    if you cut the leaf like you saw in this video, it will never root. Instead, try pulling the leaf sideways and remove the leaf exactly at it's joint with the mother stem, (which is actually what he did to the one he showed you with roots). Happy gardening to you all!

      You shouldn’t have to do that though, people shouldn’t be tight and let people crap a cutting here and there. It’s not going to cost them anything or hurt their plants especially if they have heaps. I am so sick of how greedy people are these days. Ya never see anyone offering free cuttings to heirloom plants of any kind, they always trying to make money. I have 3 kinds of mint and I would happily let people have some clippings to them. I have peppermint, spearmint and normal mint u have with mint sauce for roast lamb etc
      I’m shattered I used to have my own aloe but it died one year when it got too wet and cold due to our crap cold weather. If I had kept it under shelter it would have been okay I’m sure. I have lost so many plants over the years that I used to have from non gmo og plants.
      But yeah just knock on peoples door and ask them, surely most people wouldn’t care if ya grabbed a cutting. It’s just ridiculous of people to say no if they have plenty of it growing.
      I mean I have rosemary and lavender too which I have had for years and I’m happy to help any one who needs cuttings if they live in Aus. I would appreciate the same back but I never seem to meet anyone who isn’t a tight ass.

    • @SKYBANfrancine
      @SKYBANfrancine 4 роки тому +1

      @@natalieaaby7002 Yeah, sure! If when you say leaves, you mean offspring form the larger plant and they already have roots in, you can introduce it to a pot big enough, but not too big. Gently water it after being planted. If you're doing this with aloes, do NOT ever use fertilizer on them. They will burn. Theoretically, your plant should do fine after being planted. Good luck!

    The best way to grow new aloe is to wait for the small ones to sprout off the side of a big one and just plant those with the root. I've gotten six huge aloe veras from one and the original parent plant died and yet the new ones have small ones sprouting up to this day.

      When the camera is "off", paint the cat.

      The color change is very common and is related to lighting, temperature and/or hydration. An aloe vera that is in bright direct sun, or that is dehydrated or exposed to cold temperatures often turns brown. They turn back to green when moved out of direct sunlight and/or watered.

    Guys this actually doesn't work well. The whole process is called propagation. You need to have the bit of the leaf that connects to the plant to be completely intact, cutting it off like that removes the part that callouses over, grows roots and eventually a new plant.

At first I was going to set it aside when I saw something near the end where it’s dried up, and it looks like a seed in it. Is this possible? This guy truly got the clicks he wanted. Guys, this would not work. You will just waste a good leaf if you follow this.
    1st, propagation requires you to pull the leaf at the very base of the plant. It is hard to explain, the leaf will be slightly indented and will not be to moist. Most succulents evolved to be like this, if it is cut like how he did it, it will not grow.
    2nd, this is not aloe vera, it is another type of vera plant, I don't know the type. The vera leaf still would not have grown though.
    3rd, the most important thing to note. Aloe vera and most veras can not grow from a leaf! The only was to get another aloe vera is to wait until the mother plant grows a pup beside it or plant some of the seeds.

      good sir Murray is correct. Aloe Ferox it is. I don't understand why people posting educational videos whilest knowing crap about the matter. + a small cut at the buttom of the leaf is enough to just gently remove the leaf, always the oldest first and better use a plastic/ceramic knife to avoid oxidation.
      would have been nice to see a video where one could see the leaf actually take root ... which it in my opinion never does. but anyways, this is isn't even aloe vera, same family yes, but other variety ... and also here it isn't possible to plant like this.

  • @snorksonforks
    @snorksonforks 5 років тому +4

    Can confirm this works ... But why is your plant not putting off pups?
    That container might be too shallow .
    ALSO: aloe IS a rooting hormone ... use a leaf to make some "tea" and use it on any plant.
    if you soak some aloe in a bucket of water and then mush it up .. its like liquid gold for plants.
