Hello, Canadian here. I used to own a Canada Goose for years, and it served it's purpose well. However the material starts to deteriorate after daily seasonal use. It does not age well. Then I was introduced to Nobis which is also another Canadian Brand founded by a previous employee of Canada Goose. After owning a Nobis for 10 years, I can easily say it's the best looking and warmest jacket for the price. It blows Canada Goose out the water. My Nobis Yatesy Parka still looks as new as the day I first bought it. No fade or signs of wear. I highly recommend everyone to check it out. It looks more like a refined jacket, especially if you live in the city. All fur ruffs are also removable for versatility.
Bought mines 20 years ago as I was prone for stopping off for a restorative nap walking home from the pub in Scotland when I couldn’t get a taxi . Pre luxury switch when yo could only get them from artic expedition supplier in UK. Still here alive with the jacket but no longer drunken napping in snow drifts of a winter weekend but great fer the Fitba…. Watching not playing
When they luxury switched did you feel a bit aggrieved because people would be looking at you like you just jumped on the bandwagon, even though you had a specialist one.
fur is warmer than synthetics, if you're going to the arctic, fur is one of the best options from a technical standpoint. humans who live in extremely cold places still use fur, especially for boots, because it's so good for warmth for the weight, and doesn't freeze and stop working when wet. it's always puzzling to me how irrationally upset people get about fur clothing but leather clothing doesn't generate the same huge protests.
I gotta say, Canada Goose jackets are legit, as far as keeping you warm. We had a period of consecutive days of roughly -50 degrees celsius here in Canada, and my Parka was a life saver. That said, the styles, especially for the warmer jackets, are very "old men and women". But they've been putting out much better designs lately.
I would wear it in 45° F. ❤❤❤ I love heavy jackets. My favorite is my heavy weight LL Bean parka that has the same outer shell and some of the great features of the jacket you are featuring. It also has synthetic fur around the hood.
@josipj705 It's all about how much of an animal is used for a purpose, because we should not take a life without a good purpose. Personally I have nothing against hunting just as long as you use as much of the animal as possible(within reason). I do not like people hunting an animal just for the fur, but I can understand if it is first and foremost to control amount of an animal population as part of eco system control. It's all about the balance, and I just want it to be a good enough purpose before I can agree to take down an animal. Animals hunt too, every day all around the world so it is very natural. We still should use common sense and value the life of something even when committed to ending it. You value that life by using as much of it for good purpose, and then it's no problem.
*amzclothes* clothes are well made. The fabric is very comfortable to wear and very convenient for exercise! wonderful! Love it so much I bought some as gifts, I got turquoise and brown!
I have a north face trans Antarctica expedition parka - it’s big, puffy, bright orange & teal, matches my dog’s frisbee, is incredibly warm, and is my favorite jacket
I like *amzclothes* coat very much. I have to admit that their clothes are really well done. There are many styles and colors to choose from. I've had it for a week now and I'm very happy with it.
I had exactly the same parka when working in Russia some years ago. It cost a fortune and started to fray, discolour and wear quickly. The salesman told me I only needed a t-shirt beneath it. I was cold with a t-shirt in freezing temperatures after 10 minutes outside. I needed a few layers beneath it to stay warm, but the main problem was the quality of it- worth about a third of the price I paid for it. There is a gap in the market for high quality lightweight men's winter coats. Noone can fill it at any cost.
Good thing I watched “Society of the Snow” yesterday, now I know what jacket to wear in case I ever survive an Antarctic plane crash Love the vids Michael, happy new year!
I have the farmed out Canada Goose coat as in not made in Canada. I actually have two parkas. Been in - temps with windchills - 65 F and it perfectly warm. I don't wear it till it's below zero. They do not have the coyote fur rimmed hood but my Anarack does. The Canada Goose give an inside warm air pocket but also blocks the wind.
Coyote fur is used because it does not freeze around your face when your breath hits it. I had an N2B from the 80s. Warmest jacket I've had, but so stiff I hardly ever wore it and ended up selling it on Ebay, LOL.
Just found your channel. Why does the world work this way? You have great content and incredible presentation, and I have enjoyed your in depth reviews of Military jackets specifically. OSC Mission is much warmer than any Canada Goose. The OSC Mission has 800 down fill, while the Snow Mantra only has 650. Plus the OSC Mission is made of way more robust material, has reflective material in the lining to retain heat etc. I have both and the Snow Mantra doesn't even stop the frigid Canadian winds when it is negative 20 C with wind shield, whereas I feel completely warm in my OSC coat. In general, go to Canada if you want the warmest coats, most of them aren't even available in the US.
Their Wyndham parka is not even sold in the US anymore unless you get it from their generations line or a gently used option. And, could you do a review on a bison coat, its sold on etsy.
I used one of these for, I don't know, it must have been something like 7 years, it wasn't this exact model (looked the same but with a couple less pocket on the inside and without transparent pocket and reflective stripes) but it was definitely well made! But I think they are a little overrated, especially now that competitors have upped their game. I replaced it with another parka from Canadiens, much cheaper (even if still pretty expensive), but it feels as well made, and also the outside fabric is more plyable while still feeling as resistant.
I have the PBI Expedition, had it for 7 years. It removes the weather from any equation. It simply doesn't matter. Usually over 15°f it's too warm though, unless it's ridiculously windy I won't wear it. Get a Baffin jacket if you can't afford to buy this one. It's warm too, really warm, but double check Baffins size chart on the jackets page, it was wrong when I ordered, they'll email you the correct one, if the sizes seems really small, its the wrong one on the page still.
My warmest parka is an Eddie Bauer Peak XIV rated to -30 F. Sucker is WARM! I made only one upgrade. I opened the top of the insulated zipper guard (had only thin synthetic insulation) and filled it with DWR treated 850 fill goose down.
My Fjällräven Expedition Down Parka No1 have more Down, with higher fillpower. I love it, we had -30 to -36 C for a whole week a while ago, and I still were outdoor everyday
We have a British Antarctic Survey jacket like that in our office that I think got brought back from some job in the 90s. My colleague uses it to cross between buildings when it’s cold.
This model is not made like the retail stuff ! But given the chance I would wear a "PHD" bespoke coat . The level of possibilities when ordering from PHD is unreal.... they will make what ever you want and it will be the best . strongest coat you will need for what ever requirements you want
I spent 6 months at Halley and Rothera Stations and we had Feathered Friends Rock & Ice Parka and they were the warmest things on the planet, warmer than the Canada goose ones!
The North Face - Summit Series - Himalayan Parka is warmer. Made for climbing and the warmest jacket ever! Had em' all but nothing beats the 2014 edition of that North Face.
Many experts say that jacket must be 3-4 pounds to be in the warmest category . You own Canada Goose ( or something similar , very heavy , with down ) ? And summit elite alpine stuff ? Is it durable ? It would be such a pity destroy it , outer fabric seem fragile . Probably they use construction without stiching baffles etc , they fuse it with modern tech system so no cold spots .
it makes perfect sense , it's made for elite alpinists , and up on Himalayas temperatures are like on parts of south pole ( not the coldest part thou )
Do you know of any other jackets in a similar league that you would recommend for cut and tear resistance? I would be using it in a construction application. Would you say the Mantra is the toughest one out there? Thanks!
Tried carrot hop, it rarely finds the exact item you’re looking for. Especially items like the wool jackets and smaller brands. It recommends something similar often from places like Walmart.
Got my Expedition Parka 15 years ago and its still in very good condition. Saved me from buying another winter jacket again every year. Nowadays they cost twice as much... mine was definitely worth it already
Wyndham was really well cut compared to the expedition ones. If I had to get a CG I'd get that one too. I imagine a belaying jacket would require a hardshell too to prevent rips and tears. I got the Marmot Goretex Warmcube Golden Mantle and it's probably as warm as an expedition. And it's around 270 in outlet colors.
@@TheIronSnailidkkk I was very happy to have my parka and be completely content outside even in 35 degrees instead of being a little uncomfortable in anything else i have
oh as a canadian, I can definitely say my Canada Goose Jacket is use as it is intended, -40 weather with blizzard, only this one would stand the test of time
Bullshit. Layering is still the best option out there. Canada goose is good if you plan to loiter around or go for a ride in a snowmobile, even then a insulated overall is better. As soon as you do any kind of activity in that you sweat like a pig. There really is no argument for super insulated expensive jacket other than brand pride and feelings created by marketing. I don't even own a winter jacket, only a wool jacket and i experience -40c every winter.
I'm a techwear fan i guess.. I am a gear nerd mostly for hiking and alpine gear, but I think your videos are interesting because they approach the same topic from more of a men's fashion angle.
The woolrich jacket looks great, did you have it altered at all? I have what I think is the smallest sized one, but it doesn't have a great silhouette.
I have the original vintage Snow Goose version of the snow mantra. I prefer the vintage personally because i get them cheaper than i would the same jacket with the canada goose patch cause most dont know they're the same company. best 125$ i ever spent
Which jacket are you referring to Plus which ones would you recommend for someone coming to alaska in the winter after staying in the warmth for a long time. Thanks
@@lexerony I wear a mix of coats but my go to is the Fjallraven Expedition Down Jacket for when it's colder than -20f. But for the day to day wear I a thick 100% wool sweater and the Arc'teryx Thorium Hoody. When its really cold or I am out for multiple days or its really windy I wear the Fjallraven Polar Parka or a local made on by Apocalypse Design which is made in Fairbanks in my hometown. My biggest advice is to wear many layers especially if you are moving and being active. The 3 things for me that most important is the feet, head and hands. If you keep them warm you will be fine. I will saw if you live in a warm climate and dont want to spend the money cold weather gear. There are gear rentals that will bring a complete outfit to your hotel or you can pick it up.
This video triggered my flight or fight response because where i live the young lower class individuals buy canada goose (1k+) while not being able to afford food
Canada Goose sucks, and I'm Canadian. Many Canadians had stopped using parkas with animal fur by the 1980's. But the grifters who own the company thought it was a a good idea to use fur obtained from leg-hold traps. But the coats are shit anyway. For some reason Brits like to walk around in them when it's not even below zero here. Get the Outdoor Survival ATKA if you really want a decent coat.
When you’re exposed to wind all the other brand as you says new technology have a major flaw it’s where you have stitches to keep the insulation in place the wind will blow inside your jacket CG don’t have exposed stitches, I did experience this problem will working 300 miles from polars circle at only -48 deg those places are flat land and the wind is very strong my first run I had one of the new best of the best. According to the salesperson my second run I was using my Canada Goose Jacket then I knew the difference. All the other brand they look good with a mountain to cut the wind. On flat ground where the wind is blowing they’re not making the cut best regards
The last time I went home to Mahone Bay Nova Scotia it was early fall. Out side there was a number of tourists walking around wearing Canada Goose coats. To this day I’m not sure what they thought was going to happen.
I was torn between Canada Goose and the Feathered Friends Rock & Ice, went with the FF in the end as a previously owned CG (about 25 years ago) never draped very well and would pump cold air between the parka and me. Granted I probably had a size too big at the time, but even everything cinched down still didn’t seal me in.
The Feathered friends one uses a much higher fill power but is definitely not as warm. It is much lighter in weight though, which is the point since it is made for climbing, which is why they use a higher fill power down. To get the highest warmth to weight ration.
I didn’t specify which CG parka I was referring to, so how would you know it was warmer than the FF? What tells you that the CG is warmer? I owned the Expedition which had a fill power of 650. I feel the FF is warmer because it drapes better (also has 900 fill power), eliminating the cold spots that CG parkas can be subject to because of the rigid materials used in their construction.@@AlexanderMason1
My only critique is to be careful of the jackets you use outside before returning them. I know it’s a tough jacket, but laying it on the ground for example, bending down into the woods and it touching the ground, stressing pulling up the zipper at the end is probably not the jacket I’d want new that someone returned lol
I prefer Moncler over Canada goose bc it’s more stylish and I don’t live in negative weather it’s normally like 2 degrees or a little lower. I’ll probably pick up a CG eventually
The alternatives probably also use too many synthethic materials that can leak over time and pollute stuff. Even if its very little they probably dont want that in antartica and why other modern alternatives arent used often there.
There are actually a few jackets that are much warmer and higher quality out there. Quartz’s Vostok fur is rated for -50c/-57F. It uses 750 fill power down unlike the 625-675 fill power canada goose uses. The world’s warmest parka is Outdoor Survival Canada’s “the Mission” parka. Is uses 800 fill power down and is rated for -60C/-78F. Both the Vostok and the mission parkas have reflective strips, have several D rings for attaching gear, all the pockets you need including an id badge and a gps pocket. Thery are fully waterproof unlike the Canadagoose parkas, which are only water resistant. They don’t leak down like canada goose’s jackets. Canada goose’s snow mantra is theirs warmest jacket rated for -30C/-22F and lower (I was personally sweating in -40C/-40F while wearing it so i guess these are more of a comfort rating. It’s a really good jacket but the two parkas I’ve mentioned are better quality and will last much longer too. They are also made in canada. The Mission parka in red is what i would take with me on a polar expedition.
Sadly it would not! It's amazingly warm but I think people that go the fur and not down route usually use two layers of fur one facing out and one facing in + head protection!
I like what I like, and want what I want....Not one, but two CG parkas. One for everyday winter wear: Maitland. The second for colder days, the Expedition.
Its funny, people can use these coats outside of antarctica. I live in a part of canada that can get down to -40 celcius -50 celcius with the wind. I plan to own a coat like this some day. I currently have a similar north face coat that i bought used. Its hand if you need to a football game that -20 celcius and you need to be outside for 3 hours. I also have it to wear when you are out driving long distances in the winter, in case you get stranded a warm coat could be life or death. Im not a huge fan of coyotes farming but the animal can be reaponsibly hunted. They are kinda neusance animals for livestock farms.
In a sense it's just like firefighter bunker gear. It's not purchased by civilians and it's meant to last a (relatively) long time. They don't use the latest and greatest technology but it works and it has features noone outside the fire service would understand.
I wore the Eddie Bauer Peak XV this morning while shoveling snow in zero windchills. Super warm and comfy. My Canada Goose Expedition was hanging in the closet. I guess that says something. Looking forward to your follow-up.
I went to a University and there was a bunch of foreign exchange kids from china and they all wore this jacket and when i looked at the price i completely understood why ! I live in NYC and so the tempature sometimes drops to freezing but i never have owned a proper winter jacket and just tend to wear some sort of coat with a sweater or hoody underneath and it should suffice ! Also I am like 5 ft 7 so wearing one of these things would make me look more of a midget than i already am as a dude
I used to wear those in Russia when I was a chemical weapons inspector for OPCW....they do keep you nice and toasty....for western Europe they are a bit of a overkill

Really happy to see phd mentioned, the definitely make the warmest jacket. You can also get it with 1000 fill power
PHD also has the suit version which was developed for the first K2 winter ascent in 2021
We "really" do here in Canada, I live in Winnipeg. Has been colder than - 50°C multiple times here over the years.
I love heavy jackets. My favorite is my heavy weight LL Bean parka that has the same outer shell and some of the great features of the jacket you are featuring. It also has synthetic fur around the hood.
Gotta love how people seem to have no problem generally with shearling or leather in general, but *COYOTE* FUR? Now that's *TOO* far!
Food animals vs. Non-food animals.
@@Official_MikeyT what difference does it make
ya, they only have a problem because they can see it. mentally handicapped
For sure. Like, oh you used fur from one of the most populous canids in north America because of its incredibly useful properties? How dare you!!
TY FOR WATCHING! See you all next week!!
Next week, like Monday, right?
spent many days in this coat walking to work in -45 to -55 in Nunavut Canada. feels like you're waling with a house around you.
-45 Celcius?
@@JohnBlutarski -40 is the same in both scales, so it doesn't really matter.
I have a north face trans Antarctica expedition parka - it’s big, puffy, bright orange & teal, matches my dog’s frisbee, is incredibly warm, and is my favorite jacket
what are its pronouns?
As a Canadian we are a fur-bearing nation since forever. The Hudson Bay was built on fur.
I lived in Nunavut (Canadian Arctic) for 2 years and this was my parka of choice. Toasty!
Woah -- COOL!!
I like *amzclothes* coat very much. I have to admit that their clothes are really well done. There are many styles and colors to choose from. I've had it for a week now and I'm very happy with it.
Love my Canada Goose Langfield parka. Super warm with just a T shirt not too heavy or bulky Fur is super good for wind. Perfect
Good thing I watched “Society of the Snow” yesterday, now I know what jacket to wear in case I ever survive an Antarctic plane crash
Love the vids Michael, happy new year!
Happy new year!
Yeah they are nuts!
Coyote fur is used because it does not freeze around your face when your breath hits it.
I had an N2B from the 80s. Warmest jacket I've had, but so stiff I hardly ever wore it and ended up selling it on Ebay, LOL.
I had one too -- literally TOO warm for anything!
I saw the alternatives and was like "not enough pockets." Engineers know what that jacket is for lol
2:50 watch as Michael elegantly lifts up his jacket as to make sure he keep the remnants of the dirty old tree off of it. Taking notes...
Just found your channel. Why does the world work this way? You have great content and incredible presentation, and I have enjoyed your in depth reviews of Military jackets specifically. I am a vintage military collector living here in Mexico City who routinely picks items from clothing bales and street markets, and Canada Goose jackets, although not the one featured in this video, do find their way here to be sold on the street. It’s a strange place for certain. You’ve won a new subscriber, so a big thanks and keep up the great work from the @mikeinmexico channel. Saludos
I have a normal Canada goose and I've never felt cold in it. They're worth it
Michael is having too much fun with these vids 😂 Gotta love it!!
"Too warm, even for Antartica"
Damn, that certainly is a statement about the jacket.
Round my way the 'rich badge' is mostly replaced by the 'counterfeit badge'. 😂
This model is not made like the retail stuff ! But given the chance I would wear a "PHD" bespoke coat . The level of possibilities when ordering from PHD is unreal.... they will make what ever you want and it will be the best . strongest coat you will need for what ever requirements you want
oOooh so cool -- never heard of them before!
PHD definate makes the warmest jacket for sale.
I bought a Wyndham Parka and Crofton vest this past year. I love CG's parkas but they are overkill for where I live (Southern US)
Overkill for me too -- especially this year!
"So Hunker Down!" got me to sub... 😂😂
7:26 May also be used to drag someone who is injured. Same reason plate carriers have handles.
I'm a techwear fan i guess.. I am a gear nerd mostly for hiking and alpine gear, but I think your videos are interesting because they approach the same topic from more of a men's fashion angle.
Please give me the link from where I can buy this jacket.
The woolrich jacket looks great, did you have it altered at all? I have what I think is the smallest sized one, but it doesn't have a great silhouette.
I have the Wiggy's Antarctic Parka. He says it's the warmest parka made and I believe it!
Semi related - what is the red plaid jacket you wore for part of the video?
Woolrich hunt coat
Woolrich from the 1940's!
Wore them in winter in Russia when I was a chemical weapons inspector for OPCW. They are toasty warm
Please take a look at the MegaWarm jacket! It was made by a researchers and claims to be the warmest jacket (according to some metric).
!!! EMAILING THEM NOW
Actually the feathered friends rock and ice parka is far warmer! Canada Goose supplied scientists with their coats so hence the popularity
I have a men's medium, and yup their the warmest. Trouble is, I take an xl, not m.
I have the original vintage Snow Goose version of the snow mantra.
I prefer the vintage personally because i get them cheaper than i would the same jacket with the canada goose patch cause most dont know they're the same company. best 125$ i ever spent
Michael I'm gonna miss you from the T&H channel but I fully understand because TIS is taking off!
It gets -65f where I live in Alaska and that jacket was too warm for me to wear here. maybe if I was outside for many days but it is definitely warm.
Which jacket are you referring to
Plus which ones would you recommend for someone coming to alaska in the winter after staying in the warmth for a long time.
@AlaskaMatt I appreciate your advice will get in touch when I get there. Thanks alot.
@ sure hope you enjoy your time in Alaska
Any idea when there will be a restock on the mammoth wool jacket?
"Ooh DAMN!! 😆😂😂 This dude again!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The last time I went home to Mahone Bay Nova Scotia it was early fall. Out side there was a number of tourists walking around wearing Canada Goose coats. To this day I’m not sure what they thought was going to happen.
I live in the arctic….I wear a cloth blue jays jacket that is maybe a third of an inch thick…if its -50 Ill incorporate a sweater
“
Big Fat…….. oh saving yea thats what i thought u were gunna say 😂😂😂 4:14
What is the red flannel you are wearing
My only critique is to be careful of the jackets you use outside before returning them. I know it’s a tough jacket, but laying it on the ground for example, bending down into the woods and it touching the ground, stressing pulling up the zipper at the end is probably not the jacket I’d want new that someone returned lol
This is true! How ignorant of me - I’ll just keep and resell on second thought
Appreciate the feedback
Most likely the companies don’t sell these products after they are returned. They’ll reuse just for promotional purposes
I had one for fifteen years. Best coat ever.
I enjoyed that your dance moves were sweet in the jacket 😎. Loved it as always!
I love that my Canada Goose has coyote fur, I pay a lot of respect to my jacket every time I wear it
I always thought the handle was for hanging it or carrying it when it's rolled up.
Well i live in french alps and i can drop to -20°c and this jacket is my best purchase in my life your are warm and comfy

@theironsnail would the Dehen n1 deck jack compete in the same conditions?

A lot of indigenous trappers use Canada goose, spending hours on trap lines
See people walk around London wearing them.
I've bought the Nobis condor legacy Parka and it looks as good as CG. It's 2300€ for this model but I can ride my motorcycle in winter 🎉
In a sense it's just like firefighter bunker gear. It's not purchased by civilians and it's meant to last a (relatively) long time.
They don't use the latest and greatest technology but it works and it has features noone outside the fire service would understand.
i grew up with fur. there is no substitute!
The Snow Mantra is also really nice for working in a server farm.
Take a look at the Eddie Bauer Peak XV jacket. Buckets of 800 down fill and I-beam baffles. Insanely warm.
I really think that's the best deal in extreme warm down jackets!
