    THANK YOU!!! I have been searching for two years on how to save my gigantic aloe vera plants. I did not know that I could cut the stems, and roots would still grow. I thought the plants had to remain attached to the original roots. I have bought taller and taller pots trying to accommodate the long stems. This is Memorial Day 2020 weekend and I also have a few extra days off. I am going to tackle this project! You have no idea how much joy you have brought me in sharing this video. Many thanks and keep being safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.

    For those who don't know, when you harvest the gel, it can be dehydrated and turned into a powder. Powdered aloe gel is quite a bit more concentrated than the raw gel because you remove the water. This powder can be mixed with any hair care products or skin lotion. Also the powder can be added to smoothies to help with detoxing your body.

      You can also freeze it. I take a leaf, wash, trim the pointy edges, cut in about 1-2” lengths. Put in freezer bag and freeze. When you have a burn you can take one out, trim off the flat side skin, place on burn and bandage. The cold is also soothing.

      @@hudasalih6987drain the latex first. Stand it upright in a container with water I do it for at least a few hours. Trim off the spikes on either side Slice thinly, very thinly. Spread on a tray. I usually spray hairspray on it,but its not required. I use my aloe for cosmetic use only. I find the alcohol helps with the drying process. Place in the sun and dry out for several days. I am in Africa so this time of year it dries out in about 4 days. You can also dry it in an oven or dehydrator. When totally dry, just put it in a blender to male the powder. I doyn have a blender so I used an onion chopper or pestle & mortar but your powder won't be as fine. Then you can sift to get the bigger pieces pieces out . I dont particularly care about that. I use the bigger bits in hot water and let it steep for about half hour, strain and then use the water for my hair.

    Thanks for the video. I'm sorry to say that my MONSTER aloe plant recently started protesting my neglect and tipped over then rolled over to my neighbor yard in a desperate attempt for help. Through your video I realized that my pot is too tall.... my pot is as wide as your pot but much taller ..... which is why my plant (which is 3 times denser and too heavy to lift) has been so prolific. I now have a mission to to avoid the plant police and the Plant Protective Services by appropriately propagating.
    Thanks for giving me the tools and the strategy to get the job done.
    Now I have to find folks to give the plants to, since I already shared with everyone I know.
    One thing..... Why do you set them out for weeks in the bowl without water? Won't they dry out? I was going to use a root starter and put them in water until I see strong root development but just putting them in a bowl is easier.
    Thanks for the support!

      Your message painted a hilarious picture in my head...lol thank you for that.... its not necessary to leave the cuttings in a bowl or laying out for weeks... a couple of days should do the trick... after they calus you can try rooting them in water... but i recommend straight into soil...

Anyway, That's how I take it in orange juice for inflammation. If you can stand the bitterness, you can juyst eat it. The gel is for relieving hemorrhoids., FYI.

    Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and I learned a lot. The bottom can be turned up and planted. He is 20 years old ( from my son’s pre school plant sale ) I have gotten 23 pups over the years ( not all so puppy size) from this gigantic aloe. Now I wish I didn’t cut him off along the trunk but he was so big he couldn’t stand up even if I did what you did. he was flowing over the side of his big container and slinking along the floor by 2-3feet. I needed help lifting him up and getting him to where I could work on him. I cut the trunk while it was in the container 3 “ from the bottom had to cut off all of his huge leaves they were not as plump and now I have a much smaller plant but still big. My question is. The less plump leaves I cut off are green aloe inside but some are oozing red brown liquid!!! Does that drain off and I can still use the aloe? It’s pretty creepy. I see the green there too. Some have more brown flesh. I’m letting the plant hang for a while like you suggested. Not sure if you said 1 or 4 weeks but I ll wait til the trunk looks calloused There were pups in the bottom also and interestingly I guess because it was low in the planter, mushrooms grew. Too moist I would guess. I had moved it away from the window by a foot a while ago. Happy gardening. Anyone know about bloody leaves I’d appreciate the feedback.

    Hi Bill,
    I really _really_ want to be good with aloes, but I have a history of watering them to death. I have the idea that I should only give my "big" aloe (it is about 30cm/12" tall) 1 TBSP or 1/4 cup once or twice a month. It seems to be okay so far with that, but how much water should I give my little pups? (They developed under someone else's care outside [in Toronto] last summer while I was away.) The pups are about 1cm, 2cm, 3.5cm, 5cm, and 10cm tall respectively (with leaves that are skinny, flat and dark green) (as well as two that are 6cm and 7cm tall and plump and bright green) all have 2 to 5 leaves and as of March 2nd most are no longer attached to a bigger plant (only the 3.5 and the 5cm ones are connected together). Also, what size of pots should I have them in?
    I am hoping they will thrive. I want to keep these ones in particular for sentimental reasons.
    Thank you very much for your time, and for your videos. Yours are the best aloe videos I've ever found in all my searching.
    Happy planting and growing season! :)
    ~Karen :)

    Hi!💜 I have a question about one of my aloes, if you don’t mind:)
    So about a week ago, one of my aloes’ leaves fell off, and I didn’t notice until two days ago. At first I was going to set it aside when I saw something near the end where it’s dried up, and it looks like a seed in it. Is this possible? I shallowly planted it to try it out, but I wasn’t sure if it could be a seed inside or if it’s just a place where it has calloused over in a strange way. Thanks!

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  3 роки тому +1

      Interesting... I wouldn't be a seed as they are not produce in or on the leaves.. it might be a calloused bit or something foreign that got in there some how.

    • @PlantzNThings

      I tossed mine in the compost... but you could harvest the gel if you want to utilize it. There are plenty of videos out there about that. I personally have not had any success with growing an aloe Vera from a leaf cutting... but I'm sure that have been a few success stories.

    Im so glad I found this video - it has given me hope! But I would love to ask your advice for my situation, as Im not sure if your method will work for me. I received a 6” variegated aloe in the mail - it was delayed 11 days and came rotted at the bottom. I cut out all of the rotten parts/cut off all of the rotten leaves. After scraping away all the rot im left with about 3” of plant, 5 leaves with about 1.5” of stem. I dont see any leaf nodes on my stem. My question is: will it still grow roots? Should I cut off some of the leaves further up the stem to make a node? I dont want to leave the poor plant with two teeny leaves :( but if I need a node to root I may have to. Hope you can give your input - thanks for the video!

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  4 роки тому

      Sounds like you are doing everything right! If there are no nodes visible i would remove one of the good leaves... no need to go too crazy :) let it dry and callus for at least 1 day... then plant it...
