I always enjoy going to Ikebukuro more than Akiba tbh. The biggest Animate store is in Ikebukuro, there's fewer people and also my favorite Toranoana is there lol
No don't go to the top of Skytree at night. The windows are super reflective of the lighting inside and you can't take any decent pictures of the city without shrouding your lenses against the windows.
You missed the obligatory stop at Tsukiji Outer Market…..which is the tourist trap to end all tourist traps. Yes, we’ve done it, but have stopped going because it’s ridiculously overcrowded to the point where moving is difficult (similar to Nishiki in Kyoto).
I just finished making an itinerary last week and the places you listed are the same as those I've made lmao. The only difference was opting for Odaiba for Teamlabs and the night cruises instead of Disney. Yes, I'm a first-timer going to Japan. For my first trip, I wanna do the generic stuff and leave the off-the-beaten type stuff in my other visits.
Harajuku was underwhelmng. there was an interesting motorcycle place/restaurant?? there but not much else there. i still havent seen Gojira there... its on my list oneday if i can return. taking things slow at your own pace is very good. plan for 2-4 places to visit everyday but have a few other places to visit if you happen to check off the main sites quicker than planned.
3rd trip in 2 weeks within 1 year. What’s funny is I haven’t done any of those things that were mentioned. 2nd trip I winged it and made 0 plans it was fun and met 3 locals and this coming trip I will be hanging out with them. Sometimes not following the tourist hype is the best option
Ikebukuro is underrated for anime lovers. Especially for female anime fans, but good for everyone and lots of nice alt fashion and theme cafes too. Akihabara is very focused on specifically male anime fan demographic in comparison.
I like staying around Asakusa in Tokyo. Outside of Sensoji it's pretty chill and easy enough to get around the city and marginally cheaper as far as rooms go usually.
@@maydaysan my Airbnb is in Shibuya so I will definitely spend sometime there, but I want to also experience parts of Japan that are not excessively advertised.
Amigo....cool video great energy, top info..the way we Brazilians like. Secret to you: we were not so excited about Hakone and saying there for three days...but your video made us feel GREAT! Thanks
I have a trip coming up soon and Im staying in shibuya .. am I able to see all these sights if I stay there the whole time or is it better to move around to different hotels ??
Some friends and I have been planning a trip for early march-april for a while. Thinking of where we want to go and how long we want to explore the location for. This information is greatly appreciated 😆❤
Aloha I’m going for a week in April with a couple people and just looking at all the stuff I want to do I all ready know we messed up You need 4 weeks to really explore Japan
Covering most of this minus the day trips to Hakone and Yokohama. Staying in Asakusa for 7 nights in Jan. Ive got days in Jimbocho, Shimokitazawa and Edogawa.
I honestly really like Yokohama,it's really chill and pretty at sunset time, sitting on a bench and drinking something as you watch the night fall,it's a great city if u want nature and city life on a rest day!
I thought that maybe I should go to Takeshita Street for a full day, since I wanted to go to ACDC Rag, but maybe I should just go there for ACDC Rag and the Pompompurin Cafe :,) Although, Kiddy Land, a store with lots of Japanese toys and character goods is also in Harajuku, and if you like that stuff (like me), you should go there!
Lmao love it. I'm from Czechia with an American Pinoy fren who goes full weeb every now and then and AFAIK he straight up followed this guide through his sheer weebery even without having the chance to watch this video
@ every time that I been in Tokyo I find super suitable staying in Ueno… Near from Tokyo station, same for the train for the airport, near and easy to get any jr to Yokohama… Ueno very convenient for all visitors to find a nice prices hotels and food ufff same great to place for everything
I'm guessing OP might not be into streetwear because there is definitely some dope spots in Harajuku for exclusive sneakers and clothing. Just gotta know where to look!
The irony of showing "Ameyokocho" and calling it "non westernized" The ame in ameyokocho is literally from "America" Like I get his point, but it's still a funny image
Really appreciate your honest and humorous perspective! I don’t believe in taking a day off though. Especially for a trip as short as one week. Personally, I like to maximise the time & money put into a trip so I always plan a full itinerary with time to rest in the evening at the hotel. If I get back a good time and have a full 8 hours sleep, that is more than enough time to recuperate. However, looking on the Japan travel sub, it seems like those from North America will struggle with being on their feet a lot haha. I always see people asking about what kind of shoes or trainers to wear and I wonder if they do much walking besides going from their house to the car, then the parking lot to their destination 😅
After watching this I’m pretty happy I’m not doing any of this. Tailored my experience more towards experiencing the best of Japanese pro wrestling and House music.
Lot of the pro wrestling I’m doing in Tokyo during the new years. NOAH, NJPW, stardom, marigold. Those are the ones I’m checking out and given how many events going on I’m going to be pretty busy. Admittedly I did see someone mention TeamLab, yeah I’m doing that, but then I’m mainly focused on bespoke Japanese fashion and Pokemon cards so depending on locations, I don’t plan on checking out stuff like “the crossing” on purpose. Lot of stuff I like about Japan, but I’m not really into anime(retro Pokemon aside). Love the history. And for the “day trip out of Tokyo “ I’m going to try and go check out Nikkō, where Tokugawa Ieyasu is supposedly entombed and do some hiking. Oh and for the Techno/House. I’m planning on going to WOMB. If you’re into Techno/House, check them out. They bring out the big DJ’s

You left out Teamlabs! Gotta get that shot for your Insta or else nobody will know how cultured you are.
OMG I knew I forgot something!!!
To be fair anyone that doesn’t check out Planets is missing out. Borderless is really cool too. Just not the same sensory experience.
@ I wanna make a video about this

My 3rd trip and still don’t know what that is 😂 most likely because I’m not on social media just UA-cam

That is indeed a bummer :(
you are so criminally underrated man cant wait to be there with 1m subs
Thank you dude! Spread the word

I feel you! Those local connections are the best
My first trip to Japan was ONLY Tokyo and I was there 14 days. To be honest I cant imagine doing Shibuya, Shinjuku and Harajuku in one day.
I'm going to be in Tokyo and then venture out into the countryside.
Your videos seems interesting & new ( like condensed with information ) [good work]
Thank you!!!🙏 I took a leap
Of faith with theese

Yea actually in the original cut of this video I mentioned this!
The locals say „Akihabara cosplays loudly as the anime capital for tourists so that we can enjoy the real anime capital, Ikebukuro, in peace.“
Pour out the tea 😂😂😂😂. I spit out my coffee. Thank You I needed this
I’m staying in Shibuya in January lol… uh watching this is making me rethink some stuff 😂

Oh yeah in Shibuya you can do everything! Lots of access.
I'm adding your suggestions to my two week trip. You need to do an Osaka and Kyoto Nara version !!!

Aww man Hakone too nice though. Maybe stay in asakusa pro style ryokan for the experience anyway!
To be fair, I found more "Harajuku stuff" elsewhere than in Harajuku itself.
Like what stuff?
This video made me realize Yokohama isn't worth going out of the way for so heck ya, thanks!
