Wonderful insights. Thank you. Forgiveness is a choice. That person exists for you, even if they have died, and you can ask them to sit down and talk to them. In your mind, that person is there & listening as you speak. Say what’s in your heart. Be truthful, honest, & direct because you have nothing to fear. Forgiveness will meet you there.

I had a thought about forgiveness. As a child my father was harsh to us over everything. We'd be hit with a belt, switches from our peach tree, he used belittling and insults. He came to visit me the week before Christmas - to see my son, his new and only grandbaby. The night before he left, he asked for my forgiveness. And he said something that's stayed with me for 25 years. He said, "I'm so sorry, it was wrong, but it was the best I knew how to do at the time". I realized that not only wasn't he the same person he'd been but that he'd grown and learned to do better. For his grandson, I think. Unfortunately, he got pneumonia and died on the trip home. What that taught me about forgiveness is not to hang onto hurt because the person you're angry with doesn't exist anymore. And how the power of words can free you from hurt and hate and self-blame. He set me free from that before he died. So I apologize first now and I explain that given the choice, I would have done better and that I've learned to be better than I was then. This rambled, I'm sorry, but if we can heal any hurt - take the time, make the effort and let go of the past. It's only hurting you.

I turned 72 this year. My life has changed dramatically since my husband passed away 6 years ago. This year I reflected on how my life has changed and what would make me happy. I realized that to have joy in my life again I had to make some changes. I thought about all the things that I love and what is missing in my life. So I decided to purchased a summer home in a different state near a friend of 60 years and have decided to split my time between two states. And I am loving it. My favorite quote is - if it is to be it is up to me. I have found joy again❣️

I'm actually looking to buy a beach home and kept my current apartment. I am just a State away and having two bedrooms...,(guests!) and my wonderful Son and his Girlfriend having a room to call theirs for the summer makes me smile! The cold PA winter makes way for spring and then summer. So many memories are tied to the NJ Beach front. So, it was so nice to see your comment. I can make it work. I wish you all the best! ⛱️❣️

My fiance had Parkinsons. Had a little shaking in his one hand. A doctor prescribed a very very strong medication. It had terrible side effects. He was on it for one week in August. It caused him to have terrible anxiety and depression. He was a Professsor. He had to not teach this semester. He continued to have the problems even after discontinuing the medication. A psychiatrist prescribed medication. It didn' t help him. His greatest fear was that he would never teach again My fiance killed himself on 09-14-22.We have been together for 18 wonderful years. So now I am mourning him and having to adjust to living without him.

I couldn’t agree more. My husband and l have been helping to watch my grandchildren daily since they were born . Going to their house in the morning and after school. They are now 6&8 and they don’t need us in the same way . We meet them at the crossing guard and drop them off there in the am & pm. They don’t walk with us anymore and hold our hands , but they run ahead . They don’t ask as many questions bc they “ know everything “ 😂 They do let us help them with their home work . I have loved watching them grow up and start to become independent. They are my greatest gift as well as watching my daughter become a wonderful caring mother and daughter.
I wish that everyone could have the gift of watching them grow.

Loved this segment Susan. Makes me reflect on what my priorities are now that I am 69. One thing I love most about my husband of 27 years is that he always asks "what can I do for you " when I am down or ill. I did not get any of that from my first husband. Everything revolved around him. I always suffered in silence. It took me years to gain the confidence I needed to feel good about myself . You are so smart. BTW, your hair looks fabulous!

Susan, there's just one thing I want to say here. Giving someone the chance to forgive you, doesn't disempower them, or invalidate the past. Instead it gives them an opportunity to release some of the pain associated with the act that needed forgiveness. It is a kindness to ask for forgiveness as much as it is to ask for help. Allow your son to forgive you, but first forgive yourself. 😘

    • @victoriamack4792

I know how hard it is to forgive yourself. If the two of you could make it so a relationship could be alive healthy and happy. That would be wonderful for you and your son and so many others. Go for it Susan. Try it. You want it then you won’t fail. You are a good kind person and they need to know you the real you. F don’t be afraid give love a chance

Denise, Yes, that was so well said! I understand also the thoughts Susan related that expressing feelings of sadness about our known imperfections and even failures are important, while being patient to allow that person to forgive when they feel ready is also a kindness. It’s humbling on both sides of the relationship I think. I can say when I’ve had someone ask me to forgive them, it opens a door to my heart toward them and quite often I get to truthfully tell them, “I already have”❣️

Oh Susan, these questions are so true! I was at my primary Dr. for Pre-Op for back surgery on Nov. 23th. I had a wonderful nurse I had never met. we chatted through my EKG. She said " I am a single mother with 2 kids. I applied for food stamps & was denied". I did not ask about her past. She did mention no child support. Then, she said " they are eating me out of house & home, my rent & electric just went up & I NEED HELP! WELL, my heart sank! I have been there many times. I know the struggle. As I left, I said: " we have been " prepping' food for 2 yrs & have plenty. CAN I HELP YOU??She hugged me & said OH YES, thank you! Her co workers & Dr. did not know this. We hugged. Her Dr. is going to take up a collection. I got home & told my daughter the story. " Let's make her a big Christmas basket before you go in for surgery". WHAT CAN I DO?????? So true~~~~~. Love & Blessings from Fla. & Hi Desi

Nurse here… in the 1980’s child support was not monitored properly. I worked as a nurse from 6 am to 3:30 pm, picked the two children up from childcare or school, ate supper with them , took them to their sisters house while I went to Walmart to work from 5-9:00 pm. This was my 5 days a week schedule.
I applied for food stamps… I made $50 TOO MUCH because they HAD to include the $200.00 a month child support that I didn’t receive.
With my FAITH and diligence carried us through those difficult years.

My ex died a year ago. It was a bitter divorce because he remarried and didn’t see my children, or
support me. He left millions to his second family. I’m 75 and have to work because he was so spiteful.
Even despite all this when he passed all of the anger subsided. And I only remember the good things we shared.
It is a part of growing up and I’m a stronger person now.

    1. I just turned 72, my husband died in 2014. I have unlimited options. 2. My priorities, my love for my Savior Jesus Christ, without that everything is a fail. My family and Otis🐶. I am blessed, because I am very close to my grandchildren who are all grown and who are always checking in on me. Giving, it is such a blessing to me. I have the original night before Christmas. I read to my children and to my grandchildren. I am saving that for my great-grandchildren. 3. Again, growing as a woman. I want to grow every day and never stop growing as a Christian woman. 4. Very hard, but if I do not forgive, I will hold on to that and never be free. 5. Ugh, I hate asking for help. I am getting better at it. I can help anybody anytime but for me also, asking for help shows weakness. I am working on this, a work in progress. 6. That is easy, I have no problem with this last one. It gives me so much joy❤Have a blessed night🙏🐶Otis and me🍁🍂🍁Massachusetts

You can certainly move near your Son and Grandchildren and continue your channel, start a musical group at a Club if you can't find one. You might even perform at your Son's Resturant/Bar on special occasions. Heck, it's a new adventure with personal benefits built in, your grandchildren.
We all do our best as parents and there is always guilt because none of us are perfect. Our children discover this when they become parents.
A little house for you and Desi is the fulfillment of a dream. Being close to your grandchildren is a precious thing to experience. You need to do this while they are young. By the time they become teenagers it will probably be too late to begin building the bonds you want with them. But...remember to always be making a fun quirky life for yourself. The kids will love that and enjoy seeing you have a life of your own. They will learn from your example. And so will we, your admirers and cheerleaders! You go girl!!

SUSAN, I did it, I went thrift shopping, because of you. I had the best time, you were with me, but didn't know it! Well first of all, I have started walking and exercising because of you, I just want to feel better, lose some weight and breath the wonderful fresh air, it really makes me feel free. I've said all my life if we were ever reincarnated I wanted to be a beautiful bird, free to fly, free to go anywhere in the sky, just lift my wings and go with the wind!! No, I'm not crazy, like to dream. In this thrift store I would pick something up and wonder who would let go of something so beautiful and the sound of chimes that long continuous sound that is so beautiful. Well something kept telling me to pick up this bowl and I didn't!! I kept hearing pick it up! Well I did, the most beautiful bowl, Susan it was a CRYSTAL BOWL, my heavens!!! I told the owner this is crystal, do you know this, did the seller know this? He said he didn't know, people bring everything in hoping it will sell. It was like half the size of a punch bowl Susan. I gave $20 and it's worth so much more than that, so much!!! The sound is so beautiful. Because of you, I don't think I would have ever gone into this shop. You were with me and didn't even know it. I will think of you everytime I look at this amazing and precious crystal bowl. Love Always, Susan

I contemplated the answers or actions for each of these questions. There is a lot more thought required - except for one. When you spoke of your grandchildren and the things you want them to remember, I’m sharing this unsolicited advice from deep in my heart. This is important. I get to see my grandchildren not everyday, but at least once a week. Susan, these little people fill my heart with joy more than anything in my life ever has. When they run to me and hug me and want to play together - my purpose for being on earth is clear. Whatever your choice is, to move or stay, add in time to be a part of their lives.

My no.1 priority is playing and teaching our grandchildren. We have 9 within 45 min. of us. I tutor them, swing, play, cook, draw just anything children like to do. We like to have them without their parents so they can get to know us better. I used to fret about where and how each Christmas was placed on our tree. Well the last 3 yrs, they wanted to help. So I prayed for patience and let them go at it. I love them so much more than any bobble. They had a gleam in their eyes and did a remarkable job. We had treats and I had Holiday music playing. At 73 it really was a relief and a big help. Let Go and Live with those little ones.

I have a prayer book and there is a part that deals with forgiveness. You write a letter to the person that hurt you, telling him/her what they did, hurt/angered you. Then you write another letter telling them you forgive them, after that tear up the letters and throw them away. I wrote a few and I don't feel that hurt or anger anymore. Also, I too have a hard time asking for help, but I have broken down and asked for it. Good point you made about your son. Thank you for all your videos, I look forward to watching them every week. Hi Susan..Your videos always tug at my heart. You never fail.
I tear up at almost everyone. I use to be strong as iron. But as time goes by, I'm finding myself tearing up more than I ever did in my whole life.
If you can, it would be wonderful to be closer to your children.
I was blessed to take care of my grandchildren 4 -5 days a week before they began to go to school. It formed a beautiful bond that I cherish so much. My grandson is going to be 16 in January, and will begin driving. My granddaughter is 13 going on 14..She's beautiful. They're both beautiful. But I'll tell you, that I miss my little munchkins. It seems that the years have just flown by. And I think the pandemic stole time from us. And I also think, that's when I started tearing up more. All of our security seemed to come out from of us.
I tend to be a positive person and I love to joke around and laugh. I have to work at it a little harder now. But I'll do it. My strong New York way will prevail. 😉
I'm not telling you what I'm about to tell you, for you to feel bad for me. I've had 3 significant losses this year. 2 in the last 3 months. A 39 yr. old and a 42yr.old. And I've found myself not commenting like I use to. I watch and thumbs up, but I've been pretty quiet. I'm trying to get back to my normal ways. And my kids make me feel so good. So if you noticed, which I don't expect you too, with all of your followers, that's why. You and the ladies of the " Mature Beauty Community " are very special to me. I've learned so many tricks, tips, products, especially from you. And I needed to tell you that. You and Desi are Tops. And you're both adorable. Sending big hugs to you both. 🤗 🤗

Random acts of kindness . Their happiness they express in return is what makes me the happy in the end.. Funny how, making someone else happy instead of expecting something from someone else to make you happy isn't it.. Linda

"Would you help me?" brought up powerful feelings of unworthiness, which were put on me as a small child where I was excluded, being the only girl in a family of six brothers My patriarchal father taught that girls were "less" than boys. So what that question did was remind me that I AM worthy of help and inclusiveness in this world. It also reminded me that now I do ask for help when I require it. That was an "anchor moment" where I could look back and see how much I have grown over the years, in my new life, because at some point I began asking for help from others. By the way, my father died in 1993 and that's when I began therapy, while journaling my way to wellness. Thanks for your channel @Susan. You're awesome. So is Desi! And so is Hal!😊🐕😊

This hit me where I live. Or my husband and I needed. We told our daughter we were having trouble making ends meet. She jumped right in and made some calls and they helped us with some of the immediate problems. Getting older is not for sises. With the way our president has made everything a mess it has affected us. The cost for food alone , we have insurance and we are struggling. She is our only child and we have never asked for help. They moved away from our area and it is a 14 hour drive. To say I am sad is not saying enough. We will be alone if we need her.I don't know what God has planned? we are lucky to have each other. Susan, I thought I was the only one who feel that way when I ask my adult children for needed help. I too know that one day they will be happy for it.

You have such an amazing and uplifting way of looking at life. I loved these questions and will be thinking about them for a while.
Life journey is both complicated and joyful.
My husband and l live 10 min from my daughter and help her out every day. She is a teacher and to put two young children into day care before and after school would be a huge chunk out of her salary. We have put our plans of moving to our dream condo in FL ( we are both retired) on hold . Getting up bf the sun in the winter. Braving the icy roads to get to her house morning after morning . But we do it because we will never get this time back with them. Life flies by and children grow up too quickly, but they are gifts .
Forgiveness ~The one thing in life l know that l have to do is to forgive someone who is now dead. That person caused a lot of pain and was very toxic. I guess the word would be narcissistic. That is the one struggle l have… to be forgiving and letting go.
Thank you very much for posting this video. It’s extremely thought provoking and healing.

It strikes me that " What can I do for you" and " Please forgive me" might be two ends of the same continuum. We benefit more from forgiving others than they do. So living or otherwise, forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give to that relationship. The Healing can then begin as the malignancy of malevolence dissipates in our minds. We are free to love more fully, reframe our priorities and optimize life's options that lay before us. It is like in The Christmas Carol , when Jacob Marleys chains are revealed. Forgiveness involves putting down the weighty chains of unforgiveness and, as you said so beautifully...walking eachother home!

So thought provoking! We spend so much time doing mundane things we forget to ask these questions. You are so right about asking for help. It is like gift giving. Sometimes the best thing about asking for help is the joy it gives the helping person. We all need to feel valued, useful, respected and loved. This is my favourite video so far. Love to you and Desi… thanks for gently prodding me into being more mindful today.

Thank you for you! Question #4 hit me right between the eyes. I have a problem with trying to make everything "fair" even when it's none of my business. I said something to my youngest sister in order to make a point about something she said that I thought was unfair. What I said hurt her, and she's barely speaking to me now. It's been a few weeks, and I've reached out several times, and apologized, but I have never asked her, face to face, if she will forgive me. In thinking about what #4 means, there's a difference between apologizing and actually asking for forgiveness. Apologizing is one-sided. It leaves everything hanging in the air. Asking for forgiveness involves both parties, and while it puts pressure on the other person to make that decision, it also asks them to (and allows them to) evaluate the relationship. If I'm standing right in front of my sister, humbly, she'll realize that our relationship is built on more than my well-intended but misplaced foolishness. Hopefully, she will say she forgives me. And if she does, it puts an end, hopefully, to this and says that we both recognize and accept that it's done, and we can both move on. I would hope it would also put an end to my inserting myself where I don't belong, but I know me. I'm trying.

I turn 60 tomorrow. These questions are all in my mind. Where do I go from here? What do I do with my precious time now? Life passes by so very quickly. We think we have forever. But it all happens as though in a dream. All very important questions you asked here today. Many I still don’t have the answers to. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, who hasn’t? But forgiveness from others isn’t as important as forgiveness from ourselves. Such important questions you have raised here. Thank You for sharing this video with these important questions. Blessings to you and Desi.❤️❤️
