Seen from this angle, the realization seems to be very accessible. The presentation is simple and quite nice: neither too professional nor amateur. I think I will wear my choice on this sofa. thank you so much
Bonjour de France, Dimension finale et prix total de votre grand canapé ? Quelle épaisseur de bois ? Peut on mettre de grosses roulettes avec freins ? Pour le déplacer plus facilement. D'avance merci pour votre réponse.
While we're cooped up, this new sofa has been AMAZING! We love how it turned out and how comfy it is. If you want to make one yourself, we have all the dimensions and the print out of the back support FREE on our blog at imeemade.com/blog/loungesofa Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed the video. That is without a doubt, the most solid plywood legs ever. Great build. We look forward to seeing more of your videos. BTW... it is nice to watch couples work together on a UA-cam channel.
This video is a godsend! Watched the entire video several times, read the blog post, added everything to my Lowe’s cart, and will hopefully be lounging by the end of the week. Well, also have to take a trip to IKEA for the mattress but that’s at the very end! I just moved into a one-bedroom apartment and this is JUST what I’ve been looking for! I’m trying to decide what type of wood to use for this DIY. It’s between birch and poplar. Birch is a bit more expensive but this is my first indoor furniture build so I’m consider all available options. Can’t tell what y’all used. What’s your recommendation?
I like this (and love the dog) but I wonder how heavy is it? You want it to not slide if someone plops down but this might be too heavy to ever move? How is it?
It's pretty heavy as an entire assembly, but by putting felt pads on the bottom we can slide it around on our hardwood floors. it does take two of us and a decent amount of strength to move it to but not impossible. It's heavy enough that an average adult can plop down and doesn't move
Guys yalls narrative and music choice meshed so perfectly with the video content & editing. Thank yall so much for a great diy couch video.. Did I miss the price point for the overall cost of material?
Thanks a lot!! We didn't mention the cost since material prices vary depending on location, but iirc we spent around $300 all in, that includes the mattress, all the plywood, glue and cushions
Did you have to do anything to keep the mattress from sliding out from underneath you when you lean on the backrest? Or do you get enough friction straight on the polyurethane?
@@IMEEMADE ah ok nice! I always like to go over a PU finish with a used piece of 400 grit sandpaper to knock off the high points and get a super velvety smooth finish… so it always ends up pretty slick. I really like the finished sofa, I might consider doing something like this once my ikea couch gets worn out… in 40 years
Check out our blog post with written instructions and detailed measurements: imeemade.com/blog/loungesofa Feel free to email us if you have any questions!
Why double the 3/4" plywood on the seat of the couch? One sheet is rated for 80 lbs per sq ft which should be plenty I would think. Just curious what the logic was behind that and if it wasn't necessary, maybe it could be built for even less cost?
Looking at this again. Really great work. I don’t have tools or space to work but I could have someone laminate and cut for me and then put it together at home. Thanks.
Like your project a lot. I am going to build one. Do you have the drawings for the into 20” x 16” pieces for the back rest supports? The dimensions? I don’t have CNC, I will need to spend time cutting these. 😔. Thank you very much for making this video.
Thanks for sharing. This is going to be my second project. How can I cut out the spines without the Shapeoko. What tools do I need? Would you mind sharing the dimensions for the spines please?
hey there! you can download a drawing of the spines on our blog here: imeemade.com/blog/loungesofa we made it specifically for those who want to make it without a CNC!
We typically don't mention cost on our videos because price can vary widely among regions and even the timespan when we post the video vs when someone watches. We provide a list of everything we used in the description as well as our blog so anyone following along can easily calculate the cost of materials when they're ready to build. Thank you for watching!
Nice! In hindsight is there anything you would change? Is the mattress too big (a twin mattress seems big ti me)? Does the mattress slip around on the plywood (maybe velcro strips would be a solution)?
Thanks for watching! The only thing we would change is making the back rest a few inches taller. Otherwise everything is exactly how we want it. We ended up putting a non slip pad similar to drawer liners underneath the matress to keep it from moving around
I want to cut a long pvc pipe into 6. Then fill with cement. Spray paint the color of choice and use that for the legs. Cheaper than wood maybe and less tools. And add a strip light underneath.
Thanks! Totally understandable. The back support design is simple enough to cut out with a jigsaw or handsaw. We should have definitely made that more apparent or at least showed how to make one of them by hand for other DIYers
Me gusta mucho el sofá y bien sensillo los felicito les saludo desde Ecuador por favor dígame si lo que va esos palos gruesos muy gruesos es madera oh pleibo gracias por la respuesta, por favor escribir en español somos latinos no entendemos inglis
Great job. I was looking at something VERY similar on a furniture website. The price was quite high. They had a schematic to show how to put it together, which one could easily figure out how to DIY. If you’re curious, I can give you the link to the site.
Of course! base = 48in x 96in (1219mm x 2438mm) back rest = 21in x 96in (533mm x 2438mm) legs = 6in x 96in (152mm x 2438mm) cushion = 38in x 75in (965mm x 1905mm) (twin size mattress)
@@IMEEMADE thank you so much. 😊 i just no idea the size (and angle) of the wood that you cut using that big machine like CNC there. I dont know what is called. 😅

Great simple idea. I would use the plywood used for the legs to make a storage space underneath this sitting place
That's a great idea!
Very Eastern look. Suits a Scandinavian element too. Well done.

The corners could use a bit of rounding. An accidental knock with the leg could easily send pain screams two blocks away.

Our only concern at the time was the possibility of sagging over time. You can definitely use 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood and it would be fine.
