That is 100% no shit. I had one when they were new. Tone Report did a review of them in a used gear spotlight & the price for them went up 50% almost immediately. I've been meaning to pick one up for about a year now (price was reasonable). Had them on my watch list but the money has always gone to other stuff. Just looked. Josh inflation has struck again as it did for BBE & Behringer.
Hey everyone! Please check out the full description for info on the gear in this episode, the white JHS amp, Josh's guitar and strap and links to gear and the record in Record Time. Thanks for watching!
I sincerely love that you didn't feature the Tube Screamer, don't particularly like Tube Screamers, and used this Record Time to talk about an album that doesn't care about guitar lol I, too, am that kind of guitar player ;) WOULD like to have seen some more love for the Echo Shifter here - one of the first tap-tempo analog delays, I believe, and just a super cool-LOOKING pedal - but I will find it in my heart to forgive you. Mostly bc of the other stuff I said a second ago. Kthxbai.
Hi. My first ever guitar pedal was the Ibanez AD-80 Analog Delay bought for over £100 in 1981. It was my 16th birthday and my mum asked me what I wanted. I was into Dub...King Tubby etc so I said an echo pedal. We went to the local music shop on Holloway Road in Islington, London and she bought me the AD-80. I still have it and love it for so many reasons, one of them being my mum is no longer alive but every time I look at the pedal I'm reminded of her. Another reason is that when it goes into self-oscillation it can take your ears off...in a good way. Thanks, Bill
I bought the muffaletta and have been a fan since. Really dig the videos. The 80s pedal board and the ibanez pedal vid was really cool. I wish I still had all the pedals I've gotten since I started playing. I was a pawn shopper and most of these pedals were around 10 to 20 dollars back in the day.
Gato Barbieri on Flying Dutchman records... Under Fire, Latino America series, Bolivia, Fenix, Caliente, Ruby Ruby, etc. All great Argentinian 70’s sax, love it. RIP, he recently passed.
...cool to see Coltrane featured in record time...my jazz record recommendation to those who don’t listen to jazz is the 1963 live album “Kirk In Copenhagen” by Roland Kirk, a blind saxophonist who would play multiple horns at once...the man was genius, and this is a VERY accessible jazz record, full of unusual technique...
Great 'starter' jazz albums are Kind of Blue by Miles Davis and Time Out by Dave Brubeck - they are really accessible and got me into to some more 'out there' stuff!
Nailed it Tim. 1959 was an amazing year! I really love Blue Ronde a la Turk, on Time Out. The switching between 9 and a straight up 4/4 beat in the middle really helped me understand odd time signatures
Love Blue Train. It was my 3rd jazz lp. 1st being Kind of Blue which every guitarist should listen to and read the liner notes. 2nd being Bill Evan’s “everybody digs bill evans”. It’s no coincidence that all both these guys played on Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue.
I own a DE-7 for years without even have tried to use it. It was a "leaving job" gift and I was not aware of what good things could come out of this. After years non-playing guitar, I discovered it in it's box and plugged it in. Tried to use it in an "old school" way, I mean in front of all other pedals as 70's guitarists used it in front of their overdrived amp, and mainly turns pots never over 1 or 2. This was a revelation. Now it Never leave my pedal board. Switching between Echo/Delay is really enjoyable to. +1 MrOrange.
They reissued them in a direct clone format about 3 years ago in a limited run from Japan but with true bypass. I have one. I'll never part with it. And it was $70 brand new in box.
My Mostortion is the foundation of my pedalboard. It can make strong distortion when required, it buffers the chain, it moderates the roar of the Beano Boost placed before it, it works as a clean boost! (with Level up and Distortion down) and it can replicate my Marshall 30th Anniversary's crunch channel almost exactly through its clean channel. I endorse 100% its ability to simulate a tube amp. In fact a Mostortion is all you need if some cruel person forces you to go directly into a PA.
Love to see an episode on guitar synth pedals...just got the Source Audio C4 and it has me a little obsessed! PS...look forward to this vlog every week. 😃
And all of them have been sold off of Reverb and now it goes for double or triple the price.... Thanks guys! Should have pulled the trigger on it last week
It was my first pedal. My parents bought it for me when i was like 13 yrs old (2006ish). Always wanted to replace it with a boss but never realized what was "wrong" with it. Tried an mxr carbon copy and hated it. Think I'm good with my trusty 80 dollar DE7
Ibanez is kind of underrated for their pedals aside from the TS-9. I love the CS-9 chorus. It's very smooth and works well with the tube screamer and gives the exact effect of John Squire of The Stone Roses.
The RC99 Rotary Chorus is an underappreciated gem. I don't know why more chorus pedals don't give you a delay time knob. That knob alone gets you in the ballpark of so many classic chorus sounds. Plus you get a wet blend knob, and inverted-phase stereo output. It's so good.
Thank you for these videos. You could easily throw your own pedals in for comparison purposes, but you choose instead to let the products speak for themselves and give a bit of history lessons. That rocks!!
Bitches' Brew is the first jazz record I ever got into, and still one of the only ones. There's not enough creepy jazz out there and that album had a sinister vibe all the way through that I dug. The guys from the band Congos used to have a dark jazz combo that played around the Phoenix area in the early 2000s and I loved that stuff, I just wish there were more people exploring dark / ambient / atmospheric jazz.
Honorable mention for the WD7 Weeping Demon wah. Best wah on the market today. It’s a noiseless optical wah that has a great EQ section with adjustable lows, highs, and Q all with tone lock knobs. It also has the option to bypass the on/off switch and instead you are able to turn the effect on by simply moving the pedal. As soon as you lift your foot off of the pedal it turns off. You can even adjust the latency between when you lift your foot and when the effect turns off...or just use the traditional on/off switch and you’re able to get your cocked wah tones. Super versatile and great sounding wah.
Man.. I love your videos so much.. The way you always play a riff or melody that suits the pedal in an amazing way.. By the way, I got a de7 like 2 days ago and already loving it, and I think you got me conviced on the flanger! Thank you for your work!
Glad to see you dig Blue Train. Great album. His work on Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue is excellent as well. My favorite album of his is Giant Steps, and Love Supreme is a close second.
One of the first jazz records I ever bought was a collection of live recordings of the Bill Evans trio at the Village Vanguard. It's still one of my all time favorites. Not just jazz but records in general. The chemistry in that band, especially between Evans and bassist Scott LaFaro, is just amazing.
I have the analog delay AD 80. Bought brand new and it’s still works great attached to my 1978 Mini Moog. Thanks for the great pedal videos. I especially like when you describe the circuit. And yes Blue Train ,Coltrane 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
ME TOO! I actually got the Maxon Analog Man modded version of the SD-9. Has an added internal mid-range pot. I also had a Maxon FL-9 but actually prefer the Ibanez version, and like Josh I use it mostly for Chorus. My favorite chorus sound comes from an MXR Flanger but that's another topic.
Blue train is a great Album,. I love Coltrane but he can be a lot for people who are not used to Jazz. I think for most, Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is a better place to start.
My favourite Ibanez pedal is the DDL, a very warm and rich sounding digital delay pedal that came out in 1985. It was part of the "Master Series", in between the 9 and 10 series. It's been with me ever since and it needs not shy away from comparison with ANY other delay pedal!!! "Blue Train" is a masterpiece, and I am glad that you recommended this Jazz album! Just too many people (guitarists) have an aversion to Jazz because they never had the chance to listen to some REAALY good Jazz records. Btw there are as many different Jazz genres as there are in Rock...just my 2 cents.
My first guitar pedal was a Distortion plus, that my guitar teacher, Randy Rhoads, told me to go out and buy. He said you have to have one of these, so I bought it, and I still have it.
Well said Sir! I only watched this video to see where you rated the tube screamer. I was pleasantly surprised by your answer and now I'm an even bigger fan! Keep up the most excellent work, love your videos!
Proud owner of a FL-9 here and happy to see it get some love. Love the watery Scofield-esque thing you can get out of it as well as a super light chorus-y tone.
Ibanez Echo Shifter - Analog signal path with digitally controlled tap temp, a FADER, modulation and oscillation switches, and cool wood sides like a MOOG.
I own an Ibanez UE-405. It’s awesome! Has 4 vintage Ibanez effects. Compressor, parametric EQ, steep chorus, and the AD-9 Dealy! Also has a send return that is the 5th effect. I use racks or distortions in that channel.
Great concept on paper and absolute killer looks. But I always found the low end of the sweep range massively weak and disappointing. And unlike analog wahs, there is no easy way to shift the range. Also, unlike all my other toneloks, the WD7 does seem to suck out tone even when it's off.
How about the Ibanez Soundtank DL-5 Delay? Brad Whitford had one in his rig for years because he couldn’t find a delay that was as warm and natural. They’re super cheap to buy because the foot switch breaks so easily and easy to retrofit with a more durable switch. The Ibanez Soundtanks are an overlooked bargain that require some TLC but can be easily modded to sound great.
My very first pedal was an Ad-9 in the 80's. I bought it used for $20. I had no idea what I was buying, and I have been a lover of delay since. My favorite affect.
In 1983 I bought the lbanez tube screamer, because of its color, in 2019, about 2 hours before this video I bought the de7. YES! I don't buy pedals often but when I do...
Nice to see your choice of tube screamer: the TS7 really stands out! BTW, the 7 series is my favorite collection of pedals, period. The Fuzz FZ7 was my first pedal and it is a cute little machine of mayhem. It never goes out of my bass board.
I had one in the 80s that I refinished to wood grain. I miss it. sold it to a fellow metalhead in Atlantic City. I hope he still has it and enjoys it as much as I did.
I'm not a metalhead , but I remember admiring the Destroyers on the wall of my local Ibanez dealer when I was a teenager . They had 3 , black with barbed wire graphic, a stylised Japanese "rising sun" and I think the other was a kind of neon tiger stripe .
I love the Weeping Demon Ibanez wah. It was lever where you can transition from a Morley-style where you press a button to turn it on and one that activates automatically when you step on it.
Great video Josh, here in the comments to drop some jazz albums that might be useful and or interesting to the non jazz listener. Dizzy Gillespie - After Hours Thelonious Monk - Misterioso Cannonball Adderley - Mercy Mercy Mercy Wes Montgomery - Boss Guitar Miles Davis - Relaxin' Brecker Brothers - Heavy Metal Bebop Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life Wynton Marsalis - Black Codes Wayne Shorter - Atlantis Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music Brad Mehldau - Largo Horace Silver - Song For My Father Warning! Listening to jazz may include symptoms of: Unbridled scatting, excessive use of the word cat, onset of a goatee and beret, minimalist pedalboards, mild schizophrenia, an aversion to 1 & 3, P S Y C H I C A B I L I T I E S, loss of friends. Call your doctor today if you think jazz is right for you! Stop using jazz if you experience chronic tinnitus in both eyes and or salivating of the mouth when tritones are sounded.
Thanks so much for the Blue Trane mention at the end! I love your channel. Can't believe the depth and breadth of your knowledge on this topic, and the evidence that you make great videos is that I don't care a whole lot about pedals, but I love your intense interest and focus. A few other jazz records with *no* guitar that guitarists might like: "Night Train" by the Oscar Peterson Trio, "Chet Baker Sings "It Could Happen to You.'" and "Something Else" by Cannonball Adderly.
I have an Ibanez stereo volume pedal on one of my pedalboards. I also have a 10 series Digital Delay ii that gets occasional love. I had several Ibanez pedals over the years, mostly 10 series. I had a compressor that was basically a Ross but Ibanez branded. It had the 8 series enclosure but instead of the square switch we are used to seeing it had the typical switch found in all pedals up to when Boss came out with their relay based soft touch switches.
If I didn't know better, I would have sworn he was gay, and I mean that as a compliment. His characteristics, his mannerisms, his humor, his approach in general, just all seems very gay to me.
I have 3 guitars, but no pedals. I wish they would bring back the Jet King series and the original Talmans with lipstick pickups, those were some great funky guitars!
My favorite ibanez pedal was the CP9 compressor. It was the only Ibanez pedal I owned in the early '80s. Later I went with the Ibanez UE rack-mount effects & remote foot switches. Damn fine analog gear.
That orange Overdrive is brutal. My first four pedals ever were 9-series that I bought new. The SD-9 Sonic Distortion, FL-9 Flanger, and AD-9 Analog Delay. And a CP-9 compressor. I didn't "get" that one, and traded it for a tube amp, but the other three were responsible for every sound I got between 1983 and 1995. The SD-9 is still far and away my favorite.
I recently bought an Ibanez auto-wah in Ottawa. No joke.
🤭👌
I’d pay anything for a pedal called “Kings Tone”.

Same, I was going through all mine and had to stop typing (all bar one are Maxon)
Yup I had a few pedals that said Maxon when I was a kid, found out it was the real brand that made them for Ibanez, no body believed me lol
Ibanez dont make pedals its Maxon. They just rebrand them
@@theWARMJET Yes, that is the joke! Funny enough I just bought FL-305! Ibanez on the top and Maxon inside the board.
@@HenritheHorse hehe
Ibanez Echo Shifter - Analog signal path with digitally controlled tap temp, a FADER, modulation and oscillation switches, and cool wood sides like a MOOG.
Also has a reputation for breaking easily, as mine did for no apparent reason.
My favorite Ibanez pedal is the Modulation Delay III
My DML original pale green one was stolen long time ago.
Recently bought a DML II, and it is indeed a very cool box of tricks.
I have been on the hunt for one at the right price. Oh, it will be mine.
I have the green DML10 but it's not been working. Just no effect when on....anyone know how it might be fixed?
I heard those were really good. I should've bought one.
I have both a II and a III
Different enough to justify having both of them !
I own an Ibanez UE-405. It’s awesome! Has 4 vintage Ibanez effects. Compressor, parametric EQ, steep chorus, and the AD-9 Dealy! Also has a send return that is the 5th effect. I use racks or distortions in that channel.
Pleeeze do a strap shootout!!! I've got a cool collection - the tones!!! OMG
As a Frusciante fan boy one of the first pedals I ever got was an original WH10 Wah and I’ve loved it ever since.
All I'm gonna say is thank god for the TS9, it's the instant talent pedal for thousands of players.
Well then the problem is that most of those guys seem to be using them with dead batteries.
So glad you mentioned the importance of a good toan strap, so many people ignoring them and arguing about wood.
Ibanez WD-7 Weeping Demon. Definitely one you missed. Great wah pedal!
Shhhh!!!!!!!!
Don't say that I'm hunting for a spare now bruh.
Agreed. I use mine on bass.
Great concept on paper and absolute killer looks. But I always found the low end of the sweep range massively weak and disappointing. And unlike analog wahs, there is no easy way to shift the range.
Also, unlike all my other toneloks, the WD7 does seem to suck out tone even when it's off.
Kimon Froussios Have you fiddled with the internal trim pots? I managed to cure some of what you say that way.
Blue Train was the first Jazz album I listened to and Coltrane is still one of my heroes!
My dad just gifted me an AF9 for Christmas. This thing is vintage! I can’t wait to try it out
For my favorite jazz albums, do you want like a Top 100 or something?
My very first pedal was an Ad-9 in the 80's. I bought it used for $20. I had no idea what I was buying, and I have been a lover of delay since. My favorite affect.
2nd!well first thats not jhs... Better have the weeping demon wah. best wah pedal ever made.
Jazz... Kind of Blue. Amazing record that gives back the more you listen and learn about it
“The strap makes the tone resonate better” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 💩
And I've been crediting the fretboard inlay. Live and learn.
The hot mode on the TS7 is something magical.
any Thelonius Monk he really thought outside the box.
In 1983 I bought the lbanez tube screamer, because of its color, in 2019, about 2 hours before this video I bought the de7. YES! I don't buy pedals often but when I do...
My favorite Ibanez pedal is the JHS Bonsai... 😎
Nice to see your choice of tube screamer: the TS7 really stands out! BTW, the 7 series is my favorite collection of pedals, period. The Fuzz FZ7 was my first pedal and it is a cute little machine of mayhem. It never goes out of my bass board.
The crooked stomp switch on that ibanez analog delay is triggering my ocd
That's funny, I was just about to post the same comment!
The Mostortion is a must have. I got mine sometime in the 90’s on tour and still use it regularly. Fantastic pedal!! Love this series and channel
Not a pedal, but I'll always love my Ibanez Destroyer
Dizzy Gillespie - After Hours
Thelonious Monk - Misterioso
Cannonball Adderley - Mercy Mercy Mercy
Wes Montgomery - Boss Guitar
Miles Davis - Relaxin'
Brecker Brothers - Heavy Metal Bebop
Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life
Wynton Marsalis - Black Codes
Wayne Shorter - Atlantis
Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music
Brad Mehldau - Largo
Horace Silver - Song For My Father
Warning! Listening to jazz may include symptoms of:
Unbridled scatting, excessive use of the word cat, onset of a goatee and beret, minimalist pedalboards, mild schizophrenia, an aversion to 1 & 3, P S Y C H I C A B I L I T I E S, loss of friends.
One of my favorite, also on the Blue Note label, and featuring guitar, is Grant Green's Idle Moments.
I don’t know if I should say this, but I’m developing some strange new feelings for josh.. I can’t, he is married
Mabey you should know of a rumor I heard a while ago, apparently Josh has every pick ever made attached to the ceiling...
Stand back, Bitch, he's mine! ;-D
If I didn't know better, I would have sworn he was gay, and I mean that as a compliment. His characteristics, his mannerisms, his humor, his approach in general, just all seems very gay to me.
Blue Train was my first Coltrane album, it's an amazing one! Great show, Thank You!
I have four Ibanez guitars, but no Ibanez pedals.
Hmm.
I have 3 guitars, but no pedals. I wish they would bring back the Jet King series and the original Talmans with lipstick pickups, those were some great funky guitars!
I got a SD-9M Sonic Distortion couple years ago for grins and I’ll never let it go. It’s become a intricate part of my diet sound.
I hate this channel so much because I love this channel so much. Please keep making me miserable.
My favorite ibanez pedal was the CP9 compressor. It was the only Ibanez pedal I owned in the early '80s. Later I went with the Ibanez UE rack-mount effects & remote foot switches. Damn fine analog gear.
Hey Josh, TAYLOR SWIFT WANTS HER GUITAR BACK!
