My first tarantula was a pulchra and he is an absolute sweetheart. Paul is so shy but he is the goofiest boy. Once spooked him and he tripped over his own legs. Also the only tarantula I have ever seen lay down - he puts his butt on the floor and kicks his legs out to the side which scared me the first time I saw him do it lol. Pulchras are so close to my heart, I love my boy.
@@bighashgang1990 I had a purple tree spider for many months he passed away possibly an internal parasite broke my heart now I have another of a different species and I bought Paul too because he used to be in the same genus of mine that died
I spent $275 for a 3.5" female B. Klassi a few weeks ago. She's a beautiful little fluff nugget. They had a bigger female pulchra for $400. Passed on that since I already have 2 3" pulchras, so a little smaller than the one in this video. One actually molted Christmas eve, was so excited since it's last molt was in March. The other one hasn't molted since February...painfully slow growers. Lol. But they are both super dark velvety black so I won't complain. Mine are not as chill as the ones I see on YT. They bolt and try to hold down their water dishes when I take them out to clean them. Brats. Lol.
@wadelive keep an eye on the Spider Shoppe website and sign up for his newsletter/email list. Both the pulchras I mentioned in this old comment turned out to be male 🙄 However about 1.5 years ago I was able to get a massive female pulchra from Spider Shoppe (local to me), she is my prize girl in my collection. Booty about the size of an egg. Lol
I got my juvenile G Pulchra female from Tampa Repticon with enclosure for $250, which I know is a steal. I was so excited, I couldn't pass her up. She is a doll! Love her!!! :)
She is an absolute beauty! I never in a million years thought about getting a T but watching your videos really changes my mind about getting one. I currently have a male jumping spider ( a female on the way) and now I want to get my first T soon! 😬😬 I think I might choose the Brazilian black as my first choice!
This is one of yr greatest videos. It has a sic beat, you can dance to it, plus yr voiceover gives it a Video Killed The Radio Star vibe, and I love the Spider Condo you built at the end!
i just got my first tarantula thank you so much you are the first person who got me interested into the hobby. i never knew how cool tarantulas were until i found your channel
I don't often comment but always watch. Thx for your videos. My dad passed 29/10/21. I couldn't cremate till 01/12. Its been a miserable Xmas and I haven't paid my Ts much attention. New yrs day watching this and you've inspired me again. Gonna go check onn my 30 babies now. Happy New year kat 🥰
Yay!!! It totally brightened my day when I got a notification that Tarantula Kat uploaded! 😊🕷🕸 Hope you and your family have an amazing and very Happy New Year Kat! 🤗💖🎆🎊
I have a G Pulchra (2 y/o) too but she's still young, about 3 inches. I just got a Gooty! I'm so excited!!! My Christmas gift from me to me! That puts me to 10 tarantulas, I'm gaining on you Kat!!! :-) Happy New Year!!!!! :-)
Hi Kat, beautiful beautiful spiders especially Elvira beautiful shade of black. All worth every penny I do have a question?? You know I am a fan if you don't mind me asking but during the second housing I was wondering what is the name of the beat that you were using for the background? It kind of had like Mario Brothers Nintendo sound in the beat it was really cool I've never heard anything like that. 7:25 You always play cool music that one really caught my ear and I would really really like to know .if you can?? If you can't I understand I'm looking forward to your next video like always hopefully you had a great merry Christmas and always wishing you a happy New Year.. thank you
Hi sweetheart! Elvira is so nice and docile!! You are right I think G. Pulchra is one of my favorite too!!! We are right because Pulchra in Latin means “beautiful”!! And this is very nice because you named the sling as Bella and in Italian means “beautiful” as well!! That’s funny because probably without knowing that you give the right name! And I really hope for a female of course! Thanks a lot for your videos, as you know they kept me company in this period of covid 😷 Much love, stay safe!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Those prices are crazy to be honest. I've seen slings go for crazy prices over $200 which you can buy in europe for probably 25 euro's. Great video, beautiful spiders. Merry Christmas and a Happy new year!!
I’m not in the hobby, but have always wanted to be. And this one is the one I wanted to get first but just now (through this video) I see they are expensive, what a bummer. If I ever get into the hobby I guess I’ll really have to save quite a bit of money.... but this species seems so sweet and docile, plus being super gorgeous as well.
Aww she is so beautiful. looked So laid back as well. Elvira is an awesome name... Mistress of darkness lol. She took the worm so gently as well. Awesome video Kat. 👍
So I have been watching some of your videos because they are fascinating, I am a lover of all things animals, but I can tell you I don't want to wake up with a scorpion or spider next to me on my pillow, and my husband was bitten by a brown recluse. But still, I find your videos fascinating. One other story I will tell you is that back in the 1950's or early 1960's, my uncle was in the grocery store, reached into a box of bananas and a tarantula jumped out of the box and bit him. He showed me the two little scars where the fangs went in, of course it did not kill him, he said the wound just drained for a while before it healed. I would guess that bananas and other fruit are now fumigated to kill infestation from insect pests (no offense intended), but I never forgot that story he told me, and he was not a mean man, in fact one of the nicest men I have ever known, so he didn't hold anything personal against the tarantula. My husband and I own 4 acres with a pond, and feel our land is a wildlife sanctuary, as we have squirrels, rabbits, birds of all kinds, a fox, feral cats, fish, turtles, and the occasional duck (s). Without our consent (LOL) we also have a variety of snakes, and all the green lizards are named Fred, and all the large yellow and black garden spiders are named Esmerelda.
Yep, tis the season to buy more tarantulas. I'm gonna be picking up some Aphonopelma sp jalisco, Aphonopelma anitahoffmannae, and a Nebo whitei scorpion. The Aphonopelmas are apparently somewhat new to the hobby and don't have much info on them from what I, or the suppliers, can find so it's a bit exciting to be getting them. Also I just adore the Aphonopelma genus.
The G.pulchra is my favourite T too, I'm lucky enough that my first ever T was a G.pulchra sling, had mine about 5months, her name is Pandora and she's not as well behaved as most G.pulchras, she's a bit of a menace.
Hey Kat Happy new year I hope just wanted to say love your channel and would love to see more jumping spiders love those little guys such spirit and beautiful thanks for doing this for are misunderstood arachnid
Congrats on getting a female Pulchra. I got lucky and mine ended up female. I have a female juvie S. sp Santa Catalina. She’s a little spicy and a fantastic eater. Love watching her take down prey. You will definitely enjoy yours.
Have you considered getting an Aphonopelma johnnycashi for the gorgeous dark coloration? I'm more tempted every day since they seem to be slightly less pricey and easier to find than the pulchra 🥴
You got a great deal on Elvira! She’s a beauty! I have 3 males so I also paid extra to get a MF. Hoping for babies too as soon as these males start maturing. Only 1 more molt to go on the oldest. 🖤
Have you found that your enclosure has ever gotten mold spores by using this method with the dirt, plant, water ? I tried recently but i used potting soil and dead moss.. mold spores popped up in a week...
Oh man I love me some Elvira, mistress of the dark! The actress who played her was inspiration for my actual name (I go by Kaz for short). Me mum was cool like that. They are both so gorgeous, and the voice over is cool with the sped up enclosure set ups. Happy New year Tarantula Kat, and to your whole family along with anybody who read my long comment lol Blessed be yall
I just got my first pulchra recently, it's so chill although seems to be on a major hunger strike for me, but has a nice sized abdomen so I'm not too worried. Can't wait to find out the sex but definitely have a while to go from the 1.5" it is now.
Ahhh, I was going to name my suspect female G. pulchra Elvira! I went with Morticia instead. So happy that you finally have a female! I’m so excited for you 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
It's always nice to get something you've wanted for a long time. I waited 2+ years to get a vinegaroon, wanting a female, but it looks like the seller might have messed up and shipped me a sub-adult male... So another year later, I finally found someone who was selling them at an expo. I hurried to the expo (took a ferry ride to get there, it was pretty expensive) and looked at the vinnies in person. Finally, after 3+ years, I found my female vinnie. Sexed her myself so there's no mistake this time.
I want to get a spider but I want to be able to handle it. Do you have any suggestions on species that tolerate handling? I feel like I would lose interest in a spider that is display only. Thanks!
Hi Cat! I haven’t been able to get an answer on any of my comments yet, but hoping you can help me. I want to get a G Pulchra but hate keeping crickets. Can I feed them horn worms? This will be my first T, I only have velvets and jumpers. Also is G Pulchra a good starter T?
My second t was a G. pulchra from Jamie's in Aug 2019 and was under 1". Hid for the next 1 1/2 year, coming out maybe 6 days. I FINALLY got a molt that was in decent enough shape to sex and I hit the lottery as I found out she is female. Such a beautiful species.
Damn, for once Canada is ahead of the curve? Pulchras are very easy to find here! You're making me want more. My pulchra's name is Ichabod :) she MIGHT be female, but she's quite small!
Oh my world, I just bought a mature female pulchra close to yours in size for 80$. Ive been seraching for 4 years to even find one tho, but woah, talk about different prices. I am from Europe.
woah i didnt know g pulcras were so expensive, i got mine as a two inch sling for like 40 bucks plus a free g pulcrapies from my tarantula guy i always go to
