You just don't see them as a tourist staying in a hotel coz they're tucked away 8n back streets or out of the tourist areas. At night they make a bed in front of s9me office building. Construction workers live on site with their families.

I did two jobs down town. I was former security officer for a known company. Outside the window from a non profit, 1/2 block away from hastings and main a druggy came up the window and rolled up his sleeve and shot up some kind of drug. Another homeless man who was tall, was standing in the middle of the street totally unaware what he was standing on. He would walk slowly to a fire hydrant, bend over...then stare at it for 30 seconds while standing in the middle of the street. I was on another job and did some repairs to the weight room in what was a former museum at Hastings and main. The guys in that place were rough. Then that same day, did some repairs to another weight room where the up front cost to join was 60,000 dollars! It was up at the top of the city at highway one next to expensive homes.

I believe it is still the one .they are showing is the dreaded East Hasting street. If you have bronx in new york then vancouver has east hasting. But if you go further west you will be amazed with the beauty and splendour of the metropolis.
the sentiment is thoughtful, i live a few hours away from this location, its a notorious drug and crime area called (East Hasting) street, and researched this for quite sometime and this is simply not just poverty, this is also hardcore drug addiction, around a decade or so ago a synthetic tranquilizer for large animals that was never meant for humans was introduced by drug dealers to greatly increase the addiction, this opioid is called (fentanyl) So when mixed with other drugs it becomes quite toxic and very easy to overdose on and even die in more that a few cases, With the images in this video it looks like nothing is being done to combat this, but that is far from the truth, Vancouver has been spending millions annually on things like clean needles safe injection rooms out reach workers housing etc, so quite a bit, the real issue is the strength of these drugs, the addiction is so very bad that most addicts, as ridiculous as this sounds, they often refuse help and treatment to get clean and get off the streets and sadly choose to live on the streets and in filth, again its the addiction that does this, its the incredible high they get from fentanyl is all they care about, not bathing, not housing nothing else. and with relaxed laws about street people here they cannot be forced off the streets and into treatment, however since this opioid epidemic as they call it here is now in its 7th year Canadian leaders are starting to think of bring back forced treatment since just about everything else to combat this has failed.....
They aren't poor per se. They are addicted to drugs and instead of helping them with rehab so they can stop and be a productive members of society where they can work and not be poor, we give them more free drugs to 'help' them. All in the name of clean drugs to help them be alive and not died of overdose.

В 80 ые наш пассажирский лайнер заходил в порт Ванкувер! Мне было 20 лет,как хорош был этот город,какая чистота и порядок! Я не могу поверить,что такая деградация могла постигнуть эту страну !😢

Junkies and those homeless people are not poor. They can earn 1 million dollar and it will still only last for less than a month. More money = more and expensive drug. I get surprised when people hate legal immigrants coming in Canada to earn money by working hard while paying more taxes, but not the govt. or drug dealers who are born and raised in Canada yet help to ruin this country. Everything is too expensive nowadays that hard working citizen can't hope to save enough money to even buy a house unless they commit to around 30 years of mortgage. Being junkie and homeless is easy, as you get instant pleasure, and free place to live and govt. charge normal worker more taxes so they can build you a shelter. LOL Crumbling countries both Canada and US of America.

This is a post-pandemic worldwide crisis. We have the same problem in Australia but not as bad as in Canada and the US. It will take years to go back to the glory days.
We dont have it in Malaysia, thank god. We do have beggars but one was caught driving a brand new mid class SUV, but not before changing out of his uniform (hahaha). Most if not all beggars are foreigners.

I did two jobs down town. I was former security officer for a known company. Outside the window from a non profit, 1/2 block away from hastings and main a druggy came up the window and rolled up his sleeve and shot up some kind of drug. Another homeless man who was tall, was standing in the middle of the street totally unaware what he was standing on. He would walk slowly to a fire hydrant, bend over...then stare at it for 30 seconds while standing in the middle of the street. I was on another job and did some repairs to the weight room in what was a former museum at Hastings and main. The guys in that place were rough. Then that same day, did some repairs to another weight room where the up front cost to join was 60,000 dollars! It was up at the top of the city at highway one next to expensive homes.
We were there for Expo 86. It was nice and we saw King Tut. My dad said this would happen as soon as the expo was over. He was right!

the sentiment is thoughtful, i live a few hours away from this location, its a notorious drug and crime area called (East Hasting) street, and researched this for quite sometime and this is simply not just poverty, this is also hardcore drug addiction, around a decade or so ago a synthetic tranquilizer for large animals that was never meant for humans was introduced by drug dealers to greatly increase the addiction, this opioid is called (fentanyl) So when mixed with other drugs it becomes quite toxic and very easy to overdose on and even die in more that a few cases, With the images in this video it looks like nothing is being done to combat this, but that is far from the truth, Vancouver has been spending millions annually on things like clean needles safe injection rooms out reach workers housing etc, so quite a bit, the real issue is the strength of these drugs, the addiction is so very bad that most addicts, as ridiculous as this sounds, they often refuse help and treatment to get clean and get off the streets and sadly choose to live on the streets and in filth, again its the addiction that does this, its the incredible high they get from fentanyl is all they care about, not bathing, not housing nothing else. and with relaxed laws about street people here they cannot be forced off the streets and into treatment, however since this opioid epidemic as they call it here is now in its 7th year Canadian leaders are starting to think of bring back forced treatment since just about everything else to combat this has failed.....
They aren't poor per se. They are addicted to drugs and instead of helping them with rehab so they can stop and be a productive members of society where they can work and not be poor, we give them more free drugs to 'help' them. All in the name of clean drugs to help them be alive and not died of overdose.
