This not was cheap because it was lo fi. Indeed it has a JRC4580 Op-Amp to make that clipping and has an Ibanez signature DSP chip with a unique code program inside. Its an emulation of a tape delay. And that auto-oscillation that never gets out of control seems to be extremely rare among delay pedals. You are a master dialing the controls of this pedal. The sequence that begins in 9:18 is a master demo. Thank you so much.
Was ready to rage at you for calling the DE-7 the a bad pedal! But you’re totally right, its flaws are its strengths. Totally love the weird sounds that you can get from it.
The low fi repeats is how any standard analog delay works. You can get that sound from any cheap pedal, just check out the Donner Wave pedal. Analog Delay -> Degraded repeats Digital Delay -> Perfect repeats
This one clips the repeats in a very unique way, though. I’ve used damn near every major analog delay on the market and one of them sound like the DE7.
This pedal is definitely NOT a road warrior 😂. The enclosure is so brittle. I used this pedal for years and had it replaced twice within a few months at one point. And that was just from basic stomping. I do love the tones from it but I had to replace it permanently on my live board because it's just not built to take any sort of actual wear and tear. I do keep one around for fun and often think about rehousing it myself but since it's a rare pink version, I always talk myself out of it in case i ever wanna sell it.
There are snobs who only care about high quality components and extremely clean signal, which is fine! But yes, I have heard other players call this pedal “the worst” in terms of sound quality.
Lo-fi before it was cool! 🔥🔥🔥

This was my first pedal too! I bought it in 2000. It is one of the only 2 pedals that has never, ever left my pedalboard.
JHS Delay series 3 is based on Ibanez de7.
Did he really say Ibanez is not known for their pedals? Tube Screamer?
Nice! this is a really cool showcase of this pedal. Loved the Fall of Troy riff in there haha
Had to throw it in there, haha. Thanks for checking out the vid.

Shout out to the golden ducky it looks like it knows whatsup.
The delay side is almost unusable on mine, due to it being really noisy. But the echo side is gold!!
I got mine used for 5 dollars at guitar center because it was missing a pin on the switch. I stuck a finish nail in there and problem solved.
What a steal! This pedal will never leave my setup.
