@@Syphirioth not really. Things just look smaller on a tiny screen infront of you. Each bloack in Minecraft has a length of 1 meters, yet they don't feel anywhere near that big ingame. Anyone who has played Minecraft VR will tell you how blown away they were by the size of the block.
Seeing the scale of The Retribution and Kingship above Manhattan makes me remember all those movies of alien invasion with hundreds of fighters flying around the capital ship... I wonder if something similar to that will ever happen in SC, because I know it's possible.
There's a ship coming in stqrcitizen 3 which is 11.6 km long max crew 7000. It's a colonial ship. It's from an unannounced alien race which are moving towards a distant solar system due to religious reasons as the myths are that they come from planet zutar
Star Citizen's ships aren't as tightly packed as real world ships can be. My rule of thumb conversion is to misread meters as feet (roughly 1/3) as with something like the included '890 Jump'. The 890 Jump's interior is a bit closer to a real world yacht of 205 foot length vs a hypothetical 205 meter monster yacht in terms of rooms and amenities. So while the exteriors are epic in length, the crew capacity of these ships can be a bit jarring next to mildly equivalent real world vessels that pack in vastly more people. The Carrack next to the cargo ship is another good illustration. The Carrack packs in a LOT of game features, but the cargo ship it is next to would dwarf the Carrack in rooms, navigable spaces, and crew capacity.
That's for gameplay purposes. As much as I personally want these ships to have similar to the real ones interior scaling It'll be impossible to gather enough players to fully crew one in game.
@@TheDAWinz Automation could explain a low crew count aboard future starships, but I don't feel that fits the Star Citizen model. It seems more about game design and limits from the engine. I'm an enthusiastic follower of the game, and while I do have some lore criticisms and suggestions about various details of ship designs, this scaling we are talking about here is fine. It merely stands out a bit when contrasting Star Citizen ships against real world vessels that are designed with those differing constraints in design. If you want something that actually bothers me amongst Star Citizen ships design, I'd offer up the lack of a passenger seat on the Origin 300 series ships. Can't see somebody in-universe buying a luxury transport without the ability to bring along a +1 (pilot, assistant, girlfriend). Doesn't seem like a plausible market segment vs a two seat version.
@@TheDAWinz but what's the point of having a walkable space when everything there is automated. Star citizen is a game so it's ships don't necessarily should be perfectly realistic. Devs, I guess, model only the interior spaces they want players to interact with.

That was the retribution. The project was delayed mid construction and then restarted. Bunch of in lore stuff about military budget cuts before the Vanduul attacked Vega.
The relative scale between a lot of these models is *extremely* off. You quote length differences of something like 30-40% and then show a model that is barely longer.
For science fiction ships they're really arent that big. The Javelin is actually 20 Meters shorter than the Enterprise D on Star Trek but they still look huge in game.
Yeah they arent that big compared to other sci fi universes, but when you factor in that they all will have a walkable interior their size its still impressive
Wait how does the 890 jump look to be the same size as the banu merchantman. 890 jump is a private yacht and banu is a massive trading ground (like a shopping mall)
Finally I know how an ATV compares to a banana! This question has been nagging me for so long! *Open petition to change in-game vehicle metrics to banana units!*
Star Citizen Retribution: 2700m. Next bigger Ship from Games you can only find at the Imperium of Man-Navy of Warhammer 40k. Like a regular Cruiser: 3500m. Or a Battlecruiser: 5300m. And yes, I like them, but I also like how Star Citizen has a good view for realistic sizes of the ships. Really well done!
Love comparing these to real life objects. I was recently on a cruise ship and I was even thinking when I was on it, how my Carrack or Idris would compare!
Jokes aside this is fantastic. They should advertise the game in Dubai, to all those rich oil Sheikhs, with "The Bengal Carrier - As Big As The Burj Khalifa!". 😁
Considering the scale of these ships, if they actually did build it the interiors of them they would be the size of loreville, and lets get serious, that's not going to happen.
@@DrSmugface the last 2 ships stretched accross a several mile block size in comparison, what I'm saying is those interiors will NEVER be that big IRL, so the comparison to the city was a little bogus because if that scale was true it would take them a decade just to model the interior.

True, I didn't remember. The biggest ship that is capable of landing is the Kraken.
They've posted teaser pictures of Kingships literally swarming to the brim with glaives
They would stay in orbit, bombing the city to dust, then send in dropships to clean up.
once server meshing comes in, it's entirely possible. I can already envision a large org doing something similar with a Javelin and a bunch of Furys.
