I'm sorely tempted by the Hawk but at the moment the gameplay loop it's intended for is in need of further development. The same goes for the Stalker (and the Cutlass Blue) and it extends pretty much every loop going. The Hawk is high on my list but I'm of the inclination to wait for the profession to see a decent pass over. While the Stalker has a bigger cargo capacity, it simply hasn't won my heart like the Hawk has. As it stands the profession is limited to kill orders. Hopefully this changes in future but for a straight up kill order I suspect that players will look at the alternative offerings. As a side note, I'd love to see a rework of controls in Star Citizen to allow for better management of fire groups and utility items such as EMP's and Quantum Dampers.
using a liberator filled with stalkers & hawks and its cargo bays repurposed for containment would be an insane prison ship for a couple of dudes being bounty hunters

Would be cool if the Carrack hangar could fit either one of these and have one of the modules work as a prison containment. At least these can land in the Hangar even if not carried.

But the project isn't done yet and there is still time and room to deliver ship modularity. I'd also like to know why the Cutlass Blue prisoner pods are so much larger than the Stalker pods.
Cause the cutlass isn't specifically built for bounty hunting. The blue version had the same pods as the caterpillar prisoner transport. They're basically made to be put on cargo bays, but are bigger and take up more space

23:21 Yes! I'm 100% in agreement. And when I first saw that MOLE with its 16 bags, I calculate that a modified MOLE was capable of transporting 128 prisoner pods. I had dreams of owning a fleet of these prisoner transport barges that would travel at intervals in a circuitous route around the Stanton system, picking up captured prisoners that had been deposited at my outpost bounty holding stations. Risk/reward gameplay at its most intense, if outlaws can sneak past my stealth fighter or hammerhead escorts.
The UEE disolved it’s contract with Aegis and made Anvil it’s primary supplier… as an Anvil fanboy that hurts to hear as both Aegis as well as even RSI provide more military ships than Anvil.
Right around the time you mentioned the advent of prison barges and bounty hunter orgs my mind went straight to the Trandoshan hunters we in saw in The Clone Wars
Your videos are great. I hope they implement the prison barge concept, it makes complete sense. Also, I can imagine missions of freeing a prisoner from said barge.
Small addition: the stalker can be made into quite an effective stealth ship, rivalling a stealth fitted sabre in that regard. Doesnt work for the hawk, since the EMP draws alot of power.
To be completely honest I expect a few things to happen. For one, when the bounty hunting improvements hit next year if they do we are going to see a few things happen. Bounty Hunter ship rebalance. Bounty Hunter starter packs and prof of concept on the missions. I wouldn't buy either of these ships right now based on what they might do. Just on what they do. Operating under that premise I would get the hawk. Mainly because it looks cool. Stalker outside isnt bad but to be honest the crud covered cockpit of the stalker is meh for me. Also at the moment the insides of the I just feel like the Hawk looks more sleek. What I mean to say is the Hawk has a niche. Its emp and double light fuel tank give it range. It also while lacking missiles has a very decent hardpoint layout for weapons. It can operate alone or in a group and shine in both scenarios. The stalker on the other hand has kind of weird roll. Its weapons and combat speed are decent but it overall for a multi bounty transport I just dont see why you would pick it over the cutlass blue. The blue has better shields, bigger guns, more missiles, a turret, more interior space, better shielding, longer range, and even with prison pods from what we can see of dimension it might even be able to support light ground vehicles without completely blocking your prisoner bay. I understand the stalker is much cheaper but honestly for the roll it fills I I feel like the cutty blue does it all better. I think the stalker will get an overhaul to his interior eventually. Its and older ship and doesn't have the new building blocks ui in the cockpit to my knowledge. Also like stated above I really do think we are probably going to see some sleek new ship when the bounty hunting missions get their overhaul. CIG isn't dumb and bounty hunting seams to be something they want to dip into early. Its interesting, fun, and who doesn't want to run around cosplaying like mando (I can hear the "This is they way" and "I have spoken" already). The point is this is probably going to be something they use to really draw people in so expect them to have ships and packages to benefit from that draw. Also CIG we gonna need that uh... Well I'm not sure what its called but that big ole rife mando runs around with... yea... we need that. You know, the one that just leaves smoking clothing behind? That one. It also apparently has a stun feature. Perfect.
Agreed! And i'd like also to add that, while the Stalker has already gone trough one major overhaul, the Hawk hasn't changed since it's launch in 2017, so it will see it's overhaul most probably near the bounty hunting patch.
Honestly, for the sole reason that I can take 5 more prisoners in the Stalker than the Hawk AND have an additional bed for logging off (instead of just one place to both store a single prisoner or log off) I gotta pick the Stalker as my primary.
Gotta say this is a really good video, I like the in depth and longform nature. Most ship guides are just 10 minute quickies. If I didn't already have a Cutty Blue, you'd have convinced me to get a Stalker.
The only thing I dont get about the Hawk is its rediciously slow roll speed of 135 d/s... that makes no sense to me considering all the other numbers are quite high (speed, max speed, pitch, yaw). Even the base Hornet variants and the Glaive/Scythe have a faster roll.
Glad to see you back, especially with such a good video. Now specifically about this video. I love my Hawk. A few upgrades and it's just a blast to fight in, but honestly, there's just something about that Chunky folding bird that I can't get enough of.
the hawk feels more like a light support fighter than a bounty hunter ship in my opinion. The hawk feels to have a shorter range not by fuel but by lack of interior storage that allows a place to eat/drink(the stalker you can sit on the bed to eat) and sleep. Nice vid, these are some of my fav vids. keep it up.
Let's not forget the smaller bay for prisoners. The Avenger is definitely meant to be a much heavier fighter compared to the Hawk. Meanwhile, the hawk is almost a high value hunter with emp and one bay for prisoners.

That being said, I get the same feeling from watching your videos that I do while visiting a museum. Beautiful scenery, relaxing if not a bit too static. Your channel, your style, it's great and relaxing as-is, but I personally think your videos would benefit with a few animated/action sequences peppered in here and there. Keep up the good work. This review was awesome! At first, I thought of getting the Stalker but I may go with the Hawk instead, due the default loadout and the EMP :) Going back and forth after each bounty would be a pain in the ass, but still a lot less than losing a ship full of bounties! :P
Great analysis as always, only thing I can say in criticism is that there are going to (eventually) be two variants for the Hawk. The ShadowHawk being stealth oriented will be verrrrry interesting in my opinion, something of a kidnapping ninja
Not related to the video but what are your thoughts on the crucible? Can't decided between that or the reclaimer. I know opposite ends of the job but not sure how needed a crucible would be outside of just org repairs.
I personally fell in love with the Crucible way back when it was first put up for sale. The biggest issue that I can see between it and the Reclaimer is that the Salvage mechanics are going to be worked on first and then repair is going to developed some time after that. So as long as we've been waiting for Salvage gameplay we're going to have to wait even longer before the Crucible has any game play functionality.
There are existing ships that, due to built in modularity, would neatly double as a prison barge with the addition of specialised modules: Caterpillar Carrack Retaliator Or with the ability to fit cells into existing cargo grids: Hammerhead Starfarer/Gemini
I want to use the Mercury Star Runner as a bounty hunting ship. Mostly as a transporter, going after planetside bounties. Good scanner, floor view cockpit, bottom turret, vtol, internal space for prison pods ♥️
Well obviously the best choice is the more expensive one! 💰. Seriously the Stalker looks like a minivan but that works for it since you can carry more. You could even take 'bounties' on delivery boxes! 😉. The only win I would get to the Hawk is it probably can disable a ship faster / better without blowing it up. Oh and the Hawk let you pretend you're Batman easier. 🦇♂️
Also, rumors would have us believe that the Polaris is going to have a brig. That makes a lot of sense if you factor in it's small hangar. The Hawk or Stalker could hail for landing and transfer custody from the safety of the sealed hangar. Here's hoping its true.
Bounty hunting is one of the things I'm most excited about but I have a lot of concerns. Such as people who just go around blowing up parked ships if your target isn't in an armistice zone. How do you move incap targets, is your only option to drag them. I'm hoping they add options to add pods to other ships as I have a Cutlass black. I wonder if land vehicles that can transport incaped people will be available so you can park your ship somewhere safe and bring the target back in a timely manner. I don't know if any of this has already been adressed as I haven't been keeping up with development and this video is oldish.
@@andrewg4412 Funny story about my cutlass. I messed up in a fight against two AI cutlass and I couldn't control my ship anymore. Got out of the seat with all sorts of noise from my hull getting pelted and I jumped out the side door. When my ship blew up the AI turned off basically and just floated there. I floated over to one of their ships and apparently they don't lock their doors so I got in, killed the pilot and shot down the other ship with the now stolen cutlass. Couldn't get the gunner out and game crashed before I could find out if it would fight other people for me. You don't need to win in a straight fight all the time. Also I meant the pods used for holding bounties not escape pods.
The hawk is a ship I really want to have because it reminds me abit of the Star Fox ships and the fact I can lose my wings and still fly is pretty crazy I might pick it up later this year
I wonder what will happen if you can capture a player bounty and just keep them locked up. That would suck for them. I could just keep people offline essentially. I hope once you get into a player ownes prison pod you just end up in actual prison straight away and its just a copy/corpse thing left in the players ship.
@@narojdebesteI found out they have said about maybe being able to choose to stay captured to get out or maybe be rescued by a friend or go straight to prison and have a npc of your character stay with the hunter for the reward. Not sure if that's still the plan. Cant wait to fill up my cutlass blue either way

Is there a real non role play benefit to having a mess hall or place to eat? Does it provide free nutrition or something whereas if you don't have one you have to bring food with you?
also I wonder what recharge time on emp is.. if you see the ship. you can just know you have to fire 2 missiles spaced appropriately to account for the first one getting zapped.
Hey Law, have you ever thought of doing a Vs's between the Arrow and the Gladius? I've seen a few but none of them go into the detail you do and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it :)
funny thing is that I was working on doing a comparison between those two ships, then stopped after they decided to nerf the Arrows shields. I held off doing any more work on that concept because they were obviously messing around with the Arrow and I wanted to see if those changes were going to end up being permanent or not. So I decided to give it some time to wait and see. I have plans on doing a Gladius VS Blade video first but I might come back to the Arrow VS Gladius idea at some point.
I've had a series of mishaps hit me one after another, and then Hurricane Sally struck us dead on destroying my house and everything I own. It's all good though, just going to take me a little more time to get on my feet again. ; )
My prediction: the hawk will become an extremely popular and effective pirate ship. Why? Cause three hawks could circle a freelancer and pop their emp's, disabling it. At that point you just off the pilot and take the whole damn ship. The fact that it's faster than almost any other ship means easy escapes, very important for pirates.

Do you prefer EMP or QT dampening? Both are faster, both are incomparably more maneuverable. Hawk has a small profile. Hitting it is like throwing a string in the general direction of a needle and hope it pass right in the hoop.

@@shrimpdragon1353 at the moment you can buy ships with alpha UEC but there’s a couple of things to keep in mind 1. Some ships although fully flight ready can’t be purchased with UEC 2. There’s no definitive answer whether or not ships purchased with current AUEC will remain yours in the long run. that’s honestly about it for now!

For solo bounty hunting, I'd also throw in the Super Hornet, since the second seat can be used as a lock down seat for bounty's.

I've read the Super Hornet can be used for bounties in the future by turning the second seat into a prisoner one.

You could even take 'bounties' on delivery boxes! 😉. The only win I would get to the Hawk is it probably can disable a ship faster / better without blowing it up. Oh and the Hawk let you pretend you're Batman easier. 🦇♂️
Also, rumors would have us believe that the Polaris is going to have a brig. That makes a lot of sense if you factor in it's small hangar. The Hawk or Stalker could hail for landing and transfer custody from the safety of the sealed hangar. Here's hoping its true.

Bounty hunting is one of the things I'm most excited about but I have a lot of concerns. Such as people who just go around blowing up parked ships if your target isn't in an armistice zone. How do you move incap targets, is your only option to drag them. I'm hoping they add options to add pods to other ships as I have a Cutlass black. I wonder if land vehicles that can transport incaped people will be available so you can park your ship somewhere safe and bring the target back in a timely manner. I don't know if any of this has already been adressed as I haven't been keeping up with development and this video is oldish.

@@andrewg4412 Funny story about my cutlass. I messed up in a fight against two AI cutlass and I couldn't control my ship anymore. Got out of the seat with all sorts of noise from my hull getting pelted and I jumped out the side door. When my ship blew up the AI turned off basically and just floated there. I floated over to one of their ships and apparently they don't lock their doors so I got in, killed the pilot and shot down the other ship with the now stolen cutlass. Couldn't get the gunner out and game crashed before I could find out if it would fight other people for me. You don't need to win in a straight fight all the time.
Also I meant the pods used for holding bounties not escape pods.
The hawk is a ship I really want to have because it reminds me abit of the Star Fox ships and the fact I can lose my wings and still fly is pretty crazy I might pick it up later this year

Of course they'd have to adjust the entry/exit mechanic as well.

I wonder what will happen if you can capture a player bounty and just keep them locked up. That would suck for them. I could just keep people offline essentially. I hope once you get into a player ownes prison pod you just end up in actual prison straight away and its just a copy/corpse thing left in the players ship.
Or maybe they have to deliver you to the prison to claim the bounty
@@narojdebesteI found out they have said about maybe being able to choose to stay captured to get out or maybe be rescued by a friend or go straight to prison and have a npc of your character stay with the hunter for the reward. Not sure if that's still the plan. Cant wait to fill up my cutlass blue either way

also I wonder what recharge time on emp is.. if you see the ship. you can just know you have to fire 2 missiles spaced appropriately to account for the first one getting zapped.

Hey Law, have you ever thought of doing a Vs's between the Arrow and the Gladius? I've seen a few but none of them go into the detail you do and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it :)
funny thing is that I was working on doing a comparison between those two ships, then stopped after they decided to nerf the Arrows shields. I held off doing any more work on that concept because they were obviously messing around with the Arrow and I wanted to see if those changes were going to end up being permanent or not. So I decided to give it some time to wait and see. I have plans on doing a Gladius VS Blade video first but I might come back to the Arrow VS Gladius idea at some point.

so the hawk can carry only one well the bounty on 1 will be a lot less then a bounty on 4 so for me the Stalker is better for the money as they say.

I am looking forward to capturing bounty targets. I have all the bounty hunting ships to try when the time comes.
My prediction: the hawk will become an extremely popular and effective pirate ship.
Why? Cause three hawks could circle a freelancer and pop their emp's, disabling it. At that point you just off the pilot and take the whole damn ship. The fact that it's faster than almost any other ship means easy escapes, very important for pirates.

EMP, maneuverability.
Do you prefer EMP or QT dampening? Both are faster, both are incomparably more maneuverable. Hawk has a small profile. Hitting it is like throwing a string in the general direction of a needle and hope it pass right in the hoop.
What I don't like from avenger family is that the cockpit dashboard looks old

@@shrimpdragon1353 at the moment you can buy ships with alpha UEC but there’s a couple of things to keep in mind 1. Some ships although fully flight ready can’t be purchased with UEC 2. There’s no definitive answer whether or not ships purchased with current AUEC will remain yours in the long run. that’s honestly about it for now!
