Also if you use a hyway closed port cylinder you dont have to use a base gasket with the stihl 028 piston more do you have to dremel a divet for the spark plug electrode. My numbers are. Ex 108° Intake trans 130° Intake port 102° Squish .023" Definitely gonna be a interesting setup when done. Hope to see more videos
The squish looks like money with the 028 Super piston!!! Those numbers don’t look bad at all for out of the box. I would run it like it is and see what it does.
I'm digging this series! I say go whichever way makes it a torque monster. Don't know exactly which way you would go on the ports to create that, but torque is a lot more fun to use than rpm. Always fun to get those dogs barkin' and just pull it through the wood!
Plus, what's the difference in the timing of the openings with the stock piston vs the Stihl piston in the aftermarket cylinder? They must be different.
A little late but polishing the exhaust would bring it to around 104 and then the transfer need to go with it 25 is magic for torque this is the kinda info I been looking for with the mix match parts and making it your own anybody can rebuild but making it better is the key
Shud try it first so you can see how it reacts to extra compression then u can get a base line port it an test again I wonder how it will do with the 028 piston has windows an stock piston does not eather way looks like fun
There is a issue with the spark plug electrode that hits the popup. Also getting the piston down to around 54 grams is ideal. I had the piston shaved .026 for the spark plug electrode issue I took and marked the piston with a paint pen and used a dremel to cut material out so I didnt have to cut down the popup piston. I personally think a hyway closed port ported and case trenched the gains would be really decent. The build I did with port matched to the cases I used a stihl ms290 super 46mm piston cut .024 popup was a bit to large so I used a base gasket dont remember the thickness. Ended up with .032 squish and it was a bit stouter then I expected for Dutch a short stroke small bore saw.
Either way would work. I do know the new casting for the 55 closed port cylinders has a .012-.015 taller combustion chamber so you don't have to have the 028 46mm window piston cut to get your squish with no base gasket and they make serious compression had to put a decomp in this build because I personally couldn't pull it over. I did build a pipe for it so I need to do a video of it.
The open port cylinders will most likely hit the top of the cylinder with the 028 popup piston. I personally would buy a hyway closed port 46mm cylinder and find a cheap 46mm stihl 028 piston on eBay and run it.
That’s the plan. Business is picking up and I’ve been busy with mowers, ATV’s, and tillers this week. I hope to pit the saw back together this weekend and video it running
I would love to see the rest of this series! Been waiting to do some work on my 55

Never thought about using feeler gauge instead of first ray of light, that's awesome and so much faster/objective

108 Exhaust 104 intake w/ 028
106 Exhaust 112 intake with stock piston.
Looks like a solid runner as is. I’d be interested in seeing what you’re plans are with the transfers.
Hi. do I have to make any modifications to put a stihl 028 piston in it?

port the huri and run the oem stock

What about using a spark plug with a less prominent electrode instead of cutting material on the piston?

@@rncboy2 Thank you, I hope to watch the video soon.

what happen to finishing this series?
Hi, I also have a husqvarna 55, I can change the piston with the model from Stihl 028av Super, does it work?
what happens next
So stock cylinder won't work
You know what they say if it ain't broke add more power lol 😆
I realize it’s a lot of extra work! Test without any port changes, then port and see if there’s any gain in torque.
