    I honestly love how capable Barabara is in this movie. She never stops fighting. You would think she would be subdued at some point forcing Batman to have to come and fight Freeze himself. But no that doesn't really happen.

    I was okay with Mr. Freeze returning in Batman Beyond to wrap up his story, but bringing him back in the New Batman Adventures and turning into a full blown villain was an insult to his character arc and to fans that loved him. Freeze wasn’t like Batman’s other villains. He was a tragic, broken man who lost the only thing he loved and was forced to turn to illegal means to save her. Freeze wasn’t a literal villain until the writers ruined him. Fans love Freeze because he’s sympathetic, relatable and in real life, it can happen to anyone!!!

    • @WrathMania32

      Honestly while I get this take, I don’t agree, I actually like the idea of Freeze becoming a full-on asshole. I just think his motive for doing so could have been executed better. Suppose he and Nora had been on the rocks to begin with and it didn’t improve just because he saved her life? What if his version of Nora was just that idealized figure dancing in a snow globe and not reality? And once he had to reckon with that he implodes? I think that can work well.

    It's worth noting that this specific iteration of Freeze's backstory was a B:tAS invention. It's been widely adapted since then, thanks to its popularity, but the whole Nora/Victor Fries thing did not exist before the show did. So it's perfectly reasonable, I think, that subsequent versions of the character have broken away from it - I mean, there's not much more to be DONE with it; it was done so perfectly the first time, and depending too much on it just turns Mr. Freeze into a one-trick pony.

  • @nariousdixon933

    I love how each of Batmans major villains mirrors an aspect of his character. Freeze is a representation of Bruce's inability to move on from his patents death. He's mentally frozen in the past, just like Freeze is with his wife. Something I thought about watching the beginning again.

      @@Narutoanime16g Boyd Kirkland was a writer and director on "Batman: The Animated Series" for a good chunk of the show's run. He ultimately wrote and directed "Sub-Zero." It wasn't so much that guys like Bruce Timm and Paul Dini didn't like the movie or thought it was bad; it's just that when it came time for them to do "The New Batman Adventures," they wanted to use Mr. Freeze again, but found it difficult to do so because "Sub-Zero" had effectively ended Freeze's story and removed his primary motivation. Hell, there was a comic set in the B:TAS continuity, written by Bruce Timm that saw Mr. Freeze's story go down a different path. They wanted to adapt that story for the animated series, but again "Sub-Zero" had just been produced, and it wouldn't have made sense, continuity-wise. While the episode "Cold Comfort" wasn't received particularly well by fans, Timm & Co. at least got to redeem themselves and Freeze's character in the "Batman Beyond" episode "Meltdown", which found a way to build off what they did to him in "Cold Comfort," while making him sympathetic like he was in the B:TAS era.

    This was the 2nd ever, DC and Batman animated film.
    It was an straight to video feature released 26 years ago (March 17th) between the end of Batman:the animated series on Fox Kids and the start of The New Batman Adventures on Kids WB.
    Good story and storytelling.
    The title alone was awesome.
    The voice cast of course, never fails.
    Victor Fries getting some sort of happy ending was pretty cool.
    After all those years, he deserved a win.
    If one of the animated series' creators' Bruce Timm was involved, Nora would've died because the prolonged cryo statis should've kill her.
    2 animation companies in South Korea were involved with the film, it won an Annie Award
    (Best Home Video Animation) and was the last Batman animated home-release with cel animation.
    After the disappointment with Batman and Robin in '97, this was refreshing to watch.

    In my heart, I can never see Mr Freeze as a true villain. Instead, I see him as a tortured victim. He is nothing more than a desperate husband, a scientist who wants nothing but to feel the warm embrace of his beloved wife, Nora, without watching her die. He is nothing if not a poetic character, and deep down, I will always empathise with him. I will always be grateful to Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and the Batman: The Animated Series (1992) crew for redefining Mr Freeze from a goofy C-lister to a complex, tragic character. I truly hope we see this fantastic character in a live-action reboot one day. Sympathetic, complex villains like Mr Freeze, Xu Wenwu, Zuko, Magneto, etc... are always a pleasure to see. This is such an underrated animated film.
    Btw I do think Barbara and Dicks relationship in this movie is pretty cute. Though I do personally prefer Dick with Starfire form the Teen Titans, however Dick and Barbara are always an equally sweet couple

    This movie marks the end of the FoxKids era of Batman the Animated Series/The Adventures of Batman & Robin; before moving over to the (at that time) brand new KidsWB where the animation style, tone, character designs, etc. all changed to be more in line with Superman the animated series. In spite of all that (to say nothing of the 2 to 3 year time skip between this movie and the 3 part Superman the animated series episode “World’s Finest”) I assure you it is all the same continuity.

    • @Sandlund93
      @Sandlund93 8 місяців тому

      They really "ended" on a high note. But season 3 was better the 2nd time around. And World's Finest is a hidden gem, there was no way Batman v Superman was gonna beat that. Superman TAS and Justice League are kinda meh.

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 8 місяців тому

      @@Sandlund93 For real? Superman TAS and especially Justice League are widely considered great entries to the DCAU. Justice League's first season was definitely a learning curve, but by the time they got to the second season, and then relaunched as Justice League Unlimited, it's considered one of the all-time great animated superhero shows.

    • @Sandlund93
      @Sandlund93 8 місяців тому

      @@thedefinitionisthis Well, I just think Batman TAS and Spider-Man TAS are in a league of their own. Unless we're talking Anime as well, but I would consider that its own category.
      I do think Avatar TLA became better and better as it progressed but Hunter x Hunter is even better. Kuroko's Basketball was great too but those 3 are the only ones I have seen. I could see myself rewatch any of these 5 (already did with 4 of them) but Justice League? Nah.

    • @thedefinitionisthis

      @@Sandlund93not a big anime guy tbh. But within the DCAU, outside of BTAS, Justice League (Unlimited) is easily the series I rewatch the most. A lot of DCAU fans feel the same. Thing is in B:TAS he only appeared in 2 episodes. Heart of ice he's not killing for her - he's seeking revenge. And ultimately he's stopped before any lives are taken.
      In Deep Freeze, his only action is to put a billionaire into his same condition, per the man's request, in exchange for her body. When the billionaire tries to freeze earth, he assists Batman and Robin to stop him.
      Sub-Zero is the only time he actually has deaths on the record: the submariners at the beginning in a fit of panic, and an attempt at Barbara's life, which fails. As many times as he broke the law, and as broken as he was psychologically, this Freeze specifically has a fairly low list of things to forgive

    Such a beautiful looking movie and awesome last chapter for the og Mr Freeze in the BTAS timeline. This is the last animated film that was a part of the original BTAS timeline. Every other show/movie/comic in the dcau have mainly felt like they were only loosely connected to BTAS . Like Tim/Robin was older in a Static Shock episode(went off to join The Titans) unlike in the Batman Beyond timeline where he didn't last as Robin because of The Joker. Mr Freeze is a straight up villain in the New Adventures which takes away what made Mr Freeze special/unique in the BTAS timeline. In one of the DCAU comics Nora dies and Batman is there with Freeze at Nora's grave comforting him. There are so many more things that don't connect to the original show. I still enjoy them all though, they remind me of the DCEU in ways where they don't all feel as connected to each other either .

    For me Mr. Freeze loses too much of his 'sympathetic villain' status in this one. The first two stories he is reckless when it comes to collateral damage, but he really only wants to kill Ferris Boyle and save Nora. This time he's willing to straight up murder an innocent woman. Even if it's to save Nora it's a step too far for me. And by 'Cold Comfort' in The New Batman Adventures (aka season 3 or4 of Batman the Animated Series depending on how it gets broken up) his motives are villainous with no redeeming side. Luckily the Batman Beyond episode 'Meltdown' has him back to being sympathetic (and then some.)

CGI vehicles, objects, etc, have never looked good combined with hand drawn animation, and they certainly don't look good here. Luckily the overall quality of the DCAU's writing, character work, voice acting, etc, is usually able to compensate for this draw back going forward.
