- Clay Newcomb and Brent Reaves hunt the lowlands of Arkansas’s White River. Following an afternoon of chasing squirrels with Clay’s Feist, the guys introduce their host and second generation coon hunting camp owner, Randle Whitmore. Randle shares some hunting camp history along with his appreciation for Walker Coonhounds. Clay considers one of these Treeing Walker’s for his own, but not before a trial run in the field. Presented by Weatherby.

Clay and Brent are such a great addition to the meateater crew. I love to see the beautiful state of Arkansas represented. There is no school like the old school.
Talking bout old school:
You guys are going to think I am lying, but from my ages of 12-18 (1976-1983), I had a Feist dog would "still hunt" squirrel. She would follow me to the woods. When I would sit down, she would go hunt about a 250-yard circle around me. If she treed, I would go to her and make the kill. If she didn't tree, she would come and sit beside me until we moved a little further into the woods. I killed more squirrels and walked less distance than with ANY squirrel dog than I ever hunted with. I trained her from a pup and never had puppies off of her. When I left for college, my dad sold her and sent me the money. I heard that the old girl finally had 1 litter of pups. Judy was her name.😢
Super show!! Thanks to meateater for being the go to program for small game hunters. The feist dog doubles a a squirrel tenderizer also!
I'm in NY and have a Mountain Feist. No one up here (including the vet) had heard of the breed. Best dog I ever owned. Awesome family dog and unreal hunter. They come hard wired to chase prey.
NY here got ours from Tennessee 10+ years ago
Mr. Clay, I love your work and hunting skills. Watching your content is like stepping back in a time that most people will never experience, but they can, if they so choose.
Such a great episode. Thank you MeatEater for blessing us
Buy the dog. Then say to your wife, Misty, look what followed me home. Can I keep him?
What if she says no? 😂
@@Roosterboy_00too bad lol.
My buddy bought a finished squirrel feist. I know he paid a big price with a comma in it for the dog. He told his wife he found it on a job site. 🤣
@@wasidanatsali6374 what’s crazy is we used to have a male Jack Russell and female Feist and they would make the best squirrel/coon/rabbit dogs and they were also great pets and my dad would give them away. Free. $500 dogs at the time he would give away for free
Gotta make sure the kids see it first so its harder to say no @@wasidanatsali6374
I'm just glad to see Clay represent us houndsman.
It's a way of life that's fading away. Nothing like hounds to get ya on the game.
Hope you find the right plott hound
Another good houndsman page. Very informative. Really enjoyed it.
Ran across this in my feed and gave it a click. Entertaining, educational…just a real good video. Thank you.
Dude this video is lit guys keep it up
I love the Dale Earnhardt look Clay!
Hmmm, Clay could be a stand in double for a young DALE EARNHARDT!!! Always a groovy view as well!!!
2:35 mankind has been making levees since 2500 B.C.E I wouldn't call that a relatively new invention of man lol
"They sure don't look as pretty when they're wet" said **EVERY** trapper that's either caught one in a pocket set on purpose or had one mess up a beaver set. Their hides are gorgeous; they look AWFUL when they're wet though!
Decided to pass?? BS, the wife said no...just say so. Good video. I liked it. Clay is always awesome
1.5 minutes of "Meat eating" and cooking! Holy shit!
My dad always made cat’s head biscuits. This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone else mentioned them. May dad is also from southern Arkansas. Maybe it is a regional thing.
Man! Look at those dogs work!
I don't live anywhere near you, but I got my eyes on the ground lookin for daddy's knife anyway!
Great episode!! Never ask your wife if you can buy a dog or a shotgun, just do it!!!
Ole walkers are hard to beat
Thanks
Anyone know how much these dogs could cost?
I'll have some fine black and tan pups this spring, be able to compete with any walker.
LOL .. I think that was a shot cat at the end.
Can you do an episode chasing public land whitetails in the Ouachita mountains of central Arkansas? I've been trying to figure them out for years, but I've never shot one myself. Had a few close calls and managed to get a relative on one with an idea I had, but I've never pulled the trigger on a mountain deer.
I believe clay has done an episode or 2 on this already.
I wonder what made him pass on the dog. He did pretty good
We’re can I buy rocker
Anyone have any good recommendations for a NEW .22 & scope??
I’m brand new to hunting, have done a lot of internet research, but when I have gone into retailers to ask for in person help, I’ve been pretty much blown off (ignored or not taken seriously) or recommend to look for used guns elsewhere.
"I decided to let him go". I've decided to let a lot of guns and boats go in my 34 years of marriage. Never a dog though :) Great episode!
Clay, you seem much like myself in that you are a man that looks for the odd but hardy breed of dog, before you make your purchase please look at the Blue Gascon Hound, the grandfather to the blue tick hound, they are rare but extremely hardy and good dogs according to my sources also look into elkhound cross breed for squirrel dogs they are the best you’ll find! Thank you for the content keep on show in that good old fashioned hound hunting!
Those shears you use to clean the squirrel, who makes those?
Fiskars
@@ClayNewcomb-n8i thanks Clay, I was able to figure out what the were after I posted and ordered em. Came today. Cutting up my last haul of squirrel for the season tomorrow with em. Have a good one.
Hold on.... Hay string? Baling twine!
I was hoping to see Luke in these videos ?!?
Clay, my grandpa taught me to hunt with my 22, you don't hurt my feelings, I get it.
You just aren't a good enough shot to use a rifle.... 😉
Get ya a good English dog 😊
I gotta talk to my wife... Is man code . For ????
No.
I enjoy watching these small game hunts with dogs more than watching all the deer, moose, and bear hunts put together. More, please!!
Just spent the day squirrel hunting with my nephew and finishing it off watching this video with him. Life is good
Do you eat em?
Clay climbing honey locust trees... a braver man than me.
I laughed hysterically 2 times.... Dog plowing nose first into the water, and when Newcomb said he had to ask his wife if he could buy the dog.
Newcomb is wise beyond his years.
It is a lot of fun watching a guy try to figure out how he is going to tell his wife that he needs a new dog. 🤣
Man I listen to all the country life episodes there is and been wondering about some of your videos and here they are, I super excited to watch this, thank you Brent, Clay, and Meat Eater crew
I love listening to them on the lake fishing. Its getting warmer again so time to get back out there.
Thank You for a great video. I truly enjoyed this one. 👍🇸🇪
Agreed Clay. The only thing that matters is meat in the pot, not the gun used to get it
My dad hunted walker coonhounds for a lot of years. Used them on bobcats and coyotes also. I sure hope his hounds that went before him met him at the gates! He carried baler twine to skin em in the woods and used that stick trick for the tails.
No racoon recipe?
The name of the show is meat eater fellas
Kentuckians cringed at that squirrel skinning... throwing away the heart, liver, and head! The trifling wastefulness, omg. lol
That old Kentucky caviar is not advisable anymore with prion disease having been transmitted from squirrels to people
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures
IMHO it doesn’t get any better than this, thanks for sharing and keep your videos coming please.
Haven't heard the word flat landers in a long time. It's an insult, they're everywhere.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!! No self respecting plott man would ever pay money for a walker dog!!
Old Finney Clay (Glenwood, AR) used to say: “A GOOD Plott is a lot like Sasquatch. Everybody’s heard of one but no one has ever seen one.”
Confirmed @3:30 Brent is, in fact, an undercover game warden. WE ALL KNEW IT!! 😀
This episode reminds me of the book "Where the Red Grows." It is one of the first books I have read when I was a young boy
Small game episodes are hands down the best. Such an overlooked part of hunting.
Always used a 20 gauge to squirrel hunt. Have my father’s Ithaca model 37 feather light.
You don't eat squirrel's brains with dumplings? Shame
Clay, we met briefly @ The Western Hunting Expo recently and it was an honor. You and Brent are everything that Meateater was missing!
I swear I heard Clay’s burrito machine go off in the beginning.
Great vid. Hope you don't mind all the comments from one fan.
Awesome video i really enjoy the small game hunting with dogs the best of all, I know Big Game is what pays the Bills for you guys, but I much rather prefer to see the old ways and reasons we use to hunt for, and that food and fellowship, not trying to get your name in the record books, thanks for making go ole hunting videos with dogs and friends , God Bless
Try the blessed outdoors show. Friends and family dogging everything from squirrels and rabbits to deer and bear. Their NC 2023 bear season opener video is lit.
You have to want something real bad to climb a locust tree.
I would be interested in tht dog
That guy has been a hero for a long time. And seems he still is. Good companion on the hunt.
Tree rats and trash pandas
Need to see a White River trout vid!
Honestly, watching a good dog work a field is better than filling the bag.
At 23:13 clay looks like a Winchester model from 1970’s field and stream magazine lol, go hogs NEARKANSAS HERE thanks for repping our great state clay
Great hunt! Super fun to watch.
Bout time we get some more hound hunts
@4:46 say it with me Clay... a-corn
What? You all don’t save the head?
Great hutting and good food 👍👍👍👍👍👍
13:05 Clay has the “DAGUM KIDS BETTER GIT OFF MA PROPERTY” run😂
Clay: I like your remote holder. Where did you get that cool holder from?
Is that ole Waylon in the flesh
I see Clay, I'm watching!

That footage of the little dog running full force into that water and face diving.......beautiful
You should put your 22 rifle back up on the rack above the fireplace, try the air rifle by FX Impact, you will be impressed and surprised by how it’s very logical.
Ontario Canada’s squirt season opens tomorrow September 25 and our raccoon season opens October 5….I am pumped 👍🏻
Getting your food the old fashion way
Hi from Nova Scotia
Wait… I didn’t know Brent’s Law Enforcement background.,. 😳
Love this stuff. I enjoy the "Everyman" hunting content.
Need more episodes like these for the houndsmen and small game hunters. The memories I’ve made hunting over good dogs and talkin smack with friends in the squirrel woods, things I’ll never forget
I run a half bluetick half mountain cur . She is my first scent hound and having her teach me how to hunt has been the greatest pleasure of my life don’t tell my wife or kid I said that . But as a dyed in the wool city boy (born and bred in Brooklyn) my middle age has been spent trying to become the natural man I am
Can't go wrong with a big ole blanket back walker dog. Wonder what his pedigree is?
My cousin had all his Bear dogs from the Walker brothers.
Clay you have the best inside on a plott hound..Go ask Roy if he'll put you on one
Great episode!!
Yesssssss
Clay cooking looks like Zac galifianakis from the campaign.
👍🐿👍AWESOME👍🐿👍
Been a meat eater fan since it’s inception. Clay and Brent are no doubt the best additions!! Listen to every podcast on the channel! Hell I miss Bent!
Have you found "Cut and Retie" Joe Cermele's podcast? Even better than "Bent" was in my opinion.
He must of been a good UC, does not give off the fed vibe at all.
What are the shears clay is using in the video when cleaning
You definetly hurt Rinella's feelings
