More of our IS IT WORTH IT Series, here: • Is It Worth It? Men's ...
    00:00 Introduction
03:16 So I'm wearing here the Canada Goose Emory slim fit parka jacket with a coyote trim. In terms of colors, they are less flashy than Moncler and I chose an olive green. The first thing that distinguishes the jacket visually from the Moncler one is the genuine coyote fur trim. Canada Goose claims that it has a functional purpose in the sense that it creates more turbulent air around your face thus preventing frostbite more than a jacket without the trim.
03:59 The next thing that stands out is the material. It is matte and it's a lot thicker than the Moncler jacket. Also and I find it quite unpleasant, it makes a lot of noise when you walk, just listen! The material is made out of 85 percent polyester and 15 percent cotton, it's water-resistant, durable, and hard-wearing, as well as wind resistant. It's not quite gore-tex membrane material but it's definitely thick and much stiffer than what you get from Moncler.
04:46 The other difference to a Moncler Jackets are the ribbed cuffs which I find quite useful because they prevent cold air from coming in. The jacket features an abundance of pockets, has lots of Zamak metal snap buttons that are plastic covered. Of course, all branded. The zipper is an injection molded plastic from YKK, ironically it's the same one used at the Moncler Jackets. For some reason though, I find it a lot harder to close.
05:25 Even though the brand is called Canada Goose, the actual filling of this jacket consists of duck down feathers which are inferior to goose down. So what's the difference between goose down and duck down? Well, goose down comes in larger clusters, usually traps the air better which means you get a higher fill power and more insulating with a goose than a duck. Because this jacket uses duck down, it's not surprising that there's a fill power of 625. Again, low-end fill power would be 300, high-end fill power would
be 900. So this jacket sits right somewhere in the middle.
06:21 Unlike Moncler, Canada goose has a warmth grading method which is called TEI or thermal experience index. That will help you to find a jacket that is best suited for your needs and your environment and the level of coolness you experience. Also, if you compare the jackets visually, it's a lot less puffy and you don't look like a Michelin Man in a garbage bag, unlike with the Moncler jacket.
07:13 So now the big question, is the Canada Goose Emory jacket worth $995? Well, let's look at the pros and cons. The construction of the Canada Goose jacket seems more rugged and sturdy. Frankly, I don't wear these jackets enough to really figure out the difference because when I go skiing, I layer up because that allows me to get exactly the right heat level for the temperature outside. This arctic tech fabric is definitely more sturdy than the nylon one from Moncler and I think over time, it will wear better.
07:47 Unlike Moncler, Canada Goose comes with a lifetime warranty, however, that sounds better than it actually is because it's just a warranty against manufacturing defects
It's definitely a quality parka, it has real fur trim, it has a fill power of 625 and it keeps you warm and is well thought through.
At the same time, the jacket also has a bunch of downsides. One big one for me is the sound it creates and the noise it makes when I walk, I find it simply unpleasant.
08:15 Secondly, it's heavier than the Moncler jacket which is not so great in my opinion but more importantly, it's simply too stiff for my tastes
Also, keep in mind that you can find warmer jackets with a higher fill power for about half the price of this Canada Goose.
08:32 Overall it's pretty expensive even though it's twenty dollars less expensive than the Moncler jacket but at the end of the day, I don't find any of those jackets really stylish because this one is very shiny and puffy, this one is less puffy but it's so stiff and just makes me feel like a very unstylish person.
So if you really care for style go with a heavy overcoat that will keep you just as warm in the city at the same time you will look a lot better.
So what are good alternative brands would you recommend?

Mftr's have been making good/better/best many yrs. You drive your Suburban and I will drive my VW. We both arrive to slopes same time. Both are usually equally happy. History proves there are sufficient amount of jacket buyers to maintain production. Some w choose to spend $1,000 while many of us wont (while we secretly roll our eyes). But....I love me some pretty women. If I can struggle to pay for this jacket, an expensive car, I can lead the pretty woman to my short term trap. Once she learns I spent a lot for these two items but don't have the money to wine and dine like she expected, she will be gone fairly quick. Next.....

It’s -50C here at some point and we were in the car, driving until suddenly, a tire exploded and we got strandet. I was the only one of my family to be able to get out oft the car and change the tire, because every other one was almost instantly freezing. I changed the tire and we drove home. My parents never again complained that I’ve spend 1000CAD on a jacked. They’ve one now too. I love this jacked. It’s super warm.

Because those ratings are not independently veryfied they don't mean anything. What actually matters in terms of insulation is the total down volume which is calculated by mutiplying the fillpower of the down contained with the total amount of down contained (total down weight). And if you look at the price of down, the down in a Moncler jacket alone is worth more than 3 times as much as the total cost of your jacket. Therefore it is mathematically impossible that your jacket is even remotely close to the insulation power of a Moncler or Canada Goose jacket.

I own 2, one Expedition, and one Snow Mantra. I live in Minnesota, and there is no other coat I would wear if the temperature is going to go below -20 F or more. The Snow Mantra is bulky but if you have to plow snow you are not worrying too much about your image. People worried about their good looks are not going to venture out much when the temperature will freeze your skin in mere minutes.
All of that said, I never experienced a problem with my zipper on either coat. In fact the only problem I had with either, was the placement of a velcro tab on the storm flap on the Snow Mantra. It rubs the nylon cuff while fastening the zipper, and eventually it pulls loops off thread out of the cuff. Canada Goose did replace the cuffs free of charge, but the same is starting to happen again. If I again return the coat I will recommend moving the velcro tabs where this is not an issue.

Just two weeks ago I bought Canada Goose Jacket. I am not rich person by any means I am student at the moment, but for years I’ve been wanted good quality winter jacket. I looked around to spent up to 300 or 400£ for good jacket I still couldn’t find anything that would keep me warm and look stylish at the same time. I bought cheap one three years ago just to wear it in cold days so I don’t freeze but never really got the job done. When I bought the Canada Goose I thought I’m gonna regret spending 895£ for a bloody jacket is way to expansive, (we spent over 1000£ for iPhones every 2 years), but let me tell you after wearing those days which has been cold here in London I absolutely did not regret it one bit. I had to work some extra hours to pay for it but is worth it, is not something that you buy every year or even every two years. I have lifetime warranty for it if any manufacturing defect come up and they will fix it for free, it keep you so warm but it doesn’t make you sweat, it’s water proof and I will keep it for good few years. If you have the money buy it you not gonna regret it. So looking forward to the winter this year and staying warm. Each one for themselves, in the end of the day we spending our own money, I like products that is worth paying for, even if you pay 2-3 or 4 times more than you expected sometimes.

I own a Canada goose jacket and actually live in province in Canada where it's ridiculously cold. It's definitely warm when it's -30 °C outside, but there are cheaper jackets that are just as warm for sure. I find that my $150 boxing day special Tommy Hilfiger down jacket is pretty well just as warm, and for a fraction of the cost. And the zipper does such for sure!!!!!

I live in an amazingly cold Canadian province, and I bought my Canada Goose jacket back in the mid-2000s, when it was a little less expensive. My jacket is far more simple, sleek, and stylish than the style in this video. As others have mentioned in the comments, the zipper also functions really well as long as you keep the line relatively straight. I bought CG jackets for my parents a few years ago. My mother never struggles with the zipper. My dad struggles immensely, but he also makes the same mistake as done in this video, where he tries to curl the bottom end up, towards him. Personally, I still consider this to be one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The only other items that even come close are my Canada Goose gloves and my navy Thom Browne seafarer jacket.

I have no regrets about that purchase. Though I had to get rid of the fur. I don’t like that at all. I’ll consider reattaching if I ever make a trip to the north pole or Antarctica. I would say it’s a fairly stylish coat for the colder days. There’s a time and a place for an overcoat. It’s more suited to smart dress. Most style conscious people, most of the time, are going to be dressed more casually. A coat of this style, especially in winter, is perfectly appropriate.

Arc’teryx is a high end jacket and outdoors-wear company based in Vancouver, Canada. Their hard shells are the most durable and functional jackets on the market, when worn with the proper layering of clothes. I highly recommend you give one of their jackets a try (Alpha SV is their flagship). Keep up the good vids 👍

My dad has one in Norway and said it kept him very warm through tough temperatures, don’t buy one for the brand but for the quality.

Polyester tends to be far more durable than nylon in addition to polyester being more UV stable.

Greetings from Minneapolis... To Minneapolis! (The street signs were the tip-off!) Thanks for being clear about this brand . As a native Minnesotan, I was skeptical about these coats, as they've been popping up everywhere -- but they're so incredibly expensive. And up here, form must follow function, especially with the weather we've been having lately.

I work on movie sets and they always have Canada Goose parkas for the cast to wear whenever they are off-camera. I had no idea they were this expensive, but they sure do look warmer than all of us crew in our black Carhartt jackets

If you in am extreme cold environment that statement is likely false if you not though the Canada goose is overkill and you can find better suited ones for cheaper for sure

To be honest on a budget, you can do a lot worse than the North Face Mcmurdo or Arctic/expedition Parka.

Plastic zip is a functional feature in cold weather jackets... At temps below -10C metal zips can freeze. As the video described, the jackets were originally cold weather gear for people working in the arctic so many of the features are holdovers from the original line.
