Wow, pretty sure I remember this one, being a local one to Torbay or Newton Abbot, NOD is a local plate! Passed my test in my mum's 144 in 1982. I remember the examiner didn't like the fact that the handbrake was down by the door, or that as it had no PAS, I had to keep backing it up to make it easier for to pull out from parked cars, again something the examiner didn't understand!
I would be interested to see another episode on these 144's, and seeing what NFJ is really like after clearing the area up a bit. NFJ's tax expired on 30th September 1990, NOD expired June 1992.
I don't think you can save them yourself - but I think you certainly can facilitate finding them both a good home. (The light blue one is just about a parts car, if it can be removed without it breaking in half) An early column change car must be of interest to someone. It is complete, which is a bonus. There is another video or two in this just for the extraction of them both - there are far less transport minded people on UA-cam getting good viewing figures doing similar on a regular basis, so it will be good for your channel. Good that it is in neutral (hopefully..) and the handbrake is off. Nice to hear that a Volvo coupe is going to feature in CRM.
You're right about the viewing figures. A video about a pair of rusty Volvos is proving to be more popular than waffle about FrenchTat. Who knew?! At the very least, I'll be finding the cars the right home. For now, I'm just having fun with the voyage of discovery.
If I win the Euromillions jackpot on Friday I'll have both and restore Noddy :) You have to save these from scrap even if you just have to give them somewhere to sit for a while as a stay of execution before someone can assess Noddy for restoration and for someone to strip the light blue car of any useful parts.
Another video will follow early next month. Will include a further assessment of Noddy and a thorough inspection of the other one. Fingers crossed for Friday!
if you do take these one bud, and the dark blue one is the slightly better of the 2, providing it isn't rotten underneath the turquoise one could yield parts which you might find hard to source. good luck! me and a friend bought a minor 1000 from 1961 that had been sat for 35 years or more outside. it was so rotten the engine was on the floor! when the recovery guy tried to winch it, the car tried to fold itself in half it was so rotten! the only thing holding it together was the drivetrain!

The first Volvo 144 was presented on 17-08-1966 and production started 2 days later on 19-08-1966 with a B-18 (1.8) 75hp engine. Automatic with gear selector on the steering column existed until 1971. Since 1972 shifter sat on the floor (cardan tunnel) 😎👍

on how many left, depending wheter it's a DL or a GL, the DL there is one 1968 sorned, none licensed, if it's a GL there is a 1972 one that exists. thats it. So i think it deffo needs to be saved!
Love the 262C - it would be better with the later Douvrin 2849cc engine than the original 2664cc though. Better still perhaps with Volvo's 5 cylinder Diesel. Whichever..lovely car!
There aren’t many of these left, but I don’t think even the dark blue one is going to add to their numbers. The amount of metalwork needed on the outer skins is huge and it’s not as if the other car is going to be a help there. If you had a tame metalworker and a workshop full of tools, it would be a nice project for the next year or so as long as nothing else came up.
Look, I know I am supposed to egg you on and get you to rescue these cars in the name of entertainment. But if I am honest my friend, are you able to take this car (let not even kid ourselves about the other one) on? I love patina, but NOD needs a respray, and fuck knows what is being hidden underneath it. That said, I know there is support for these cars but I have heard that some parts you just cannot get. I know you also have the AX on the boil (?) and the new Pug. The latter at least probably won't get that much worse if you leave it for a bit, but these Volvos need immediate dry storage and a proper workshop. I think you are capable skills wise, you managed to get a 406 Coupe back on the road which is no mean feat with all the computers and such. But, the base condition was also a lot better than these. If you really want a 144 (and I do think they look the best of all the big Volvos) why not wait, save a bit for a nice 144TC, they aren't exactly stupid money...
Sorry but nither of these two 144s are dead rear quarters always been bad very easy repairs I'd jump at the chance I guarantee the engine will run on both repair panels are available I'd buy both
I've had so many volvos I think I have them in the blood lol 144 and 145 also 3 164s amazon 122s and an estate p544 to the 162 your driving has been a dream car of mine only seen 3 in real life
