Floating Loft Bed

- The latest bedroom craze! Floating loft beds! I was absolutely skeptical at first but once complete it was nothing but success! The room was very small and I was terrified that a normal bed would consume over 1/2 of the room. Since the studs support the frame it doesn't have the normal 4 post minimizing the bulkiness. The floating style allows the room to feel spacious. I hated that our last loft bed was so dark underneath and this style allows so much natural light. This was super easy and saves so much space! If you enjoyed and want to follow along with my endless projects please subscribe.
How it Works:
It is a modern design and has been around for years. I understand this look is not for everyone. Some people must see to believe! 😉 This floating loft bed was anchored to 2x4s 16 on center wall framing. It must be anchored with lag screws into each stud to work.

With a tiny bedroom and little space for a large desk, this is exactly what I've been looking to do!
Excellent design with keep in mind for load distribution in low budget. 🙏🙏🙏
Awesome bed! I loved how you showed each step in detail, thank you!
Beautifully done. I love the steel/wood combo ladder!!
Absolutely awesome. I think I'll do this, add legs and cover bottom with plywood for lights. Appreciate the video. Great job.
Very impressed! You do great work! Can’t wait for more videos
We need an update. How’s this bed holding up almost a year later?
What an amazing concept!!! I am really loving it. Hope I could do this to my own home someday 😊
So simple and clever and inspirational. Thanks
I love that a woman such as myself who love to build created this video in such a clear and concise manner that all can understand and thus create, and such a sleek and stylish project. I'm floored, all I can say is cheers and bravo..!! Keep them coming, I pray you receive enough subscriptions to make you a popular channel, so I can watch it and learn all the time. Thanks, S
What was the size of the finished mattress area? Is the ladder the support for the outside
THIS IS AWESOME!!! Thank you! I LOVE that you are rocking this woman!!!!!!
brilliant design & crisp video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the work. Looks great.
This is the best video with ideas that suits me. And I’ve watched many.
Thank you sincerely…❤
Amazing idea! I'll definitely buy my tools in the near future.
Great final product! It looks awesome, nicely done.
Wow! Amazing job!
very nice congratulations.
thanks for your contributions! I M from Dominican Republic
Great work!
great idea and great work
However I suggest to load the bed with angle brackets instead of screwing the bolts. 2nd, use the pipe ladder to support the 4th angle( without the wall's support).
Amazing idea
This is by far the best looking loft bed I've seen and the best video, congratulations....
You did a fantastic job 😘
Beautiful work ❤️❤️
That looks awesome!
Grate job 💯👍
Thank you
Very nice work.
Brilliant!

This is awesomeness, done a more than a few of mid sleepers for my kids and nephews. Cool vido
This is awesome. 👌 i love your idea. Kudos.
Thank You!
subscribed. very nice video. you make it look easy!
Sensacional!!!! parabéns
You are so smart!
Love it
Interesting, how much wait it could take!! I doubt it has that much stability and could fell down very dramatically! :(
exactly 😒
awesome!
I love this idea... only thing I would do differently is make ladder completely from pipe, just a preference.👍
Absolutely love this. I started a DIY page today. These are so much fun.
Thank you very much! Good luck on your DIY page! Inspire as many people as you can!!! :)
A&A Inspire absolutely. That’s what I’ve always tried to do.
Good stuff
Probably one of the best looking DIY beds I have seen on here, great job! Only thing I would be concerned with though is the ladder screws being in the side of the bed rail rather than underneath the corner, screws are strong but can shear and that is the corner that will get the most abuse.
Hey. Thanks for the video. I am making one of these for my daughter for Christmas. Are those 2x6's for the frame? What length screws did you use? Thanks
Absolutely loved your video. I definitely gave you a big old thumbs up and hit the subscribe button. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Apologies for the dark ending!!! Not sure what happened :)
Thank you for the video.i hope I will make this for myself.
The frame is 2×8?
This is a good video. I should subscribe! Thank you.
Nice and GI pipes & accessories are best chosen. One suggestion would be to avoid one flange of guard towards ladder by making common by replacing elbow by Tee.
Great video! How high was the ladder at the top 90 degree elbows?
Hi i love the design its very minimum and modern but i was wondering is there any sagging issue in the long run?
3 Pocket screws on the corners will shear under load, same reason you use lag screws in the studs instead of wood screws. Either add a post on the corners and secure with lag screws, or at least a bracket. The ladder is insufficient as structural support with just 4 wood screws per leg, it’s also only on one side. There are only 3 pocket screws supporting the smaller side of the frame. Another bracket would help transfer the load to the side with the stairs. But you still need a more solid structure for the ladder. As you note, it’s flimsy to begin with. Put enough load on the ladder and the stairs will buckle in the middle. As a mechanical engineer, this does not get a seal of approval.
This is, however, a great starting point. Just some more structure required.
do you think this would be sturdy enough for a full size bed (75in x 54in)?
Nice
Is that screwing the panels on the wall enough to carry the self weight of the bed and the load on it..??
Great video! I just have a couple of questions after watching this... How big was the panel for the headboard? At what height did you mount the bed? Thank you! Subscribed :)
Muito bom ótimo 👍 Brasil
Thanks for that....I am just drawing up plans to build a floating bed (size = full) for my self as I live in a small apartment.. what are the dimensions of your daughters bedroom please include
L,B,H including celing to mattress (head room) and under bed to floor....
In the uk our rooms are 8ft celing to floor...
Much love from Alford aberdeenshire Scotland uk.
I'm not familiar with UK building codes. This was anchored according to framing building codes in the United States. I don't have a clue what they are in the UK and highly recommend you check what you have and see if it will work. In the United States there are 2x4 studs in the wall 16" on center. It has to be anchored to every stud in order for this to work. I do not have all the exact measurements at the moment and will get them to you as soon as I can. The ceiling to floor is 8ft with the bed placed in the middle. So it sits about 4ft high. equal space on top and bottom. The frame and mattress is about 8" thick (depending on your mattress size this will be different.) Before I built this I put tape on the floor outlining the dimensions of a standard twin mattress. Then placed tape half way up the wall (length and width of the mattress) sounds stupid but definitely gave me a good visual of what to expect before even trying it! Most definitely check on the framing in the UK. I have seen videos online for this style for larger sizes mattress and that maybe more helpful for your needs! I hope this helped! :)
The screws in the flanges on the top of the ladder are the only things keeping that bed from crashing to the floor on the outer corner. NOT SAFE in my opinion.
I know right? What size bolts did they use.
Hi nice piece, what size is the bed and how much weigh can it hold???
Where did you get the galvanized pipes?
The wall mounted part is a bit secured but the corner part; the pipes connected by screw in wood panels as support? It may not last for long. I won't let my daughter to sleep to one. However the concept is good and could be improved.
Any ideas on the total weight limit on this bed?
Do you have a parts list? What size board did you use for the frame?
A priceless woman
I would have added washers to those lag bolts.
Buen trabajo, hasta cuanto peso ajustaría?
Can u list measurement of woods?
How would you do this if your walls are concrete?
What is the maximum weight capacity of this bed?
What kind of lumber you using?
Really nice job I guess the latter in the front to the left of the bed is like legs for the bed so the other three sides have support good job, love it looks really good, attractive, good taste, and it looks very secure and safe ,I mean if you were over 300 lb maybe not, but children yeah it's good for your kids it's good for me okay have a great day🤗🤗🤗🤗
what size bed is it?
What kind of wood did you use love?
how much weight would it hold?
Pocket holes and wood glue?
Question, please? HOW, exactly, did you screw the final 2 pieces? 3? Of mattress-slats to the frame? Where was your body? Did you fly up there + hover above???
Nice clean concept, great execution!!
Is your floor timber?
What is the weight limit on it? It seems like it couldn’t hold much more than 100lbs
DOPE
is that safe even if you don't use toks
How much for material? And was any metal used
Great job but I wouldn't recommend this to hold 175 or heavier doesn't look to sturdy
How much load can this hold?
Using french cleats would simplify this project greatly
I am doing this for my channel but with legs poles under
I don't think it's safe enough :3
That's an opinion not a fact.
The design is not safe from the engineering point of view. Two weak points: screws attaching the ladder to the side board needs to be replaced by bolts going all the way through the side board and reinforced by a backplate. As this point has to carry entire weight of a person (plus dynamic load). Has to be designed to carry 500lb at least… Also the frame has to be reinforced as the corners (especially one at the right side of the headboard) can be subjected to the full load as well. And 3 pocket screws are not sufficient to hold it.
Please consider it as “purely decorative”.
costing and materials pls ❤️
Cool idea, but structually it seems like a death trap? No continuous structure through the ladder, or pole holding the corner up? If someone runs into the ladder it would just fold, and the bed Come crashing down. Take care
I'm thinking the metal poles being fastened into the floor are quite a solid support and structurally as sound as some sort of beam.
Please come with facts not opinions. Seems like a death trap doesn't mean it is. SMH
Could this be done with a king sized bed?
My dad tried it with a CalKing bed, he passed away the same day he slept on it
How much weight can it take ????
What's the weight limit on that?
Can you build me one love it
i wish o hve tools yo do it
Wow nice floating loft bed..what a man can do also a woman can do it much better as well..i salute you..new subscriber here
