- In this video we talk about humidity, maybe one of the most stressed about and IMPORTANT parts of keeping tarantulas. I see this over simplified a lot, I see it overcomplicated a lot, so instead of just explaining I wanted to show HOW and WHY I water my tarantulas the way that I do, and what's been working for me. To put it simply, there's some thought into it but not a ton d:

I'm one of those water dish and dry substrate kind of guys. Mold anyone? But you have influenced me in regard to my A. Chalcodes. She molted around June first last year. She started sticking her butt in the air about a month before the molt. Guess what? She is sticking her butt in the air again. No matter how often I tell her it's undignified, she keeps doing it. So since I know she's going to molt, I'm going to play it safe and make it a little more humid.
Hi I’m a new subscriber got my first 11 tarantulas when I did a lot of research you was one of my first videos I watch for months you and dark den I love all your videos sending love from DC
Im in DC too...whats your ig? I'm got 17 or 18 Ts
Tim Sawyer thanks lol when I was looking to buy I realized I just couldn’t get just one lol I got like 4 slings and the rest juveniles loving it
I do mist or use a pipette to do drips for slings but I dont like them not having a water dish. So all my small slings have small tattoo ink pots for water dishes. They are the perfect size for slings xx
When exotics lair dosent upload watering videos so you have to make your own
I just got myself a Brachypelma hamorii! I love how informational your videos are and I have started doing this to help with the humidity of my enclosure and it helps a lot!
Uhhhh are tarantulas praying mantises enemy?
What I do is that I spray single side, usually once a week with a total whole enclosure spray once a month. Also once a month (but never on the same time as full spray) I use a pencil (or something with similar shape/size) to create a hole reaching 4-5 centimetres deep, and pour water there to make sure there will be some residual moisture in the deep substrate.
I don't really like flooding the enclosure, it feels messy for me. I am thinking about putting a small watering tubes in the enclosures to remove the need to create the watering hole every time I am doing deep watering.
Hi, Great Video as always Kat.
I feel like I should put this out here but using a staw as a water dish for slings works great, I often see people having trouble finding water dishes for smaller T's.
-melt the bottom part of the plastic straw and press it together with tongs to seal.
it's the best use of plastic straws :-)
anyways Great Video and looking forward to the next ones! stay safe
My A. chalcodes is STILL buried in its burrow 😭 Come out, child it's spring I promise!
Haters will hate. Do what you do if it works 🤷♂️
Everyone has their own ways of doing things. Great video.
@tarantula kat I love how attentive you are! It shows just how much you care about your little guys 😊🕷️❤️
Where did you get the stackable ones that had the mew in them?
Mien are slings so I get a bit nervous about the humidity at times. I mostly keep dry, african species so the info gets weird sometimes. I sometimes see people commenting to keep H.Pulpripes on bone dry substrate not realizing the pic is of an under 1 inch sling. Something like that could possibly kill it.
Also, have you considered keeping your OBT's in a more arboreal type enclosure? They are such heavy webbers and I feel like giving more headpace helps prevent them from webbing down the lide. I have mine kept in an arboreal enclosure. It mostly hangs out in the burrow under but it has a lot of webbing uptop as well.
I cant wait to see the tarantula hunting expedition I would so love to go and find tarantuals in the wild
😷
I'm in North Texas. Found a really nice female A.hentzi a couple of weeks ago. Currently have her in a 14"×10"×9" custom acrylic that I made. She's been posturing and stretching for the last week, so I think she's going to molt soon. I'm on the hunt to find her a big, healthy boyfriend. Also have a wild caught Latrodectus mactans that's about to turn 2. The A. hentzi you have, are a lot darker than the one's I find here. Here, they're a light sandy, almost bronze color.
I need help please kat: I have like 20 baby jumping spiders that I need homes for.. and I'm just too small of a channel to be getting any requests... they r free and I was wondering if u knew anyone or any of ur subscribers might want any I can send them to u and u can do it or I can ship anywhere in the usa for free... I just want to spread the love of keeping and jumping spiders are super easy as u know.. and would be a good introduction for some into the hobby! Please lmk if u have any thoughts and thank you again for a wonderful video
Hi, just a little question from a beginner. Is it OK to put a sling(2-3cm) in a terra of 30x30x30cm or do I need something much smaller???
The "subscribe if you're not already, and you want to be" makes me chuckle every time. Good content!
I put some water on one corner of my new curly hair's enclosure...It is about 1" 1/2 maybe...And it wanted to stay on the side of the enclosure...Does that mean it doesn't want much water in the substrate? Or just acting normal?
Where did you acquire the E. campestratus slings??
These videos are super helpful for someone like me who's looking to get into the hobby. I really want to get my first tarantula but I live in a basement suite right now where it's generally pretty chilly - especially at night. Could a curly hair or rose hair tarantula survive alright in a cool environment? Or should i be getting some sort of reptile heat lamp or something lmao
I've always been scared of spiders but for some odd reason watching you makes me want one to join my family
BTW how do Ts drink f they're inside their burrow all the time? I have a cobalt blue that only come out once every 5 days and i only water the opening of the burrow which goes straight down. Is that okay?
...so far none of your Tarantulas have started webbing an Ark?🤪
How do you think I should keep my a.chaldcodes. He seems to prefer it mostly dry. Always buries his water dish also
I do the same thing with my T.Vagans where I overflow the water until it flows down the substrate and into it's burrow, my only concern is with the old molts which are in the burrow and I can't remove them without completely destroying the burrow. I think 1 of them is somewhere near where the water flows down but I'm not 100% and the new moult is pushed to the bottom of the hill down to the main burrow area.
I’m so scared but so interested at the same time
Maria Cardoso take the leap and you will fall in love
You're doing a great job!
It was the same thing for me at the very beginning but Kat is so... AMAZING and sweet that she cured my arachnophobia!!!!
I’m watching ALL her videos every day and planning and taking information for keeping a Grammostola in captivity even if the laws is very strict on keeping exotic animals here because we don’t have any here in Italy! That’s so amazing!!!! I suggest you to do the same ❤️
I like the way that you explain every word how you watering your tarantulas
I have a question I have an Arizona blonde that is just a little one similar to the first one you misted. what do you feed that tarantula? I usually take a cricket and pull it apart and stick it in there. He’s molted twice in five months but he still tiny. And he won’t kill any pinheads. I do think I’ve ever seen it eat either.
I would love to hang out with you and let you teach me about your spiders and other critters. I want one but I’m still scared lol
Some say you shouldn't put tarantulas in a critter keeper so do you only put certain T's in there or it doesn't matter?
What are these little enclosure u have for the mew slings I kinda want some
12 of nine just molted and all came out great so I must be doing something right
Thanks my Seemanni has been down for a while and im gonna water the fk outta her right now.
I had one of those and if you don’t release the pressure on the water will come out of the top and you will have a puddle over your floor
Me thinks Exotics Lair should see this ;)
I just recently started watching your videos, I love watching them and being educated on these animals. Thank you!!
The enclosures are too tiny for their freedom. They need more room.
How you get tarantulas or how you buy tarantulas
Will you please do a video on slings and adult tarantula molting
Great video tutorial. Looking good.
You rock, Kat, this was a great video
They have a lot of mold so quickly because you're just pouring water into the soil, not misting it.
Did you watch the video on why I pour it? 🤔
Can you link the enclosures?
Where'd u get the square enclosures?
Do she know exotics lair?
I live in the middle of nowhere an hour down 44 from StL I have NEVER seen a T in the wild! I’ve seen some giant wolfies but never a T 😿
I saw one in the wild when my aunt lived out on a farm in Hermann. First and only time I ever saw a tarantula in person.
Who dislikes these videos lmao
I did this but their enclosure had A LOT of mold the next day..... how do your enclosures not mold and moss up????? lil fuzzy bacteria everywhere 😐
Do you use coco fiber substrate?
noooo I do not but I'm definitely going to screenshot this for the next time I'm in my local pet shop 😏😏😏 thank you!!! I'm learning a lot from your channel 😍 I binge watch your videos hahaha 🤪 they feed my soul
Your enclosures are to small.
Been watching ur channel for awhile. Thx for being so helpful with the nitty grittys of tarantula keeping. I have a channel myself, Love urs and keep up the great work!😉👍
First again
🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊
Do you use tap water⁉️

God bless and more subscriber to come. 😊 I always watch you and the the dark den. 😘😍 Keep us safe from the covid19.
Greetings from the Philippines.😊😍😘🙏
Love ya Kat! ❤️👉🏻🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Nice Clip :>
31 comment hi kat you rock Love the tarantulas I want to get one one day thank you for being so inspirational and I'm always happy to be a subscriber 💯👍
I can't wait to see you hunt the wild ones!
Is there a reason you kept dumpster tarantula instead of releasing him back into the wild? Just curious! :)
Hey Kat, loved the video. I do the half damp half dry with most of my species too 😊
Do you have any tarantulas that go against what they're "supposed" to like? Ie a damper species preferring dry sub or vise versa? My A. Chalcodes for example I thought was supposed to prefer the dryer side but she's my only T that actively demands a full water dish 😂
I miss the old intro so bad 😭😭😭 This one isn't bad but the previous one was so perfect for the way you edit your videos and your humor. I know it's not a big deal but it was a tradition for my husband and I to try and time it and go "BAM" at each other right when it happened, always made us laugh.
For some of your tarantulas anyway 🥳, not hating , love the vids❤️
DO I have to overflood in my B smithi‘s enclosure?
halloween moon crab update??? would love to see those lil cuties!! unless u have a seperate pet channel for non tarntulas
I have that mister!! I’ve been having issues with it. I thought I was doing something wrong!! Glad to see it’s not just mine.
I really would like to get into the hobby, but I need to get over my initial fear first. lmao
Did you get one.
I've just ordered my first Tarantula, I can't wait till he or she arrives.
I chose a Caribena Versicolor xx
@@lauraclegg794 I haven’t yet! I’ve been doing lots of research and am thinking about trying to find a sling of an Arizona blonde!
They are really pretty.
I've ordered mine from a Website called Creatures from the East xx

You are so amazing to me I love tarantulas to do you have any friends that are girls who love tarantulas
Hiya Kat how much T's do you have and how do you remember when you need to food them?
They're all so pretty 🌸 Bubble's look pretty content to me
Do you get mold issues?
not much since I stopped using coco fiber
What's your favorite tarantula?
I give the enclosures my tears
8th!! I love your channel so much!!!
Another good video!!!
What?! Road trip?!
Hi kaaaaaat!!!!🥰
First
Do you give them tap water or filtered water?
Uggg I meant to answer this: TAP is fine as long as its safe for you
Do they molt forever or just after they're fully adult
forever unless they're a male
I love it when my tarantulas climb out, gives me some time with them. (safe new-world species only) My grammostola porteri's does not mind my hand i's a mission getting them from my hand lol.
Wen the tarantula tried to escape the dark den and exotic lair would be like no no no n u was super chill bout it witch was amazing😀
I wish we had native tarantula species here in Canada.
nice youre over filling the water bowl instead of just pouring it on the soil, much more gentle :)
💯👍
4th hahaha
