Mike - I highly concur with the above. I'm from the States and know nothing about your city and I find it beautiful, interesting and informative. Keep digging and going!
Thank you so much Mike for scraping the barrel, your effort is much appreciated and makes so many of us happy in these gloomy time where we can't travel far. Love and Blessings!
Yes, we all miss the travel videos (especially the train trips) , but you have managed to transition to local areas and keep it fresh and interesting. Well done, Mike!!
I LOVE that you are doing this. Finances were tight for us for five years while my husband went back to school, so I did this a lot in the "other" Vancouver - Vancouver, WA! I even found a community orchard that a couple planted during the depression, and the pear trees were still going strong! I love looking at Trip Advisor, Culture Trip, and Atlas Obscura for the weird things in my area. Thank you for doing this!
Born and raised in the lower mainland love seeing a youtuber showcasing the beauty of Vancouver and its surrounding areas you rock keep up the awesome vids
Good work on running around the city to find these heritage gems for us! This takes a lot of time to edit and put together. I really like your Dropbox video idea too.
I'm sure your channel inspires a lot of people to want to travel vlog but hats off to you - hosting a show in front of the camera takes skill, talent, and courage. You're doing a good job making it appealing to a broad range of people... it's like a mix between Blues Clues and The Crocodile Hunter. Keep going!
Thanks for these videos because it gives us an idea of what Vancouver looks like. I love it. I wish I had of seen this earlier as I could have submitted a video to you.
You do good work and your enthusiasm brightens everyone's spirit. Your hair has really taken off, that is until it gets wet! Thanks for letting it grow! Take care and stay safe!
That is not scraping the bottom, you are just getting started, this video was great just like all the others! Your eager to learn and know personality does so much to spark the viewers interest and make us want more! Thank you for a great video!
I always love your videos! I have a suggestion for an interesting one...spots around Vancouver and BC were movies and series were filmed. A curious thing: I started my PhD at SFU last fall, but due to COVID I'm stuck in Brazil, so I've never been to the Campus...I've seen in the X files and a bunch of films though.
Being a Vancouverite, really love your video explaining our hometown. Hope that next time you can explore other cities in Metro Vancouver (ie. Richmond, Burnaby etc.)
Everyone who has enjoyed your travel videos over the past years should really support you now that times are more difficult to make content, however this is still interesting and well worth watching. Stay safe and continue to make any content you can and hopefully subscribers will support you.
Hi Mike, I love those 'scraping the barrel' videos. SO much more place to explore in Vancouver. Have lived here a while and didn't know about all those different places you keep highlighting. Thx
This DownieLive Video "Touring Walk" gave me a really good time, liking the James House, the celebrated one of a kind trees, and the noble rock; leads me to this👍👍plus for our famous tour host🍻Cheers Mike! Beth Michaud "Subscribed" in N.W. Montana
Mike, what a great idea to involve the rest of the world. We are all going to learn something new and unique. A big response from viewers will tell the tale.
Michael, I wish I could make a video for you but I am quarantined right now. Members of my household tested positive for covid. We are a three-generation family housed in a 5 bedroom house which was built in 1953. I love the heritage places you showed. It was interesting to see the trees are protected.
This was fantastic! As a history nerd, I really enjoyed the way you searched the CoV registry to showcase hidden gems (and trees!). UBC similarly has a wayfinding map for the biggest trees around campus. Vancouver planners and developers are turning the city into a generic condo wasteland and it was heartwarming to see these gems.
Lovely video of things in Vancouver that locals scarcely know anything about. You're doing an excellent job with limited, and diminishing, material to work with.
@@DownieLive You may already have one this, but how about Lonsdale Quay and the new Polygon Gallery right next door. It's a fantastic art museum (thepolygon.ca). Deep Cove while you're at it; not so nice in the winter, but still lovely.
Here’s one I just became aware of!! ‘Steelhead Lodge Secret Celebrity Retreat’. There was a secret lodge in Coquitlam that celebs like Liz Taylor, Clark Gable, and Errol Flynn would visit. On the Coquitlam River. Up the north end of Shaunessy street. There is an area where the streets are all named after very famous people ! They would hide away, fish, hike and enjoy our beautiful nature.
The old bowmac sign ..from the fire escape of the Johnson block 3rd floor across the enlet. As a kid used to love seeing that sign all lighit up ...neon blue bad red... on a summer's night . Back in the early 1970tys
Actually, the "bottom of the barrel," in Vancouver, is pretty interesting. Every place is interesting. I don't know the first thing about making videos, but I'll talk with neighbors about it.
I grew up in Vancouver, and it was great to see these. My 1st adult job was at 1155 W Pender so I walked by those lions every day from May 1973 to November 1976.
In 1973 IBM (where I worked) had the first 3 floors. I was in Vancouver in August for the 1st time in several years, so much has changed in that area with all the development. All 3 of these videos have brought back wonderful memories of growing up in Vancouver.
hey man, nothing wrong with "scraping the bottom of the barrel" these videos are the ones I love the most. It gives me places to go that I never knew of
Love this one Mike. Makes me not to take things/sights for granted. Too many people are set on simply pulling everything down, leveling the land into a featureless slab and then building monotonous blocks to cram as many humans as possible. The local city authorities are largely to be blamed by greedily approving it to generate more tax income. There are too many development loop-holes that are craftily circumvented by wily ‘developers’ or just complacent city officials turning a blind eye.
Always enjoy seeing you. The James House has certain similarities to Anne Hathaway cottage in Stratford, England. I know the Hathaway is more rustic and has a thatched roof, but even so, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the James. Your video reminds me of the old "Sunday drive" of my childhood. When stores were closed on Sunday, getting out and going for ride in the car was part of our afternoon entertainment.
Ok I'm biased for sure. 54yr old Vancouverite 😁 but Wow ! So very happy you took us all along . Sentiment and nostalgia are great feelings any time but so extra nice these days 😲 Thanks again Michael 💗
I have some good video from back in May of a cool place in Murray, ID. I have piece some clips together and upload it on Monday. Keep up the good work, Mike!!!
Hi Mike - the hidden gems of Vancouver is great stuff. I look forward to what is next on your channel. When we visited a couple years ago we loved it. Have you thought about doing some hidden gem places to eat? Stay well and safe.
Love this exploring of your beautiful city of Vancouver. I loved the Pacific Central sign at the Via Rail station in Vancouver.Unfortunately I got questioned and told off by security for taking photos of the station.Still I loved my visit to beautiful Vancouver!
I’ve been watching some of your railway videos and noticed the Scotland one. Up in killchurn, Scotland there’s an old train car you can stay in as a hotel right beside the active station. It’s sat under an old castle on the loch side. You also need to visit the Isle of Man as they have an electric tram way that opened back in 1898. I’m sure it’s the oldest electric railway in the uk.
Two of my fav hidden gem "water views". 1) Cameron Ave/Dunbar street, there is a walkway that leads to a concrete staircase that leads to a very private beach/waterfront. 2) 11497 Twigg Pl. There used to be a swing bridge here, the south van side is crap but the Richmond side is way nicer because you can walk onto the remains of the bridge. A rare part of the GVRD that is scenic but also very industrial .
This is awesome! I had no idea Vancouver had heritage listed trees and rocks. That's so cool! Next time I'm in BC I'll have to check out that list. And now I'm going to see if the city of Toronto has heritage listed trees and rocks to add to your video compilation!

Hey Mike, Keep scraping the barrel. I'm retired and these places are fun to see and experience in Vancouver.
