Hunting close is a huge must have in my area n I prefer dogs that hunt that way more n more the older I get. I love Hunting with dogs but I absolutely hate Hunting for dogs. Look forward to seeing him grow
I rescued a mtn cur mix from a high kill shelter in rural Lousiana last year. We live in the suburbs of Philly. This dog is the most loyal and protective I have ever seen. He is also a natural squirrel hunter. I wish I could let him off lead in the woods here but I have not successfully taught him recall and I am afraid he will take off and get hurt or disappear.
It's great to see what our new mountain cur mix rescue has swirling around in her blood !! Instructive. Thanks. We live in far outer Chicago suburbs, but not rural. So, once we kill all the heartworms, we will get her into training and find some suitable mental and physical challenges for our new feisty beauty !
That dog has got great instincts you can tell and he loves hunting for you . Can’t wait to see your finished product I’m sure he will turn out great . You probably want won’t to get rid of him when he matures . Lots of puppy in him but lots of heart
Them the kind of dogs I’ve always enjoyed getting!!!! Then make something out of them and laugh later when they ask is for sale. I done that a lot with beagles. Just getting into the squirrel dog thing. It’s a hoot!!!
Had a fox terrier back in the 80s she was from a litter my friend had her mother was a good hunter and was said to have cur in her , my dog was a very good squirrel dog she had a chase bark and a treed bark and she liked to go fishing with me, had her for 12or 13 years her name was Kiddy.
You still hunting with squirrel dogs ? I want to get my first hunting dog and not sure if I should try to find a finished dog or put the work and and try to figure out if I can do it myself with a pup . Also don’t know anyone so any tips on finding a reputable breeder or finished dog . Thanks
@@stark_outdoors that happens. The fiest/terrier I’m hunting doesn’t have the greatest nose but hunts perfect for me otherwise. Have a puppy on the way to rectify that.
If you have a decent Cur for sale I'm ready for another pair. Peanut and Pepper have an ingraved stone. It's been 8 months and I'm just getting ready emotionally for another pair
Is it okay to have this kind of dog for a house pet as well as a hunting companion as a means of getting closer to the dog socially or can that be done for I too would love to some day get a mountain cur for tree rat hunting in my retirement in a few years ?
If you watch the videos on here of the dog named Jax he is exclusively a house dog and the best hunting dog known. They make great house dogs and it doesn’t hurt their hunting ability, it helps because they have a stronger bond with you.
We have had a few around the 6 month age, but mostly puppy training here too. I can’t make myself pay thousands of dollars for a dog. I’m not made of money lol

That' is a good young dog I like him very much.

@@stark_outdoors a clean well tookin care of dog is a happy hunting dog keep up the dog manship

Thank you
Good advice
Thank you and thanks for watching
Just had our 3 yr old gyp bred to Razor. 11 pups and not a bad one in the bunch! Allen is top notch to deal with.
That’s where all my cur dogs go back to
Not seen any out of him that won’t tree
Really like them cur dogs
Me too, taking my favorite one out right now and going to take him out again for coon tonight
Jax treed 2 squirrels quick. Going to let him rest now for tonight
Great video!!
Thank you
I’m ready ‼️
Surprised nobody wanted him, I never cared for a dog to hunt way out even when I was younger. He's gonna make a fine hound
Here watching an older vid; so my dogtra sometimes has an issue linking the collar to the phone an suggestions? I have an iPhone 11.
Turn it all on outside with a clear view of the sky. Sorry I can’t be of more help I’ve never had any issues with mine.
@@stark_outdoors mine is every time I turn it on. It struggles I argue with it for a bit and then it connects!😂

Selling him only because he is “junk”!?! Ignorant conjecture!! This boy is great!
Looking for to this!!! Bring on the the SQUIRRELS
Ill try to get out in the daytime more often, just hard being a football coach this time of year lol
Understand that!!! Just something about squirrel hunting that I’ve always had a passion for
@@ronwilson3414 me too, for me it could be the fact you don’t have to be up all night to do it lol
Where did you get your pup from buddy? I'd like to get one
Looks like he could be a good meat dog. How did he turn out?
He trees but the trees are few and far between, not much nose I suppose

Where are you from. I'm from Mississippi. Let's get together and go hunting
If you have a decent Cur for sale I'm ready for another pair. Peanut and Pepper have an ingraved stone. It's been 8 months and I'm just getting ready emotionally for another pair
I don’t have any for sale sorry
Do you have pups on the way, if so do you have a waiting list... I don't do social media?
I don’t sell pups
How do you find a pup that hunts close? Is it a bloodline trait or just the individual dog?
It can be both as well as how you hunt it early on
@@stark_outdoors Thanks Clayton!
I would've taken it I wanted a squirrel dog
Wish I had the extra cash right now. Any body that don't like this dog is nuts. I like a close hunting dog. We have patches where I'm from

How can I get in contact with Alan Cross
Do you a black mountain cur puppy?
Just got me a cur pup I plan to train on squirrel any advice ?
Take it rides in your vehicle to get it used to traveling, take it for walks in high squirrel density areas. Let it develop naturally
@@stark_outdoors so pretty much everything I would do with my coonhounds just for squirrel
@@brockfishing3524 yep just easier because you don’t have to be up all night lol
@@stark_outdoors alright alright
Is that pup still for sale. I'm 73 years old I need a dog like that.
where can I buy a puppy cur?
Do you own the cornfield if not your knocking down some farmers corn
😆
Enjoyed the video.......I've trained every dog I've owned from a weaning age puppy. It's the only way I can afford to stay in the business.

Nice dog. I have a great Plott but would love to have a cur like him to. Maybe next tax refund....
Curs are a lot of fun, be sure and watch July 25th at 6pm my video that night will be from my best cur. That video will convince you to get one lol
Get a mixed dog like a bluetick and bulldog or something like that
If I knew where to get something like that I would
If it has Bluetick in it's blood it'll hunt.
Add that with pitbull and you have a family pet
@@jessedevilbiss8436 she has treed squirrels in the yard so
