What breed have they gone for?
They have an f1 golden doodle. He’s a funny little guy. Doesn’t even look like a doodle. I might show him briefly in a future video, we’ll see.

I’ve yet to plant my T tubs and enclosures but I do have tradescantia zebrina in my bio scorpion terrarium and salamander terrarium along with heart leaf philo. I plan on live planting my Ts when they are in their adult enclosures 😊
There nothing wrong with housing a tarantula in a plastic bins as long as you have the proper care. Good luck with the puppy and glad ur back
I swear to god, even though most of my T's act like fuzzy little rocks they would move only to destroy whatever plant I would put into their bins hahah..

I would say that personally I would rather have only a few tarantulas and have them in terrariums rather than have a lot in bins; but I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the latter situation as long as the husbandry requirements are met...

Have to admit - I prefer the look of the glass Over the plastic. Plus you can view the T without having to open up their enclosure
I’ve been able to keep badge moss with my G. pulchripes, and she loves it. I’ll often see her digging under it, and even putting little bits of it into her main burrow.

While I’m definitely more about quality over quantity and would much rather have few in some luxury homes. The way you house your tarantulas is perfectly fine you know so much about them I care so much for them.
I would say bins for tarantulas are perfectly fine when there is cork, wood, moss, plants, and water dish’s or whatever natural materials the spider has to use to there advantage/enrichment.

I love the more fun variations of pothos; getting the mother plant is a bit more expensive, but then you can root cuttings and you're good. Manjula and Snow Queen are my favorites, but there are other variations too for people asking "what else can I use". Using a few different varieties makes it feel like several totally different plants!!

Only have a juvie Chaco Golden Knee at the moment, will plan on building a nice glass enclosure when she reaches 'forever home' size. That'll be for me, for her I'll make it safe and have the potential for lots of rearranging.
I recently got a true spider, Eratigena Atrica and she lives in a clear, plastic tub. Being a very hardy spider, the E Atrica needs very little. I have her living on about an inch of substrate (sand and soil) with a dried leaf for a hide. I spray the enclosure down a 2-3 times a week and she ate with me for the first time today, so she is very recent. Besides leaf litter and a flat rock, I'm going to give her a nice piece of moss to help with moist retainment. Plastic tubs are definitely the best option for me and enclosure snobs can go ahead and get whatever they feel they need to further their egos. I definitely prefer a glass ones but I have no issue with keeping them in a plastic container
I think there should be a little more substrate in theyre bins they burrow and live and sleep underneath where they spin their webs

It all depends on how many tarantula's you've got in your collection if you've only got a few then glass terrariums look awesome on racking but if you've got a big collection of Ts then glass enclosures would take up far too much space plus with plastic box's you can stack them and as you've just shown you can make a plastic enclosure look pleasing too the eye brilliant video keep up the good work.
Sometimes animals prefer being in plastic because since it's not as clear as glass it gives them more privacy. Snakediscovery I had a really cool video on the topic and that's what they said about their animals

I’m going to be making a bioactive for my B smithi (just molted today in fact)
And made an exo terra nano tall bioactive for my avic. Loves it so far. Springtails only but w all the leaf litter I’m tempted to throw in some A maculatum. We’ll see 🤷🏻♂️
Like you said if the tarantula feels safe, eating good, has water keep it in whatever you want. I have tarantulas in 100$ enclosures and i have tarantulas in 2$ enclosures. How i do it is, if its a T that sits out on display alot and doesnt retreat when the lights come on, it gets put in a nicer enclosure. If its one that hides alot its going into a cheap bin or container, properly sized of course. As long as your giving the T proper care it doesnt matter. Nice video dude, you got a new viewer here 🤙🤙
Problem is mold and type of plant. And also making sure your plant doesnt introduce anything into the enclosure.
Great vid and yeah I alwayd try and use plants as much as possible and should use more although am still figuring out which is best. Devils ivy is the cheapest probably..

I think automatically people think it looks better in a glass enclosure because of display factor but I've seen other keepers re-use containers meant for displaying bats/baseballs/etc and I feel it has a similar effect as a glass enclosure. I think bins are fine but if displaying is important to someone they just need to do more research into different containers :) This was a nice video! I love it when people add live plants to any enclosure. It just makes it feel complete to me.
In my opinion, it matters not weather in a bin or in a glass or acrylic enclosure. The tarantula doesn't care, as long as you have proper temp and humidity, as well as proper substrate and hide spot as well as water dish. Most of my Ts are in acrylic enclosures except for small slings. I prefer being able to see my Ts when they're out showing off, but I have no problem with someone using bins, and for people that have 20+ Ts, I can see why you would use bins, it's just easier and cheaper.
I love glass i like to watch my scorpions at night while i watch tv
I think bins are absolutely fine, as long as enrichment (fake or real plants, branches, hides, etc.) is added. I disagree with those that use bins that do not allow ambient light in, such as some snake racks.
I prefer terrariums! I just got my first terrarium, and I really love it because for some reason I feel like my T feels a lot more secure, the glass is pretty thick and it just feels safer idk to me!! I have cats so the glass is less easy for them to bat at than plastic if they ever try to
when it comes down to what you're keeping your T in, it really isn't going to really care if it's in a plastic container or a glass terrarium, a plastic container is great for a more cheap and simple form of containment, while a glass terrarium is definitely way more for aesthetic and to be used as a decorative display piece, it's really just what you prefer

As long as they are suitable for them i see no issue. I would go for a glass tank if i had a couple, but if i was a hobbyist then tubs all the way (unless i had the munty to have a studio full of tanks lol). My isopods are in a bell jar but i only have the one colony lol. They also feature on my wall of curiosity so thats why they are in something more science/lab themed. Plants always add a lil something something to anything. Looks fab buddy.

They definitely display better in glass enclosures. And since I only have 2, that is what they are in. But I can see how saving money on enclosures with a large collection can lead to the cheaper bins. As long as they have the right environment and ventilation, then the plastic bins do not bother me.
Exactly! I would definitely do the same for all of them even though I have a few in glass now regardless. Like you said, as long as their environment and needs are met!

Thanks to your live video reply about a month ago: I now have both a neon and a golden pothos, plus a bunch of cuttings from them being cultivated in bottles around the room.
I can imagine Sansevierias (snake grass) would be a good choice too, being that they are super tough and don't mind low light, not so keen on too much water tho.
What do you think about bioactive vivariums for arid tarantulas? 🕷️🕷️
What brand of black earth do you use? Do you ever have issues with mold or mushrooms growing due to moisture?

I would say that for the majority of animals (with exceptions of course) can happily live in both bins and tanks. I personally keep all of pets in bins of different sizes and ventilation. From mammals to reptiles to inverts

There is nothing wrong with bins. It works. Since I live in an area that can evac'd at a moments notice, bins are more practical because it will be more mobile in an emergency.
I don't think its wrong to keep them in bins, but personally I rather glass bioactive enclosures. I also only have T and another set up for my next one.
You can also make a bin Bioactive 😉. (Not that today’s video was claiming the addition of a plant makes it Bioactive)

I don't think there is any problem with keeping tarantulas in bins. What matters is that all husbandry conditions are apropriate (substrate, ventilation, hide, water dish, ...). I keep mine in glass enclosures though, but rather for me since it looks better. I never thought about live plants in this respect and always thought it is just also for a better look, whereas the T does not mind. The thing with the breathing makes sense.

If you have a large collection of tarantulas plastic bins work great, it is basically the same concept of a snake rack for snake collectors. However in our house we house our in glass terrariums because we only have 4 tarantula species.

You can keep them in either glass or plastic, plastic is more affordable and easier to have multiple of, and glass is better for displaying them and if you have only a couple tarantulas it'd be nicer to have glass, but the only difference is price, and how they look.
Hello, beautiful tarantulas. Quick question, are you concerned at all about the poisonous oxalate crystals in pothos? Especially since the Ts chew on the pothos? My T usually doesn’t take prey right away, so I’m worried about the crickets eating the pothos and the oxalate crystals accumulating in the tarantulas body over time. Since they’re poisonous to dogs and cats, I’d imagine they could affect smaller creatures much more severely? Thanks!

Plastic bins work as good as any other enclosure. But i like good looking glass terrariums best. I have had maybe 1000 tarantulas during the years and nowdays i have only 20. But the last years the terrarium design is the most fun part. Keeping stacks of plastic bins with diffrent speicies on the shelf is not fun anymore for me. But keeping a few diffrent speicies in good looking glass terrariums with diffrent well designed habitats appeal to me much more. Juveniles and slings i still keep in plastic bins but adult tarantulas i keep in glassenclosures of the same design. For me, the enclosures should look good on the shelf and i try to replicate the natural habitat of the tarantula speicies i keep

@@Reptiliatus Yes, but plastic bins are as good or even better because they usally allow less light into them compared to glass enclosure, plus ventilation is fixed in glassterrariums but most glassterrariums have good crossventilation systems so that is a non issue. The real con is that glassenclosures are lot heavier, especially with lots of substrate so you have to have a sturdy shelf. My girlfriend have said that she does not like the looks of plastic tubs on the shelf and if i wants to have tarantulas i better have them in good looking enclosures so i have no choice really! 🙂
Can isopods and tarantulas cohabit? If I wanted to make it fully bio active and have the isopods clean up the T’s waste, would that work?
what is zilla jungle mix alternative? we dont have that here in the Philippines. Is it ok if I use a mix of coco peat, top soil and moss?
Hey man, I have a question, I just set up my enclosures for my whip scorpion and feather leg baboon, used 2 10×10×16 acrylic enclosures, used Terra Aranea from the Bio-Dude, I've been to told that pothos plants will warp the plastic in the enclosure, I keep my tarantulas in a heated greenhouse in a garage, I have a light source available, how often should I have it on? And is watering the plant once a week a good routine?
Can live plants take root in coco fiber? :)
Would it work with only using jungle mix?
Isn’t there any pests in the plants that can harm a T?
I would prefer to treat tarantula like we treat fishes, that is giving them proper enclosure that mimic their habitat as close as possible and providing them ample space. If you want to "collect" tarantula then you have to take the responsibility of providing them the best place to live, we don't condone people keeping bettas in a jar right? Same as tarantulas.

In my opinion it doesn't matter if it's bins or terrariums as long as they are a proper size and have the right climate, doesn't make a difference, only maybe in aesthetics, but that's got nothing to do with the animals husbandry.

The preserved moss can help hold humidity but ultimately live plants are the best option. Pothos is great

Depends which species but most have holes drilled along the sides of the containers too :).

hey, so im very curious if you know how doing this will go in an isopod culture bin or if they would just eat the plants up lol, im trying it out myself with a small bit of ivy, and might try a pothos cutting too now that ive seen this
Great question! I think that really depends! Lots of people house their isopods in bins with plants or even planted glass terrariums. I think the short answer is that if they plant is something they like, over time they’ll 100% consume it. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I’m planing to set up a planted vivarium for a A. Genic. Does your tarantulas destroy your plants? I plan on buying epiphytic plants and plant them up high on the enclosure walls so the tarantula doesn’t encounter them often.

I do not think the Tarantula will care if it is a glass enclosure or a "bin". I will only be getting nice enclosures for my females when they are mature. Tarantula Canada has good prices compared to other pet stores for enclosures.

Have you tried pothos? :) It's also important to use good soil for them- not just cooc coir. That's a common mistake people make. Hope that helps!
Please what other plants do you recommend ?
I would recommend some philodendron Brazil, pothos, sugar vine or maybe Calathea. Nothing that needs a lot of light. Thanks for watching :)

glass sucks at insulating and maintaining the climate. closemindedness is the biggest inhibition to successful animal keeping. Plastic is a much better insulating material. End of discussion.
