    Oh this reminds me of my mom. There wasn't anything that she couldn't make or do. She would look at something, and say oh my gosh I can do this with that. And then do it. She was so smart. Her ability of spatial visual and being able to take something that I could look at and immediately make something in her head and then bring it into fruition. What a beautiful thing. I miss her so. With that said. She's still inspires me on a daily basis. Especially whenever I want something. Remembering her helps me think outside of the box. Not all has lost when we lose someone. They live on throughout our thoughts and our actions. I love you Mom. I hope I make you proud. I always ask what would my mom do? And then I get to it. Haha 😆
    Beautiful work. I ordered that jig about 7 years ago. My husband's like are you serious I said you better believe it. 🤣🙌🏼

      What beautiful words. My mum is the same as your mum, she can make it fix anything! I’m so lucky to still have her. I don’t know how I will cope when she leaves this world one day. She is my best friend. Cheers to mums who guide us through life. 🌺

      You could easily pad the arms with foam and cover those as well. I’d make a lightweight box frame for the arms if I was doing an indoor lounge. The sleeper arms I did are SUPER heavy.

    ok what ! youtube creator recommended your video to watch for its DIY and the fact that we are all in australia! and man im i soooo glad they did! this is so awesome. the fact that you combined the ikea frame with sleeper logs OMG!! the sleeper longs are the cheapest i can find in bunnings and i love them but i always thought they needed like to be put through a planner. but sanding for hours seems a cheaper option for sure. love this woman!!!

    Girl you are a bad ass!!! 🤩😍. I like that you actually made the cushions yourself, the piping gave it that custom... luxe...touch. Yes, they can be bought for less expensive, but you get what you pay for... is what I believe in. And the inexpensive ones are thin and just not comfortable, yours looks good enough to sleep on.

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY  3 роки тому

      They sure do, but who said you have to use expensive power tools? A hand saw, sandpaper, handle drill, needle and cotton all don’t cost much. I don’t buy power tools as single use items, I invest in equipment that I use to save myself thousands of dollars every year. I also make money with my power tools. Also, do you include the cost of the oven in a loaf of bread?

      It would be great if we had that at our second hand stores in Australia. The fabric at our fabric stores is 50% off most of the time but their outdoor fabric isn’t good quality. I need to remake these as the fabric didn’t last very long. Going to use Sunbrella this time.

    Girl, I take my hat off to you! Those Skills!!! Fantastic job.
    I'm 62, been Labourer to my husband during all our (small) DIY jobs over the past 40+yrs. Looking back we loved our time together, chatting. Sadly neither of us have the skills to create anything this impressive.
    I'm particularly in awe of young women who turn their hand to such DIY. Secretly wish now I had learnt how to bricklay, although back in the day vocational skills train8ng in the UK were very gender specific.
    TBH I've got all the gear but no idea...I don't think I'd trust myself with many of our power tools: a circular saw scares the life out of me! Getting too old now, my grip's going.
    I'm totally in awe of any young person who gives DIY a go. There's something so satisfying about looking back at what you've achieved.
    Keep making your vids for ol' gals like me. 👍 💕

      Thank you so much! I only started buying most of my power tool collection at age 39 so you’re never too old. They all seem scary at first but I promise once you use them the first time, all that fear goes away. Here is my video on how to use a circular saw. I have a really small light one that fits in my hand perfectly.

      My grandma (born in '29) taught me how to use power tools. She started working in lumberyards in her 20s or 30s and helped my grandpa build the house I grew up in! Women with power tools can do incredible things. 💜💜💜

      @@catie5939 my mum was born in '20. She had 5 kids, looked after a menagerie of pets my sibs used to 'acquire', 2 gardens and a 4-bed house she ran etc.
      It was brand s new Council house in S.E London ('60) so nothing structural to do. But she and our dad built garden sheds, erected fences, laid paths, re-fitted a kitchen themselves.
      They used to decorated most Easter holidays.
      I got the decorating 'bug' and was allowed to wallpaper and paint my own bedroom when I was 15!
      My mum loved a paintbrush....used to wonder "what colour the front door would be today?' when I came home from school most days!

      @NicoleHerrickDIY  4 місяці тому

      Thank you. Yes we just put the decorative cushions out when we are sitting out there. The fabric I used wasn’t the best. I’m going to remake the box cushion covers with Sunbrella fabric as it’s much better rated. Stains came off fairly easily but it got brittle within 2 years and ripped everywhere.

    This is a great idea! How is it holding up? My only concern is that the frame would rust / the slats may fail exposed to the elements? Looks fantastic though.

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY  3 роки тому

      I need to go back and sand the slats and reseal with an outdoor sealer as they are getting a little mouldy. The frame is fine so far. I also need to spray the fabric with some waterproofing as it’s not 100% waterproof like it said. A few cans of marine waterproof spray from the auto store is what I’m going to use for the fabric. The colour still looks great through. Doesn’t look dirty at all. So glad I went with beige. And the legs and frame look great.
