I know spicy is not your thing but you can't leave Penang without having Nasi Kandar. Don't go to Hameediyah even though it's good, but they've already got so much coverage. Go to Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu (kinda close to the temple up in the hill), which is not so well known even among non-Penang Malaysians. They could use your support (but go early in the morning. Like 7am)

The Chendol at Penang Lane is of the traditional type and this is 1 of the better ones in Malaysia.
The Nyonya Chendol in Melaka is of the newer version or in another word may be called the ‘hybreed’ . There are also many new versions of chendol which may vary in ingredients and taste in dessert shops, and it’s depending on the ‘inventors creactivity.
Thus, need to compare appleto apple ... separate judgment for the traditional and the new versions. ✌

Omg the carrot cake looks delicious! I have visited Penang a couple of times! That apom looks very different than the Apoms we have in Klang Valley, The best thing bout Malaysia is we love our food and every state does it differently! Where I am from the best Apom in Klang (Love Mom Restaurant) when eaten fresh out of the pan it is crispy on the edges and the middle is a creamy coconut pancake like texture!
I don’t really like Cendol 🤣 I prefer Ice Kacang/ABC which is another well known Malaysia shaved ice dessert next to cendol.
btw!~ I love watching your video because you are honest with what you like and don’t like! You are still quite forgiving for the food that didn’t taste good 😅

The Lo bak has minced pork, with some chopped prawn, chives and some five spice. It is wrapped with bean curd sheet. To me the best poppia should have a good dried prawn flavour. Usually have jicama and less of cabbage as part of the filling.
That cendol is the original version. Its ok if you don't like certain food because different people will have different taste buds. Keep it up and just be honest..be yourself...you're travelling and eating not to please other people. We appreciate your reviews.

While I understand that different parts of the world may lump in different foods to a certain name there is a big difference. Shrimp have one pair of legs that include claws at the end, but prawns have three pairs with claws. Prawns also tend to have legs that are a bit longer in relation to the size of the body than shrimp of similar size. Shrimp and prawns are completely different creatures. Yes, they're both decapods - which means they have external skeletons and 10 legs - but that's where the similarities end. Shrimp belong to the sub-order Pleocyemata, and prawns belong to the sub-order Dendrobranchiata... I know too much info!!...but just pointing out that there is a actual difference and why some areas of the world classify them as different and call them by a given name. Just in case you ever get on a game/quiz show.😄 Have a great day and enjoy your food wherever you are and whatever you call it.😋

This one in Penang is the traditional version which a lot people want to taste the original cendol. The one in Melaka is the newer version which has gone high tech with added in durians, mango and ice cream which certain people might prefer only tasting durian or ice cream on its own. I even came across one cendol stall in KL where they put in famous local fruits like rambutan, langsat and mangosteen which twisted the traditional taste of cendol totally out of proportion.

The Melaka cendol you had is not common.... that one is more like an upgraded version, with ingredients and cost as well. The runny one is the one you would find most places. And the runny watery bit is coconut milk. What makes a good cendol is the gula melaka, or the brown sugar they put in it. The good ones are really fragrant and tasty. The main ingredient in Popiah is jicama... not cabbage. And do ignore the haters... they will hate on anything. It's ok not to like something if you don't.

I've lived in Vietnam for over 4 years and I don't like a lot of Vietnamese food, I like strong flavours such as Indian curries - that's just my taste. Of course its fine for others to like different things, people shouldn't be getting upset about it. Opinions and taste make the world go around.

I think the half boiled eggs with bread is tasteless? If yes, usually the local will add some seasoning where you can see lots of light black soy sauce and pepper on the dining tables. We will add some on the eggs and mixed around before we eat together with the bread or we will dip the bread with the eggs and eat together 😁

I love it like that - but yes I should add some more sometimes!

The one that u hv in melaka is not original, they already add all other fruits and ice cream. The cendol in penang is the original type, its serve with shreaded ice, coconut milk ( in Malaysia they call it Santan) brown sugar (we called it Gula Melaka) and the green thing that u call it green noodle is actually a mix flour and pandan colour that call it Cendol.

I do believe that the variation of foods that we had throughout the whole Malaysia even though it’s the same name is to cater the local taste bud. You are allowed to have your own opinion on food just like everyone else.

It’s really OK not to like some Malaysian dish or the one from any particular vendor. Even we ourselves disagree with each other’s taste. For example I’m from the East coast so mamak food culture like the famous nasi kandar is just so-so for me but give me nasi kerabu nasi padang or Thai food anyday.
