Thank you. Set the tent up today ahead of a trip and unfortunately the carbons split exactly as you showed here. Super helpful video, will be repairing as soon as the kit arrives. Thanks.
To avoid overstretching the shockcord and having it fail (i.e. eventually snap because the last join has too much tension on the shockcord), centrally balance the pole between your two hands and separate the middle segments first, double the pole and then continue separating and folding the rest, two at a time. I told a fellow camper to do this, received a "yeah right!" look and had the malicious pleasure of seeing his face when the shockcord broke and the pole fall to bits before his very eyes at the end of the camp.
@@SnowysOutdoors Oh that is related to my question above. How do you know how tense it should be to hold properly but not put extra strain? Do you have a video on that and if yes can you give the link? Thanks! :)
Thanks that's great, I was looking for that. If the shock cord has got loose, do you need to completely replace it or can you make it in two parts with knots inside? if you do replace it completely, how tight should you pull it before cutting it to length and knotting it? Maximum possible, or hardly?
I'd replace the shock chord personally, unless the know you tie allows it to move freely inside the poles. The ideal tension allows the poles to collapse completely without putting too much strain on the elastic ~ Lauren
Some tent pole repair kids come with a long wire that is used to thread the shock cord through the poles, eliminating the hassle. I just wish mine came with instructions!
@@SnowysOutdoors I was looking for something like this: ua-cam.com/video/vydFd8HMfYY/v-deo.html You are correct, the long pole consisting of pole sections can also be called a pole. But I was looking for repairing one piece of the pole.

I think it would also depend on the size of the elastic hole, but I agree wire would be a great choice!

@@SnowysOutdoors Haven't tried yet but I was thinking of taping the cord to a thin knitting needle?

Hi, please change title to: How to Replace a Broken Tent Pole
Hi Jan, this is for repairing your poles, not replacing them - although you could in theory replace a whole pole using the same method.
