight but now my "love handles" have gone away and I am slowly losing belly fat. I was 20+ LBS overweight for years. I was on Lipitor 80mg but, switched to Crestor 20mg. I am also taking low doses of Metoprolol and Lorsartan (sp?) & even though "carnivore" is higher in sodium and potassium - my blood pressure is quite low to low normal with or without those 2 medications. I take a BP reading every day. I do have an insomnia problem so "quality sleep" usually sucks. I generally feel great these days save for left knee pain. Nobody ever talks about a carnivore type diet for folks who have had a bypass surgery. My cardiologist DID OK a keto low carb diet for me during a checkup after my surgery. But, at that time I knew nothing about carnivore. I would like to stay on zero carbs and zero sugar until I lose 20 or 25 LBS and then try low carb keto forever if necessary. These days I think I could easily live on no added sugar forever. I just don't want it anymore. I might go for cake and ice cream on my birthday? Maybe. I also have no more heartburn or acid reflux these days on carnivore. I was taking Prilosec & Nexium for years. No more! I have an occasional Tums which is just Calcium anyway so...no big deal on that. So...what about keto for folks who have had bypass surgery? And is carnivore short term for a month or two harmful to the heart? I hope not & at this point I will either die or feel better than I've ever felt for years....which I already DO! BTW: My years long constant nagging lower back pain has already pretty much disappeared. It was so bad that at one past point I could not even lift the toilet seat or put a pizza in the lower oven. My lower body could not support my upper body. I had to go to emergency/hospital. I no longer eat pizza BTW. So...how about talking about at least a temporary carnivore diet - no sugar - no carbs for people who have had a bypass surgery. In my case a widow maker that was caught just in time with only a minor decrease in my ejection infraction. I wish my knee felt as great as my heart but, I think losing 20+ pounds will help take the stress off of it and hopefully less inflammation will make the pain go away. My last blood results showed my A1c as being elevated to Type 2 Diabetes which is WHY I started with the carnivore routine. I refuse to go the insulin route to eternally deteriorating slow death. Any info greatly appreciated.
Thank you for this clear, concise explanation of the benefits of fasting. I have been doing intermittent fasting for over 2 years. I am 70 and feeling very healthy. No aches or pains and my inflammation levels are very low. I follow a low carb diet. I do eat breakfast and lunch which I like to finish by 2:00 pm. I am driven partly by my APOE 4 gene and that my father had Alzheimer’s.
SInce January I've been fasting with low carb. Benefits: loss of athlete's foot, and fungal toe nail; loss of skin tags round my neck; no more fatty liver; no longer pre-diabetic; A1c down; HDL up; Triglycerides down; no more nocturnal wind can sleep at night; breathing and sinuses better; Heart pain almost completely gone (I have CAD); and weight has dropped 45lbs.. Downside higher LDL and cholesterol. Fasting regime - mostly OMAD. Very hard for the forst 2 or 3 days then became the new normal. This is the only diet where I have keot the weight off for this length of time. I am now the weight I was 40 years ago.
There's a common misconception that as we get older, weight loss becomes more difficult or even impossible due to a slowing down of our metabolism. That's why I love I.F. I was gradually gaining weight as the years went by and just resigned myself to believing that this was the norm. I had success with I.F. in my 20's but wasn't sure it would work for me several decades later. I started it again 7 months ago and I have lost 25 lbs. I have 5 pounds left to reach my goal. It hasn't been easy but it has been extremely effective and the benefits you've mentioned make it all worth it. Thanks for the extra boost of motivation to keep going!
I started low carb, completely cutting out seed oils due to inflammatory effect. Both my parents had T2Diabetes, mum has severe dementia. I want to avoid all that. Fasting has helped me to control how often I eat. Cutting out sugar has been a relief, I no longer crave snacks.
Hi Dr Dan just found your brilliant channel, I've been fasting for quite a while, I do OMAD every day, a 48hr fast once a week plus a 72hr fast once a month! I think being ketosis and Autophagy are the most important things to me, I'm in hospital (Southampton General) as I type this having had a Glioblastoma removed two days ago feel a bit sore but I'm sure these extended fasts have helped slow down the tumour growth plus helping to Keep the inflammation under control. through research with channels like yours I'm now totally ZERO carbs and fully carnivore! Feel so much better on it! 👍
I live in Spain and my Spanish neighbours eat about 4-5 times a day as follows; Breakfast- optional, Mid morning lunch, 14.00 main meal, 18.00 afternoon break, 22.00 Supper. I've been on a IF low carb diet since last August, and while I was able to follow this intensely in summer, winter is more difficult living in unheated houses, overall I eat less carbs and more fat than I did pre-aug, I eat only twice a day and normally only when I'm hungry or at least after 12.00 midday and never later than 20.00, I've cut out all seed oils, and gone back to lard(manteca), when it gets warmer I'll revert back to salad rather than peas/carrots, also cost is now a serious factor with the rise in fuels/power/gas etc.
@@tonydenial1485 no mainly because of high sugar, I follow low carb lifestyle when can. At moment I am eating low carb omad. Plenty of salad as a rule... Will see what happens when season starts and I go back to waiting tables. Its hard as everyone seems to think we need bread with everything.
@@janelisarodham6546 I know, I'm finding it really hard to maintain as whenever I'm asked by my friends why I'm not drinking/having a sandwich/sweet/etc it ends up me having to give a big explanation of what I now believe, which contradicts totally everyone else's version, I still eat strawberries/berries my own oranges/lemons juiced, bananas I've cut down, but it's a work in progress. I was in Alicante last week with a mate...we were picking up our TIE's, while gassing in the car we got on the subject of working out and carbs, it started to get heated as we had conflicting views, to preserve our friendship I backed off and shut up, I know I'm slipping a bit as it's winter, and craving all the bad stuff ha ha😆, roll on summer.
@@tonydenial1485 I tell people I have problems with high carb foods and leave it at that can't be bothered explaining when they will just argue. Hey easter almost here and the crazy time starts again.
i finished a 5 day fast a few days ago, broke my fast great at first with a tub of organic blueberries and some organic grapes, i cried lol. Unfortunately it was already late when i ate but a few hours later (in the early AMs) i ate a huge burrito. this vicious cycle began of starting to eat way too much junk (all the stuff i've been craving while fasting) And i almost went to the hospital today because i believe i've overloaded my kidneys with too much junk, also have thrown up after a couple meals because i have a tendency to binge to the point of struggled breathing. I'm drinking herbal tea before bed and have to set flashy reminders on my phone not to eat most the day tomorrow so my body can process all the sh*t ive thrown at it. I highly recommend intermittent fasting before prolonged fasting, stay safe everyone.
Thanks for the video. COVID taught us how important it is to get our general health in good order. People with underlying health problems were more likely to die from COVID. 2 Years ago I was over weight (210 Lbs) and had high cholesterol for the first time in my life. IMHO is was caused by my eating poorly during COVID. Since the problem was caused by eating poorly I decided to try to fix it by eating better. I changed my life style by eating oat meal with flax seeds for breakfast have a small lunch and have a medium dinner. NO snacks and when we went out to eat I would not eat everything on my plate. The results after 2 years was I lost 30 lbs (180) and my cholesterol is good. I am now ready for doing intermittent fasting. Breakfast will be delayed just a few hours to 10 AM, lunch at about 1 PM and have dinner at 6 PM. My goal is to get my weight down to 170. I am not looking for a quick fix but rather a slow but steady change in my lifestyle.
I’ve been doing IF for over two months and I have already lost weight, feel better, and I love knowing the benefits for long-term health. Watching videos like this motivates me and reminds me of the need to continue IF for life.
Thank you Dr Dan for these very educational and informative videos of yours. You keep my mind on track. And I truly agree with everything you have mentioned. And how it affected people's mentality regarding fasting. Fasting is life for me rn! Started fasting 20 hours a day since last year. And it changed my life completely!! Never knew how beneficial it is since then and never wanna go back to my previous lifestyle anymore. Omad and keto is what I live for now.
Dr. Maggs, I tried intermittent fasting before it was called intermittent fasting. I decided to avoid eating after 7 pm. But I decided to try this only to cut down my calories. It seemed to work fairly well.
I do 16:8 and my last food intake ends at 1600. My sleep quality has not improved. I have been doing this for a month. But I have more energy and am dropping inches!
I Omad. Only one meal a day, no snacks, not at all. So I eat every 23.5 hours. I eat every day at 4 pm. And always skip Sundays. So once a week ill go 48 hours w no food. The longest I have fasted (20 years ago ) was 7 days. No food, no juice, no calories. And just recently I fasted for over 4 days (103 hours).
I eat when I get home from work around 7.30pm but I'm going to start eating on my last break which is around 5.30pm. I fast for around 22 hours a day after 15hrs I feel on top of the world. One day I'm going to fast for 48hrs
I’ve been doing Keto and IF for almost 2 years and love it, it’s a lifestyle now rather than a diet I will never go back to normal eating or carbs and sugar. I also take vitamin d3/k2, magnesium, potassium, zinc and quercetin, garlic and turmeric plus a few others and have never felt healthier. I’m now 47 years old, havent been ill for 2 years and nobody can believe I’m only 3 years away from my 50yh birthday as I look younger than my years and have pretty low body fat. Look after your own health because doctors will just push pills! Oh always had pretty high blood pressure, not anymore it’s totally normal since starting Keto and IF.
The latest meal I have is 11 pm but on average I eat at 9 pm since my work ends at 10:30. I have lost 4kgs of weight from fasting for a month. I barely made any effort when fasting. First I started 12/12 then 16/8. I have Sunday as my cheat day and I do a 24 hour fast on Fridays. I only did this at the third week to trigger Autophagy. The first week was the worst but the rest felt like a breeze. I love it since I could save more money and be healthier at the same time. Thanks for the video!
I eat and drink once every 23 hours most days these days 👊 A dear friend of mine died recently of Alzheimer's, I noticed that he was always snacking on biscuits 😢
I've combined IF with low carb & lost 8 kilos in 4 months. Dr. Dan's videos and clear, precise explanations are what helps keep me on track. I used to binge of fruit, thinking that if it's good, more must be better. I've got much better control over my eating now.
I have incorporated Intermittent fasting with a keto diet, 4 weeks on keto first the added the fasting. It happened all by itself and I prefer it with my work schedule. I have tried it before in non keto eating and I like it either way. I love hearing the cellular effects this eating style has on the body/cells. It is encouraging and makes it easy for me to stay on it.
Hi I enjoy following low carb fasting diet I have breakfast & lunch finishing @ 2pm. I eat during my walking working hours as I’m a housekeeper. I reach over 10,000 steps everyday I work 6days a week
Due to symptoms for a year, finally got a test in mid Oct 21 to confirm T2 diabetes with a HBA1C of 87 with a weight of 17 stone. Straight on metformin x2 per day, which I had to change to the slow release version. I did my own research on the UK diabetes sites & everyone recommended to reduce carbs (none of this was ever mentioned by my doctors). Little bit of tweaking here & there over the course of a month I finally got set into a routine with fasting for 12 to 14 hours ( can be longer on a weekend) and carbs of 40-80g per day... Higher levels usually in the week due to sandwiches for work (Hovis Nimble bread) and I have only taken x1 SR Metformin tablet per day as I wanted to see what the diet impact was for the results. I had my latest check 2 weeks ago with a HBA1C level of 49 and a weight of 15st 4lb & I know I shouldn't, but it is with a few beers some nights 🍺
About coffee I have been on keto 100% no cheating since Nov 2020 I started at 296 leveled off 235-237 I’m a big boned man I’m comfortable but my goal was 220 but I’ve been 235 for many months being able to maintain that for such a long time is so great. I do plan to start fasting just to see if I might get in the 220,s I do walk regularly and my wife dedicated herself to cooking keto for me. I have watched your videos including coffee which leads me to my question I am sold on keto I don’t cheat I’m passed that but I often get up because I’m 64 at 0600 and I must have my coffee. I use liquid Splenda 0 carbs different then powder so that’s a no brainer on that. But I love coffee mate sugar free chocolate creamer. It’s my one vise. I honestly can see my self waiting till 0800 to start tge fast then stopping eating at the proper time. But I can’t Realistically see myself waiting to 8 o’clock to drink coffee I know black coffee would be just fine you discussed that and even a little cream my question gets down to this according to the label on coffee mate sugar-free it’s less than 1 g per serving if I had to guess I probably put a gram and a half into my coffee and I drink 2 cups religiously every morning Thoughts
Hi Dr Maggs Great to have a Dr from the UK! I have been doing keto/low carb for 3 months now. I'm 65, 5 foot tall female. I was 11 stones and now I am down to 9! I'm over the moon! I fluctuate between 8.12 to 9 stones because occasionally I have a glass of wine or a cappuccino, but I'm OK with that. Ideally I would like to be 8.5 stones, and I know if I do longer IF I will reach my goal quicker. At the moment I have 2 meals a day. The last one will be between 6pm and 8pm latest depending on my shift work and then bed at around 10.30pm. Wake up around 6pm. Not hungry at all and may have something to eat around 10am/11am again depending om my morning shift work. Sometimes I managed to have nothing in the morning and have my 1st meal at 1pm and the next one still 7pm/8pm but this is tough! If I feel hungry during the day I have a few grain of salt on my tongue to replenish my salt loss and the hunger goes away! Thank you for your no nonsense approached videos!
Hey Doc! I started on Intermittent Fasting about a year back, and have benefitted considerably. I also fast for 24 hours every Thursday (been doing it for the past 28 years - religious reasons). I am 56 now, and have been able to keep diabetes at bay. My dad was diabetic from a young age, and already had it when I was born! I thought I'm sure to get it too, but probably my fasting regimen has helped! I enjoy your interesting and informative show very much; please keep the same going 😊
The absolute latest I eat is 9pm. When I do eat late, it causes digestive distress. Therefore, I try to avoid it if possible. Dr. Maggs, I really enjoy your videos. I am sending this one to a loved one who is looking into Keto/IF... just overall health improvement. Thank you! 😊 🤗
Thank you Dr Maggs totally reinforces of the why I am doing IF - hca1b down from 48 to 43 , blood pressure meds weaning down slowly , weight down a win win x keep up the good work thank you 🐬🐬
Another great video Dr Maggs. The most noticeable benefit I have had from IF is autophagy of a few small fat lobes under the skin. I usually eat OMAD about noon. That said, still have a bit of a broken sleep pattern. See you in the next video.
Very clear benefits and seems practical. Thank you. As for my own fasting habit, I've managed to fast once a week, Tuesday evenings until Wednedays at 6 PM. It might be good to discuss the psychological aspects of going without food for even this short time ~20-22 hours. In my experience of fasting for the last two years, I still, after all this time, have to reassure myself that I "get to eat" at 6PM Wednesdays. There's a fair amount of self-talk going on... one of my main challenges is what to do with the times when I'm not eating. I allow extra sleep to whittle away at my time goal and make myself busy with household chores, crossing off my to-do list, gardening, visiting others, etc. As for the other days, I'm struggling with snacking and grazing. I suppose a remedy would be to start with the 12 hour rule... no eating between 8am and 8pm.
Yep, you didnt see our ancestors eating potatoes, porridge, or bread it was mainly fats, veg (good carb) and protein. Typical Carbs arnt really an essential nutrient. People started getting problems when agriculture was invented. The food pyramid should be reinvented
Thank you for another really interesting video, you are a star. I do intermittent fasting once or twice a month. I have my last meal say Friday evening then nothing to eat until breakfast on Sunday morning, I feel better for it.
Dr. Maggs, I actually tried restricted eating. In other words, all I did was eat my breakfast, lunch and dinner without snacking. The main reason I tried this method was to improve my willpower. I didn't want to automatically eat something because it looked good. This eating restriction didn't seem to help me lose weight like the intermittent fasting did. I am not sure why. But I was trying to increase my willpower, not lose weight. I know you don't believe in willpower. Maybe it doesn't work. But this is what I was trying to increase. Well anyway, I tried intermittent fasting and time restricted eating over 30 years ago. I gained back my weight. Now I'm on a ketogenic diet and have lost 35 pounds so far. But I still have a long way to go. Thank you for your videos. I think I will agin try the intermittent fasting, about 10 to 12 hours and the time restricted eating, 3 meals a day, in addition to my diet.
When I wait up for hubby, (once or twice a week) I eat with him at midnight. (I know!? 😱😬) I almost always skip breakfast on my days off and only have a coffee. I stay busy and usually don’t eat until I absolutely can’t stand it. I loved the bit about talking about all the horrible availability of food!! 🤣🤣You so nailed it! Thank you so much!!
I have my last meal 5pm. Go sleep at 9pm. Get up at 5am. Start walking at 6:10am. I think I might know why not losing weight. Trying to mix things up. Do a fasting break things up. I have already lost 44 pounds.
I eat between 3 and 10pm. The main (carnivore) meal being at "movie time" between 7 and 10pm. I read or listen to music or an audio book (using headphones so my wife can sleep) until midnight or so...and pretty much always do leg raises and pushups and squats at various intervals (between pee breaks) until around 4am. Then I sleep like a log until 6:30 - 8ish. I love it, and I'm always perfectly well rested when I get up out of bed. (10 minutes or so of meditation before getting out of bed) O_o What do you think, Doc? Totally insane? It works for me. 🙂
Hi, great video. I have been 16/8 TRE for two years now with last meal most days at 4pm. I have not felt this good in years (I am 66). Also, my skin has improved noticeably, I have more energy and I am sleeping well. I have to say also that I am not on a keto diet, but I have limited my sugar intake a lot, plus lots of walking.
@@cherylhegarty7330 Hi. As SK says, it’s time restricted eating. Just another way of describing intermittent fasting. I use it to differentiate from intermittent longer fasts which I do from time to time.
Thanks. I just discovered your channel. Love it being sensible and scientific. A couple of questions for you: 1) How does it different for women and men when doing IF (esp in view of the menstrual cycle). 2) I am in a carni/ketovore lifestyle, I love it as my family has a tendency to become diabetic when we reach our 40s. Lately, I feel I have gained weight from being made to work at home. I haven't braved the scale, but the tightness of my clothing tells the tale. So do I need to go back to counting calories?
Great video as usual! I'd really like to know more about eating late, if it's something you'd like to comment, or expound upon. I'm a really bad over-eater, so I've found that eating right before bed not only fits with my schedule, (and some other issues I have ideas about) but keeps me from eating too much as I literally don't have the time. I'd love to know your thoughts on this, if you have the time.
It would be great to clarify that fruit sugar in ripe fruit, does not require insulin to be carried into cells since this sugar is our primary, most efficient, form of energy. Also based on the structure of our digestive system, which is 97-98% identical to that of a primate, fruit is the most perfect food for our bodies. Not being disrespectful to anyone trying Keto, just trying to properly educate so there’s less confusion 😊 Have an awesome day!
Greetings from NY. GM Dr., I am 56 y.o., pre diabetic, RN, busy life. No medical history. I have tried fasting, but every time when I try fasting, I feel a little shaky at times when I don't eat, specially my breakfast. But, when I am fasting, what I feel is that my stomach is flatter, I feel lighter, and basically I like it. Honestly, my biggest mistake, is that I feel like I have to eat my breakfast so I don't feel shaky/fainty at work. Wish i could change that. Any ideas??!! Ohh, very informative your video. Thumbs up. Thank you for reading. :) Deni
Living in Spain where if and keto is less known, at moment an eating one low cab meal a day usually around 8pm. Not sure how much I'm doing right as here it's hard to find people who understand it. So... Thanks yet again Dr!!
I work shifts it very much disrupts your circadian rhythms. However I do fast also and I do this at work and out of work . I do 12 hours fasts so eat only at 12pm and 12am and on a Sunday do a 18 hour fast to finish the week and find this works great for me.
I eat very late. Good nights it could be 8 but sometimes it can be 10 😳. Mostly it’s 8/9. But I don’t open my fast till 5ish, sometimes later. Thank you Suman
I make an effort to eat dinner relatively early, preferably @ 5pm. I don't eat anything after 6pm. I'm currently fasting for 24 hours at a time and eating 1 meal per day. I drink water throughout the day as well as have a couple cups of coffee if I feel the need for a pickup. I avoid sugar and starches like the plague. I also try to really limit any consumption of alcohol as it puts on the calories. If I do have a drink, I have it with bottled water 'on the rocks' to not add on sugar calories.
Just found your channel and enjoying your content. I've been considering picking up a Lumen (handheld CO2 analyzer) and wondering what you think of them. Thanks!
I'm generally 16/8, with occasional longer fasts. I generally stop eating about 2 hours before bedtime. I know that could be improved. That for the video!
Thank you for all the info... Question... I go to sleep late....Like 1 or 2pm... but I eat my last snacl 12 or before....Then I sleep until 10am and dont eat until 4pm...Does that work? Because I am so used to it that I dont feel hungry until 4 or 5pm....
Hey mate, Luis from Australia. I would like to know if a 12-12 intermittent fasting is good enough to start IF. I plant to increase the fasting along the way until I get to 16-8. Though, I'm not sure if 12-12 is a good starting point. Thanks!
Thanks Dr Maggs , really super video, I tend to eat twice a day first meal around noon and second at 5 pm. I tend to graze in between these two meals, I think its bordom and I need to be doing more !
I needed to lose weight this year. So I started on Jane Plan, which is due to run out at Easter. It’s working and I’ve shifted over a stone and a half on the 5 stone I want to lose. I’m looking beyond the current plan and I’m interested in “carb dodging” and fasting. I’ll be trying the tips and hoping the weight loss will continue. In answer to your questions. I eat between 21.00 and 22.00. This is because the Jane plan diet leaves me with 500ish calories to play with and clearly I’m using them at the wrong time. Also, cancer prevention is key for me. I have Lynch Syndrome.
Hi Dan, love your videos but the volume on the transition is too loud! I noticed I have been unconsciously avoiding your channel because of that, I would very much appreciate if you could lower it when you can. Thanks for the great video!

Hey! Thanks for watching! Which of these benefits is the most important to you?
I.F I find that the best because the price of food is going sky high but I love your videos keep doing a great job
Thank you so much
Watching from Trinidad and Tobago. They are all important to me! Thank you!!!
Apologies, I forgot to say thanks for loading the vlog😊

By following low carb and intermittent fasting, I've got a much better pattern of sleeping and eating and my head is clear. The fog has gone. I don't get hungry to the point where I shake and can't concentrate anymore. Intermittent fasting and low carb, great. Dr Dan, fantastic.
Me too 😊
You loss Muscle and bone!
You are weaker!
If you fall you break your bones!
What is the benefit of fasting???
In how much time did you see changes in yourself ?????
@@paulandriessen489 There is many health benefits mentioned in the video. Also there is ways to prevent muscle loss etc when intermittent fastening, just one Google search away. I also have two friends who has done this for some time, and they have only gotten stronger and bigger.
@@paulandriessen489 Lions often go a few days or more without eating . They seem pretty strong to me. Better than the fat losers in the USA.
Hey! Been struggling for ages with weight gain and inflammation, just done two days 16/8 and feel fantastic, swelling going down, not stopped going to the toilet and I've dropped 6kg despite guzzling down 3L of water each day. 3 months until I become a dad, so looking forward to being lighter and healthier when he arrives :)
thank you so much.
Congrats brother, how are you doing now?
Fantastic thank you, still fasting and enjoying it. Hope you are well. Still killing it on fortnite? I'm playing Palworld lots of fun
I am happy for you. Keep up the good work. 🙂
Great. It works for me. at 72 feeling great
Thanks for being here for all of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊
So how often do you fast that way?
Did you eat normally from 12-8? Or did you do KETO?
I fast for 16 eat for 8 but I eat low carb and only 2 meals a day after a month the meals got smaller as I was no longer hungry or needed those extra carbs or that apple juice I didn’t even want sugar or rice I’ve lost 80 pounds .
*_I do my IF from 12- 8...I started it to maintain my weight and it has improved my sleep a lot._*
I do 16/8 Intermitteng fasting and it works well for me. Great video, thank you!
Fasting one month a year as a Muslim and I can say my body and mind feel the best during Ramadan.
....but don't you eat after sunset?
@@walboyfredo6025which would constitute intermittent fasting you idiot
Well done. I've been low carbing for only 3 months and when you mentioned skin tags I realised that mine had gone too. Incredible!
Yeah I agree! Well done on your weight loss!
I live in Spain and my Spanish neighbours eat about 4-5 times a day as follows;
Breakfast- optional,
Mid morning lunch,
14.00 main meal,
18.00 afternoon break,
22.00 Supper.
Hey I also live here. Yes the norm here is eat at least 4 times. Even as far as Dr's and nutritionist putting merienda on the diet plan.
@@janelisarodham6546 hi, do you eat much fruit currently, knowing what you know now?
Unfortunately it was already late when i ate but a few hours later (in the early AMs) i ate a huge burrito.
this vicious cycle began of starting to eat way too much junk (all the stuff i've been craving while fasting)
And i almost went to the hospital today because i believe i've overloaded my kidneys with too much junk, also have thrown up after a couple meals because i have a tendency to binge to the point of struggled breathing.
Fasting has changed my physical, mental, and spiritual life. Fasting is the way!
I eat and drink once every 23 hours most days these days 👊
A dear friend of mine died recently of Alzheimer's, I noticed that he was always snacking on biscuits 😢
Hi
I enjoy following low carb fasting diet I have breakfast & lunch finishing @ 2pm.
I eat during my walking working hours as I’m a housekeeper.
I reach over 10,000 steps everyday
I work 6days a week
Your advice is so good to the point I want to listen it again and again I will try to improve my health by following your advice Thanks
But I can’t Realistically see myself waiting to 8 o’clock to drink coffee I know black coffee would be just fine you discussed that and even a little cream my question gets down to this according to the label on coffee mate sugar-free it’s less than 1 g per serving if I had to guess I probably put a gram and a half into my coffee and I drink 2 cups religiously every morning

Hi Dr Maggs
Great to have a Dr from the UK!
Great video doc 👍. My
Mom has dementia & I’m doing everything I can to stave it off for myself
Cut out sugar. Take Spirulina and magnesium. Guaranteed you won't develop dementia
The absolute latest I eat is 9pm. When I do eat late, it causes digestive distress. Therefore, I try to avoid it if possible.
Dr. Maggs, I really enjoy your videos. I am sending this one to a loved one who is looking into Keto/IF... just overall health improvement. Thank you! 😊 🤗

Dr Dan, you're my go-to doc for all things low carb. Thank you for your dedication to helping us become healthier! 💖
Thank you for your information. You sound sensible. You are simple and on the point.Very easy to follow.
how does this video not have millions of views? Thank you!
Switched to two meals a day. Breakfast usually around 11am, dinner after work at 4.30pm. So about 16/8.
Hi Dr Dan, I tend to fast 8/16 eating my last meal at about 8-9 it works well and I feel great
Thank you Dr Maggs totally reinforces of the why I am doing IF - hca1b down from 48 to 43 , blood pressure meds weaning down slowly , weight down a win win x keep up the good work thank you 🐬🐬
Another great video Dr Maggs.
The most noticeable benefit I have had from IF is autophagy of a few small fat lobes under the skin.
I usually eat OMAD about noon.
That said, still have a bit of a broken sleep pattern.
See you in the next video.
Very helpful! Thank you for the free information. I Will def try fasting, the health benefits are incredible.
YES!! I'll be giving IF a GO!! Thank you for explaining it well! Please bring on more videos for beginners. Thanks!! 😊
I found this video enlightening, clear and pleasant to listen. Specially your British accent 🙏 Thank you so much Docteur 🎉
Big bravo 🎊
What’s TRE please?
@ Cheryl Hegarty
TRE = Time restricted eating.
@@cherylhegarty7330 Hi. As SK says, it’s time restricted eating. Just another way of describing intermittent fasting. I use it to differentiate from intermittent longer fasts which I do from time to time.
@@Peter-55 very helpful thank you
I have just started to learn about the benefits of intermittent fasting. Your presentation was clear and enjoyable to watch.
I typically don't eat after 12 noon for around 6 days .. never felt and looked so good 👍 😊
I usually stop eating at about 8pm and don't always have breakfast some days I don't eat until 5pm I was told this is why I am overweight
Thank you doctor Maggs for sharing this information.
I believe it is the best tool we have to improve our health. No evidence except my own personal experience with IF.
Yes. I am going to add IF to my current eating plan.
IF - one of my best decision in life!
:) Deni
I am battling a Cystic Fibrosis. Intermittent fasting reduces inflammation. Even the chronic ringing in my left ear has stopped. 🇨🇦
Thank you
Suman
I make an effort to eat dinner relatively early, preferably @ 5pm. I don't eat anything after 6pm. I'm currently fasting for 24 hours at a time and eating 1 meal per day. I drink water throughout the day as well as have a couple cups of coffee if I feel the need for a pickup. I avoid sugar and starches like the plague. I also try to really limit any consumption of alcohol as it puts on the calories. If I do have a drink, I have it with bottled water 'on the rocks' to not add on sugar calories.
I'm now doing the 5:2 fasting method case it's easier to adapt.

Oh it's good to see you back Doc
Just found your channel and enjoying your content. I've been considering picking up a Lumen (handheld CO2 analyzer) and wondering what you think of them. Thanks!
Hi Dr Dan I haven't seen any new articles from you for over a month, I have enjoyed the UK approach. Are you planning some more articles soon?
That’s my commute sorted this evening ☺️
nice talk bro👍👍
Best idea ever! It works for me! Thank you for your amazing videos.
I stop eating by 720pm and do not eat again until 930am, 14 hour fast that works with my daily schedule
I'm generally 16/8, with occasional longer fasts. I generally stop eating about 2 hours before bedtime. I know that could be improved. That for the video!
It’s a myth that eating at night makes you gain weight. They’ve done studies. Eat in whatever window you like 🥰🥰🥰 My personal window is 5:00pm-9:00pm.
I do exactly the same. Nice to know I'm not alone.
Thanks for discussing the benefits of fasting.
No eating after 4pm, but I’m asleep by 9 and up at 5am, eating a couple hours after getting up.
Great information doc! Thank you!!
