The sabre has some advantage in being able to load 2 size 4 missiles while being a very stealthy ship. This means it can hit hard and far before it is detected, and then pounce on the crippled and confused enemy before they recover.
Watched this again, decided to switch my Super Hornet to the Saber during the Expo this year. Always appreciate your vids. I enjoyed the one where you talked about synergy between ships in the Carrack alternate run about vid. I was reminded of that one recently as I noticed most reviews on the Nomad miss/minimize the synergy between the Nomad and ROC as the smallest ship available for ROC transport....
after some time to test, are you happy with the change? i have a super, and it is good, but it is sluggish on the turns, plus, that sabre looks V nice.
I've also watched this video 3 times and I still plan to upgrade my F7C to the F7C-M super hornet. My play style is having lots of guns and slugging it out so the hit and run style of the sabre isn't for me :)
@@slyderace well now saber get 1 shield less... well... it doesnt have that avantage anymore. And the new S4 you can mount on hornet make it mean ^^ as much firepower as a vanguard.
I really like the hornet. I have equipped mine with 3xS3 gatlings to shred small ships and ground vehicles. On the roof I have a S4 turret with the ballistic C-788 cannon that shoots armor piercing HE rounds that have a significant explosive payload with splash damage. This weapon oneshots light fighters if they happen to get hit, but it also punches holes in large ships that can't dodge it. I also like this cannon loadout because it's awesome for close air support. It demolishes ground vehicles and troops, especially since you don't have to even land a direct hit on small infantry targets. The damage per shot is also good, meaning that you don't have to hover around the combat zone, but can instead strafe it really fast and get 2-3 shots in. The slow fire rate also means that you can focus on being evasive and only line up a shot for a split second.
Another trick the Super Hornet has that you touched on is what I call the 'Super Tracker.' Take as much of the Tracker's sensor and C&C gear as possible and graft it onto the Super Hornet. This allows the backseater to concentrate on coordinating the Hornet's allies and letting the pilot worry about flying and fighting instead of risking task saturation by forcing them to do too much at once. (IMO, the Tracker should have been a 2-seater from the beginning.)
Absolutely adore your VS’s episodes. As an owner of both ships, you really brought a new light and perspective to these beautiful two medium fighters. Great job Law! 👍
I had 500+ hours in DCS world before I went over to SC. I can tell you, in the hands of a skilled pilot, the Sabre is unbeatable, especially planetside. Using real world techniques such as terrain masking, pincer high and low formations, flying attack runs out of the sun (you basically line up to approach from the sun, yes real world tactic and yes it works in SC because you can't see your UI when the sun is in your face.) With a little bit of training and technique the Sabre rewards pilot skill more than any other fighter. Add stealth to the mix and it's over.
One again, a perfect balance between crushing numbers, tactical analysis and lore. Everything is clear and explained in the the most soothing voice on YT. Thanks, Law!
I tip my hat to you sir. The way you compare ships is the most detailed and thorough that I have seen over anyone else. The extra detail, especially about the little things, really helps when trying to find my next new ship.
The issue with a weak hull is that when physicalized components become a thing you'll have to rely on the hope that they aren't using ballistics or hard-hitting shield piercers. If your saber's shields, power plant or coolers get smashed you're effectively dead if the other pilot has enough skill.
Fantastic video! Please keep making VS videos they really help people think about how to spend their hard earned real world money. You sir are a true Star Citizen hero. Thank you!
Really a very well explained video. I have absolutely nothing to criticize. I also really like the fact that you explain the position of the ships they will take in the future and not which meta it is currently based on. By the way, I also like the calm voice with which you explain everything. Keep up the good work. 👍 Greetings from Germany
Such a good video. I melted my Super Hornet ages ago as I hardly ever find myself in combat. But this video got me like "I need to buy it back!" I would love to see a "Forgotten Ships" video. Where you look at ships like the Retaliator, the Herald, maybe some Mustangs, or any other ships that are in game, but hardly used, why aren't they used much, are they under rated, should they be used more for specific roles?
I have both and i just like the SH better. Great review! very well done! I can't wait for armor to be fully implemented to really see how these two match up.
Excellent comparison! I just got an upgrade package from the Comet to the Defender... but I might actually just get another Comet. I like the stealth aspect and style - but the Defender's range, copilot, and BED is a serious plus as well.
This is why I just have both, at least until I can trade the super in for a F7A. But in game I prefer rocking the Sabre with the full gimble load-out. The Sabre's shields are no joke and she packs a hard punch.
I wish the wildfire was named the Spitfire. With the vanguard being inspired off of the P-38, throwing in the name Spitfire on a hornet variant would have been cool.
Great comparison video, LotW! Much appreciated. The only point I'd argue with is your comparison of the Super Hornet to the Y-wing. I think that spot is reserved for the Gladiator, since the Y-wing was considered the Rebellion's fighter/bomber. ;) I've always preferred the Super Hornet over the Sabre, but agree they are both really awesome ships.

Great video as always, very accurate comparisons. I own both and once armor and stealth are actually implemented then both of these ships will be amazing. The other draw back currently are the nose cone shield holes, both ships have bad shield holes. However it doesnt make them unplayable... just have to be more attentive while in combat.
For a long time it’s been Sabre > SH. Perhaps with turret and armor buffs this will change. But I think right now ... the Sabre is the space superiority fighter and it’s not close.
Love my Sabre. It's the only ship that got me to melt my Gladius, cause I'm a sucker for stealth gameplay, and it looks like every 16-bit space fighter ever thrown into a blender.
Sabre has now officially reclaimed it's position ad the shield hole is fixed! No news on the Hornets yet maybe they will continue to suck until armor system.
@@cyphereternal2308 I remember seeing a patch note talking about the hornet getting its shield holes fixed but it still seems it is there as well. Maybe they haven't made it into the PU yet. Or maybe they were using ballistics but looked like lasers
I haven't noticed that, but I've only fought them in AC. But my little Arrow wasn't doing enough damage to actually take down the shields on the Sabre. I was farming it for points, though lol
Lol. Never noticed. But then I don't do a lot of fighting. It's all relative though. As long as you don't have a way of bypassing shields, I've found basically nobody can hurt my 600i. Of course, comparing a large ship to a fighter is unfair... But hey, tank is tank... XD I swear I've been assaulted by about 7-8 AI ships at once and I can just sit there not moving and they rarely seem to get the shields below 90% Players are another matter because the ones that fight know tend to know the exploits better. (currently against a ship like a 600i that's an all ballistic loadout), but even then... You have to be determined, and have the right equipment to stand a chance... Not that I can hurt you back if you're flying a fighter (size 5 fixed can't hit the broad side of a barn) but still.
Currently, yes. It will be interesting to see how well it performs when: Armour is added, Physicalized damage is added, the ability for Kinetics to properly penetrate shields and armour is added.
I own a Super Hornet. At the moment, I wouldn't recommend it. The Super Hornet as a prominent shield hole on the front around the chin turret, which can lead to the ship rapidly being blown up even by small guns. Additionally, the Super Hornet's defining trait - armor and survivability, are not yet modeled, so she feels rather fragile. I would recommend buying a Saber at the moment. Its superior maneuverability, strong shields, and better meta compatibility make it, at the moment, the better ship. Additionally, the Saber is cheaper than the Super Hornet, meaning you can always upgrade to a Super Hornet later if/when they fix its problems.
interceptors are a class of fighter also. small nitpick but light fighters are not always interceptors. and we very much going to require interceptors and "tacklers" when it comes to interdiction. beyond that yea they the top two medium fighters, nice to have two viable choices. we see how armor sorts out, i almost think we been carrying the weight anyway on the ship and adding it not going to change it that much vs whatever numbers they faked, how they supposed to tweak its flight model if its weight is going to drastically change and invalidate its thrustors?
Hey mate I have a question... You said the Sabre can go from top speed to full stop without overheating, yet with my upgraded Sabre this seems impossible. I equppied only arguably better components which made me somewhat dissappointed in not being able to accelerate or stop without overheating. So are you talking about the stock loadout during the comparison? Also, Which loadout would you recommend for both ships (I actually only care for the Sabre tbh)? Regarding the Armorsystem not being implemented neither is Stealth so kinda unfair... Both have a system that isnt ingame yet...
Used to own the super hornet but after trying the sabre during an event i traded it in instantly. So much speed and those over clocked panthers just eat through anything D:
West, QUESTION,using military parts like example shield? Has less HP , Than industry shields. So why would use military part. I understand about the Sabre and stealth parts, but should I upgrade too industrial shields, pwr supply , coolers and engines.
because not all ships can use industrial components. Industrial components will have a high output, low wear and very high emissions. While military components are going to be the best overall at doing what they do.
you forgot 1 thing. in the hornet if you lose a wing you lose a gun if you lose both wings your really gona be handicapped with the saber thats not a problem.
Sabre is a dangerous ambush apex predator. The super hornet is the drunk Irish gypsy who walks around the pub dropping his shoulder into people as he walks past hoping they engage.

i am more a brawler ,so the hornet suits me beter ,yea laak of armor is a big issue now ,but i like to fly the hornet ,and i completly agree whit the viper and the xwing feal of the ship, but the sabre is good ship also for a hit and run operations, love the video
It has been years and they still haven't messed with the armor system, would think that would be a vital mechanic for SQ42.
Why don’t you have 100K subscriber’s yet?!?! You should!
Decisions....i have both ;). BTW.. the intro music is just smooth and relaxing..
RakasansLegacy which one you gonna fly into combat?
@@OvargasSecurity Good question. Very situational or whatever I'm flying atm. I would be comfortable in both but I think I would lean more towards the Sabre due to the agility and maneuverability. But in truth i'll probably just fly the F8 Lightning
are you a wing commander?
@@TrainLechoo That I am. Law can vouch for me on that or you can look up my profile on the website. The handle is Rakasan
@@RakasansLegacy I don't doubt you. just wanted to say "holy shit" and "congrats". lol
I'm torn. I was planning on upgrading F7C to the super hornet but the saber has a lot to offer as well. Cheers for the video, gives me a lot to think about.
Super Hornet buddy you won't regret buy it while you can, next week you won't be able to buy it.
What did you end up doing?
@@Splinter4077 It was a while back and my memory isn't great - but I think I ended up getting the Harbinger instead for a while. Eventually cashed it in and bought the BMM. Now I have a cat and a banu defender, I'm happy haha.
@@dan271291 Ya I hear that, I didn't go my planned route either. Originally went starfarer with a refuel org like 5 years ago but now it's a starlifter for cargo. Ships make us happy then, lol.
Cleanest Star Citizen ship content out there
this video really helped me decide on my sabre
Cant wait til everything gets finalized and the Glaive takes its rightful place as the best 1v1 murdership. Someday, someday
the AEGIS Sabre actually makes a good case for a realistic interstellar spacecraft . . . albeit with a host of serious modifications needed using man's current technological breakthroughs in quantum physics . . . for e.g. the power pack which will have to be replaced by indigenous ion & e-HYBRID propulsion that promises to cut down travel time to Mars by half . . .
I love the Hornet over the Sabre. its versatility is far more important and useful for my style.
Great video as always, very accurate comparisons. I own both and once armor and stealth are actually implemented then both of these ships will be amazing. The other draw back currently are the nose cone shield holes, both ships have bad shield holes. However it doesnt make them unplayable... just have to be more attentive while in combat.
Sabre...
you've convinced me
Hi! Please share how you avoid banding gradients in your videos? Did you adding ~4% of film grain or it's dealing in software by itself? Thanks!
I hope they put the Super Hornet up for sale again soon. It's probably my next purchase... unless I find out an Arrow fits my Carrack.
Eli Schrock gotta get on that grey market
I'm 90% sure I remember one of the devs maybe it was John Crewe at the ship panel at citcon saying that the Arrow does fit in the Carrack.
The arrow does not fit inside the carrack
As usual, impeccable delivery.
One of the best reviews on two ships I have seen. Subscribed.
Wow, very nice layout of the vid, entertaining and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Perfect balance yet again with your storytelling approach. Ever thought about the Raven? The Verse's dirty little secret? Thanks yet again.
I've already got a VS episode already in mind that features the Raven. Unfortunately it might be a while before I get to it.
I adore my SH and I cannot wait for the F7A upgrade CIG sold years back to upgrade mine to the new model style
Sabre has now officially reclaimed it's position ad the shield hole is fixed! No news on the Hornets yet maybe they will continue to suck until armor system.
I dont think the holes have been fixed, I still get my nose cone waxed by lasers even at full shields
@@Zatellia We tested it in AC though. Not sure if it is still there in PU.
@@cyphereternal2308 I remember seeing a patch note talking about the hornet getting its shield holes fixed but it still seems it is there as well. Maybe they haven't made it into the PU yet. Or maybe they were using ballistics but looked like lasers
@@cyphereternal2308 so just took the sabre out in the PU and maybe they did fix them finally... yay I can play my sabre again!!!
There is a whole new shield system coming to all the ships.
Sabres are so damn tanky. They take forever to take down.
I hate the Saber. Too many PV
Sabers are so damn sneaky and fast they can take a target out before they have a chance to retaliate.
XD
I swear I've been assaulted by about 7-8 AI ships at once and I can just sit there not moving and they rarely seem to get the shields below 90%
Players are another matter because the ones that fight know tend to know the exploits better.
Fantastic video filled with great information.... Still don't know which one to purchase! :)
Great video and fantastic points. I would have went Knight or Samurai instead of Barbarian.
With current FM Sabre is more like a Sumo guy
Would love to have a updated version of this video
I plan on doing it after both ships have had their gold standard pass.
@@lawofthewestgaming dope! Thanks.
Additionally, the Saber is cheaper than the Super Hornet, meaning you can always upgrade to a Super Hornet later if/when they fix its problems.
your voice is relaxing in a crazy freaking world .
interceptors are a class of fighter also. small nitpick but light fighters are not always interceptors.
and we very much going to require interceptors and "tacklers" when it comes to interdiction.
beyond that yea they the top two medium fighters, nice to have two viable choices.
we see how armor sorts out, i almost think we been carrying the weight anyway on the ship and adding it not going to change it that much vs whatever numbers they faked, how they supposed to tweak its flight model if its weight is going to drastically change and invalidate its thrustors?
Really great video. Gonna check out the rest.
Great review and comparison, as usual!
While military components are going to be the best overall at doing what they do.
hei guys an advice, what ship to change my wonderful avenger titan with a strong charge of fire??? ciaooo
style > stats or
stats > style
imo the hornet is one of the best looking ships in the game, so i want to own one
So bounty Hunting requires a certain ship? Or can I use any other ship I wish?
Just found you bud and I’m staying lol beautiful comparison thank you 🙏
i've always preferred the hornet to the super hornet. with customizability it seems about the same if not better, while being cheaper.
Have you done a Gladius v. Arrow? If not then please do.
Crazy game with crazy grafics and disign ships
Sabre is amazing but Super Hornet is love.
Great video as usual Law. Any chance you can do a compare on troop drop ships?
awesome video, really enjoyed it. I luv both these ships
you forgot 1 thing. in the hornet if you lose a wing you lose a gun if you lose both wings your really gona be handicapped with the saber thats not a problem.
Ugh all Hornet variants are amazing looking.
Nice.!
Sabre is a dangerous ambush apex predator.
The super hornet is the drunk Irish gypsy who walks around the pub dropping his shoulder into people as he walks past hoping they engage.
You sound exactly like The Pilot that does ED vids. Great video tho 👍🏾
I like both ships.....why I bought both but for different reasons as I like options on how I feel like tackling a "problem"
Where to get that size 4 gimbal mount for the super hornet to replace the ball turret?
What helmet are you wearing in the video?
Amazing video! How did you take the inner cockpit camera angles? Those were cool
If you press F4 in conjunction with the arrow keys, page up, page down, home and end, you can adjust the camera to gets some impressive views.
@@lawofthewestgaming ah cool! thanks man :D
@@lawofthewestgaming I am starting to have fun with SC, any recommendations to find people to play with?
@@FrVle I can recommend a good org that has a lot of great people to play with robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/STRATCOM (this is my org) ; )
Great video !!!
YAY!! I check every day after class for this video and was disappointed again this afternoon but it is here after work which is even better to start my long weekend! Lol.. I have been so busy with school and work that i have to catch up on SC news.
My mind was made up before i started this video (but you already knew that lol), especially considering i prefer combat that requires me to strategize, rather that just a boring slug fest.. Also the Comet variant is always stunning when I see it around Stanton.. When I have my Endeavor, there will definitely be a Comet variant Sabre docked beside my Cutlass Red in the dockicg bay module.. Just for when i want to covertly poke around a particular area away from the mother ship, in relative privacy.. Ahhh yes, it will be great!.. I wasn't interested in a fighter until I seen the Sabre lol.. I am eager to launch from an Idris or Bengal Carrier, just like in my favorite anime!... I really wish SC was closer to a finished product.. I want to play before I get married and have children eventually lol
Great video as usual!.. You know, even though I felt like I was dying of old age waiting for this upload lol :p
I had a feeling that you might be looking forward to this video. ; ) It was fun to work on, but ended up taking forever to finish. How about yourself, did you get your computer fixed yet?
I have not even had much time to worry about my gaming PC lately because work after class has been steady, but I did manage to pick up a a new hard drive that needs an OS installed on it.. A friend in my class is going to do it.. I'm use to buying computer and it works.. Not use to buying parts.. I looked at the price of the parts my ex boyfriend bought for this and the individual parts each cost more than my entire Lenovo laptop I use for school related stuffs lol.. I'm glad was is only a ssd i need.
Nice video, how did you get that shot @ 5:16 ??
i like small ships because big ships is expensive to repair and refuel.
