    When you play guitar (especially reasonably well) every time you have the fortune to see/hear a great player you are influenced and better from them whether you know it or not. The magic of it all..

    For anyone who is learning this (like me) and doesn’t have great ears (like me), at the 5:00 mark, Tommy misspoke and mistakenly identifies that high E chord as having a raised 5th, which would be a B#/C, when in fact it’s a flattened 9th or 2nd, an F natural.

    Mr. Emmanuel .Just wanted to say... thank you sir!!! .You are an amazing player and an inspiration..esp with old...ish guitar guys like me..lol... and just as great with instruction btw!!. Thank you... thank you for reviving my interest in fingerstyle guitar and chasing that damn elusive boom/chick thumb and finger independence. BTW... Its Never too Late..simply beautiful. I didn't even recognize this piece at first thought it sounded very good. Turns out it's El Vaquero, which I never liked. The tempo makes all the difference.

      +Emmanuel Calderon Do you both play guitar? Maybe you can fret the notes and he can strum. Together, you might harness the power of Tommy Emmanuel and be incredible!

    I find the slower version is much more pleasant to listen to. It has a nicer groove and doesn't sound rushed. And, best of all, you've doubled your play time in front of your audience.

    kinda funny, even his 'Medium Tempo' run through, had the majority of people (myself included) pulling their hair out and burning their guitars! I'm starting to understand how he thinks, though...

    Vaca, pronounced ‘Bah-Cuh’ is Spanish for ‘cow’. Vaquero is Spanish word for one who works cows, a ‘cowboy’. The ‘quero’ part is NOT pronounced like it contains a ‘w’ in it. Rather, it is pronounced like ‘care - oh’. The ‘V’ is spoken as a soft ‘b’. The proper way to say it is “el Buh - CARE - oh”. Hence, the Americanized west coast word for cowboy, ‘buckaroo’.

    What thumb pick (brand) and what weight (heavy, medium, light) does Tommy use?

    • @joshuamacgrath136
      @joshuamacgrath136 4 роки тому

      He has said a few time that he doesn’t have a specific preference, but seems to use Dunlop quite a bit. As for size: he has said a few times his hands swell and contract (like most people) depending on environment and diet etc so he carries several different sizes and uses the one that feels right on any given day. Don’t know about weight, but I’d bet a dollar to a dime it’s on the heavier side. Once you start really chasing down acoustic greats (in contrast to notable electric players) you’ll find they usually prefer heavier picks for the broader range of attack the provide, if you’ve got the dexterity and “feel” to wield them properly! Hope this helps.
