Being from eastern Ontario, I’ve only been out to Vancouver once. Back in the mid 1970s we bus out to Vancouver on a high school trip. It was great, seeing Stanley Park brought back memories, even if it looks a lot different now. Thank you.
The beautiful Pacific Northwest is one of those places where my heart dwells. Just being in the forest with you brings back the feeling of peace I recall from years ago. The treasures hidden in the woods were wonderful especially the twig sculptures - wow, fantastic. Thanks Mike . Once again, you knocked it out of the park and into a magical realm.
These types of videos are my favorite of yours. I live in Langley and sometimes go to Vancouver just for the hell of it because it's cool. Fun to check out the things you show!
Teapot Hill is a great hike over a beautiful lake. I lived in metro Vancouver from 1968 to 2010 and then moved to Chilliwack. I have been here for over 11 years now and I am never going back to the big city! The one thing you didn't mention was that the White Rock pier has been there since 1914 and was destroyed by storm surges in Dec 2018. It has since been rebuilt and that was the pier you were one (the newer one). Michael, this is FANTASTIC. Thank you for everything! Stay safe and keep on doing what you do!
Great work! Some fantastic vids about Vancouver and the surrounding areas that bring out the secrets! A place worth checking out if you have a young family is Redwood Park (17900 20 Ave Surrey). Not only is it an easy place to wander through with all sorts of different trees there are open fields for playing around on (or sky gazing), trails to explore, covered picnic sites and a playground for kids. But the main reason I am suggesting this ties into your 'hidden things' theme. Within the park...a little off the main trail is the Fairy House Village. Dozens and dozens of little houses that have been built and/or decorated by kids and families.
I grew up in Surrey, 62-72. Stanley Park was my favorite place to go exploring. My family moved to Las Vegas after this heavenly first 10yrs of my life.
This was a real surprise. Interesting to see what you can come up with under the current circumstances. I couldn't quite figure out what the first artwork was supposed to be. From your picture of what was once there it looked like large slugs waking up. The snow covered rocks were great. Keep up the surprises.
Stumbled across one of your train journeys and have been perusing your back catalog. I’m really enjoying all your Lower Mainland videos. Haven’ t been to Vancouver since my grandmother died in the early 90’s. So many places I remember as a kid and such dramatic changes.
It is great watching your videos. It allows me to see if the places you visit are accessible for someone using a walker. This week’s video was very interesting. My husband wants to pass on a message that you are very talented with the camera and likes your format.

Hey Mike, Congrats on 100k subs in under a year. You will be over 1/2 mill this time next year, well done my brother. Your videos never disappoint, always fresh, always entertaining. Thanks
i love this channel!! first video and this is so pure and positive and gives so many great ideas for exploring whenever i bring my fam to BC :) thank you Michael!
The Richmond Fisherman's Wharf is a great place to visit, especially during the weekend! Boats line up at the dock selling their freshly caught seafood (I believe they close at 3PM). There are some sea lions that also hang around the area! A few minutes walk from the wharf is Garry Point park. It's a nice place for a relaxing walk during sunset!
Oooh yes this would be good. Remember when that little girl got pulled in the water by a sea lion when they got too close? They are fun to watch though. And they have the historical buildings you can peak into. Garry Point when they had the tall ships was a fun outing too.
I just stumbled across your channel and so happy I did. As a fellow Vancouverite born and raised with a love of exploring our backyard, I love seeing where you go!!
If you were in Hope, just a bit further and you could see Hells Gate. I seem to recall it's a cool view over the river with some neat trails. But that's probably more of a warmer weather thing to see.
18,000+ steps is what keeps you in shape, Michael. Do you think exercise helps with your punning? All joking aside, your vlogs brings us joy, and when we live in this area, it reminds us we definitely live in a gorgeous part of the world! Thanks Michael!
I’ve lived in Chilliwack since 1998 and I still don’t know if the teapots or the trail came first. For anyone not from the southwest corner of BC, Chilliwack is where Cultus Lake is. Approximately 100 kms east of Vancouver. Michael you might want to try Lindeman Lake too.
Another creative and fun tour! I especially liked the sunset at White Rock Pier. I love sunsets especially on the water. It reminded me about my visit to Victoria in Oct 2018. I took a sea plane out of Seattle. What a fun ride. Victoria is beautiful especially when the downtown gets lit up at night. I wish I had made time to see Vancouver. I took the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles and spent a few nights at a lodge in Olympic National Park. It was a great experience overall. I met great people on both sides of the border and got to see a beautiful corner of the world.
Love your channel Mike. I lived close to Cultis Lake when I lived in Maple Ridge. Look forward to your vlog. Always so full of energy and beauty. Thanks again Mike.
Another great/interesting video Michael. I am so impressed by all that you have been able to find to keep you filming during the lockdown. Can’t wait to see what you come up with this week.
Great video! I wish the Vancouver City Council would have had the website updated with information on which art can still be found and which has disappeared from Stanley Park.
Hey @DowniewLive! We saw you on Feb 7th in Stanley Park around the seawall not far from the Rowing Club. We knew then you were going to put out new awesome content. Great video!
I find that when I am viewing your channel it makes me want to go for a trip to Vancouver. I enjoy your passion it gives me the itch to go for a vacation to the Westcoast. Keep the videos coming.

@@DownieLive No problem at all mate. Next time you are in the UK, you'll have to visit Birmingham, 2nd largest city in the UK after London where I'm based. Loads of great things to explore and shoot for content, we have the set locations where they film Peaky Blinders, Cadbury World (if you love chocolate), the Custard Factory and loads of canels where barges would pass through in the 1900's delivering trade from London and going up North. Let me know if you need a guide anytime! 👍
That's cool, the one thing i managed to do last year was explore all the nearby green spaces, no art hiding in them though, but was reason to get up and got me outside for a few hours. Longing for the days when freedom is back again and i can go further away.
Great! Thanks fore the treasure hunt. Go see Dartmouth, Nova Scotia this late July. There's lots of history there and Halifax was lively at night pre-covid. Hopefully, the pandemic will slow down a bit there by then.
Hi Mike! Thanks for another great video! Always nice to learn about new places to explore near to home! Careful when you're in Stanley Park, the coyotes are biting people! Yikes!
When I visited Vancouver back in November 2019, I went to few places with my friends. Honestly I loved all the places. It's so beautiful. I'm planning to visit again after the COVID situation get in to control. Hopefully we can meet and have a cup of coffee.
I'm a day late with my comment this week, but good to see you are keeping fit and well and finding ways to share with us some more of your home city given the lockdown conditions you currently experience. Melbourne is out of it's circuit breaker 5 day lockdown but couldn't have come at a worse time for our florist industry (Valentines Day rose trade trashed) and tied me down on my birthday, of all days. Now I recall almost losing the heels of one of my Blundstones while trekking around Stanley Park on the Sunday afternoon of Labor Day Weekend 2018. I was surprised that the only wildlife I encountered were Canada Geese and one solitary black squirrel. I didn't know about the big storm that wrecked parts of the park that you mention in the video. That must have really cleared a lot of the critters out. Sorry to hear that coyotes are going rogue there at the moment - the La Nina weather that your continent is experiencing must be making it hard for them to find food naturally. Now that I'm free to travel outside Melbourne again, I've been using my free public transport pass to do regional day return train trips for country lunches. Hoping your turn to escape (beyond Hope) comes soon. In the meantime, keep up your creativity in showing us more of what Vancouver has to offer beyond the usual tourist haunts. For example, what neighbourhoods have been invaded by friendly raccoons? I recall a mob of them on West 22nd Street when staying with a friend there in October 2018. I'm sure you will come up with some surprises. Cheers from Michael.
If you're going to Hope to see the caves, it's worth checking out the Othello tunnels too. They're obviously way more well known and popular, but it is a beautiful spot. I'd recommend going in the off-season, bad weather, weekday, etc to avoid the crowds.
