Thank you for a smile today, Susan. Love to you and Desi xx If anyone could please pray I'd appreciate it. My husband had a stroke last night. I'm home for an hour and then back to the hospital. I know that prayer works. The doctors are walking around with their mouths open after he started talking this afternoon. They keep saying "this doesn't happen, this doesn't happen". Thank you and all my love to everyone who watches Little Poet every week. Forgive me for asking. This is an emergency.

So, i'm 53 and have lost 68 pounds.. it's taken me two years but i've done it and am currently wearing a size 16.. So perhaps many of you ladies don't think it's a desirable size to wear but, considering i started at 3x.. I am very happy to be a size 16! Peace out ladies. Linda

I remember watching an episode of My 600 lb Life. I had been feeling a bit down about my arthritis and that I should really lose more weight. The thoughts about how happy I’ll be once I look a certain way were creeping in. Then the woman on the show says her goal weight. Her goal weight was the weight I was prior to losing the last 20 pounds I’ve lost. I realized that I’m better off celebrating my accomplishments than I am focusing on where I think I’ll be happiest.

It took me to 78 years of age to get the incentive to lose weight. I had back surgery and spent five weeks in the hospital. I had to learn to walk again (I use a walker now). I decided I should lose weight to help me be able to walk. In 2022 I lost 55 lbs. I'm still working on it. When you have a good reason to do it, you can. ❤

My eating habits have had to change dramatically, since I can't exercise, except from a chair. I have a cup of tea for breakfast and have a late lunch/early supper. I use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate. It makes it look like I have more food than I do. I try to stay away from bread products and sweets. If I want a cookie though, I will have one - not very often though. Being in the hospital for as long as I was, I got used to not having any snacks and it also took away any cravings for them. This may not be for anyone else, but it is working for me. ❤

@@maureenleclair8773 when I crave a cookie, (and I do, often) I put a bite in my mouth, chew it around, and then spit it out in the garbage can. I know I get some sugar that way, but nothing like if I actually swelled the cookie.

I have all four triggers. Not being able to sleep is my number five. Having my daughter passing away from cancer after going through hell for for and a half years drove me to not to take care of myself. She has been gone sixteen months now and I still can’t get myself together to lose forty pounds and start getting out of the house.

I am so very sorry for the passing of your daughter. Although I cannot (thankfully) write from experience, I have two close friends who both lost an adult child.
One is still fresh (3.5 months) While the other is 9 years... They both hurt to the core.
Maybe weight isn't the concern right now as it is taking care of yourself in a different way: Possibly starting with a 5 min. walk in the fresh air daily, or joining a small group of whatever interest you may have. It will give you something to look forward to each week...
My sister is finding 'help' from the book "It's Ok You are Not Ok.' by Megan Divine. Possibly it can also be helpful to you. Best Wishes... ❤

I began with anorexia at age 12, because my brother stopped walking from Muscular Dystrophy.
I had my second bout when my father died. And my third time was after I had my daughter. We both almost died in childbirth.
Then I became pre- Diabetic at 62. So I cut carbs and sugar out. So I have normal blood sugar now.
I am so unhappy. I feel weak and sick.
My clothes are very loose, and I can't afford new ones.
Weight loss is not what it is cracked up to me. The worst times of my life were when I was very thin.
    So I don't encourage it.
Moderation is the best. Not too fat, not too thin! Forget what men think!
Some of them don't look good either.
Sorry, not the testimony anyone wants.
But I am happy for anyone who finds satisfaction in losing weight.
I also over exercise as well. It doesn't feel good.
Unless you are very heavy or have a health issue, just be happy the way you are!

She was always going out or coming in and I would go outside with her every day numerous times. And I have fibro so my body hurts every day and it limits me in physical exercise on days I hurt too much. But now I have to get a grip and loose this weight. My size 14 pants are all too tight. I will be 70 this spring. I always gain weight during winter. I thank you for this gentle reminder. I am going to save this video and play it often. To prove it to me, he had me start tracking my carbs for one week. well, I confess on the first day I had all the carbs allowed for the day by ten AM. I was shocked at how many carbs are in food. I ate a bowl of cereal and met my carb limit for the day. I also confess that by Tuesday I had used all my carbs for the week. Usually what triggers us from others is what we like or don’t like (and maybe don’t like or see) in us. A mirror. It’s about accepting and being whole not guilt or shame. We all have shadows and shadow side and share a collective one needing to be seen, learned from and integrated. Jane Fonda: ‘we’re meant to be whole not perfect.’ So true.

I gotta tell ya... I am loving The Susan and Hal Show so much. I agree with cutting out sugar in your diet, I did this in 2004, lost 80 lbs in 9 months and have not gained any of the weight back. Concentrated sweets are a poison to me.

I have done this once but unfortunately I love some sweets too much and i came back to it but now I am trying to have it in less amounts; the interesting thing is that when I was doing the no sugar diet and had something sweet one day, like a few cookies or something like that, I had heart palpitations and didn’t feel well. Your body perceives sugar in high amounts (or higher then usual)as a poison.

Oh my! Such a huge subject!! I am 61 yrs old and have lost 150 lbs in this last year ! Dr.s could not figure out my health issues that caused this increase in weight etc. I had a 10 lb tumor in my stomach that caused major havoc on my body, organs and how good could not be digested properly! It was a very difficult time! I did have the tumor removed, had to retrain my body organs how to function properly by changing how I was eating and what I was eating! ( So thankful for my son who is a bio- chemist!). He is the one that figured out what was wrong and what to do! Without him, I would not be alive today!
For me, food is fuel for my body to function, if I get it to taste good that is a bonus! Definitely no sugar, very low carbs as carbs turn into sugar even in fruits and veggies! My organs are finally kicking in and are working as they were meant to function and I feel great! I still have to watch what and how I eat ( probably for the rest of my life, a long life hopefully) I enjoy my food and always eat on my best China and make my meals look special etc. I am single, but I do set a nice table for myself etc. It is all in our perspective in how we choose to feel about our food and it’s purpose at any given moment 🥰. My goal is to feel great and stick around long enough for my great grandchildren snd hopefully some great greats!!❤❤❤

Now there is a size 0. I was 35 23 35. After 60 its more about moving and eating healthy not dieting. Being able to live an active life and feeling good is more important than a number on the scale. Gaining strength and flexiblity should be the goal. Also keeping your hair looking nice does a lot for your spirits. For me that is covering the grey and adding some highlights. Low fat diets don't work. We need fat but it must be the good fat olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and butter. I no longer use Ibuprofen or Tylenol it wrecks your organs and stomach. I eat a salad for fiber. And beans. Cut the whites, white sugar white bread.

My struggle with my weight started when I hit puberty, so around 12 or 13. I was always a skinny child, so when I started developing hips, I panicked. I am your age Susan, and I came into puberty when we were posted (my father was in the armed forces, attached to the Canadian Embassy) in London, England, so Twiggy was all the rage then. I desperately wanted to be like Twiggy, but I wasn’t built that way. I didn’t understand that, so I started restricting/dieting. It didn’t help that my poor mother was also subjected to the same media that I was and also brought into the same mentality that you couldn’t be too thin. So she smoked and dieted and I restricted and dieted. I’ve struggled my whole life with the idea that I have to be thin. I’ve finally twigged that being thin (for me at least) isn’t going to be my goal. I want to be healthy and active and have decided to embrace the body that I have. Ironically I look back at pictures of myself when I was younger and think, my goodness I looked good. So I don’t want to loose anymore of my life to dieting and restricting myself and being constantly hungry (I’ve lost and regained my weight and more weight more times than I care to remember). But what I do want to do is eat healthy and get moving, no more weighing and measuring my portions. I’m learning to eat intuitively and to acknowledge my hunger. I know this isn’t for everyone, and everyone has to find their own path and what makes them happy and healthy because that’s what’s important.

There is a real addiction that happens in our brain concerning carbs/sugars. Dr. Drew (Drug addiction Doc to celebrities) says, …not to diminish the hard road and wk of drug addicts, but getting off carbs has similar withdrawals to coming off cocaine.” BUT w/that fact said - this is an excellent video! A person MUST FIGHT to have changed habits. It is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE to make and stick to new goals. How we feel and think is such a major part of reaching healthy body goals. Know your triggers, try to avoid them and you can fight and win over them. Count carbs(75-50 or below a day) not calories. Concentrate On just one day at a time, try doing just 1% better in each area and when you conquer that, go for 2% better in every area.
Cutting carbs/sugars & Fasting 12hrs or longer (20hrs +) is the only natural proven way for ur body to reabsorb excess skin, clear foggy brain, rid skin tags, plaque on teeth, dementia, Alzheimer’s, weight loss, etc. Little Poet is right - you can do it and change your life for the better. Your are worth every all your effort to love yourself to health.

Hello from Australia, and a happy 2023 to you and Desi. I am 52, and need to lose a fair amount of weight so this was very timely. Cut out sugar you say? I love sweets.... But they age me and cause inflammation and I have noticed I always feel hungry afterwards. So you've given me something to think about. I also want to look good in my clothes again, so like you, I need to look at my triggers, boredom, loneliness, anxiety and tiredness. If I don't get enough sleep then I eat all day. I've also realised I need to change my mindset, I am not "losing weight" just to gain it again, I have to come from a place of love for myself and change my lifestyle to a healthier one, so that I can continue doing the things I love, walking, travelling and swimming. I haven't been in a bathing suit for years because I'm so embarrassed by my physical appearance. Which is a real shame, it's summer here and our beaches are beautiful. I'm sick of missing out, I'm going to start loving myself more, I'm going to care for myself and not diet.
Is it the high consumption of Mountain Dew in Virginia? I think I saw a documentary on this, people don't drink water, they only drink pop.
As for psyllium husk, a health professional told me years ago not to use it every day, like all laxatives, it can become habit forming and then you can't have a bowel movement without it, she also told me it weakens the intestinal walls (just thought I'd pass that on and you can do your own research).
Thanks very much for this vlog, it's given me the kick I needed.

Your triggers are pretty much universal, I think. Loving yourself and wanting to feel good are really important. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I was a bit chubby as a kid and my mother knew I would always have to battle with weight, so she got me started early on learning about what foods to avoid and exercising a lot. She always told me that I ate a fraction of what my older sister ate, yet I was chubby and she was too thin. I just got a lousy metabolism. I got into some really unhealthy eating habits in my teens and 20's....anorexia and bulemia, but I got a grip and overcame that. Then there was the theory that grazing was the way to stay thin and healthy....which was SO wrong for me. Calories constantly coming in just made me gain weight. At 69, I know I'll never be thin, but I have never been obese. I just try to keep the carbs, sugars, and fats down, focus on proteins and veggies with a bit of fruit. I don't drink at all and I walk at least a mile every day with my dog and do stretching at night before bed. I eat two meals a day and try to not eat after 3 pm. My triggers are having visible snacks around. When I am between things during the day trying to decide what to do next, I tend to wander into the kitchen and grab a few almonds or dates....not unhealthy foods, but not needed. So, now when I wander into the kitchen, I heat up water and make a mug of tea with no sugar. The pounds are coming off slowly. I would love to try Belway, but they do not ship to me here in Mexico, so I will find psyllium fiber and try it. I actually eat 2 prunes daily with a big glass of water and that seems to work wonders for my sluggish intestines and hydration. I love you and Desi. Your videos are a highlight of my week!!

I love that Hepburn look too! I am the same way. When I'm happy or in love, food loses it's hold on me. Unfortunately, it's so much easier after menopause to gain and so much harder to lose. I would love to once more capture that Hepburn look and hold it for the rest of my days. Such a classic signature look

Hi Susan, I'm an emotional eater. Every time I am disappointed, unhappy, in a relationship problem, depressed, sad, disappointed, someone saying nasty things to me etc etc etc...I craved sweets. There wasn't enough cookies, cakes donuts, pies or whatever sweet thing out there that didn't catch my eye and make me want it. When I was happy I ate those things as a dessert because of habit or feeling like things are good and I deserve a treat because I'm doing good. That is my trigger. Keep them on hand and when a disappointment or failures comes up grab one. Later look in the mirror and hate yourself then try to fix the pain with something sweet tasting in your mouth. As a young woman I did every diet in the book over the decades I did them all and they all worked well. But after awhile disappointment came to life and I threw out the diet and headed for something sweet to make me happy. Eventually that led to the next fad diet that worked but did not satisfy what sweets can do. I became diabetic but I didn't follow the diet I had to have the sweets. Sure I am sugar addicted but I needed the sugar to feel happy. Once I went on Keto and lost a lot of weight but I got seriously sick from it and ended in the hospital. It was not good for my health at all. They say it is great for diabetes but for me it was devastating and made my kidneys worse. My normal eating was not terrible in fact almost healthy but the sweets ruins that. So I ate healthy but added sweets no weigh loss there. Now I am very sick two hundred forty pounds and I don't want to be beautiful and skinny I want to be healthy. I want the me that can walk that can cut her own toe nails, that can allow her photo to be taken. I hate my pictures they depress me and you know that's a trigger. I know how to eat healthy I am expert at it but how do I stop emotional eating? I pray for God to help me. I'm so sick right when I get well I'm going to eat healthy I threw out all sweets from the house. I need energy and health back. Sweets for me are evil. They destroyed my life. No more diets just eat healthy and stay away from sweets. I am 78 I don't know how I will do this. Going to try hard. Pray for me.

You can do this. Check out Pahla Bowers 5-0 method on her website or here on youtube. She helped my to stick to 5 daily habits. And I’ve lost 40 pounds in a year. I needed a miracle like you do. It was the journaling and finding my unhelpful thoughts about weight loss and life in general. You never know. Maybe I was meant to be here for you. Much love (To yourself, from yourself) Take care. Be well.

Oh it’s hard to lose weight and keep it off. I lost 20 lbs over a year ago and fluctuate a little, but have managed to stay around 136 pounds…I’m just 5ft tall, but I’m 70 years old so weighing things up I’m happy with this weight now. I try not to eat anything for about 15 hours then, although I’m not rigid, I do try to keep the portions small….this has worked for me so far. My motto is…nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
I like everything that’s in fashion and find being a little slimmer I can feel good about wearing a lot of it.
It’s emotions for sure that governs what we consume….but it’s not rocket science…if too much goes in with not enough output then the pounds go on.
I feel for anyone trying to lose weight because as I’ve said before on Susan’s Chanel, my only child, my daughter, died at 29 with complications after weight loss surgery, so I do sympathise and understand.
Desi looked adorable, as usual tonight. God bless you both 🌸

Hey Susan. I came in early tonight! YAY! 100% I agree with your premise that if we choose to be happy in spite of everything, we have a lighter heart and a lighter appetite. Easy for me to say as I am not experiencing the trauma, grief and debilitating illnesses that some of your tribe are, but I hope if and when that day comes, I will still be able to find some little thing every day to hang my joy onto. I like Michael Pollan. His book "Food Rules" is my mantra. You're lucky to have Hal and Desi. Stay well and happy. xo karen (Did your NYE date really bring his grandma? And then start dating his high school sweetheart?). 😆

As far as I remember weight was my problem. There were a few years here and there when I was ok. A year and a half ago I was prescribed Mirtazapine for panic attacks. It helped but I gained 17 lbs in a short period of time. Now I'm off the medication but losing the 17 lbs has been a struggle even though I practice intermittent fasting (eating window 6 hours). I'm 69, 5.3' and weight 136 lbs. I hope to start going for long walks again as soon as the weather gets better and eliminate as many carb as possible. Susan - you look great. Happy New Year everybody :)

The opening lines of this video say it all, Susan. Truer words were never spoken. People always say they want to lose weight, but what most of them mean is, they want the weight to lose them. Ah, if only that was how it works.

I am 73 now but I was always active 118 lbs, 5'6" Got married, had two boys, stuff happened. I love to cook, I love food. Sugar and carb addicted. I studied and worked hard and ate plenty too much. In 50 yrs. I went up to 174. Over the years I have tried Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, starvation, Jewish Hospital weight loss program, and some I forget the name. I have always needed fiber or stool softner. I have severe spinal problems/pain and took Ibuprofen, Tylenol and suffer diverticulum. Terrible. I go to chiropractor for pain once a month. I decided to try to go off sugar and wheat one year ago. I did not notice the difference until after 9 months. God gave me the miracle of my mind and heart to not eat sugar and very little grains. I am mostly pain free now. Sugar is poison. I am now on Optavia and have lost 21 lbs, getting ready to eat on my own and maintain. I never eat after 6 pm. I get plenty of sleep and drink water. God Bless.

Desi just melts my heart! What a good looking fellow. I think happiness has a lot to do with how well we care for ourselves and make time for exercise and nutrition choices. When I am upset it cripples my ability to make the best choices for myself. When all is right with my world I have the energy to put my best interest forward and do more self care.

Thank you for this, Susan! It gives me encouragement and hope! You hit the nail on the head...I've been unhappy in my life for various reasons for quite some time, and have been consoling myself with food...especially sweets, and have become a couch potato. I'm going to try very hard to give up the sugar, eat right and get moving. And I'll be doing it for my health and well-being. Thank you for the inspiration! You are my favorite UA-camr...I always learn something from you, and you give me something to think about! I hope you and Desi have a beautiful week! 💖

I went from 114 to 178 at the ages of 56 to 62! Menopause and boredom are my personal contributions to weight gain. Unfortunately, exercise didn’t help me. I walked 4-12 miles a day and the weight continued to climb. Seemingly overnight. I’ve just started a serious mindset to lose some weight and there are 2 things that I need to focus on; my heart and my head. How badly to I want to lose weight (heart) and how determined am I to lose it (head). I agree, a visual inspiration does help. Thanks for your video.
