- In this video I show you how to correctly disassemble the sliding door to replace either the door glass, the window regulator, or the lock actuator. this is the same procedure for 2010-2015 chrysler, dodge and Volkswagen vans. The Vw Routan, the chrysler town and country and dodge grand caravans all carry the same design. the entire job can be done in a little over an hour.
Thanks. Good stuff. Chrysler owes me money at this point. I've never had to do so much work on a vehicle in my life.
You sir, just made life a whole lot easier for me. Thank you very much. You made it not only look easy but made the best how to video on this subject, hand down! All other videos had me fretting but not anymore. You're very appreciated sir.
Thank you for that feed back.
For anyone who wants to try an easier fix, I took the side of the door off like he does here, but in my case the actuator was stuck and would not move. I manually moved the rod that connects to the manual door lock and tried moving it back and forth, I also sprayed WD-40 and lithium grease spray into the hole where the rod goes into the actuator. I did not remove anything else, no window, etc. Obviously if the actuator is completely shot, you will probably have to follow this entire video procedure. But in my case I was able to rock the rod back and forth manually and got the actuator to move again. It makes a little buzz when locking but for me it was enough to get it working. Mine was stuck so that it wouldn't even manually lock or unlock. Thanks Derrick for the video that got me going in the right direction on how to get that panel off. Note also to get to the t15 screw you just pry the housing around the handle and it will easily come off to expose the screw.
Your awesome man, I’m a tech and I’ve never done one of these but when I did my diag time I found the actuator and regulator on the other side to be shot. This helped me out a lot man
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful, Direct to the point and easy to follow. Regards Miguel.
DAAAAAMN good video!!!! I enjoyed how you explained this for people that are mechanically inclined and just NEVER done one yet HELPS immensely thank you
It’s a joy to watch a professional like yourself do this! :-)
Good video! Thanks for covering the steps in a strait forward simple manner!
This helped me so much (twice 🤦🏻♂️) . Thank you!
Thank you today I'm going to attempt to do my 2015 town and country sliding door
Nice video. These doors aren't easy, good tip on NOT removing all the cables.
Great job! I didn’t see you showing how to remove bolt at rear of window reg. It’s hidden behind flap too.
Could you do a video of taking the entire for off? I need to replace the entire door.
FYI latch bolts are installed with thread lock...i promptly stripped 4 of the 6 screws bolts...
Awesome video, however what do you do if the door wont open at all? Ive watched other videos and can move the actuator by hand but it still wont open. Have you dealt with that by chance?
You can't open it from inside or outside? I have seen the rear latch get stuck. Sometimes a good pull on the back of the door will pull it loose. If not you need to figure out which latch isn't opening and manually release it inside the door. It's a total pita
👍
The best part of the video is. You go to know how to pry and where to pry, but we just going to cut that out.
There is 2 doors. Break the 1st door, then you will know where to pry. G l
Do you know what the metal part the window slides into is called? Mines is going up slow and sometimes stops for a bit then moves again..any ideas woold be appreciated
My lock is buzzing, but it still locks and unlocks no problem. Do you know if this Is something I might be able to fix without replacing the actuator?
There is kits that allow you to bypass the actuator without the need to fully disassemble. It is essentially rigging the system. But they do work and they do save you time and a little money. Our customers just want the actual repair done.
Also, the noise u hear the the pinion gear on the motor slipping on the motor drive. I've seen them work for years like that.
My 2016 generic Dodge Grand has this issue . My windows are not the go down kind...
did the rod for the door lock actuator keep popping out?
Would you know where to buy those clips that break when you take the outside pillar panel off? Dey's broke.
I had to get them from chrysler. Ther were $5
when i took all the 10mm bolts off and removed the panel there are these two long rods that fell out with a metal wire attached to it one also has a spring and a plastic wheel could you tell me where those might go?
That is your window regulator. Not supposed to unbolt that
it's not the window regulator it's rather cyclinder shaped attached to a i believe metal wire there two of them one of which has a spring at the end

Correction.....Episode title: Why Mechanics Hate Engineers
What do you do if the door is stuck closed and can't open it?
Take the panel off. Push the door lock rod in and open the door. If that’s what’s wrong with it. My lock actuator is stuck but you can force it in enough to let the door open. Can’t wait to pull all this crap out to get to the damn thing…
How does the glass come out? At an angle tilting tip edge toward the back? I don't want to break it
The piece I pull away from the window is the rear track. If both 10 mm nuts on glass are off the window will pull up and out at a slight angle in relief cut on the pillar. Hope this helps
@@derrickwright8051 thanks, so I had done what you said, but it would bind as I lifted the glass. I ended up pulling the rubber track strip completely out of the frame. Then pulled the glass up and out.
With the bolts loose and trim off pull glass up and out at an angle through the relief cut in the pillar. Sorry for delay
@@derrickwright8051 Thanks for your help. Your video had all the key steps. I did remove the rear window weatherstrip to make it easy to remove the window. Maybe if i had loosened the bolts on the door panel, i would not needed to remove window weatherstrip. The rest of the job was fine. Job was done fast. Definitely the best approach to rnr the whole door panel, not take it apart like other videos
I did this a few weeks ago on my 2015 dodge caravan had to change the actuator I didn't have to take the glass out just taped the window from the top put in two door stoppers and and that was it changing the door actuator was a nightmare for me hope I never have to do that again while I own this van ugh''🤦🤦
Trying to install it back in. Wish I could see better about the 'ears' you're talking about. Having trouble putting it back in.
The assembly, or the actuator
@@derrickwright8051 having an issue with the entire assembly. Got the new actuator on. I see now I have some broken clips. Broke another piece trying to figure out how the black rod, window rail goes/stays on. Had to order a new latch presenter.
Can you add more hammering in the background in the next video?
Keep the actuator in and use this kit. No need to remove all those parts. ua-cam.com/video/xWtIe_xU160/v-deo.html
What a nightmare to replace an actuator. I think I'll just manually lock the door.
You need to pull this off doesn't show it lol
just buy a kit for 50 bucks and by-pass all this garbage...lol
Nice help! One thing you missed was the second “rubber sealed” access to the right side of the window. Or, at least mine had it. It was a great help as I got it fixed. Also, removing the window seal is a big help in removing the window. 🫡
