    Had one since 2000 and it never left my board. It is an amazing delay pedal that has its own very unique voice. I have played through a lot of other delay units since, objectively better than my DE7 but I just keep coming back to it almost immidiately.

    I've had my DE7 since 2001 also. It's the best eighty bucks I've ever spent. It's still sounds great.

    In 2001. by chance as i was looking for some good delay echo pedal, my friend brought me DE-7 from Phoenix directly at my home, in Montenegro. I don't know who from the famous people used it, i am writing this at the beggining of the video, because i loved the sentence you spoke ''why DE-7 still matters'. I will just say, never had a better dalay or echo pedal, and never will i use and search for the other. That one was stolen, so now, i am looking to buy it, to have it again.

    That tune at 7.45 with the oscillation dialing up and down is pure magic. What you play at the end is also great. Thank you for this video man

      It's a great illustration of why people love the pedal. I'd play something very similar if I was trying to explain the appeal to a friend.

    When high school me was at his peak level of experimentation and chasing some crazy Tom Morello-style sounds I put a DE7 after a Talk Box and Dano French Toast Fuzz. In the 23 years since then the DE7 still makes its way onto every board I build. There's just something magic about it I haven't been able to find in any other pedal or plugin.

    Been using mine since I bought it when they had just replaced the soundtanks with the tone-locks. Absolutely love it. I use the echo for slapback and the wild oscillation and delay for everything in between. It’s the only pedal I’d replace immediately if it broke.

    This is a great showcase of the pedal! Thanks for explaining the signal path differences between the echo and delay modes. Somehow that information has always eluded me.

    Wow awesome video! Thanks for the informative description of these pedals and the wonderful demonstration of how the delay works. I just bought a fuzz for$20 and plan to add a few of the other Tone Lok pedals into the mix. this one will definitely be a must have.

    I've just bought one of these, very lightweight pedal but appears to be made of aluminium, not plastic as some people say. Never seen a broken or dented one, and these are 20 or so years old.

    • @effectsreviews6888
      @effectsreviews6888  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I would guess the decision to go for an unbreakable case was damage control after Ibanez sold the Soundtank series with plastic cases. It seems like they decided to go the absolute opposite direction after that.

    yeah, i think i specifically bought one cause of how mark from dredg uses it,...quick echo repeats with no tails so you can turn it on and hit a note, it just begins to self oscillatie, then turn it off without the tails.

    • @wtvrndvr
      @wtvrndvr Рік тому +2

      Hey, thanks very much! No, unfortunately it’s been long enough that I’m not sure what settings I was using.
      Generally, I try to match Delay Time to the tempo of the song, set Delay Level to 12 o’clock, and then adjust the Repeat knob based on how much space I want the echo to take up.
      If it’s a quieter part of the song and I want a “bed” of echoes to keep it interesting, dial in more repeats.
      If there’s already a lot going on in the song, fewer repeats keeps it from getting messy.

      Hey, I think you asked if the DE7 could do 100% wet. I think the right answer is no. You can turn the effect up high enough that it oscillates but there’s no dry/wet mix control where you could completely cut out the dry signal. That’s a good question though, especially since there’s a dry output on the pedal.

    • @robsthedon

    I am too very greatful that I bought this effect around 2007 (I guess). It's simple and the echo with oscillation I still use to get the spacey sound (setting the repeat to just around 3 o'clock) playing a note with a time knob around 12 o clock and as it continues to oscillate I play around with tome knob to get higher or lower sounds from my original note/Phrase. I also use phase modulator PM7 but unfortunately one of my 3-way switch of modules got broken and I can't find some spare part. Does anyone know who provided the switches for Ibanez? Please respond if you know.

    DE7 or DD3?

    • @wtvrndvr
      @wtvrndvr 2 роки тому

      Good question. I guess the right answer is both, because they’re pretty different. If you’re only buying one, I would buy the DE7 for ambient/experimental music or a recording project where you have a good amount of time to take advantage of the character of that pedal. For most other situations, it’s hard to beat the reliability and simplicity of the DD3.
