- I found a super cheap 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser fj62 on Facebook marketplace. Abandoned for at least 4 years although it’s unknown how long it has actually been rusting away. Can we get it to run and drive it on the trailer or will we have to use straps and a come along to winch it on??

It needs a lot of love I had a fj60 1982 model back in the day drove it the full lap around Oz took us every where , wanded all over the road at 90kmh , own a 2014 gxl prado now and we miss our old cruiser, enjoy 😉

That piece of cardboard is called a 'Cold Front". It's used in northern climates to aid in engine heating (and more for getting heat into the passenger cabin) by stopping cold air from coming through the grill during highway travel. Fancy versions have fold back vinyl panels to help regulate how much cold air is allowed to enter the engine bay. I completely covered my radiator on a day that was -45 without wind chill factor and I managed to overheat. Gotta leave a little exposed.
Makes sense, this thing takes forever to warm up Bc the engine temp stays so low.

looks like a 3fe engine, most will say its the shittest engine for a Landcruiser and that diesels n turbo diesels are worth more, but anyone that owns a 60 or 80 series with this 3fe engine will know how good they are, only problem is they are thirsty

This is cruilty with the old Landcruiser ,you people 1st check the air filter ,if dirty clean that,2nd put some fresh gas in the junky old cruiser ,3rd check the Plugs,and Coils
Then it will be easy to get on trailer but you find a Gem ;)
It is a Toyota, of course it will start!!!!
My old Toyota can sit sometimes two months, and start 1st turn of the key!!

I have an fj62 the thing has 800,000kms on it and a service history from 1986 until 1992 the rest isn’t clear. Have a receipt from 2002 for tyres. The rest is unclear. Had it for 3 years did literally nothing but drive it. Didn’t service or anything. Still runs 😂
Side not:
Moved onto a zd30 patrol. Just ticked over 200,000kms and blew its third motor.

@@ridebc153 it was a manual and wasn’t an fj, was a 4L diesel that made like 70hp and not much torque but it lasted that long without any work from 2016-20 besides 2 new tyres and a steel rim as one of them collapsed from rust. Was a beach car

Is spraying the engine with water bad or not? I never washed the engine when I wash my car
you should be safe if you remove the battery and then cover the alternator and some of the electrical wires and sensors. For that stuff it's just better to use a brush and some spray cleaner instead of drenching the whole engine.

Seeing bunper and lower rear window it was driven a ton on snowy weather where salt was used...same thing for carsboard. Really cold climates loke Alaska or canada they use a blanket like fitting to slow air and keep the engine at operating temps
The cardboard was Installed on purpose. These engines tend to run cold. Or at least mine does
down here in Canada that would be snapped up in seconds in that good of shape.
I just got an 80 series from 100 mile with 550,000 kms, thing is a dream to drive. Hopefully can last me for many years. Only thing will stop me is gas.

Other way around. It actually is there to keep the temp up by blocking airflow through radiator. These fj62’s run cold

Your right. But most electrical components and wires that had the potential to give me problems were replaced. Regardless you shouldn’t use pressure washer on engine bays. But that’s not gonna stop me
not really with this engine, not much electric parts put a breather on the dizzy, diffs, transfer case and gear box run them to the top off the snorkel, the alternator can be 2 foot under water or mud and it will go for ever all other electrics are sealed up pretty good on the plugs even after over 30yrs. these engine were made for over 40yrs they have a high amount of torque at low engine speeds, massive cast-iron blocks and heads and also very reliable no timing belts or chains they have a gear driven timing, they do use a lot off fuel but my 3fe 80 series has been run on dual fuel using lpg with a mixer type lpg injection for over 30 yrs, i pressure wash the engine bay every time i sink her n let her dry for a few hours n she will start again n let run for 30mins n all good
thats not how you start an engine that has been sitting for ages... at least change the oil and crank it over a bit without plugs in it so it can prime the fuelpump and pour some fresh fuel in there with all that starting i'm pritty sure it has some crankshaft bearing damage
other than that looks like a great survivor, would love to own one like that (with a diesel tho)
Been daily driving it ever since part 2 video and no problems out of it. Consistently Starts in a few cranks and runs perfect.
not with these engines mate, they will run off shittest fuel ya can find and the cheapest oil. start it up let her run for 20 mins n then fill up new fuel n get some new oil n oil filter, then change plugs n leads and air filter will cost under hundred bucks n will run 10x better
@@BradenBuildz ofcourse it does it's a land cruiser :D but you might have scored the crank bearings and journals by starting it dry, just something to keep in mind next time, now it might do 50k less than its 1 million km lifespan haha
